Sarma
Lena M.

Two of my best friends are Eastern European. One is Romanian and the other is Serbian. Through the years I've had some really delicious food from parties and get togethers with their families. Bosna Restaurant has always been in my "RestaurWANT to Try" collection. I'm grateful I finally got the chance to try them. They're located in a strip mall so there is a lot of free parking available. When we went it was a two man show so the service and food took a little bit. I ordered my favorite dishes I've had at my friend's place. First of all, it was so much food I had to take it home. Second, I should've ordered something different because I think I was longing for specific recipes. They were still pretty good. I wish the sarma wasn't as salty though. The cevapi came with warm bread and the sauce was perfection (like ones I've had in the past). This was a 3.5 star experience for me. My boyfriend got a coffee and philly cheesesteak. He liked trying both. I loved that everything felt fresh. This is a lovely comfort food space.

In the same way walking into the bright dining room is a shocking contrast to Bosna's dark exterior, the hearty deliciousness of Bosnia's food stands out against the minimalist decor. The grilled meat cevapi is perfectly seasoned and the crisp, fresh onion adds a contrasting crunch. The rich, meaty, savory goulash pairs nicely with the simple mashed potatoes. The sweet honey and tart lemon add tongue-teasing interest to the shortbread cookie. A meal at Bosnia is not complete without Bosnian coffee. If your ideal coffee is a light-roast, vanilla iced latte, this is not the coffee for you. Bosnian coffee is strong, bold, unfiltered and served (in a beautiful set) with only sugar. Cevapi $8 Grilled dish of minced beef in finger-sized sausages served in lepinja bread with onion, ajar and sour cream Goulash-Halal $15 Beef Stew served with mashed potatoes and Lepinja bread Hurmasica $3.50 Sweet Bosnian Shortbread cookie covered in sweet honey and lemon syrup Bosnian Coffee $3

The food was great! I was very impressed with my coffee and dessert (Harmasica)! The Cevapi was delicious, the taste of the bread was awesome. The facility was clean and staff was prompt. I would recommend you check this gem out! I was reminded of my trip to Croatia, very authentic food! 10/10

Awesome place that has a lot of food from the Balkans. The owner is a swell guy and it's a place I will definitely come back to.

This place if 5 stars over amazing! Great service, delicious food, and awesome place overall. This is a family favorite, we have come here 3 times as a family and plan to come back often. If you are anywhere need this place, make a plan to come here and eat. Spend some time and enjoy it. It takes a little time but the wait is worth it. Food enough for the family and more. Come in and eat here, you will not be dissatisfied, guarantee.

House combination with cevapi and sausage

Great atmosphere and excellent service. Awesome food. Got the house combo with cevapi and sausage. The bread was warm and wonderful. I will be back to try more.

Ask the Community - Bosna Restaurant

Amazing place. Will certainly support this business more. No one should suffer the indignity of going hungry. Is it possible to buy a meal for those in need to lessen the burden?

I love that place, the people are genuine and it's a lovely place to just relax... I usually just add a big tip for them...…

I would like to say that I've lived down the road from this place for 7 years and I have slept on…read morethis place hard and if you're reading this, you probably have too. I asked the owners how long they've been here (assuming it was only a few years). This unassuming store has been here for 25 years. I went here on a whim and let me tell you, I will be a frequent customer. This is a hidden gem of a grocery store. Some of the things that caught my eye were: * Imported European butter (high quality butter). * Tons of imported, cured meats * Perogies, meat dumplings, mashed potato dumplings, etc. * A fantastic selection of tasty mustards * Pickled & fermented items such as sauerkraut, pickled vegetables, pepper spreads * A wide variety of tasty jams * Fresh farmer cheeses * Imported Cheeses * Homemade desserts * Homemade, old world, artisan bread * Much more Another person left a comment exclaiming that items here are pricey. I want to share my thoughts and why I think it's 5 stars and not pricey. So, first, I love the salami here. I bought a few kind of Salami but the German Salami is very nice. Now that being said, as of today it's like $20/lb. But, few important things to note. 1) it's Imported from Europe. 2) The richness & complexity of flavor is so much better than your $7.99/lb grocery store chain salami. The flavors are complex and wonderful. It's truly something where you keep wanting more. This is ideal for a charcuterie board or something where you want people to really notice the bold flavors. It is worth the price. Secondly, their homemade desserts are out of this world. I guarantee you that you have had few desserts that are this good. They are unlike the processed junk we get even at nice grocery store bakeries. One bite and you're in heaven. So much so we went back immediately the next day to get more. Third, they are making their own variety of bread loaves. I wish I had gotten a picture but they are as beautiful as they are delicious. This isn't old world bread. Artisan bread. You aren't getting this elsewhere. Overall, the quality of everything is just very good. It's a taste of eastern Europe. It's a treat and a delight. You should do in and try it. You won't be disappointed. Sure, many of the products may be unfamiliar or even written in a language you might not understand. But the staff is friendly and we're glad to answer my questions. As I am sure they will be glad to answer yours. And, honestly, go in and ask them what they recommend. Try thier favorite foods and favorite desserts. I tried their black currant dressert (black currants are not widely available in the US but are delightful) and I never would have if I didn't ask for a recommendation. At minimum, go in and get 1/4lb of cured meats, some dessert, some bread, and why not some mashed potato dumplings (perogies)... You won't be disappointed.

