We stumbled into this place called Athens Tavern one day and cant stop coming. The food is AUTHENTIC GREEK CUISINE and it's fresh and bursting with flavor. But guess what, that's not even the best part... the service is AMAZING!!! Everyone who works here is so sweet, polite, kind and they make you feel like you're amongst family. If you haven't tried Athens Tavern, you need to go!!!

Part of this meal was exceptional and the other was forgettable. The appetizers were delicious especially the flat bread. I could eat it every day. The calamari was very tender, I've never had calamari that wasn't a little chewy. The cheese flambé I could also eat every day although it was just cheese that was set on fire but it was good. Dinner, not so good. The spanakopita tasted like frozen spinach in phyllo dough, it had zero flavor. It needed feta cheese or something, it was the worst I've ever had. My boyfriend had the lamb which he thought was really good. Our companions had the pasta and did not like it. They took it home to see if they could doctor it up some to make it taste better. I didn't like the baklava, believe it or not it had too much filling and the phyllo dough needed a steak knife to cut through the bottom.

We got take out and we, and the baby, LOVED IT! The waitresses were really really nice and we even met with the head cook/owner, (I think ) and She was so nice ! She's a first Gen Greek!

The moment I stepped through the doors I was whisked away across the sea to a place where the thick salt of the Aegean pierced my skin. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was eerily familiar... and then it struck me. I had been here before. Not in the physical space, but it's aura. The year was 2013, I had been partying day and night in Mykonos. After a particularly raucous evening at Cavo Paridiso, I found myself alone in the Temple of Poseidon watching the sun rise. There was a peaceful yet somewhat nerving silence. This silence is where Athens Tavern took me. Once I was seated I ordered the first drink that caught my eye, a Baklava Martini. Twist my arm why don't ya. As I awaited for my drink to arrive I received complementary bread which I indulged. As I gulped my sweet yet refreshing martini, I ordered the Spanikopita, yearning that first bite of spinach, feta Mx and phyllo. It did not disappoint, and I left as satisfied and yet unsettled as my early morning in Mykonos. Until next time - Hank.

Oooohhhhh my gosh. We had this on a whim, as it's over 40 minutes away from us one way for take away. It was worth the drive! The portions were huge! My husband couldn't finish his. I had the zucchini fritters, chicken kabob and potatoes with a side of tzatziki. The fritters were amazing. I acknowledge that some people would consider them to be burnt based on my photo but they did not taste that way at all. There was a creamy texture on the inside and the outside was crispy. The taste was amazing. The chicken was perfect, not over cooked and dry. The potatoes were lemony and perfect. I'm picky about my tzatziki and it was perfect. The pictures were done at home and not perfect but the food was amazing. We have been disappointed by other local take away joints. We found our place

Greek salad with yummy dips in the background!

Excellent as always. The Greek Gods have shown their grace here in rva. Mt Olympus couldn't make meatballs as good as these.

If they aren't part of the decor, it was a treat nonetheless. We stepped inside from the rain with a parking spot very near the door. I snapped a pic on the way in to capture it's essence. We risked another walk-in with no reservations, and we snagged two prime end seats on the communal table. There were two open seats at the bar as well; might come in handy some other rainy Thursday night. The server, Murphy M., judging by the receipt, who helped my partner and I with our order, was a gracious host and incredibly well-practiced. It was a master class in serving, made effortless by him. He could not have been more accommodating, as we saw him appear inevitably at the exact right moments. Our server offered us bread and oil before the appetizer. The bread here is made fresh daily. It was so soft, I could not tell the difference from store bought. The food was exquisitely well prepared, the chefs and kitchen staff are immensely skilled. The appetizer was presented to us within a relatively short amount of time. We had time for a short discussion before the it arrived. The Tiropita was described as "four pieces of heaven." Accurate. The phyllo was thin and crisp, and the feta was creamy and delicious. I was careful not to bite too hard and ruin my pants. I had the Kotopoulo, which is a feta-brined oven-baked chicken with lemon and herbs served with lemon potatoes. The dish was cooked to perfection. The cooked potatoes were exactly as I like them, soft yet held their shape. It was an excellent meal, if a bit unwieldy (it's like half a rotisserie chicken, basically). My partner had the Hilopites, an egg noodle dish with giant beans, pine nuts, kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, and feta, in a creamy, savory sauce that I couldn't begin to describe with mere words. The meals were both stunning, made unclear by my disastrous photography. All that being said, I did not really enjoy my meal as I was expecting. Maybe it's me, maybe it's today, or maybe the flavors simply weren't what I am accustomed to with the dozens of Greek restaurants from my past. I'm uncertain, and that's okay sometimes. Either way, it was a fantastic experience, and I will dine here again.

The Huguenot location used to be my spot, but since I moved, this one is now closer. I didn't mind the switch, I figured it'd be nice to try a different location. I've been here twice so far. The place itself is nice, parking can be a little tight but not a big deal. I also like that they have a rooftop area (haven't gone up there yet since it's always cold when I visit). Now, the reason for this review, I stopped by yesterday with a friend, and our total came to almost $40 for just two bowls and one bag of pita chips (no drinks!). We noticed the portions of rice, chicken, and other toppings were smaller than usual. When we asked for just a little bit more, the staff member said it would be extra charge, and he meant it! We ended up paying way more than what I typically spend at other CAVA locations ($25 for two people). I'm not trying to be cheap, but it doesn't feel fair to serve such small portions and then charge extra when customers ask for a little more. I still love CAVA and the food is good but I might be limiting the amount of time I go there.
