Here's from quick facts on this historic theater: 'The St. James Theatre, originally Erlanger's Theatre, is a Broadway theater at 246 West 44th Street in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City, New York, U.S. Opened in 1927, it was designed by Warren and Wetmore in a neo-Georgian style and was constructed for A. L. Erlanger. It has up to 1,709 seats[a] across three levels and is operated by ATG Entertainment. Both the facade and the auditorium interior are New York City landmarks.' When I did a little research on this theater for this review I stumbled upon past productions and wow! I didn't realize my very FIRST theater experience was at this theater seeing "My One and Only" with Tommy Tune and Twiggy. It was a great show and I've had many memorable experiences here: The Producers, 42nd Street, Gypsy (2x with Bernadette Peters and Patti Lupone), On A Clear Day You Can See Forever with Harry Connick Jr. As majestic as it is, it could really use an elevator and bigger restrooms. Additionally, the seating space for legs is limited. The seats do squeak.. The best seating for me is Mezzanine and aisle seat. This seating allows me to see ( I'm petite thus if a tall person sits in front of me.. well you know) and to stretch my legs. Today I saw "Queen of Versailles" ( recommend the show) and had best seat; Mezzanine D28. All petite people take note of that seat! The personnel are friendly and helpful. As for restaurants, Sardis and Juniors are nearby. There are of course snacks and drinks served at the theatre. I've enjoyed my theatre time here, just needs a bit of renovation. St Jame's theatre is located 246 West 44th Street Take D to 42nd StreetBryant Park and 6th walk @10 minutes to walk to theatre Take A to Port Authority and leaves you @5 minutes away

Just had to update my review with yet another spectacular experience at the St James! This time around, I saw Sunset Boulevard. The show is one of the most incredible shows I've seen and definitely a must see before it closes in July! I got $45 rush tickets on TodayTix and we were front mezzanine. Great seats! Shoutout to the staff running the intermission bathroom line. I wish I got their name because they were full of energy and so helpful! This theater has a comfortable seats and bars on each level. One of my favorite Broadway houses!

You can see how close we were to the people sitting in front of us.

St. James is still a good theater to see a show. As I said in my last review I really recommend you get aisle seats if possible. I've never had an obstructed view in this historic theatre. I did learn one important thing at this visit. My party was seated in the last row up top. We could see the stage fine. The woman in front of us complained to the usher that the woman in front of her had a hairdo blocking her view. She wanted the usher to ask the woman to take her hair down! The usher said he was sorry he couldn't do that but he could give her a cushion to raise her up. In turn he told us we may need to sit on cushions also. We all received a cushion and we were happy. In fact the cushion made the seat more comfortable. So if you have a problem just tell an usher.

I've seen at least 2 shows at this theater in the last year and a half. Illinoise and Sunset Blvd. The theater is beautiful and in good condition. The seats aren't the most comfortable, but also not the most cramped I've experienced either. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

I visited the St. James Theatre for the second to last performance of Sunset Blvd. last Saturday. The production was great; the theater is pretty standard for Broadway: the seats were uncomfortable, the lines for the bathroom were long (it was a sold-out show, after all), etc. But the lines for the bar weren't that bad, and the theater feels huge and has some great, old architectural elements. I had a front row seat on the balcony, which I usually love - I love not sitting behind anyone, because I'm so short - but this was so elevated, it didn't feel like a very good seat. But still - pretty standard for Broadway theaters. I'm sure I'll be back for the Queen of Versailles later this year.

This is a very intimate theatre right in the heart of the theatre district. We were all the way up and still had a decent view. The bathrooms up there are a problem...long line. I ran first during intermission because I wasn't going to deal with that. Drinks are PRICEY. I just decided I can sit through the show without a drink haha. Great sound quality in this theatre.

Recently visited the St James for the iconic Sunset Boulevard. Such an interesting theatre with lots of quirks and charms. Not my favorite theatre experience in terms of venue/staff, but enjoyed my time here!

