Review of "PROOF" In April 2026, I scored tickets to a Saturday afternoon performance of Proof. With the debuts Broadway performances of Ayo Edebiri ("The Bear") and Golden Globe Winner Don Cheadle, the cast explores the dynamics of a family as they navigate grief, legacy, intelligence, and belief. All as it relates to the mathematical genus of a father and one of his surviving daughters. With the small cast of four you have the opportunity to enjoy actors you may admire in intimate roles. This play was an additional treat for me, because I was able to see Kara Young (Purpose & Purlie Victorious - Tony Award winner) on stage in all her excellence again. I thoroughly enjoyed these performances. Just A Note: Booth theatre is one of the smaller venues, where there appears to be no bad seats. However I was seated in the orchestra, so I had clear sight lines to the stage. read more

Scored a rush ticket for proof on a Saturday evening 8pm show and the seat was great. I can't imagine that there is a bad seat in the whole theater. I was able to see everything from my seat (left orchestra, row E, seat 13). Bathrooms were clean, I was able to use before the show but didn't see how they were during the intermission. read more

An intimate Broadway theatre with the usual tight seating offering fairly efficient crowd flow, good sight lines and friendly ushers. We were supposed to see "The Roommate" here last year, but one of the stars (Mia Farrow?) apparently got sick, so the entire audience was dismissed upon arrival. We got a refund but still a bummer; advance notification from the theatre could have saved patrons (many from out of town) an unnecessary trip. Thank goodness "Little Ridge Bear Road" came off as scheduled yesterday, with an outstanding performance by Laurie Metcalf as the fiercely independent matriarch of a troubled rural Idaho family. If you're looking for hard hitting drama (interspersed with humorous riffs to lighten things up) based on timely themes like impersonal health care, income disparity and addiction, you'll love this play. No gimmicks, just a spare set and fine writing/acting brought down the house with a standing ovation. read more

Saw PROOF w/ Don Cheadle and the acoustics and seating made for a great intimate experience.

My biggest issue with this theater is that they wait a weirdly long time to let audience members in. I've seen many productions here over the years and all have been good to great, but I'm really confused what makes Booth's policy different from other Shubert theaters when it comes to letting in patrons? Is this something post-Covid? As far as recent productions I've seen here, I've been to Kimberly Akimbo, The Roommate, and John Proctor is the Villain. I looked through its production history and pre-Covid, I saw at least four shows here. I don't remember them waiting until like 10-15 minutes before a show to let people in. It's frustrating when I want to put my stuff down at my seat, go to the bathroom, and look at merch to purchase. There's no time to do any of those things. I was at the theater 30 minutes before it starts, waited on the long line with everyone else to where I was under the Minskoff entrance, and I didn't get seated until like 8 minutes. I do not like being rushed so I didn't even bother getting up to see how long the line for the bathroom is and I thought maybe I'd have time to purchase merch but there were at least four people ahead. I don't want to rush back and squeeze past people. Aren't they hurting their bottom line by letting us in last minute? It started maybe 5-6 minutes late so it's not like they're not aware more time is needed to get everyone situated. Otherwise the security and facility itself are fine. Normal old Broadway theater that's smaller and needs updating, but I think security did a good job at managing the crowd at stage door. read more

It might not be as grand as some of the other Broadway theaters, but it's still a lovely place to see a show. Just a heads-up, the seating can be a bit snug if you're tall or wide, which is pretty typical for many of the older New York theaters. We were there for the premier of Little Bear Ridge Road. Laurie Metcalf was amazing. Getting into the theater was a breeze. Up in the mezzanine, you've got a great view of the stage, but hard to catch a glimpse of anyone on the main level. Oh, and if you need to use the restroom, the ones on the lower level are much bigger and have a nice open space with seating while you wait for your party. The lower level kind of reminds me of Radio City Music Hall, but on a smaller scale. read more

I came to this theater to see Kimberly Akimbo while I had some family friends visiting from out of town. The theater is quite small although it can seat quite a lot of people. The theater is absolutely beautiful, and I couldn't help but admire the decor of the walls, seating, and lighting. They also had space for merchandising and concessions, which I was surprised to see. I bought a Diet Coke, and it came in this cute Kimberly Akimbo cup. It was like a drink and a gift at the same time. I still have the cup. The show was inspiring and emotional all at the same time. The actors were talented and perfectly represented their given roles. I laughed, cried, and reflected. Not a lot of performances have gotten me to do all three except for Our Town and Cabaret. I believe it was a truly exceptional play with talented writers, set designers, and actors, and a beautiful and classy theater. If you're a local or if you're coming in from out of town, book your tickets now! read more

