During a recent trip across the river to New Albany, I found myself with some time to kill. And considering it was the morning, caffeine was the go-to. That's how I found my way to True North. This coffee shop is where a Quills coffee used to be. And I appreciated all the seating areas, perfect for a mix of sitting alone or talking with others. A few boutique items also took up space on a wall. I ended up getting a "Mint Tulip," a matcha latte served with peppermint and mocha syrup. It was a fun morning drink just before Derby! All in all, this seems like a solid coffee option. I would definitely come back! read more

Beautiful, comfortable experience. After shopping for a long while, my friend and I were ready for a break and True North was the right spot. The couches provided a relaxing hour for sipping drinks and talking. Ladies working were so friendly and gave us advice on drinks. I ordered a cold brew with cherry cold foam. The cold brew was quite bitter so I only finished half. I'll try something else next visit. Formerly, this shop also offered home decor, art, and other accessories. Calm and comfortable. The vibe is bougie, gentrified neighborhood coffeehouse. I don't hate it. It's just not noteworthy. The lighting could be a little less harsh. The coffee is good. SKIP IT! First off I want to say this is a COFFEE HOUSE, which it states in the title. That being said, you expect that during their open hours, you can get a fresh cup of coffee. Do not expect that here. I tried to call while at a stoplight to check and see if they were open and no one answered. I decided to drive by so that I'd know where it was for the future as I love to support local. There was a person sitting in the window area and they appeared open so I stopped to get myself and my friend a cup as we still had a few hours to go until the workday was over. The interior is quaint and there are several area to sit, when you have the time, to enjoy your coffee. I walked In and had to say "hello?" before someone came to the counter. I asked if they had fresh coffee and when she said yes, I ordered 2 cups of coffee to go. It was NOT FRESH. It was bitter and old tasting, not super hot either. I asked when it was made and she said it was recently. I asked what it was and she said they use Quills. I have had Quills coffee several times and never did it taste this bad. I told the barista it tasted bitter / burnt and she said that's just how it tastes. Well ok then... So I grab my coffees and step away to text and she starts making a new pot of coffee! Wth? Sad that this particular long dark haired barista selling me old scrappy coffee, not telling me the truth about it and not offering to make new coffee once I questioned the age of what she served me. I know its hard to hire good people that take pride in their job but wow, she's giving a bad name to the shop AND Quills coffee. (They do not have creamer available to you, fyi.) Fresher coffee at the gas station, which is where I will stop next time. Learning my way around my new area and this won't be a regular spot. read more

I have been here twice now, once during a work day morning for coffee with a friend and once on a Saturday after the Farmer's market. Much busier in Saturday, but still quick to get my drink and enough seating to relax and read while I had it. The second time, I had an Alien - matcha and raspberry(?). Sweet, but very well balanced he enjoyable. Iced was my choice with the heat and it worked very well. The location has a few items for purchase as well as coffee bags and such. Shirts are soft and the books and reusable bags are trending towards the eco-friendly atmosphere. Very good coffee, relaxing atmosphere, limited seating. Admittedly, I haven't tried many of the offerings that True North provides, but my mocha latte was spot on; great flavor and temperature. The menu looked pretty standard with a few specialized drinks and there were some pastries and other goodies if you want something to snack on as well. The space is comfortable and relaxing. The tasteful art is mounted on light gray walls with rich wood tones and plenty of potted plants around to break up the hard lines. There isn't much in the way of seating for a room this big and most of the tables were for 4-6, so I would feel a little less ready to work or read here than other shops, even with the free Wi Fi. The stools are also a little too high or the tables are a little too short, so I kept hunching. Form is great, function could use some work. This seems to be part of a growing True North complex, so don't get confused by the other True North businesses next door. I could definitely see myself coming here for coffee again! read more

I love their coffee, however, one barista who works here has been consistently rude. She seems to never smile and honestly is very just mean, this is coming from someone who has been a barista. She yelled very loudly that they were closing in two minutes abruptly and stared at us, after already letting us know they close soon.
