Scissorhands is my family's favorite with my two younger brothers regularly getting haircuts here. Andy is not as friendly as Miss Kim in Morrisville, but we recently had a nice conversation about the Korean language since I just started studying it. The cut was masterful, for sure, and followed the example I showed in a photo saved in my phone. Shampoo was included at no additional cost and I did not have to wait in my latest visit around Friday noon. I used to pay around $30 to $35 for a regular men's cut but the latest service, Andy charged me $40 (not including tips). As for the atmosphere, it's more spacious than their old location (where they shared space with other salons) but it's not as spacious as Hair News. Nonetheless, it's in a good location by High House Road, close to Cici's Pizza, a small Walmart market, and just less than 5 minutes drive away from HMart.

Came in 10 mins before my appointment and got seated right away. The lady who cut my hair was so sweet and precise, and she asked me a bunch of questions about what I wanted. I let her have a lot of freedom, and it looked great in the end! It was a longer appointment than I expected, but she was very detailed. It ended up being $70 which is pretty expensive in my opinion for just a woman's haircut. If you don't mind paying a hefty price, you should come here.

I was semi happy with the results at the moment but also disappointed that it was only 2 peices and ended up in 2 huge sections with the dark in the middle. Think craolla devil look or a skunk with blonde stripes. Total $170 with not tip, after tip was about $205. That was no full blow dry, no style, no cut...nothing but the highlights and semi dry. Tip is not accepted on card only cash or venmo type apps. Anyhow, I leave, go home and a few days later my hair is very yellow and not blended at all. It looked terrible.. like I said yellow skunk. So a few more days go by and I am doing laundry. I notice the jumper I was wearing has a huge stain on it where all of my back felt wet. I thought, maybe this will wash out...it did not! It was dyed and I have bleach marks all over my outfit. I ended up having to go somewhere else and spend another couple hundred to get my hair fixed ( I showed the same inspo pic) and I have an outfit ruined by the hairdye. The whole interaction felt unprofessional and honestly rude. There was at least one time when she dropped the ball on a last minute appointment I made with her last summer. I didn't press when I saw she couldn't fit me. Recently June, she was a life saver by taking me as a walk in when a flaky braider canceled my appointment the morning of. I was so appreciative of her fitting me in as a walk in. I was in a panic mode, as you may know having a hair stylist flake on you is so disappointing and it's an inconvenience. Felicia completed what was suppose to be medium Senegalese but they turned out more small and I love them. They've lasted so long. I look forward to returning.

Finding a new hairstylist is just as difficult as finding a new doctor. Whenever I move to a new area I try to ask for referrals from people who have similar hair to mine. I was referred to Alfa Jae Salon by someone who also has curly hair, however, after my visit I learned the person who referred me only gets their hair colored and gets it cut somewhere else. Here's what I liked about the salon: Everyone there was wonderful, they had a very cool eclectic vibe and lots of women were getting unique hair coloring done. I've always worn my hair straight but I'm ready to embrace my natural curl so I made the appointment requesting a cut and styling tips on how to manage my curls. The stylist was very sweet, she gave me a quick tutorial on how to add product and trying techniques, however the cut was average. The owner overheard our conversation because I was asking a lot of questions about layering and needing more shape and she immediately stepped in with some advice for the stylist. I didn't love my hair when I left but I also did hate it. I later learned the stylist I selected was still in training so that made a lot of sense on some of the apprehension she demonstrated and she said if it didn't work out I could come back. Now that I've learned more about styling curly hair I think if I would have scrunched out the crunch and did a little shaking it would have met my expectations. I'll be honest, I am very picky about my hair and own being a difficult client. This salon is great but I needed a more seasoned stylist, had I known she was a junior stylist I would have likely not made the appointment.

When you arrive you fill out paperwork with a few questions and they take your temperature. Do not forget your mask because they are required. The salon is split into two zones and the stylists have assigned teams that they work certain days with so if there is a COVID incident the chance of spread is minimal. They are still not serving drinks but blow drys are back! Alysha is the best stylist. I've been going to her for my cuts and colors since she was a blossom. You really can't go wrong with any of the stylists here though. They do a mentor program for new stylists, receive training to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques, they love where they work and are passionate about what they do. I highly recommend Blo. I also wanted to comment about what they did during the shutdown. They gave away free hair color to existing clients, there was a suggested donation of $20 (or more) and the proceeds went to No Kid Hungry NC. How amazing is that? One last thing, bring cash for the tip. They have an ATM if you forget (or you can just do venmo).