Early Summer 2023, Kimberly Akimbo won a Tony Award for Best Musical. It has always been on my bucket list of shows to watch in New York City. I was also told that if you've seen Shucked prior, you'll have an even better experience when watching Kimberly Akimbo! This past Tuesday before flying out to NYC, I had put in for lottery and won a ticket for Wednesday evening! Lucky me, I got to see it for a really good deal. My seat was Orchestra Left in Row H! Booth Theatre is right in the middle of Times Square/Theatre District. Coincidently it's right next door to Junior's Restaurant & Bakery on 45th St. The concession bar downstairs was selling drinks to guests watching the show, but I chose not to in the event I doze off while the show is going on ;-) This theater is extremely safe with metal detector machines upon entrance and security guards as well. Restrooms were also on the basement level very tidy and clean. Best part, it's only 4 short blocks away from my hotel! read more

My friends and I came to this theatre to watch Kimberly Akimbo. It feels a bit smaller than other theatres, but this doesn't take away from its charm. There are two floors and the second floor seating is only eight rows long. It is angled so you're able to see at almost any seat. If the person in front of you is a bit taller, you might need to lean forward for a few scenes if characters are at downstage left or right. On the second floor is a women's bathroom with two stalls. I never used the downstairs one, but my friend said it was just as packed as the upstairs one during intermission. There were water fountains downstairs. The staff here is a bit strict. I got yelled at upon entering when I took about 10 seconds to pull up the tickets. Our show was a very sad one, so I cried after it was done and got yelled at to leave the theatre when I sat behind for a minute in my seat after the show. The seats here are decently comfortable, but if you're taller you might feel a little cramped. Thankfully it's not as tight as some older theaters can be. If you have a show you want to see, this is a nice theatre to watch it at. The facade is stunning and they did a great job with all the branding for Kimberly Akimbo on it. read more

From chaos and being yelled at by security staff as we attempted to line up to go through security, to being sternly lectured by usher I literally felt verbally assaulted and bullied. Days later, I'm still carrying the anxiety and battered. All of the patrons attempting to go through security, and sitting waiting for the show to begin, experienced the same thing. I attempted to complain to whom I believe was the house manager and she just smirked and said.."Well, you're in the theatre now". There was no justification for any of this. Prior to entry - Security kept yelling "single file - single file" and I do mean yelling. He was angry and out of control. Then he stopped allowing any patrons through - saying "I'm closing this thing down until all of you get in a single line". Note - there was no fencing or staff in place (as there were at all other theatres) to guide patrons to a single line. Regardless - we were not storming the gates - but trying to self manage forming some sort of line. there was no justification for the anger and yelling abusively to patrons. read more

From what I could tell, there is no bad seat in the house. I love love loveeeeee the smaller theaters because you always get a great view, the lines for the bathroom are never too bad, you don't deal with the massive crowds. Plus, they are cozier and give me more of that quaint vibe I'm always after. They are just BETTER. I visited Booth with my mom to see Kimberly Akimbo (side note: go see this show before it's run ends in April. It was so good!!) and we had the best time. Sure, the water bottles are $6, but that's show biz baby. The seats were comfortable (and I am 5'10" so I rarely will say that). We sat in the front row of the Mezzanine and the view was perfect. But, like I said with tiny theaters, I really don't think there is a bad or even a partial view from anywhere. So to recap: Feel good booking tickets for a show at Booth Theatre. Go see Kimberly Akimbo, bring your own water bottle and snacks. Enjoy! read more

We were in New York last month and saw Kimberly Akimbo at the Booth Theatre. It was our first Broadway show in many years, and we had a great time. We caught the Friday night show, which started at 8:00, and squeezed in a 5:00 dinner with parent friends that included many rounds of cocktails. We ended up hustling to arrive between 8:05 and 8:10, but figured it wouldn't actually start on time. Turns out Broadway, or at least the Booth Theatre, runs on schedule. The usher was not happy to see us, and she made it very clear that we were not to enter until she picked the right moment to open the doors. Fair enough, and she didn't make us wait long. Our seats were at the front of the mezzanine, and they gave us a great view of the stage. The theater was on the small, humble side, but it was nice and made sense for Kimberly Akimbo, which is a fun, charming musical but not an enormous production. I'd definitely recommend Kimberly Akimbo if you're looking for a night of Broadway entertainment. It won five Tony Awards this year, including Best Musical, and I found it pretty delightful. I liked the theater too and would be happy to go back for another show. read more

Tight seats, $8 to check two small bags since seats are so small then told no ice for drink that cost $33 dollar and add rude bartender. He was abrupt and acted like they were so busy he couldn't be bothered. Our checked bags sat on the floor next to the bar for all to see or take!??? I sure hope show isnt the same level we have seen so far? read more

To be clear, Kimberly Akimbo gets 5 stars. The Booth Theatre itself gets 4 stars because of the vertigo-inducing balcony. I'll have to make a note to self to only buy orchestra seats here! Wooooo! read more

