The staff was friendly to residents and guests and you felt a part of their community. Wanting to stay with Holiday Retirement when relocating to Salem in 2017, we toured Hidden Lakes and what a lovely property. Friendly staff, live-in managers, weekly housekeeping, Wednesday outings and the ability to use the bus to attend appointments, pick up prescriptions or do personal shopping. Everything a senior needed to remain independent. The food was nothing special to write home about but it wasn't bad. Fast forward 2023... Holiday Retirement has undergone new ownership and is now Holiday by Atria. Corporate changes have effected staff, residents and the quality of living at Hidden Lakes. Staff are not as friendly, appear stressed and there is high turnover. Housekeeping is every couple weeks and the bus hours have been capped at 20 hrs per week. It is so undependable that residents no longer trust the bus will be available take them to appointments scheduled months in advance. Facility upkeep is minimal and the food holds little nutrition and is barely palatable. Even simple food requests are no longer accommodated. No more boiled eggs period. The oven quit so no more baked potatoes. Oh, and the toaster hardly works so scrap the idea of having toast. Residents are leaving as they are finding better activities, accommodations and meals at the smaller private communities and who can blame them. One can only put so much on COVID and after that management needs to step up and be held accountable. Resident's voices are not being heard and while amenities and services are going down the rents are increasing. At this point I could not, would not recommend this facility to anyone seeking a community for themselves or a loved one. In fact, I would advise them to steer clear.

Please do not place your loved ones here! Where do I even…read morebegin... let's start with the ED Alicia! She is THE WORST "BOSS" to have overseeing emoloyees. she hires her family before experienced candidates.(against Mosaic policy but Mosaic is a JOKE. She is not involved with the caregivers or med techs at all. I worked there for 8 months and saw her maybe 4 times. even when a resident was choking, she just walked past us like she didn't know where she was. She doesn't care about caregivers and will call you into her office to demean you and tell you your job isn't hard and berate you when you're unable to take lunches or breaks because while yes legally they are staffed "correctly" in the states eyes due to regulations, there are way too many residents to one caregiver and deaths happen very often whivh can be a lengthy process for caregivers to assist in and therefor, you have to give up your break to make sure everyone is taken care of and families are taken care of. but you will get in trouble for not taking a lunch or breaks. Alicias bestfriend is the med room manager and that little woman is HORRID. not only does she say the 'n' words regularly, she yells at people constantly, picks favorites, breaks laws when it comes to the med cart and also hires family and treats everyone horribly that isn't in her "inner circle." the med room manager and executive director drink together to the point they are high centering their vehicles while driving drunk, smoking marijuana in their office in their vapes and team up against workers they don't like until the worker quits due to hostile work environments. the caregivers manager, Jordan, sleeps with all his employees, drinks alllllll the time, does illegal substances and is a coward. they have caregivers doing the housekeepers jobs and the servers jobs on top of their alrwady heavy workload. they don't do 90 day reviews and you can kiss the idea of a raise at any point goodbye because they just won't. the have covered up SA reports between residents, left residents wounds to heal on their own and at times refusing to send residents to the hospital which has led to 2 deaths that I know of, they break the laws regarding passing meds and who is to be the one passing meds and are all around unprofessional. The residents are amazing. The building is beautiful. But don't fall for it. The management there will lower your loved ones life expectancy by YEARS. Oh and the activities director is HORRIBLE AND MEAN!

I have found the management responsive to my concerns, and that the caregivers are kind, caring and empathetic with Mom's situation. I was surprised at some of the comments made about this care facility, because never in my dozens on unannounced visits have I found the building anything but light, bright, clean and orderly, the dining room neat and prepared for the next meal, and the quality and variety of the food excellent. I toured many local care facilities before placing Mom here, and I can tell you Boone Ridge is, to my mind, head and shoulders above the rest. So Five Stars for Boone Ridge Senior Living, I appreciate all that they do for my family.

The staff was friendly and very approachable. Fast forward to today and it is a different matter. His room was not cleaned for over three weeks, the hallways have not been vacuumed, and dirty dishes have been left sitting on furniture in the hallways. When he goes to eat he is told that they are out of stuff all the time. No tea to drink, no bananas to eat and if he should ask for seconds he is told that if they give it to him they will not have enough to feed the people in memory care. For the amount of money he is paying to stay here this is completely unacceptable! We have been told that it is all due to staff being let go and that they are never out of food or drinks. Where is management? If they don't have the people to clean then why are they not helping? Why are they not in the dinning room talking to the residents and seeing what they are getting to eat or what is out? We will be moving my dad out of this facility just as soon as we can.

This was the first of several tours for the day so just had a quick bite of toast and fruit with coffee. The tour was mostly just a walk through the building and viewing a couple rooms. Then shown the bar and coffee service area. No real explanation of what was offered or why we should choose them. A bag with a brochure and info was on a table for us that we got AFTER the tour and the gal never went over anything with us. By the end of the day we ruled them out due to what we understood were the benefits and the cost compared to the same with other communities. Bonaventure has a lot of bells and whistles but they also had a higher cost. Don't forget when you are looking for an assisted living place that you will also have to pay for a care plan. We found no cap to theirs. Also consider if your loved one may eventually end up on Medicare should personal funding exhaust. I don't believe Bonaventure accepts Medicare so your loved one would have to go elsewhere and then you might find yourself in a pickle. Do your research and ask questions about care plans, community buy-in and Medicare etc.

Fortunately, in Bonaventure (south), the crisis had a happy ending. The staff are kind and caring...the activities are meaningful and fun....my parents were always treated with respect....and, above all, it was a safe environment I could trust. After several years' living there, both Mother (aged 88) and Dad (aged 95) have now passed away. But they both told me how happy they were, and how much they appreciated the good people who work there.
