Boston Harbor Marina is always a lovely, brief stop for a bit of PNW South Sound action with a bit of New England ambiance. They rent kayaks, sell boating supplies, and sell food and booze, both for drop-ins and locals/vacationers. The fish and chips from the snack bar - which I was very excited to try - tasted more like old fryer oil than fish, so that was a bummer, but the tartar was good and the staff is friendly. It's worth checking out the Puget Sound Estuarium's website if you're interested in the area wildlife, as our kids have participated in some of their activities at BHM. read more

I had the shrimp basket & everything fried to perfection, cocktail sauce complimented the deep fried butterfly shrimp & tartar sauce very tasty with the fries. Asked about the fish & chips and it sounded like their food was all frozen, not home made fresh batter dipped seafood, so not a knock your socks off meal but still very tasty, so if you are in the area & hungry, this is a nice place to dine, with a beautiful view of the harbor & boats right on the beach. Also had a perfect triple shot mocha Espresso with a shot of vanilla syrup, very nice & robust, based on the hot sleeve is Dancing Goats coffee which is one of the best local roasted coffee in Oly as its also associated with Batdorf & Bronson. the staff working there was very friendly & nice, and responded fast when I dinged the bell to get their attention, so over all I had a really nice relaxing dining experience outside overlooking the bay on a very nice day. All in all, not sure how open & welcoming the area is, parking was for customers only, marina sandwiched between the private local waterfront homes, so not sure how open it is to the public although from the marina you could go down on the beach. Not too far away is a very nice park though with hiking trails & short walk to the water, so might be a good place to eat before or after exploring the county park. read more

If I could give this business -10. It would be too nice. Yeah, andrew.The owner has been extremely disrespectful and taking advantage of me. The motor had to be shipped to alaska, so that was an additional $1000. The advertisement states that it is a good running motor i've had nothing but problems with the motor since day one even just trying to get it out of the container.It was packaged in. Promised that there would be the attachment on top. So I could hoist the motor wrong. Nothing attached, he said he would send me an attachment. He never did. The motor won't hardly turn. It's all rusted and corroded up in there. It is very dangerous to drive the spot. Due to the living on the ocean in the fact that it takes all my strength to try to turn it. So I can't turn it on a dime. It turns more like on three miles. Also, when you go to start it, you have to jump it to get it started. Because it drags down your battery so bad he tried to say it was an issue with the cables, but it's not. It's an issue with the motor I've had it to a mechanic, so I have several $1000 tied up with the mechanic, not to mention the gas, it costs me $50. One way to go to town. He has refused any type of solving the problem.He admitted that the steering was an issue, but he said, if I continue to come at him, he would.I would not like how he would handle things.So basically he threatened me and stopped responding to any of my emails.Text or messages. This is not a way a business should be doing. And holding their business accountable, he has refused to hold himself accountable in his business.Please, please, please, please, please do not do not, do not, do not, do not do business with this individual.He will not hold himself accountable and will not make things right?I need a new motor he needs to send me in applicable, motor plus he needs to pay for the shipping.And then if he wants this motor back, he can pay for to have it ship back. Thought we would try lunch at their Snack Shack. First time visitors. Lovely setting on a beautiful day. Ordered a cheeseburger and a breakfast sandwich. As much as we wanted to like the place both were very dry and unremarkable. The sodas from the lower level store were welcome, however I (6'4") hit my head so hard it knocked me down leaving the store with our sodas. No concern from the employee at all. Going back later to say they should have something to guard against head 'wacks' on the way out of the store also got no concern from her. Probably won't be back. read more

Nice place to hang out with a view of the water, even if the shore has receded from the beach in the summer. They have fried foods I. The restaurant upstairs, but we got drinks downstairs in the shop. They also have self pump soft serve ice cream cones that I will definitely be taking advantage of on the next visit. Dog friendly and chill, I could sit here all day. The only thing that's disappointing is that they don't sell Chicken In a Biscuit flavored Goofyfoot Pretzels anymore. I visited the Boston Harbor Marina by car and the drive to the marina through Olympia was beautiful. On the streets near the marina, the historic names for the streets are included on the street name signs, helping give a feel for what the roads and structure of the area used to be. When I stopped by on Saturday the 18th of April 2020 the restaurant outdoor seating was closed (COVID-19 related temporary closure) but the pathway down to the marina and the store was still open. The marina is small, it was fun to spot different types of boats including a sailboat in the open water visible behind those docked at the marina from the shore. There is also some beach you can explore. A good place for a picnic and/or if you are on the road and want to get out and enjoy the scenery. read more