Great show and decent seats! Caught Sunset Blvd at St. James Theatre and had a great time. The seating was.... cozy, but it's exactly what you'd expect in a Broadway theater. It's a super short walk from Port Authority, which made getting there easy. I wouldn't recommend driving unless you're ridiculously early--between congestion pricing and traffic, it will eat you alive LOL. Save yourself the stress (and cash) and take the train or bus in. Anyways, it was a great show and good theater!

I watched an afternoon matinee of Sunset Blvd. It's a decent size theater and I loved the gold ceiling. Nicole was captivating to watch & her voice is gorgeous. Overall a great time at the theatre!

Had a really wonderful experience getting to see Sunset Blvd here recently. There were definitely a lot of stairs here, as there usually are in all of these theatres. Restrooms and seats tend to be a little more of a tight squeeze, but it's not the worst one I've experienced here on Broadway. Also, it's always so nice to look up at the beautiful ceilings.

I wish there was a separate page for reviewing the production of Sunset Blvd. Since it is now, I tried to add it, but I keep getting errors and Yelp has no way to contact for help. Annoying. I digress. 3.5 stars for the theater. 5 stars for the production of Sunset Blvd. Andrew Lloyd Webber's reimagined Sunset Blvd. is a must see for seasoned theater goers!! Nicole Scherzinger was nothing short of amazing. Wow. Hands down, she seemed like a veteran on Broadway with an amazing voice and stage presence. Do NOT see this with anyone else as the lead if you can help it!! In addition, Max Von Mayerling was a standout for me (playing David), as was Betty Schaefer (playing Grace). Excellent casting. The storyline was interesting. Acurate synopsis by the production: "Haunted by her memories and dreams, movie star Norma Desmond yearns to return to the big screen. A struggling screenwriter who can't sell his scripts to the Hollywood studios may be her only hope, until their dangerous and captivating relationship leads to disaster. Drenched in champagne and cynicism, SUNSET BLVD. focuses the lens on the ambitions and frustrations of its characters and puts their intoxicating need for fame and adoration in stark close-up." I think this storyline will especially appeal to women and gay men who understand (moreso than straight men) how aging and becoming "irrelevant" CAN affect your sense of self-worth if you don't take proactive measures to develop other interests beyond looks, popularity, fame, etc. Ironically, my perspective as a woman who is Nicole's exact same age is that it was bravely vulnerable and endearing how she is embracing getting older in life. She was not afraid to show this in the many VERY upclose shots on her real skin that was far from perfect. I say "Bravo" to that and it makes her even more beautiful to me for being so brave as a real-life starlete who is starting to show her own age. It was funny to me how that tied into the message in the show. I don't really want to ruin the experience so I'm not going to say much about what makes this experience unique. And, I am not going to ruin the surprise, but there is a part of the show that is EXTREMELY unique which starts the second act, so don't miss it by being in the bathroom because they will NOT seat you if you are late back to your seat. I doubt if it's ever been done before in a musical. In addition, we liked the way they used the additional on-stage cameras with a back screen... it is all very groundbreaking. The lighting is phenomenal. Everything about it was very unique. So much kudos to go around with this production! Even my husband, who is less of a "musical lover," said he really liked it. He liked Moulin Rouge #1 and this #2 out of our seven shows this trip. I liked this #2 and Cabaret as my #1. But it was a close second for both of us. We must not have been the only ones who thoroughly enjoyed it, because I've never seen so many ovations THROUGHOUT the ENTIRE show. And a well-deserved standing ovation at the end. We saw the 8PM show on Monday 12/23/24. Paid $442.84 total for the 2 hrs and 35 minutes show. Our seats were Orchestra Rear Left, Row L, Seats 1& 3 (see my pics for perspective). For the theater, know that the seats are VERY close to the next row in front of you, so my husband (who is 6'2") was VERY thankful to have an aisle seat.

