Being Asian I have always had a bad haircut whenever someone who doesn't know Asian hair cut my hair, so I always waited until I visited family in New York to get my hair cut in Chinatown. Well I couldn't visit New York this past year and decided to go to Hitto, which is in a new location. I asked for an Asian hairstylist and got Bob. I showed him a few photos of the length I wanted and he went straight to work, washing then cutting my hair quickly. The cut turned out great! Loved the face framing layers and volume he gave me. He recommended curtain bangs and I am glad I trusted his judgment! Will definitely go back to Bob for my next cut! read more

Found Hitto Salon by searching for a "Japanese barber" on Yelp, and I was expecting that a professional barber would be able to do the haircut I wanted but I ended up leaving in disappointment. Had a 5PM appointment after calling earlier that day. There were 2 male barbers and 1 female one. The female 1, named Gina, was the one who did my haircut. None of them really made Hitto Salon welcoming; I felt like I was just another customer. My hair got a nice shampoo treatment but after that, Gina did not really take the time to understand the kind of haircut I wanted even after showing her a photo - a simple cut with a thicker top and more faded sides. Throughout the entire haircut, she barely said a word; the most silent treatment I got in a salon. She shaved the sides but the cut lacked the shape and care I got from other nearby salons. My wife said that the back part of my cut looks uneven, rushed. She used mostly the razor for shaving without the crafting of the scissors to shape my hair to its ideal form. She did not even use a mirror to show me the mess she made on the back of my head. It's worth noting that this was the 2nd time I got a haircut from Gina, the first being in another salon named Scissorhands. I didn't realize this until my wife later told me about it, and I initially thought she was someone who resembled her. If I knew this from the start, I would probably would have refused to get another haircut from her given how unprofessional she performed on my first haircut with her. At the end of the haircut, she styled my hair a bit with some kind of styling cream and hairspray but no amount of styling could hide the mess of a haircut she made. read more

I had a great experience with the salon! I was able to make the reservation via email, the person I worked with was kind and accommodating. I have been bouncing between salons for a while and I feel like I finally found a good one! They helped me fulfill my vision for what I wanted for my hair, was nice to work with, and was very respectful. Bob was my stylist and helped me figure out what I wanted and made. I'm giving this 3 stars because the actual haircut was good, but the hygiene standards are a major concern for me. While I was happy with the style, I unfortunately contracted ringworm after my visit. It got bad enough that I had to go to Urgent Care right before Christmas, and I am still in the process of treating it. It has been a difficult recovery that has really impacted my personal life--my wife won't even let me touch her until it's fully gone. Because of this hygiene issue, I won't be returning and will need to find a new salon once I recover. read more

AWESOME! Alex and his team did an incredible JOB! Everyone at the Salon was very welcoming! From the moment I emailed the salon we got an appointment right away and then after requesting an earlier appointment Alex immediately changed it to the requested time. My youngest daughter had a trim and style and loved it! Ms. Sarah was so kind and listened to exactly what was asked for once shown a reference picture. My oldest son went for just a trim as well but ended up getting the Japanese straightening treatment and the results were night and day!!!! My son has incredibly course, curly, frizzy hair and has tried EVERY straightener, Brazilian blow out, treatments, etc and NOTHING had worked until NOW. The team was professional and super proficient. When we decided to do the treatment I only assumed it would taken all afternoon but with two guys blow drying and then 2 people straightening, and quickly trimming we were in and out. I took my 14 to niece to get the Japanese hair straightening treatment. The whole team at Hitto was very friendly and professional. The salon was quite busy for a Wednesday afternoon so I would recommend making an appointment. The whole process took about 3 hours, and she was very pleased with the results. I came into Hitto, seeing that the reviews on yelp were very good. I scheduled an appointment to get my hair dyed to an ash blonde. Once, I walked into the hair salon, the person at the front was quite rude, and questioned about what happened to my eye. They said that it would take about 2-3 hours, but it ended up taking 5 hours for the whole process to complete. Additionally, the way they dyed my hair is EXTREMELY uneven as shown in the photo. I would not recommend going back here. read more