Came here 5 or 6 times on Friday evenings last summer (2022) Always crowded but never packed like sardines. Tonight (6-2-23) was different. Arrived at 4:30 and virtually every seat was already taken. What really irritated us was the fact that many of the customers had grabbed extra chairs and were "saving" them for friends that hadn't arrived yet. Also numerous customers told us that spots at the picnic tables were also "saved" for those that hadn't arrived yet. Very rude crowd; not at all like our interactions last year. Not sure why all the jerks decided to go there tonight. We will be thinking twice about going here again on a Friday evening. read more

Happened upon this gem by accident while cruising around the Olympia area. Took a chance on getting lunch - absolutely loved it. It's cute, the staff is friendly and the food (our little group chose a burger, a panini and a French dip) was really good. Nice view of the water too. Super chill. I want to return. Beautiful location, but the most unpleasant kayak rental experience I have had. We showed up early for our reservation and waited in line to be helped. When we finished paying and started gearing up, we realized it was 10 minutes past the beginning of our reservation. Although they had capacity for us to choose to go out longer, they did not have the decency to adjust our 2 hour reservation to when they were actually able to help us. We then waited for the single employee on the dock to get our four kayaks and give us the safety talk. By the time we actually got out, we had lost 30 minutes of our time. Felt very slimy, especially compared to the strict schedule they expected us to adhere to. The Kayaks themselves we too small for my dad and I (6'4"), and they were more unstable than novice kayakers like us would have liked. I get the feeling they were running low on boats, but there was no discussions about our comfort level with boats that would be more difficult to use. One star for having bird boxers for the purple Martin swallows and another star for the nice person who helped us with the boats. read more

This is a really beautiful, relaxing, and nice area to hang out in and have a coffee, drink, or snack while you look out at the Sound, at the water and the aquatic wildlife in the harbor. There is a very nice little snack shack (I enjoyed the snack foods, I tried their chili), a little gift shop, and an amazing view from the dock with a fair amount of tables and benches. There is a small side parking lot that can get hectic during the day from visitors, and the customers/ boat owners in marina, so I would recommend to get there early or around your average peak outdoor times! read more

This is the first Marina I have been to when going Kayaking. It seemed okay - a little run down. The prices seemed kind of high too. It was $20 for two hours, however we were only able to kayak for 45 minutes since we got there so late. We asked if we could pay a little less and they said no way. They also said that if we got in after 6:45 (the place closed at 7) we would get charged at $25 late fee (per kayak). They also were not around when we were ready to get off the kayak - so we basically had to roll out of the kayak. The one cool thing about this place was that we were able to see seals out in water. Too bad we didn't have our camera to take pictures. Next time I think I am going to have to check out a different marina - just to compare and see if there is anything else (better) out there. read more

I'm sticking with the spirit of yelp's stars above. I am tempted to give them 3 stars, but I would not, however, say they were 'A-OK', which that that would imply. My girlfriend and I were looking forward to a sunny weekend and sought out kayaking options a bit further afield from the Seattle area. Calling in and making reservations was no problem. They took my credit card info to hold the reservation and informed me of the 24 hour cancellation fee. The drive to the marina was pleasant and we arrived before we realized we had. There were a couple signs along the route, which wasn't complicated at all, but nothing really stands out from the street at the marina.There appears to be plenty of parking in a gravel lot across the street from the building and pier. I filled out the paperwork and returned to the car to get a few things (including my girlfriend, hah) and lost the man that was helping us. I guessed that he was already on the pier, perhaps with other customers returning, yet could not find him. After returning to the building for help, someone else was whistled over from further down the pier. We were handed nondescript life jackets and kayak poles for our double-sized kayak. Noting that the two of us had kayaked before, singly, we weren't given any further tips or suggestions other than the fact that the kayak was "more stable." As the tide was quite low, I helped carry the kayak to a spot deep enough for us to board. We weren't given any skirts, though a floatation device and bilge pump was bungied in the middle. We did enjoy our 2 hours or so paddling around the sound. It truly was a perfect day with sunny skies and practically no wind to disturb the mirrored surface of the water. My girlfriend briefly spotted a harbor seal at one point, which was fun, though we had hoped to have spotted more wildlife than seagulls and ducks. Once far enough away from the marina, Mount Rainier was quite clear and looming large on the horizon. Upon our return, we had both managed to crawl out of the kayak and onto the dock before anyone had come around to help us. In fact, we had mistakenly returned to the point where we had departed, even though the tide had returned and we could easily have paddled up to the dock with the kayaks and gear. Oops. We weren't really sure if we wanted to crawl back in again and while standing there trying to make sense of the situation someone did come around that helped me lift the kayak out and carry it the 20 feet to other side of the pier. Ultimately, they were surprisingly not busy and we didn't get much service or attention at all. They also appeared somewhat disorganized and, let's say, well-worn. read more