Came here to see Kimberly Akimbo while visiting in New York City! If this is your first time on Broadway, you might be surprised by how small the theatre is, so if you're trying to get the full elaborate experience, maybe try booking a bigger a show. That being said we loved the small intimate feel, but unparalleled Broadway-level production! I will warn that this particular theatre does not allow food, and they don't sell concessions (contrary to what you'll see in the Broadway website). I visited while pregnant and needed a snack during the 2.5 hour show. Luckily the theatre staff that night was very understanding and accommodating about letting me nibble on my own granola bars. read more

I'm a huge Broadway play/musical aficionado and must have visited most theaters around the vicinity . Since the Booth theater is smaller than most, apparently 750+ seats from what I read, with one overhead balcony, literally every seat in the house will offer a good view. I had the opportunity to pay the Booth Theater a visit last night to see Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus. We had 13th row center orchestra seats (with nobody sitting in the row in front of us)--and a perfect view for the duration of the one act, 90+ minute play. The seats were a bit snug and didn't offer much legroom (despite what some other reviews might suggest); however, I'm petite so it was fine for me. The décor was ornate with the restrooms located one flight down. A vintage lounge with cushiony sofas allows for a quick rest stop. Since the play was not sold out, there were no lines waiting for the restroom (post play). About the play. I thought it was horrendous and painfully unfunny (#sorrynotsorry). I am a Nathan Lane fan and although there were a couple, albeit brief, funny moments I couldn't wait for the play to end (bad sign). Win some, lose some when it comes to Broadway. I really wouldn't recommend this play; however, the theater is delightful to keep in mind for future productions. read more

A tension filled 90 minutes... Kerry Washington & Steven Pasquale gave a great performance. American son is a limited engagement (16 weeks only) about who we are as a nation, and how we deal with family, relationships, love, loss, race, and identity. The Booth theater Seats 806 persons and is a bit smaller and less extravagant than some of the other theaters but it's Broadway and regardless of the seating, there's always a great view. It has more of an intimate feel and although small, you can definitely endure 90 minutes for a spectacular performance. There are no escalators or elevators so make sure to book your tickets accordingly as there are 2 flights of stairs (31 steps) that lead up to the mezzanine. Tall people may have a problem with legroom in the mezzanine so take that into consideration also when booking tickets. The play examines racial division in America and had such an explosive ending, it was riveting. So intense!! For theater lovers, It's 1 play you simply can not miss. read more

Was here for Yelp Night at Les Liaison Dangereuses. There is no way you can miss the Booth Theatre as you walk by. Architectural design and structure of the building is from another time period. Perfectly located right across the street from NY Marriott Marquis and adjacent to Juniors Cheesecake. I was just at Juniors Cheesecake in Brooklyn the day before. How wild is that. As you walk into the building, and look above and notice all the chandeliers greeting you. There are two stalls in the ladies room upstairs as well as small bar area if you heading towards seats to the Mezzanine Level. The stage is small but if it could talk imaging how many productions this stage has been through. Wow! Visibility up at the Mezzanine level is good unless you are in the seats towards the end. Will be back again for another show. The convenience with the Booth Theatre is the location-right in the heart of the Theater District. read more

Kerry Washington gives a passionate performance, allowing the audience to feel her frustration and anger as a mother simply trying to find her son. This intimate theater seats about 750, about half as many people as the bigger venues (I.e. Shubert & Winter Garden.) Perhaps that's why there seemed to be enough bathroom stalls in the ladies' room, for once! The theater seats, though quite close together, were clean & looked to be newly upholstered. We saw "The Boys in the Band," a limited-run show with a star-studded openly-gay cast. From our seats, only about five rows back, we got a fabulous view of Matt Bomer in his skivvies for the first 10 minutes of the play. (Can you tell this was the highlight of my week?! Let's just say this was the first time I've hung around after a Broadway show to meet the cast.) Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, & Andrew Rannalls were the only other actors I recognized, but every single actor brought something amazing to the story & the stage; moments of vulnerability, humor, bitchiness, morality, violence, & self-hate tell the stories of gay men & their struggles with friendship & love. Though the play is set in the late-60s, the issues & overall message transcends time & is still relevant today. The script is witty & gripping & at times, heart wrenching. And this all takes place at a birthday party! Go see this revival before it leaves the Booth Theater in August. No intermission. read more