I returned. We spoke briefly over the counter. I told the nice man who remembered me, my name and my order. He said 'my fault." I waited in line following 5 patrons to place the order again. I then waited another 50 minutes for the second order. You decide.

I normally love coming here, which is exactly why I am so angry and disappointed writing this…read morereview. I had been telling my Dad for a while about how fun this place is, how nice everyone usually is, and how much I thought he would enjoy it. We were finally able to come together today, and he was genuinely excited to see the inside and have breakfast here for the first time. As expected, we were told the wait would be about 45-50 minutes. Fine. The place was busy, as it usually is, and we had absolutely no problem waiting. I spent years working as a server and hostess. I understand busy restaurants, long waits, and tables that don't turn as quickly as expected. After waiting about 40 minutes, I went to the host stand to simply ask for an update. We had watched people leave and groups continue to be seated during our wait, so I wanted to see where we stood. The young man at the host stand told me it would be ANOTHER 40-50 minutes. I genuinely thought he had confused our name with someone else's, so I explained that we had already been waiting for 40 minutes. He told me our names were "at the bottom of the list" and that people inside were moving very slowly. No apology. No double-checking the list. No attempt to figure out how a quoted 45-50 minute wait had suddenly turned into an hour and a half. He didn't ask if we were willing to sit inside, offer another seating option, or even suggest placing a to-go order. Nothing. He was completely dismissive. So I handed him the menu and my Dad and I left. Then, just 20 MINUTES later--not the additional 40-50 minutes we had literally just been told--I received a call saying our table was ready. I tried to explain that we were no longer there and WHY we had left. The second I said we had "left," I was HUNG UP ON. Honestly, that was it for me. Before that phone call, I was actually sitting in the car telling my Dad that maybe we could try again another day. Despite being embarrassed and disappointed after talking this place up to him so much, I was still willing to chalk it up to a bad interaction with one host. Getting hung up on completely sealed the deal. I'm not angry because the restaurant was busy. I'm angry because we were treated like we didn't matter. I'm angry because we waited patiently for 40 minutes, politely asked one question, and were dismissed with inaccurate information instead of someone taking 30 seconds to double-check. I'm angry because when I tried to explain what had happened, I wasn't even given the basic courtesy of finishing a sentence before someone hung up on me. My Dad and I have lived in Lakeside for over 30 years. We weren't asking to skip the line. We weren't demanding a table. We weren't rude to anyone. We were two local customers who were excited to have breakfast together at a place I had genuinely loved and recommended to other people. We will NEVER be back. And yes, we will absolutely be telling our friends, family, and neighbors about how we were treated and recommending that they go somewhere else unless they want to risk being dismissed, given completely inaccurate wait information, and hung up on when they try to explain why they left. Apparently this place is busy enough that treating people with basic courtesy no longer matters. That's fine. There are plenty of other restaurants that will happily take our money and, at the very least, treat my Dad and me like human beings. What was supposed to be a fun breakfast with my Dad turned into one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in a long time. I went from genuinely loving and recommending this place to never wanting to step foot inside again. Congratulations. You lost two longtime local customers in less than an hour.