We absolutely love coming here by boat! I will say that it has been difficult finding a parking spot since the dock has taken a long time to repair due to permits. The new owners have done a great job with the food menu and beer/cider selections. And, they now have beer on tap! A great place to hang out when the weather is nice. Highly recommend! read more

This Marina is quite cool. If your not an experienced boater or kayaker, maybe take a lesson first, they don't have time to teach you, they have no instructors to teach you. Scenery is beautiful, you may see Orcas out there! It can be quite windy at times, so check the weather before you go! This is something all boaters should know! Keep yourselves safe, USE COMMON SENSE! It IS water after all! KNOW YOUR LIMITS! Oh, did I mention they have an Awesome choice of Micro-brews! Today marks the second straight day that I've spent hanging out at Boston Harbor Marina. Its a sweet deal- you pull into the Harbor, and park on the left. Cross the street, go down some stairs, and their is a little store to the left and down a few more stairs and a covered area with picnic benches in front of you, with beach acess to the right, or a dock straight ahead. I advise you to head into the store and buy a beer, open it on the wall mounted brass bottle opener in the patio area, and walk around. Go jump off the pier, or wade around in the beach area. If you get hungry, there are all sorts of great sandwiches (Made in house) and things like fresh salmon spread and ALL sorts of cured/smoked fish/meats. There is also fresh seafood available (live crabs, sockeye etc) The beer selection is SUPERB for a little shack (gluten-free option, and a 22oz selection that includes Elysian Porter, Pacifico, Stone Brewing, and Snoqualmie Falls Brewing) There is a couple shelves of books (boating and PNW related- lots of good cookbooks)if you forgot yours and a little area where you can buy an anchor or boat battery if you are in need. SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM. For like a buck. On the covered patio area, you'll find anyone from a screaming baby, to a group of sun battered sailors arm wrestling. As far as the staff at the shack goes, they were all really busy but still had time to say hi and engage in small talk, but who gives a shit? Gave a lot of grief about being overweight to our group of experienced kayakers who've had no problems with any kayaks elsewhere, and were generally rude beyond any explanation. Quaint, charming, etc. The people who run it and work there seem really nice. Fun place to go and enjoy the ambiance, hang out on the big deck, and have a beer. We are local, and we rent a seasonal slip for our boat at the marina. And I have to say that the only reason we do so is because we love the location. But, the general conditions of the marina are very poor. TONS of unsafe and loose boards underfoot, boards just resting in place (not even nailed down), and nails sticking way up (serious trip hazards!) There have been loose boards covering a hole by our boat for two weeks! The place is a huge liability risk, and I hope they have damn good insurance because it's only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured. Also, there are NO RESTROOMS except for the nasty public ones across from the store in the parking lot, which rarely if ever have toilet paper.... There really should be restrooms for marina customers, like at every other marina! Of course, the repairs are way more important.... It's been fun, but we might not come back next year. If we do, it's only the location that attracts us. read more

Boston Harbor is a super quaint, unique, & awesome place. The people are fantastic. The employees at the marina are friendly & quirky. It's a great place to go and unwind, take in the view, have a beer or a glass of wine, relax, make friends, and have an all around good time. The beer selection is superb (really above and beyond) for a tiny marina store. They have a good selection of Eddyline kayaks in awesome shape and a fun little Catalina for rental, should you decide to venture off the docks/ beach. They have yummy, local, seafood for great prices. And even though it is technically a private marina, it's open to the public, so you can go down and walk on the docks. I can't think of a single other marina that will let you do that. I give it five stars because, while there may be fancier marinas, the ambiance of this place is unlike any other marina I've ever been to. read more

We had the unpleasant experience of renting two kayaks with two young kids on a very windy day. We have only been kayaking once before in great conditions and let them know this. We were, in no way, warned that this might NOT be a great idea. We were out for maybe a half and hour--we could barely row our way out of the marina. We asked the owner to refund us at least one hour or one boat and he refused. Meanwhile, there was a line of people waiting to rent kayaks. We do not plan on visiting the place again.
