My cat Spartacus had a persistant cough and I was getting worried about him. I had driven by the Critter Doctor and noticed how close to our house it was, so I thought I'd give them a try. I called on a Monday to see if they could see him, the receptionist said they were busy, but would have the doctor call me to see if it was something he should be seen for. When the doctor called I explained the situation and she was able to fit us in. The staff is very friendly and their pricing is reasonable for a vet's office. I don't have any previous experience with vets to base this off of, but I had a wonderful experience this morning at Critter Doctor. I believe my cat would agree, other than the temp taking, and I don't blame her for that. I'm going to be flying with my cat next week, and needed a pre-flight health certificate to do this, so I called to make the appointment. Aside from being put on hold several times at first, everything went smoothly. Not being a morning person, I slept through my alarm, and didn't wake up til 1/2 hour after my appt time and called to see if I could still bring her in, and they said no problem. After getting there, I was greeted VERY warmly and felt welcome. Even Lexi, who's scared of everything, was calm and ready to explore. When we were taken to the exam room, it was a very short wait, only about 2-3 minutes. They were very friendly the entire time, and treated Lexi like the goddess she thinks she is. They managed to keep her calm through a Rabies shot, nail trimming, and relatively calm during the temperature. Lexi even started purring while the Dr was petting her. They didn't try to sell me anything or give any treatments that weren't necessary. In fact, when I mentioned trying the SoftClaws nail covers, I was actually talked out of them for a variety of reasons. If I wasn't moving out of town (the reason I'm flying out), I would definitely stick with Critter Doctor. I was very pleased, and astounded that Lexi seemed to enjoy it as well. read more

I've been seeing Critter Doctor now for 4 years. Dr Alt is the best that there is for feline doctors. She is patient with my boys and loving at the same time. She takes the time to undestand each of their personalities and what they need from her. She also takes the time to understand the owners and what they might need. I had one picky boy (whom has passed) that didn't like to be seen on a table so she would get on the floor with him. She also recognized that I would get stressed when he did, so she would have me exit the room to not esculate the situation. He would always leave calm. I currently have a boy that decided to have fun with string and got it stuck in his stomach. Dr Alt was caring during the entire procedure and after. My boy actually looks forward to going to the vet and there isn't any stress involved with it. Such a kind, friendly, understanding, patient, respectful, and thorough veterinary practice. Very happy I took my cat here! Was referred to this place by a friend for a second opinion and learned they could do a dental procedure cheaper than the other vet I tried (though, of course, your mileage may vary). I was then impressed by their thorough understanding and explanation of my cat's problem during his examination. Plus, it was just right down the street from me, which helped quite a bit since my cat doesn't like car rides. Great place, would highly recommend! Never have had any issues with the quality of care that my dog has received. Dr. Bernstein is knowledgeable and always wants to do as much as possible for my pet. They are not in the business of hand holding and codling the owner, so if that is the type of pet care you as a pet parent need, I would suggest you look elsewhere. However if you want a vet that is all business, and discusses all options then this is the place for you. The clinic is always clean, the staff is friendly, and the cost is reasonable. read more

Dr. Wendy is the best! We started taking our dog to her after she tore her ACL and wasn't recovering the way she should. With Dr. Wendy she has improved leaps and bounds. Not only does she work with your dog, she will work with you too to make sure you keep up the proper rehab at home. She will give you detailed notes and videos of your dog doing the exercises so you know how to do them at home. Our dog loves her and so do we. read more

I was having a tough time finding a vet that I felt comfortable using for my animal's care until I found Dr. Bernstein's Critter Doctor Animal Hospital. It's a small and friendly practice that is run professionally from top to bottom. It's the little things that add up like a spotless exam room and clean lobby, the phones being answered by a helpful person every time you call, to being able to get an appointment the next day when your animal companion is sick and you're worried. But it's the bigger things that really matter like how gentle the vet techs are when handling your pet and when the vet takes the extra time to explain each procedure and issue, answering all your questions and alleviating your concerns. When my senior cat had his recent dental cleaning, Dr. Bernstein called me during the surgery to consult on her findings and to ask how I wanted to proceed. She also called several times throughout the day to explain everything and to let me know when he awoke. I have never had this cat in for a surgery over the twelve years we've shared together and Dr. Bernstein made the experience as stress-free as possible for me and my sweet boy, Merllyn. She even went the extra mile and had him come back in to check that his tooth socket and gums were healing properly not just once, but twice at no extra charge. I also have had the pleasure of consulting with Dr. Alt and her obvious respect and admiration for felines shines through her practice. She was quick to assess my cat's injury and then wisely decide to keep the treatment as simple as possible for his preference. I would happily recommend either vet to anyone in need of quality care for their animal friends. I am so happy that I have Critter Doctor to take such good care of my furry companions. read more

