Today Tony and I stopped at Kiser's BBQ in Athens, Ohio for dinner after our movie date to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary yesterday. Tony started out upset from the jump for 2 reasons...it was 5:30 pm on Saturday..they do Ribs on Saturdays only and they were already 86'D on the menu...if they had a notice outside we would have went somewhere else immediately and the second reason, they do not serve BEER!!! But, I wanted to eat here! I'm the driver, my choice!! We both had Iced Teas. Tony went with the Carolina Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich with the Sweet Red BBQ sauce on the side with the Creamy Cole Slaw. I chose the Maxwell Polish Sausage Dog with Peppers and onions. We ordered a individual size order of Onion Rings to share. We always split everything!!! We only had to wait about 8 minutes for our food. It looked delicious!! Like I said it looked ..... Delicious!! The pulled pork was dry (glad for the sauce on the side) the Cole Slaw was great but it had huge pieces of cabbage...a little to big on cabbage chunks! But the taste was good. The Polish Sausage did not have onions...but it was huge! The peppers were hot. I can see how they were going for a version of a Chicago dog, but it was a miss! The onion rings were very good. Not very greasy, and they were fried well not burnt. I loved them! The iced tea was very good also. Definitely would go back again. Not ruling them out, I would love for you to try them out if in the area and let me know your opinion.

I come from the bbq capital of the country--Owensboro, Kentucky. I have not had good bbq since moving to Ohio 10 years ago until I discovered Kiser's. This restaurant is a well-hidden secret. Everything we ordered was perfect. Service was great!

This place is "Smack yo' mamma in da mouf " good!! Where do I begin? First off, down in Athens, OH by Ohio University lurks this amazing BBQ OU the outskirts of town. The building stands out with really cool

The. Best. Barbeque. I've. Ever. Had. Okay I've had this place like 5 times since being here for a few weeks and I'm devastated I move away again. The Carolina vinegar is absolutely delicious. Their sides are great too. Staff is friendly and fast. Ate outside with my pups and they were super accommodating. 10/10 recommend. I will miss the pork sandwiches everyday.

1/2. Stuffed Grilled Pork Sandwich with Sweet & Spicy Sauce

Second time visiting for me. We got in just before the rush. It was cool inside so we ate indoors today. Food was good. We shared kielbasa link, Nashville chicken strips. Loaded fries with chicken and loaded mac n cheese with brisket. Plus cornbread. I don't care for the cheese sauce on loaded mac or loaded french fries. Clumpy and flour rue based. No flavor. Service was friendly and fast even once the dinning area filled up. AC was nice and made a big difference.

Brisket Stuffed Grilled Cheese. It had bacon and pickles on it and the sauce it came with was Amazing!

Where to start? We pulled in and immediately discussed whether it was open or not ... it was dead,…read moreno lights on outside, the windows were dark and there was only one car in the parking lot during dinner hours on a Sunday. That should have told us something but we went ahead inside. We were told cavalierly to sit wherever we please since the place was almost deserted. We received our menus, and they looked okay (we did notice the prices were higher). We ordered mozzarella cheese sticks and meatballs for appetisers, an Italian and veggie sub, and a white pizza "to go" for later snacking. What a costly mistake! The meatballs were large and watery and the sauce so thick it wouldn't spread. The mozzarella cheese was passable for something out of the microwave. The salad arrived, very chintzy for the price. The subs were inedible. The bread practically cut our mouths- it had to be a few days old and very cheap. Made me think about the most affordable bread you can get for subs, but just warmed up in the microwave after it's become stale. The Italian was completely inedible - all the ingredients tasted cheap, bland and kinda "off." The veggie sub was mainly all cheap bread and a few sliced veggies, hardly any cheese or condiments. The place remained empty and we felt bad our waitress because we think she knew how bad the food was. $90 later (!!) we left feeling cheated and still hungry. Later that night, when we opened the "white" pizza, it was so bad it was funny. We expected creamy Alfredo goodness with spinach or artichokes, but in the end, it was a deflated pizza crust (paper-thin but somehow still greasy) that hurt your mouth, with the thinnest layer of cheese melted and tasting mainly like salt. We will obviously never go back and we can't not let people know! We're hoping this place closes soon so another, better restaurant will move in. We traded Lamb's Garden for this?

You can get those in bulk and you might ask who would ever...? My high school crew does once a year when the loser of our previous year's fantasy football league caters the next year's draft, that's who. The reason to go is the fried chicken but you can order skinless if you want to behave. They also sell biscuits and multiple sizes of cole slaw, mashed potatoes and gravy, and potato salad. You can dine in at one of probably ten tables and a surprising number of people do. The family business has earned loyalty over the generations. And just know, if you are back in Athens looking for some chicken nostalgia in late summer, make sure you don't land on County Fair Week in August. That is the one week a year they are closed at Miller's.