The theater is clean and well cared for. My review is specifically for those who are hard of hearing and hopefully for the box office. If you need an assistive listening device, you need to understand what is going to be in front of you. In my case, it was a solid wall that was too high for me to see over unless I leaned forward or sat in a child's booster. I am 5'3" so that's a problem. I also use a telecoil to pair with my hearing aids and had to hold the box out over the partition wall for 2.5 hours in order to hear because if i didn't, all I got was static. I was yelled at by an usher for it as well because you're not allowed to touch the partition. The man next to me left at intermission for uncomfortable seating. Please research the seats before you buy if you're like me. I would hate to have this happen to someone else. Luckily the show wasn't a banger because if it had been, it would have ruined my experience.

This is a review mainly for Sunset Boulevard although the theater itself was fantastic too. I especially appreciate the bathrooms as there were many stalls and no line. Something to note for Sunset Boulevard is that once you leave the theater, there is not entry until curtain call or intermission. At first I thought this was a bit of a strange rule, but watching the show I soon learned why. Sunset Boulevard was one of the most innovative shows I have ever seen. I know this is a reprisal but the ways they portrayed the story was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. - I was there when Mandy Gonzalez who is technically the understudy was playing and even she was absolutely amazing. The way that she could hold the audience in the palm of her hands was incredible and she 100% deserves the career that she has today. I really can't believe that she was the understudy as she could've totally originated the role. - The choreography of this performance was so methodical and beautiful. I loved all the shapes, timing, and formations of each of the pieces. - I loved that the whole thing was in a monochromatic tone as really only black-and-white were the only colors visible. I've never seen a musical with such strong color scheming and it felt like I was watching a film. - The camera work is absolutely amazing as they were shooting the actors and directly projecting it on the screen. I loved that they also went backstage and allowed us to get a glimpse of their daily life. - I think my new all-time favorite musical scene is in Sunset Boulevard as there was a scene where the main male character walked through 44th street while his singing and photography was being projected onstage. It was so creative and innovative, there really is nothing is describe being an audience and watching this. - This was one of the best scores I've ever heard as the music was absolutely stunning with the long strings in play. Overall I cannot recommend watching Sunset Boulevard more!

"Hamilton wrote the other 51!" Running time: about 2 hours and 45 minutes including a 15 minute intermission. I went to the room where it happens. I write this review like I was running out of time. Yesterday is a memory. Today is an opportunity. Tomorrow is not promised. Non-stop. Keep writing! I tell my story of my experience. It was exciting, lively and upbeat which does takes you back in time of Revolutionary America in period clothing with modern language. Ticket prices are highly extortionate! Tickets starts $127.00 to $155.00 for upper balcony or standard face-value seats. My rear orchestra ticket was an astonishing extortionate $228.00! Hamilton, the Broadway musical makes use of the Richard Rodgers Theatre's double-nested rotating stage (turntables) prominently to create a dynamic, continuous movement and cinematic flow. I wish I saw the 2015 original cast Alexander Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Aaron Burr (Leslie Odom Jr.). Wait for it. Forward, eleven (11) years later I am now seeing it in 2026. I now have another Playbill and Broadway show ticket to add to my growing Playbill collection. Casting is non-white actors as the Founding Fathers of the United States and other historical figures. As per Lin-Manuel Miranda, songwriter, actor, and producer who described Hamilton: "America then, as told by America now." There is no traditional stage curtain for this Broadway show, but it did start and end on time - on point. There are 34 musical numbers total (17 musical numbers in each Act). The narrative is almost entirely sung and rapped through, thus, the numbers flow directly into each other without the traditional pause to segue in-between numbers. There is very little dialogue for spoken word as I would like a mix. There are occasional expletive explicit laden lyrical lines/ verses as "Washington On Your Side", "Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)" depicting strong explicit language and "Say No To This", "goddamnit." This includes uncensored F-word during the stress of Hamilton's affair. "Cabinet Battle #1" & "Cabinet Battle #2" feature insults and harsher colloquial terms like "pain in the ass" and "shit." There are other numbers where expletive explicit laden lyrical embedded are "Bastard" and "whore." Surely, my teddy bears speak more eloquently than thee! My predilection for Hamilton musical numbers are: Satisfied Wait for It That Would Be Enough History Has Its Eyes on You Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down) Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story Live with intention. My passions and interests entice me to pursue more to look around. "When everyone who loves me has died" this I can absolutely relate. "I am the one thing in life I can control. I am an original." These versus resonate depth for meaning. Rise Up!

