Spent the evening in New Albany and stopped by Boomtown for ice cream after dinner. We were the only ones in the shop when we got there so we took our time reviewing the menus. We both settled on a single scoop as we were stuffed from dinner. I will have to go back for an over the top milkshake or sundae! I went for a scoop of s'mores in a waffle cone and boyfriend went for classic cookies and cream in a cup. This is where there was a hiccup in the experience...boyfriend was served cookie dough, they quickly addressed that and my scoop was served in a cup. Seeing as there's an up charge for the cone, I politely asked to have a cone placed on top of my ice scream - no need to waste ice scream! She looked at me like I had 5 heads and eventually obliged. Overall ice scream was good and we were content. I won't go out of my way to return but if we're in the area and craving ice scream we're likely to stop by again. read more

The photos I saw on Yelp and social media made Boomtown Creamery look like THE PLACE to go for something truly decadent -- and BC did not disappoint. These shakes are large and in charge. They cost about $15 each, but considering how piled high these come -- more than enough for two to share -- it seems more than worth it for a special-occasion dessert. My foodie group chose BC as our next conquest. This spot gave us more than enough to take pics of, eat and gab about. I ended up going with the Mega S'more Us "boomshake," which came with a toasted marshmallow, graham cracker, Hershey chocolate, chocolate cake and whipped cream, on top of a delicious shake drizzled in chocolate. This is dessert on dessert on dessert. Really, just wow! The shake was flavorful and the added bits just made it one of a kind. I also got to try bites of the Orange Cream Dream and Peanut Butter Bliss shakes, which were over-the-top-in-a-great-way too. I think if I go back I'm going to get the Peanut Butter Bliss shake. Considering how much goes into each shake, the wait can be a little longer if there's a line but it's worth it. There is also outdoor seating, making this the perfect summertime stop. read more

Lol this place was shut down today . BY THE CITY. What's wild is the owners didn't say anything to the workers. It really didn't matter because, the owners of this place were very nasty to the employees. An treated them worse. An the owners NEVER taking any accountability. Ice cream shop that serves overpriced items on their menu. My ice cream really wasn't all that. Pretty much took a bite and it went to waste. Something just wasn't right. My coworkers took their shakes to go because they were so massive and impossible to finish. Presentation was nice but not worth the price. There was one person working, which made us feel bad. Seating is limited. If we hadn't arrived when we did, we would have had nowhere to sit. I really love what they are doing here! Not only are the shakes instagrammable, but they are super delicious! I split mine with my BF and we pretty much devoured the whole thing! They might look intimidating at first to eat, but if you believe you can do it!! We had the strawberry one, which was great--- but when I saw the Peanut Butter one I had some serious FOMO. It is wonderful to have a new ice cream joint downtown New Albany. Boomtown offers 10 flavors of Hudsonville ice cream by the scoop or in a waffle cone - but what they're making a name for is their Boom Shake, a 20oz milkshake in a glass covered in icing with cookies, marshmallows, icing, candy, cake or even a slice of cheesecake stacked on top. These type shakes are all over social media - we had our first several years ago at Black Tap in NYC. They're fun and completely over the top. Unfortunately the service and setup leave much to be desired - but if you want to wait 10 minutes in line and another 20 minutes for a New York hyped shake at New York prices and eat inside at a crowded table or streetside at a dirty table with traffic honking, this is your spot. As for me, I'll pick up a half gallon of Hudsonville the next time I'm at Meijers. read more

This place is definitely worth a visit. We got the strawberry cheesecake milkshake and it was really good! I don't know that it was $15 good. I think more reasonable would be paying around $10 for this milkshake. Funny thing is they were a ton of people. We waited in line for almost 20 minutes to put our order in and then waited about another 30 minutes before our milkshake was ready. It's definitely worth trying out and supporting. The workers were very friendly and you're working really hard to get people's orders out. In all honesty if you're looking for a milkshake that's nice and thick and doesn't have a piece of cheesecake on top of it, I would say visit your local ice cream shop. read more

I went there today to try their shakes. The workers there were super nice but that's about where the good ends. First, the shakes are unbelievably overpriced at $15. They do load them up, but it honestly ends up being more for the appeal than anything because the actual shake was super runny and didn't taste all that good. Also, their blending machine sounded odd to me, and to make matters worse, the ice cream had a very metallic taste, so much so that I ended up throwing it away. I'm not sure if it was just user error, but I will not be back unfortunately. read more

