Heard about this place on facebook, as having the best ribs in Ohio, so decided to make the drive to give it a shot. We got takeout since we had a dog with us. After looking at some pics and reviews, decided I really wanted to try a burger too. So we ordered the monster burger with bacon/onion rings/cheddar, and the half rack of ribs meal. Burger--10/10, SO good, super thick and juicy, we will both be dreaming of it for weeks Ribs--7/10, one end was dry, and with just a half slab you don't want to waste a whole rib, but the middle was very good...also not a huge fan of the sauce on them Onion rings--9/10, really really good Sweet potato fries--5/10, just ok Corn muffin--2/10, really not good (Lol, side note, as I was going thru this giving ratings, I realized for the first time they didn't give me the baked beans I ordered as a side!) Also of note, I asked for a little cup of carolina bbq on the side, and I enjoyed it with the burger, ribs, and onion rings, so I'm glad I did! Also really liked their pickles. read more

Been coming here every chance I get but it's pretty far from LA. Originally appeared on Diners, Drive-in's and Dives. The French onion soup is wonderful, being a beef stock with a garnish of herbs. If West Virginia is almost heaven, than Boondocks is St. Peter's gate. How does one describe the food that is made by angels? No really? Tell me how to capture in words some of the best home cooking this far north of mason dixon? The staff is amazing. Owner is humbled even with her angelic creation. The gravy flows like wine. The mashed potatoes are the fluffiest clouds. But the star of the show is the wicked chicken. It is almost sinful how good this meal is, but I'll leave that up to my creator. We were very happy with this BBQ restaurant. We ordered three slab of ribs, a brisket platter, two Frisco burgers, And one of each kind of cheesecake. Everyone was more than satisfied with their dinner and we would be willing to drive another 50 minutes to get food from there again!! We are in town and heard about Boondocks so thought we would stop in! The inside is a smaller diner feel with memorabilia all over the walls. My family of five were seated very quickly and our waitress came out right away to get our drink orders and we ordered some appetizers: fried mushrooms, mozzarella skewers and crab cakes. The fried mozzarella was pretty good and the fried mushrooms were nice and crispy, although the mushrooms were very small. The batter was awesome though! The crab cakes were just ok. For dinner we ordered liver and onions, meatloaf, BLT, the grilled cheese burger and Bobby's Wasabi Special. All our dinners were awesome! The BLT had a load of bacon on it and the liver and onions were nice and tender. The wasabi burger was very flavorful but not super hot. My son had the grilled cheese burger and said it was good. The one thing I didn't like was, the sides that came with each meal (for example it came with green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy), if you wanted to change those sides to one of their other regular sides, like French fries or coleslaw, it was a $1 charge for each change. That's something I've never been charged for; not for regular sides. It does state it on their menu and the waitress told us as well. Just never been charged for a substitute like that. Now, let me tell you about our waitress. She was great! On her own, she's worth coming back here! She was very pleasant and nice and interactive with us and our kids. She kept our drinks filled and was just a pleasant person to be around. She wasn't overbearing but was around enough for us! I wish I could remember her name!!! We have ordered carry out twice and both times they haven't gotten the order right, and there chicken Alfredo spaghetti noodles in butter with some Parmesan and more butter Husband had ordered the meat platter 1/3 lb , ribs , chicken breast ,(cut in half ) 2 pieces of catfish and pulled pork. He got 2 sides French fries, coleslaw, and a small cornbread muffin. We went to eat and he got No pulled pork, No fish and I felt like I ate 2 rocks. $30 dollars. NO MORE NONE FOR ME. read more

One member of our party waited 10 more minutes after the first plate arrived. Food was average at best. Went here with large family gathering to celebrate our Mom. Service was really, really very good. Nice, nostalgic atmosphere of by-gone times. Now for the food. Baby back ribs were described as "awesome, fall off the bone tender, succulent", by everyone around the table. Pulled pork was great, very, very good! Spinach and crab dip was very, very good! Just stopped by. It was average at best. The staff was friendly and the food was ok. The place was empty and we waited 29 minutes on our food. While I was seated a couple waited a little over 10 minutes at the register before anyone acknowledged them. The prices are fair. The portion of food you get is a little on the small side and largely unseasoned. Like I said it was all "just ok". Probably wouldn't go again but I always like trying new places. read more

We drove an hour and a half to have lunch here when we heard they were going to be on Triple D, which we are obsessed with and go anywhere Guy has been when we travel, and this was a big disappointment. The service was good and its named right, its in the middle of nowhere and seems to be a gutted mobile home, but hey I've been to Hillbillly Hot Dog in WV and thats in a school bus so I'll try it. Food was mediocre at best. I had the baby back ribs. There is no way they were baby backs. Tons of fat, tons of sauce and not much meat. Hubby had the pulled pork and was ok. Cole slaw is super fine chopped which gives it a strange texture when your eating it and way to vinegary for me but hubby ate it. Best thing we had was the fries. Had lunch with a friend today and like the other two times it was underwhelming at best. The staff were wonderful friendly and i like the decor. The pulled pork was watery and mediocre. The brisket was excellent! Incredible bark and puts you in mind of beef bacon! What could possibly be bad with that just wish it would have been a larger portion. I would rate the coleslaw as ok. This is the 3rd time i went here each time i have felt the same way that i want to like it more but just wasn't quite blown away. We drove from Marietta to eat there for the first time. Pleasant drive up route 60. The inside was all decked out in wood from the floors up. Pictures of celebrities lined the walls. We sat down with Don Knotts, Elvis Presley, Albert Einstein and the Duke, John Wayne. Our server, Alisha, was just like family to us, or at least a good friend, and was very helpful and friendly. In fact, all the servers were that way. The food was really good too. My only disappointment would be the portions on the BBQ combo could be just a bit larger. But, everything was delicious and well seasoned. They made chocolate chip cookies for our kids for dessert. I will definitely come back and will recommend this place to anyone who is traveling to or through McConnellsville. read more

We drive in from near Thornville, Ohio every week or two just to get away, and so enjoy the trip to one of our favorite places to eat. The staff is always friendly and courteous and helpful, My wife and I always enjoy the ribs, as they are always delicious, and tenderly cooked.