You need not do anything, else. Just have a fabulous time and leave the theater with a big smile. I saw it twice already. Once during the previews and the second time, yesterday at opening night. I can go and see it many more times. It's one of those shows that because it's all singing one can go again and again and enjoy it the last time just as much as or more every time. Take a friend/s or go alone but don't miss it. Have fun!

We take a yearly trip to NYC, so he always signs up. This year, we scored and got tickets. We actually signed up for two days and got into both. Mon had the better guest lists (at least in our opinion) so we gave up the other tix. It's a process to get in, so nothing too surprising. The earlier you get there, the more of a chance you will sit closer. All in all, we were out by around 6:30pm. Tho they did add a game that was going to air on a another day with I believe the One Piece cast? A good experience if you are into talk shows. It's free, and we got a jar of carbone sauce due to mario carbone being a guest. What's there to complain about? REVIEW #4000

This was a fine experience. I'm not really a Fallon fan but the experience of watching a 'live to…read moretape' recording was pretty interested. We didn't have tickets, so we went to the gift shop at 30 rock through the 6th ave entrance to score some stand-by tickets. We arrived what I would call late, at about 11am. If you want to get these stand-by tickets I'd recommend arriving as close to 8am as you can, because every ticket is numbered and they can only fit so many people into the studio (they will always try to fill it). If I recall correctly the tickets said to come back to 30 rock at 3:15 but note - if you arrive a bit later, say 3:30, it won't effect your chances of getting in - the most you can do to increase your chances to see a show that day by walking in is to get there at 8am when they first start giving out the numbered stand-by tickets. Also, while they say you cant bring in bags, I had a smaller sized north face backpack and my friend had a large plastic bag and a small purse. If your number gets you in to see the show that day, you will pass through security like at an airport. Everything is extremely orderly and organized, the only stressful part is 'am I going to get in to see the show or did I just spend an hour and a half of my day for nothing.' My friend and I just got in under the wire, with the guy behind us being the very last person to stand-by for this day's show (there were about 56 stand-by visitors accepted that day). You will have an opportunity to use a bathroom before you sit for the filming, so don't be concerned about that. If you're a fan of TV or of Fallon you might prepare a question or two to ask him, he took a number of questions from the audience. The funniest one was 'are you going to use that entire bit you just did' because Jimmy and Drew Brees spitting pumpkin seeds went on far, far, FAR too long, about 3? minutes, which was about 2:45 longer than it needed to be. Jimmy was quick with the 'no, that's going to be edited down.'

Come From Away is one of the best shows I've seen on Broadway…read more The show is amazing! 90 minutes of pure entertainment. It's a musical about the 911 flights that had to land in Newfoundland. It hits all the emotions in a short time. I found myself laughing, falling in love with the characters and even felt a tear here and there. There's no intermission, so before you know it the shows over. I paid full price through American Express but when my husband came to join me a week later, we were able to get tickets at the TKS booth in Times Square for $75 a piece ( which was more than half off what I paid the first time!) and for both shows I was able to sit center orchestra 6 rows back. Totally enjoyable both times. The music was great and the actors were even better. I highly recommend this show. If you're in NYC between 1/18 - 2/13/22 check out NYC Broadway Week -they're offering 2 for 1 tickets on some great shows and this is one of them.

About 38 planes and a total of 6,000 passengers from all over the world landed in a small airport called Gander, Newfoundland in Canada. Gander is this tiny town in Canada so the locals there had to quickly figure out how to accommodate all these people. Come From Away tells such a warm - hearted and inspiring story about how the folks in Gander welcomed these travelers into their homes for about 4 days. It's such an emotional yet powerful play about humans helping humans from all over the world . Our lives gets interrupted, but at some point we must continue living no matter how tough things get. Highly recommend going to see this show when in NYC if you are a history kinda person. Had a great time blogging on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 7PM EST. I'd sat in Row J - Seat 116. FYI, no matter where you sit in the theater you'll have an incredible view of the stage. This play was about 100 minutes with no intermission.