The Boys in the Band is now playing a limited run at the Booth Theatre. I had the pleasure of seeing a weekday matinee and enjoyed it very much! There was quite a bit of anticipation around this particular show, with a line down the block to get inside before 2 pm. That being said, once patrons were allowed inside, we moved quickly into our seats, grabbing some white wine along the way (because it's not an afternoon show without white wine!). Everyone working that day made sure to remind us several times that there was no intermission and once we exited the theater, we would not be allowed back inside. I'm sure that's often an issue and never hurts to repeat. The set design for this play is particularly awesome -- lots of smoky mirrors... and yes, there's plenty of man candy to enjoy. I particularly liked Andrew Rannells and Matt Bomer, they're two of my favorites anytime. One small complaint is that the street noise can be heard from inside the theatre, especially during a quiet moment during the show. NBD if the play is set in Manhattan or a busy city like it, but I can imagine that it could be problematic if that's not the setting. Beyond that, it was a true Broadway experience and I've been raving about Boys in the Band all week. read more

The Booth is a gorgeous intimate theatre. I had a small break from a conference I was attending. So, I decided to catch the matinee of American Son. I was able to purchase a ticket (a couple of hours beforehand at the box office). The box office gentlemam was helpful and friendly. I bought a stellar seat in the orchestra area.The ushers were also helpful. But, they are serious about phone use. So, turn off your phone. I promise you will survive lol. The doors opened about a half an hour before the play, so I checked out the space. The Booth offers coat check and beverages on the main floor and the lower level. There are quite a few bathroom stalls in this older space, but as you might guess not enough. read more

The Booth Theatre is not all that fancy or ornate as compared with others on Broadway, but it has a charm all it's own and gets the job done in workingman's kind of way. Small bar on main floor and one up on mezzanine area. Women's bathrooms on top and bottom floors. Men's bathroom only on bottom floor. Good acoustics and sight lines. As with most of these places the seating is a bit cramped with little leg room. Seats are padded and comfy though. Really good AC keeping the place cool. Nicely kept theater. It's been renovated very well. It gives off the vibe of a cozy spot to see a show as it's not one of the bigger venues. Plus, it's right next to Junior's Cheesecake which offers a quick walk over for some after-show gluttony! read more

Five stars for Meteor Shower, three for the theatre itself. Whether you love or hate her, Amy Schumer has more zeros in her bank account for a good reason (she's talented :p). Was a very last minute decision with my friend and we were in the rear orchestra fourth row (I believe mine was D8). I did have a good view don't get me wrong but I don't want to be like two centimeters away from my friend LOL personal space is important. Don't go if you're claustrophobic (I am serious). Nevertheless, the show was hilarious and witty (a must see for all you pun lovers). Enjoy as it's a limited engagement! read more

THE BOYS IN THE BAND, the newest New York Broadway play. starting Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Andrew Rannells and others. I saw it today June 13, 2018 at the Booth theatre and found it simply insightful and reminiscent of days past. all scenes were set in a 2 floor appartment setting, back when mirrored walls, shagg carpet and sunken livingrooms where the latest crave. And oh gosh...so much red!. Beautiful red. I loved it. I found Zacharys' character to be a hoot! The cast also included Robin De Jesús as Emory, Brian Hutchison as Alan, Michael Benjamin Washington as Bernard, Tuc Watkins as Hank, and Charlie Carver as Cowboy. read more

Took in a matinee for Kimberly Akimbo to celebrate my birthday. Very disappointing experience. Usher did not show theater goers to seat; someone else was parked in my assigned seat with their feet in the chair! When I reported this to Atlantic Theater Co. I was informed that since the show had moved to Booth Theater, the Atlantic Theater Co. no longer had anything to do with the show. When I contacted the Shubert Organization, they offered to send me coupons for a drink and snack as though the Booth Theater was a movie theater. Broadway tickets are much more expensive than going to the movies! Shame on you Booth Theater! and double shame on you Shubert Organization! read more

About the theater: The Booth Theater is one of the better Broadway houses I've been able to visit. It's smaller and more intimate. Regardless of where you sit, you'll be able to have a pretty good view. I was in mid-mezzanine and I saw each actor perfectly clear. The staff is very friendly (this isn't always the case at Broadway shows; especially the shows that draw a large crowd like this one). The seats are small, as with most of the historic theaters. So, PRO TIP: Make sure you stretch those legs before seating. Finally, I appreciate the stage door setup. There was enough room for us all to get signatures and it was a smooth operation. About the play: "American Son" was 90 minutes of tension and suspense. Kerry Washington, Eugene Lee, Jermy Jordan and Brian Avers (who was in for headliner Steve Pasquale) all did an amazing job. It's hard to imagine but this is the reality some people must face, with police brutality seemingly increasing - or maybe becoming more realized with the use of video - and a culture that buys into stereotypes and believing the worse in people. The ending is will leave you speechless and while it's closing soon, because of limited engagement, I'd try to see it if you can. read more

Comfortable small theatre. The seats are comfortable with a good amount of legroom. The sight lines are good. The sound / acoustics are good. Overall, it is one of the better Broadway theaters. It did take a surprisingly long amount of time to leave the theatre at the end of the show. read more