I could not be more happy with the service and quality of care my cat Ninja received after going here. He had recently gone to another vets office (Rose Hill VCA) and had to be seen by an alternate vet b/c his regular doc was unavailable. The original reason for going in was to change his asthma medication b/c the prednisone was no longer working and in the meanwhile he was seeming to have some trouble with his back leg and urinating. SO we took him in and they poked and prodded him and ended up keeping him overnight to get a urine sample that turns out should not have been tested in the 1st place b/c it sat to long in the box before a tech collected it. Anyway to make a long story short, they gave us new asthma meds without any questions, supplements for his joint pain(back leg) and determined there was nothing wrong with his bladder or kidneys and told me I HAD to FEED SCIENCE DIET!!. He was home for a few days and I had already had it with that vets office and them shoving science diet down my face. I attempted to ask what they thought if I was to feed him the wellness brand of low calorie cat food and that's when they jumped down my throat and said not to use it based solely on the fact that it was not a prescription diet , she knew nothing else about it.. Well science diet is not good enough for my cat, so I will not feed it to them. We switched to the wellness despite what the vet said. A few more day has gone by and he stills seems to have trouble breathing and his meds are not working fully. I decided to take him to someone who specializes n cats and does not have a corporate sponsor, The Critter Doctor. We saw Dr. Alt and I don't think we could have received better care. She spent nearly 25 minutes in the room with us discussing his issues and explaining things in a manner that I could understand unlike any other vet had done. She was very thorough and complete. No one has ever bothered to tell me that my cat should be dewormed as a precaution to rule out the lung worms he could possibly have. After she she spent some time with Ninja she determined that one of his lungs was significantly worse than another and we need to find out why. She wanted to take xrays to rule out that he has a tumor in one side and discovered that he has an pneumonia on one side. I feel blessed that they were able to figure out what I though was wrong all along. She actually listed to what I had to say, for gods sake I know my cat better than anyone else and if I think he is having trouble I would hope the vets would listen. And she did. We are so very thankful that this was discovered before it became fatal and I will never take my cat back to that other clinic again. We will always go to the critter doc! Thank you again! read more

Dr. Bernstein and her staff are caring and compassionate professionals who really put the patients first. We recently had to euthanize an 11 year-old Great Dane and she and a technician came to our house after hours so that our dog could be in a friendly environment she was comfortable in. Great animal hospital! My Syrian hamster was having very smelly urine for the past few weeks, so we decided to have him checked just in case. We were able to get an appointment the next day! I always boarded my dog Dash at the Critter Doctor. They seemed to take excellent care of him. He loved it there, despite the fact that he always hated everyone else outside the family, so I know they did something right. It was nice leaving him knowing that if he got sick, they would take good care of him. I recommend that pet owners consider using this place as a pet motel, not just a vet clinic. read more

Awful! My experience with critter doctor has been horrable through out the times Iv taken my dog to them, today was the last straw. I took my dog there today so they could give her the nessesary shots she needed. No problem so far until I saw the bill. $50+ for an examination. I was shocked so I asked them exactly what they examined. The doctor said they looked at her skin, mouth and so on. I had no option but to take it. I left them with my dog to go do some things, when I come back the worst happend. I asked if they had found anything in the examination, they replied with a no. I was extreamly angry at this point, because my dog has some rashes in her mouth. We had some anti-biotics for it, we did not get them form here so they had no knowledge of it. Clearly if they had truly examined her they would have seen the rashes. When they where returning me my dog I heard some coughing in the back. A few second later I see my dog tryng to come twords me. The nurtures was clearly strangleing my dog right in front of me, she continued coughing because of the leash getting tighter as the nurse pulls back harder and harder. I run over to the nurse and rip the leash out of her hands. On my was to the car my dog was still coughing from being strangled. As I'm writing this I can hear my dog braking, I can tell she's stuggeling to bark. So don't go to critter doctor unless you want to watch your pet get strangled/waste $50+ for a useless examination. read more

Only the best for my kids! Critter Doctor has been my vet for over 20 years. They are caring and provide my kids with the very best attention and care. They are warm and passionate about animals. They really go above and beyond, taking the extra time to teach me about caring for my pets, even when that became very difficult. The Critter Doctor staff are always friendly and helpful. They have an advanced veterinarian hospital and provide boarding. Their motto is "Taking Care of Pets and Their People!" They live up to that motto. In good times and bad. They have been there to support and comfort me when things got tough. I will be forever grateful for their exceptional care and kindness. Doc Wendy is part of my family, just as much as my pets. Critter Doctor has been awarded the "Best Vet" by The Best of Kirkland many times. It is well-deserved, but not a surprise to me. I knew years ago she was the only vet for us. Critter Doctor is caring and passionate about animal welfare. They started the Trust Fund for Abandoned and Relinquished Pets (TARP). Critter Doctor helped our kitty get over a bad tooth issue which made him a much calmer cat and improved his breath. Both our cats have been going to critter doctor for a long time and have been well cared for. Fortunately they have had very healthy lives so we don't need to go in often, but when we have they have always been seen quickly and attendant to professionally and with care. The issue with my cat's tooth happened a little while ago - he started drooling and we thought this was just because he had entered the "geriatric" stage of his life (sad but true.) We decided to get his teeth cleaned while he was going to be under for some xrays for an unrelated issue and during that time Critter Doctor found several of the teeth to be rotted and needed removal. They called us and explained the situation and our options and the related cost and we decided to do it. I brought home a much calmer cat. My husband noticed shortly after that his breath had improved a great deal and we both noticed that he seemed much calmer and more content. Poor thing was in pain before and we didn't even know it. If/when I get more fur babies I will be happy to take then to Critter Doctor. Both doctors and the staff are nice to both animals and humans - always taking the time needed to effectivly treat and asses health. Oh, and the unrelated xray issue - turned out that the xrays did not show the need for any immediate action and Critter Doctor was very up front about telling us that and not recommending further treatment - they didn't try to get us to purchase or put my cat through anything not needed. read more