It's been 5 years and on a whim, I decided to try again because I pretty much was looking for the speedy, Asian cut with it's modern jagged edges cuz well, I'm old, with a kid, and I just need to look sophisticated enough but not going for the 'pretty girl' cut anymore. (The younger girls here would've looked great no matter what cut lol so there's that bucket, too.) No need for small talk - just get 'er done. So this was perfect for me. I cut my hair recently. I'm really disappointed. Hairdresser Daniel is not fashionable for women's hairstyles. He cut a very old-fashioned hairstyle, which looks like it was 15 years ago, which forced me to go home and cut my hair short. I'm very sad and worried. I don't think he has the latest technology. I remember that before the haircut, I showed the photos I wanted, hoping that he could give me some advice, but he didn't come to a conclusion, just a sloppy answer. I'm really sad. It's been about 9 months since I got my haircut here for my brother's wedding and I was recently sent a picture taken that same day. The memory of it is honestly embarrassing enough that I felt motivated to make this post nearly a year later. I asked for a 2-block cut and the barber said he knew what I meant without really paying attention to the pictures I shared as a reference. This is what I got. I had to book another appointment with another salon the very next morning before the ceremony just for them to salvage what had been done by Hitto Salon. The staff was friendly enough but the complete lack of attention and care I received from the barber--especially considering the price--makes it extremely hard for me to recommend this place to anybody. Before you skip this 1-star review thinking it is irrational and emotionally driven, I want to make it clear that my appointment with Hitto Salon was at the end of December 2017. I have had time to clearly and objectively consider my experience and absolutely do not recommend anyone coming here for hair coloring. As a 24 year old Asian female, this was my first time coloring my hair. I decided to find an Asian salon thinking that they would know best how to handle my hair. I saw great reviews for this particular Asian salon and just went straight in asking for an ash blonde balayage. I admit, it was my mistake for not doing enough research, but I did not feel like I needed to given the positive reviews on this page. The first red flag was when Alex and his apprentice bleached my entire head. I felt uneasy, but also assumed that a certified cosmetologist would know more than me in terms of the balayage technique. To this day, Alex blames me for choosing the wrong color and insists that this is the root of my dissatisfaction with the service. Yes, I was very upset when "ash blonde" became "blue" (as you can seen in the pictures), but the real issue here is the fact that Alex has no idea how to properly do balayage. He attempted to put in a gradient effect by dying 1 inch of my roots back to black, but again, that is not what the balayage technique entails. The salon that I went to the next day to fix the damage done at Hitto salon confirmed my suspicions that an ash blonde balayage to my hair should have NEVER involved a full head of bleach. As further testament to the amateur quality of this salon, during the bleaching, I received first degree burns to the back of neck. Alex and his apprentice had left the bleached sections of my head too close together and they were causing a reaction that I could see as smoke coming out of my hair. I have attached pictures of the burns to my neck for anyone who needs more proof. Again, I must reiterate that all botched colors aside, the service that was provided to me was NOT balayage. If I wanted to dye my entire hair the same color, I would have done it myself. I came to a salon because I wanted the natural gradient effect of balayage. I tried to explain this to Alex and he acted like he did not want to touch my hair anymore because it "would not take anymore color." He continued to believe that I just wanted a change in the color of my hair (which is partially true because I wasn't expecting blue hair at my visit), but what I really wanted was BALAYAGE. Finally, he saw that I was noticeably upset and made a last-ditch effort to get me out of the salon by darkening my hair, which essentially turned all my hair gray. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of my hair previous to the darkening process, but believe me, it was blue. The total for my session was $320. This cost involved a balayage and hair cut. Alex said he was giving me a "discount" because I seemed unsatisfied. The full price, according to him, should have been $400+ because of all the product I had used (ahem, the bleach). By this time, I was the last customer in the store and did not feel comfortable refusing to pay, so I paid them. I even tipped them because I felt uneasy not doing so. I regret paying and have been in a credit card battle with Hitto salon ever since. To all my Asian women out there who think an Asian man will know best how to work with Asian hair, please look elsewhere. This is not the place for you. read more

Hitto Salon-Cary did an excellent job Japanese Conditioning straightening her hair and cleaning/trimming up where the Dunn novice had taken thinning shears too close to the root of her frizzy hair and made the poof worse. I am not one to leave a reviews yet I find myself writing this review for Hitto Salon after a very unpleasant encounter with them. Everyone should really read these one star reviews before getting serviced. My brother came in for a perm in which jazz completely fucked up yet he still charged my brother $120 for the service. I left a bad review (included below) the night he got his hair done and I have since visited the salon and Jazz refunded me the money he charged for the botched job. Throughout the entire encounter with Jazz I did not receive a single apology in any way, shape, or form. I actually got excuses such as how he was really busy so he rushed the job, or how his hair is wavy (that's not that he asked for) and then he even sat there telling me about how he does not care about money. After I left the salon, the owner, Alex Started harassing me through out the day with emails, calls, texted, and even tried to contact me through Venmo to have me remove the review I left. It seems like they do this often to one star reviews, which is probably why they have such a high rating. I find it completely inappropriate for Alex to call me multiple times today, even after I declined the call to have me remove the review so I thought I would post it here as well. The review from google: I would give this place zero starts if I could. My brother had an appointment today (1/2/23) at 2:00pm, we came a few minutes early and jazz still didn't get to my brother until 2:30pm, which was fine. My brother showed him a picture of what he wanted and jazz said the hair in the picture was too short and that he should cut it a bit longer than the picture which we agreed to. Jazz started cutting his hair which seemed fine at first. And then he finished the perm and the hair is STRAIGHT. mind you my brother got a curl perm in which I called ahead that morning asking if it was possible for them to do a curl perm on men's hair at about 3-4 inches and was assured it could be done, which is why we made the appointment with jazz in the first place. He was charged $120 for his cut and perm even though his hair was completely botched, jazz thinned out his hair so much to the point of him having a slight bald spot in the front and he left a mountain of hair uncut in the back and jazz cur his sides too high. Not only that but his hair looks nothing like the picture that was shown at the beginning of the appointment. I'm not exactly sure why he was charged $120 when he left with straight hair that wasn't even to his liking and jazz even had the audacity to ask for a tip. Having moved from Japan, I was very skeptical of finding a place to get a good Japanese Straight Perm but Hitto's Hair Salon did an amazing job! I was very worried that I would not be pleased with my hair after driving 125 miles just to get to the salon. Alex told me that it would take around 2 hours to do my hair which worries me because in Japan it would take anywhere from 6-8 hours to do. It took them a total 2 1/2 - 3 hours finish my hair because I had a keratin treatment done after my straight perm - and it was busy. Alex's 20+ years of experience really shows! I am half black and half Asian so many salons in my area wanted to use a relaxer for my hair but after many bad experiences I refuse to get a relaxer. I am so pleased to have a salon and hair stylist I can go to and trust with my hair. My hair came out better than it did in Japan and even cost less, I will definitely come back! read more

