Got suckered in for the 2 sets for $9 on Oahu. Shoulda known! It's a catch. The snorkel Equipment you WANT to rent is actually $30/week!!! Scammers. Even when I called and asked them about it they were like "oh yeah that's one of our deals" - they didn't say that it's pieces of junk and after wasting an hour waiting and then fitting you just wanna get out and get to the beach so you pay WHATEVER! Don't think you are gonna rent for $9. If you want to get equipment, fine. But don't do like we did and waste two hours to specifically go to this place. Go wherever. It all ends up about the same price anyway. 1 star because I HATE gimmicks. Just be upfront with me in your Advertising. It worked for you with me but hopefully some other suckers will read Yelp! before going in and wasting time and money thinking they're getting one thing when really it's a bait and switch! read more

Jake was incredibly helpful. He set us up with good gear, gave us recommendations where to go, and convinced us to not go to a beach everyone else said was the best to snorkel at. (Surprise, when we visited that beach on the second day, it was incredibly underwhelming compared to his other recommendations.) Did I mention it was only $9/day for the deluxe snorkels? Got suckered enough to go in with their ad for rent 1 snorkel set get 1 free, if you rent for a week ($10.) Once we were there we found out that the ad applied for the old school mono-goggle (is this a word?) and a simple tube w/mouthpiece. Straight from the sixties... Instead, we upgraded to the normal looking goggles and the top of the line breathing tube. The tube was as advertised, emptying the saltwater so we never had to "blow" it out. Was absolutely worth it. Final price was aprox. $30/wk for the set (including fins, mesh carry bag, goggles, breathing tube) Service was informed and not pushy, like a lot of sale/rental places. I think the guy's name was Carl, but he just informed us of what was what, and let us make our decision. Nice guy, easy return (to any boss frog's). They also have a night drop box, but we just returned it in-store. read more

Got 2 sets of snorkel gear($65) and one umbrella($15) for a weekly rental. A mix of good and bad but all considered I would probably use these guys again: - Had a comfortable prescription lens mask that I needed. Bad part was that the strap attachment is flimsy and broke on my first day of use. When I returned I was told that I could be held responsible for $100 breakage/replacement but was given a new mask for replacement (no fee) and instructed how to use it without stressing the flimsy part. This was the best quality mask and snorkel I have ever rented. -Umbrella had a broken tilt fitting which I discovered on my first attempt at shade. Brought it back and was given a replacement - which I found out while later standing on hot sand that it did not have the lower pole that sticks in the ground, so no shade from that puppy. They should be checking this before handing out to paying customers, but at least they refunded my $15 on return. - prices for local adventures (zipline) are marked up a hefty chunk, so buy direct. If you agree to suffer thru a timeshare blahzathon they can provide some nice discounts. Aloooooooooooha! and enjoy your stay in beautiful Hawaii ;-) read more

My wife and I went on a snorkel excursion while we were honeymooning in hawaii. We loved it so much we wanted to try it on our own when we were on Kauai. We went to Boss Frogs location on lowai beach. We rented our snorkel gear from Greg. Greg took the time to explain how to use the snorkel gear and how to stop it from getting filled with water so we could maximize our snorkel time. He also informed us of where the best place to snorkel to find various types of fish and sea turtles. We were impressed as his recommendation was exactly where we found everything we wanted to see. Best idea ever! If you have a few days to spare and want to explore the island without having to pay an arm and a leg, renting snorkeling gears from Boss Frog is the way to go. Staff is very friendly - we had a big group and were helped by a Polynesian or Filipino looking guy with long hair. He was very patient when fitting us with the gears and didn't appear annoyed when he had to check us out individually. Awesomeness is all i have to say. read more

I went to the Boss Frog on Lawai Rd and got the same super rude lady that another reviewer got. I paid in advance for a Kayak Trip and was supposed to go to a Boss Frog location to get my tickets. She said that the internet was down and that she couldn't print the tickets. I asked her how to get to the river, which, later I found only involved taking a few roads and she said just take roads that lead to a particular town. Huh? I asked her which roads and she said to call the main # or get a map. (She knew exactly how to get there.) I told her that the main # told me that she would tell me how to get there and that my gps wasn't working. She pointed to a map, which is basically a 1 page folded map of Kauai, and told me that it's $15. The map clearly is not that price, and in fact, I am certain that it was one of the free maps you can get at the airport. I told her to forget it, I'm not taking the tour, and she started asking what's the problem, and going on and on.... I left. I am certain that she lied about the internet being down and the cost of the map. There was a couple in the office before me and I heard her also being rude to that couple. read more

They were AWESOME! We went in for the snorkel coupon rental, however we upgraded to the comfortable fit and fins. ONLY 31.25 for the entire week. I definitely got my money's worth. The also rent underwater camera's, boogie boards and other items. My friend bout a pair of reef sandals super cheap. They have some other items for sale too. The young local gal that helped us was so sweet, patient and nice. She was not pushy AT ALL. She even let my friend's 3 year old daughter use the toilet. They have great package deals (rent it for the week! so much to see!), Kristen is super knowledgable and helpful in getting you what you need, and they have very flexible drop-off options. I ran into the Koloa Boss Frog's one day last month looking for anti-fog solution for my snorkel mask, and the guy behind the counter gave my a little bottle for free! He said they don't sell it, but they include a little bottle whenever they rent out snorkel gear. Later found out that anti-fog solution is just 1 part baby shampoo mixed with 1 part water :) I've heard that the Boss Frog's on the north shore tries to upsell their customers into renting more sophisticated equipment than they want or need, so this was a definite contrast. read more

We were lucky enough on our last trip to Kauai to stay across the street from Lawai Beach, near Poipu, which is one of the top spots on Kauai to snorkel. We saw lots of fish and turtles too . Then we were even luckier to have Boss Frogs rental office right next to the beach adjacent to the Beach House Restaurant . Boss Frogs has everything you need, besides snorkel gear, they have surfboards, boogie boards, underwater cameras but best of all they have a super friendly employee named Greg who gave us lots of tips...He also helped us plan and book our sunset sail for a great price!! They offer great rates for daily or weekly rentals and you can drop stuff off at any of their locations around the island if its more convenient.. Great service + prices! read more