The milkshakes are large, creative and messy. My shake had a small ice cream sandwich placed on the rim. The ice cream itself was not special. Once you get past the whistles and bells, it's a subpar shake. You'll have an extreme sugar rush and great photos to share. You get to spend time in downtown New Albany, but it's more of a tourist attraction than a hidden gem. read more

I mean, it looks visually appealing but the quality just isn't there. Cheese cake isn't made by a local bakery or in Boomtown, it's frozen from their food vendor. (Box was in the trash). The brownie on the S'mores Boom Shake ($16!!) was of similar quality. The marshmallow was toasted with a kitchen torch and tasted straight up burnt (maybe user error?). Shake flavor was OK, very runny, give you plastic spoons that don't even reach the bottom of the glass cups so we had to pour the runny shake onto the small plate to get the last few goodies from the bottom. The facility was dirty and sticky, no napkins at the tables, bathrooms exceptional small (maybe 6'5" head clearance) and was out of soap. The ice cream here was subpar name brand ice cream. I just paid somebody to scoop it for me. My wife got a milkshake and it was warm and watery. The milk tasted absolutely spoiled and warm. The girl working looked overwhelmed and was by herself.. but she was kind and gave me a scoop of ice cream in place of the milkshake... although the dollar amount was way off and I had to ask for the ice cream. When I told her the shake was bad she was like "I'm sorry" and then turned back around. Not in a rude way but in a way that she wasn't going to try and fix the problem. After some yummy epic tacos down the road at Agave & Rye, a friend and I headed to Boomtown Creamery for hand scooped dessert. I ordered a waffle cone with a single scoop of moose tracks, which was delicious. Basic, but delicious and decent value. My friend, on the other hand, ordered a single scoop of strawberry cheesecake in a cup. We didn't expect anything extraordinary, since the sign said the ice cream was Bluebell brand, but we certainly didn't expect it to be freezer burnt! There was a layer of ice crystals over the top of her ice cream, which was pretty unfortunate. There was only one young girl working in the store from what we could tell, and she was pretty busy with the few groups of customers in the store. I understand if she didn't look at the ice cream super close in an effort to get orders out quickly, but it made the ice cream taste awful. Our first visit here... trying to give Grace knowing they just opened. We didn't have a long wait in line, but waited 20ish mins for our shakes to be made. It wasn't very clean at all... tables, Floors, walls... And we watched the girl (wearing gloves) scratch and rub her face constantly. Shakes were $15 which seems steep. But, we were ok with it. Shakes were just ok. I'd rather go somewhere else. But, it was a fun experience. My kids thought it was super cool. Probably won't be back this summer. read more

This is barely two stars. I'm torn between 1 and 3 stars... I'm in the medical field so hygiene and clean practice is imprudent to me. I walked in the the two young ladies working had their hair down (no big deal) which wasn't an issue until I ordered an ice cream. As one attempted to scoop the ice cream onto the cone, he hair was gently caressing my ice cream. I finally had to say something and then the other young lady took over to grab another cone with only one glove on (the gloved hand was holding my cone- but her bare hand was touching the other cones)... the problem is, both of these young ladies had been on their phones just prior to their serving me. Cell phones are disgusting, they hold a plethora of bacteria if not kept clean and there was no hand washing done or even sanitizer. I say all this to say, the ice cream itself was super tasty and that's why they got the 2 stars. I won't be back as it's not worth the almost $5 for the possibility of significant contamination. read more

I stumbled upon this place tonight and I was in the mood for a milkshake. There was a lot of people packed around the Boomtown establishments. The line situation wasn't super clear but eventually we figured it out. While waiting, the menu was also a lil hard to read, and when I saw a $14.99 price next to the shakes I thought surely that can't be right. Well-- it is. I looked around and saw these huge milkshakes with cakes, pops, icing, whipped cream and sprinkles added. Along with the shakes they offered regular scoops and floats as well. There was a bit of a wait but they were running a busy summer night in a relatively small space. My shake was GOOD- don't get me wrong. Very very good. Perfect consistency. But the environment was a little hectic, the price a little absurd (to be real), and kind of confusing inside. I'm SO glad to see ice cream offered in New Albany as I felt it's been missing for some time now, but I wish they might offer a cheaper less extravagant shake.