I had my hair cut more than a year ago with the owner. He takes 0 pride in his job. I regretted immediately after he started, but it was too late. I have never seen anyone cutting hair in such a reckless way. He didn't know what he was doing. He couldn't stop talking for one second, and he didn't care whether you are interested in his topic. It surprised me how rude he was when he was trying to talk a female customer sitting behind me. That lady totally ignored him, good for her! My daughter was a preschooler, and she was with a different hairdresser. That lady was nice and gentle, but she failed to give a evenly ends when I simply asked her to trim them evenly. One was perfect and the second went way wrong and kind of fried my hair but think I was also having issues previously with Covid and highlights in. The salon went above and beyond trying to fix as much as they could and gave me a partial refund. They definitely went above and beyond. Very rude owner (Alex) Please read Negative reviews first, You will thank yourself later. Recently we had the worst hair care experience in this Salon. We drove almost an hour for the appointment just to wait about 40 minutes before the stylist could start the cut. We requested him not to cut too much hair, yet he took so much hair off that my wife was in tears after since it took 2 years to grow that hair length. We wanted to get a certain color on her hair, but as soon as I went to the restroom, Alex and Jazz(stylist) convinced my wife to get a color that's so close to her natural hair color, that it was almost invisible. Our 5pm appointment was delayed to almost 5:40pm, since they close at 6:30pm, they were rushing the job to the point that he took out too much hair so he can use less dye and less time to dry at my wife's cost. Total Fees: Color 150 + Cut 30 + 10 (Tip)= $190 Dishonest business practice: In their website, they say From $40 for color, when asked about it, he (Jazz) said it apparently starts from $120 and depends on the length of the hair. Invisible Fine Line ! My mistake, I should have asked the price first. No wonder why they have no pricing info. inside the Salon. Extremely disappointed with the job, I called them back in a few days later. The stylist set us up for another appointment thinking they would make it right this time. Upon arrival, first thing the stylist (Jazz) says "What's wrong with your color" in attacking tone. I started explaining it all over again and the owner, Alex, got involved at this point and started arguing and raising his voice with words like "Listen listen listen" and came too close to my face. Instead of fixing the color they wanted to highlight her hair this time and charge me AGAIN. This felt outrageous. You would think an owner would be apologetic in this time of Covid-19 and make things right by retaining a customer. Instead he became incredibly rude and started showing us the door. So, we ended up calling the cops who tried to resolve it by refunding the amount, but he refused to do so. Luckily we have friends and family in the force who suggested to take a few actions including reporting it to BBB, AG, police, Yelp etc. Some are too severe. Bottom line, it will be difficult to forget this terrible treatment from this owner and its service we received. Don't expect them to correct their fault if you are not satisfied. Chic place! I moved here 7 years ago and have tried various popular stylists and salons in the Triangle area, but no one is able to cut layers and framing like Alex. If you want a regular cut with lots of layers, Alex is your guy. He also does a great job with long bob, perfect length and lots of dimensions. Being an asian male with long hair, I expected an asian hair salon with supposedly 4+ stars to know how to handle a male haircut correctly. I like to keep my hair long and grow out my fade to a pompadour. I requested to just trim the sides and leave the top alone. Given clear English directions with picture example and closed loop communication to acknowledge confirmation of understanding, it is bewildering that given such clear direction, the incompetence demonstrated by this salon could not go unignored. The very first thing they did, when I EXPLICITLY told them to NOT cut the top of my hair was exactly that: they started trimming the top. If I wanted a botched trim job, I would've gone to great clips. At least they give me a lollipop before they deliver a botched job. read more

I have never found any good hair stylist that can do a short haircut for women this well but he got it done exactly the way I wanted it to be without needing to explain much. I had my hair permed once and dyed once at Hitto Salon. The hair stylist who dyed my hair about a year ago was good, but the perming a few years ago was not very well done. The most recent experience for an appointment was not pleasant at all. You would think that a hair salon with a Japanese name and Japanese hair straightening also has Japanese service, but not at all. I have lived in Japan for two years, speak Japanese, and know what it is like to have a hair cut or perm in Japan. This does not even come close to a Japanese salon. read more
