I was in the area and was looking for soul food. Previous great reviews lead me to Boonie Mac in Zion. Parking: huge private parking lot. Owners were super nice and acommodating Eating area is super huge with big screen TVs and has space enough for private parties. I had lunch in the restaurant and ordered the soul food special of rib tips with 2 sides (Mac & Cheese, Sweet Potatos) and ordered extra wings. The wings were huge and flavorful, however slighty salty. The star of my meal was the rib tips. Lemonade was Delicious! So much food, I had plenty of left overs to take home. This is the best bbq restaurant I have had since moving from the south, and it is even better than the restaurants I've had down there! I walked in and saw their "Soul Food Special" and I knew I was in the right place. The Rib Tips are delicious, the sauce has such a good flavor, and the collard greens.. oh my.. I'm gonna have to go back more often to get more of those collards! The staff is so friendly and inviting, I got to thank them for the food and tell them how wonderful it was. The sitting area was quiet because they get more take out calls, which made it better for me to enjoy my food with my family in peace! Soul food dinner - catfish, yams, and greens were awesome. They get five stars. This rating is for the "peach cobbler". I hate to say it but it was not a good choice. I don't know what type of cobbler this was but it was not make with a pie crust. Perhaps a dump cake version with batter and peaches. From my Hubby's personal experience and his story goes a lil something like this, hit it! Upon landing at O'Hare in Chicago, I placed my to-go order. A fish wich, beef link and fried wing dinner with chicken dressing, Mac n cheese, greens and sweet potatoes (yams). The pics look good but you better believe that Boonie and Charles put their foot in those sides and such! Psst! Don't let the Fall weather deter you from getting that summer summer time lemonade. Boonie's version will quench that thirst!. Their good ole lemonade was perfectly tart and sweet (Hubby was drinking that hours after he got his order so I know he liked it like Mikey liked Life cereal! I was shocked at how rude the man was at the front register. I walked in and headed to the bathroom before I ordered and he screamed at me "where are you going"? "This is not a public bathroom!" "You didn even bother to ask to use the bathroom!" He was so rude, so I decided not to order food. I don't understand when places are trying to get business that they would treat people so badly. I will be telling all friends and family and will never come here again. My husband has customers in the area and purchases large amounts of food for offices. Now that he knows how rude they were he will never come here and will tell all of his colleague's to avoid purchasing here. Customer service is so crucial for restaurants. Nice little restaurant next to the Zion subway. All of the staff is very friendly and very welcoming. We walked in, ordered, waited 15ish minutes for the food, and took it to go! All of the food was really good, I ordered the 2pc catfish filet dinner which came with two pieces of white bread, a little container of hot sauce, a load of fries, and baked beans. I also got to try the rib tips and the Mac & cheese, which were both great tasting!! The Menu is on the smaller side so if you are not a meat fan, there are not a lot of options. This was my first experience coming here and what impressed me the most was the very friendly, inviting welcome from the lady behind the order counter. There's other local non chain BBQ places nearby but none of them are as friendly as this place. My experience with the others is usually service with an attitude with zero regard for the customer. The food was really good, I mean some of the best ribs I've had since I've been in the lake county area. Chicago is my birth place and Leon's was the best rib place back in the day, but tasting Bonnie Mac Shack rib tips took me back. I will be ordering again and again. My only complaint was I asked for extra sauce and didn't get it, but it won't stop me from coming back. My husband went to school with the owner and we always want to support black businesses. First time coming here. Very good flavor in everything I tried. The peach lemonade has very good flavor. A family member got the rib tips with chicken wings. They reported that it was good but it would have been better if the chicken was a little crispier. The Mac and cheese was warm and creamy. The large is enough to fill an average adult. I had the beef hot link as my meal. They say that the beef link is hotter than the pork link, I normally do not like spicy foods so I was a little scared to try it. In the picture you can see it comes on two pieces of white bread. The beef hot link was awkward to eat but it was delicious. We heard from reviews to try the butter Carmel cake so of course we had to. I normally do not like cake (because of the weird texture) so I wouldn't be the person to trust on this, but I thought it was okay. If you enjoy sweets and cake I would definitely recommend trying it. Not too busy in there, we waited for about 15-20 minutes after ordering and I would say that it is was good wait time for the amount of food we got.
