I called about pursuing fertility screening/medicated cycles and was told that they would only work with patients pursuing ivf or iui. If you aren't going to offer these services for people who aren't pursuing more extensive intervention, you shouldn't advertise them on your website. It's already hard to accept that you're going to need medical intervention to have a child, but to then also be met with the most apathetic staff makes the situation even worse--especially when dealing with something as difficult as infertility. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! My experience with Boston IVF was an absolute NIGHTMARE, primarily due to their unethical and aggressive billing department. After completing treatment, I started receiving bills for charges that seemed completely unfounded - storage fees for embryos that I was told would be disposed of, and amounts that didn't match any services I authorized or received. When I questioned these charges and requested itemized explanations, communication was evasive, and responses were slow or nonexistent. Despite making payments, I later discovered that some had not been properly applied to my account, leading to escalating fees. Then came the threats: repeated calls and letters pushing the "debt" to collections, even though disputes were ongoing and many charges appeared erroneous or unauthorized. It felt like outright bullying. How many times do I need to call and cancel services, drop off a letter and send an email. IVF is stressful enough without a clinic adding financial harassment on top of it. Boston IVF's billing practices seem designed to overcharge and intimidate patients into paying disputed amounts quickly. I strongly advise anyone considering this clinic to look elsewhere as there are better options that treat patients with respect and transparency. I have no issues with Boston IVF as a whole, but the Brookline Office is terrible. I sometimes need to get bloodwork here before work and the phlebotomist is never on time, causing me to be late for work. Appointments start at 0630 and she doesn't show up until sometimes 7am. read more

I am working with Dr. STEVEN BAYER. He has extremely rude nurses who are constantly hanging up on me and do not allow me to access proper medical care. I need medical exams and was simply asking the nurses questions related. They got bored with my questions and decided to just start hanging up on me (I was talking with them for less than 2 minutes btw so I was not even asking many questions). I have not been able to schedule my exam which is time sensitive. Also I think all of us should be able to ask medical questions since they are putting strange things in our vagina!!! Boston IVF is stressful and has very bad personnel. No idea why I have to pay to get rude service and stressful interactions. I do not recommend this place. read more

Unfortunately, IVF is not a slam dunk procedure. Get ready for a ride which would take longer than you anticipate and get charged far more than you imagine. They are too big to care about you and give you wrong medications (full dosage of hormones that you would inject in your body) if you are not aware of your medication. If you cancel any service, they get you to pay for the full amount. Say you cancel storage on the first day of month, you would be billed for the whole month. We had to go through it; but I wish we did not have to. read more

This is by far the worst practice I have ever visited for any type of medical attention. When I called for more information they scheduled me for an initial consultation. I asked if there would be a fee and they said no, not for this information-gathering session at the clinic. I then received a $400 bill in the mail. When I called to explain that I was told I would not be charged for it, the administration laughed at me and said they would never offer free visits. I am appalled that they think this kind of behavior is professional or acceptable. If you're trying to have a baby, the best advice I can give you is don't start your journey with this condescending and dishonest place. read more

It's the path to the land of broken dreams. Here are the main characters of my experience. 1) Dr Ryley-- 15 minute initial visit and does the prescriptions, you'll be lucky if you ever see him again. He will never take your call if you have concerns, he always goes through his nurse Heidi after the initial visit. California surfer looking guy with blonde highlights. He's literally dying to kick you out so he can daydream about this tan. 2) Heidi the nurse-- your main point of contact. Good decent person. But you can tell she's on the cusp of last ounce of sanity. I imagine her wanting to have a cage fight with Dr. Ryley cause she's so pissed at him. 3) Tanya, the financial coordinator-- novice, not knowledgeable on insurance, payment and promotions, always repeats your statement and says then says I don't understand. Like literally, the only thing she says is "I don't understand what you mean." She wants you to pay her and leave her alone. You can tell she hates her job. Like HATES her job. She's secretly seething BostonIVF employees are all so white. Can't say I blame her. 4) Amanda-- Ryleys admin. Knows nothing about you, your experience, your needs. She literally begs you not to call her to set something up with Dr Ryley and seems to always want to punt it to Heidi the nurse. ___ Overall experience: When you walk in the door, they literally know you will be there at least a second round. They basically say that up front. We won't pump you with enough medication so you must see me round 2-- cha ching! Let me sh*t on your wallet now! One time I did blood work, and bled profusely. Their reaction, "Why didn't you press? You should have put pressure on it." Like whateves b*tch. They never tell you this-- but they always prescribe you too much medication. Expect to lose at least $1000 on unused medication because they over prescribe. Literally, b*tches outside deal their unused medication. Whispering: Gonal F for $400? (even though they paid $900). Menopur for $50 bucks? They literally turn desperate housewives, single professional women, into dealers. Its borderline seedy. But let's be honest, unless the b*tches are black, single professional white women aren't going to be handcuffs in Brookline. Billing-- I can't tell you how much times I got transferred from Tanya to Waltham office to their outside billing vendor. No one knows each other. More patients = more experience = better patient outcomes That being said this place is a factory. Slap a number on you and go through the assembly line. They are so busy it always feels like they don't have time for you, and they don't, but keep pushing through because you've invested a lot of time in them. In the times where you really need a personal touch, you won't find it here, or at any other one of their clinics. I felt compelled to write this review after reading the previous horrible ones. I can't say enough good things about Boston IVF and especially Dr. Ryley. While our journey was not easy, I always felt supported and informed. I never once felt like it was a "factory" and the staff went to bat for me numerous times to fight ridiculous unnecessary testing required by our insurance, so I have no idea why some people think they are just out to make a profit. Dr Ryley is warm, friendly and very caring as are all the nurses I've had during the many many blood tests and ultrasounds over the past few years. Obviously a process such as this one is emotionally draining, but hopefully patients are prepared for the journey they are taking on. We have a healthy happy baby boy that would most likely not be possible without the help provided by Boston IVF. read more

This is a factory. When my husband and I went in, we got the same dumb nonsensical thermostat analogy that I am sure is given to all patients. Questions about alternative protocols and various supplements are quickly and condescendingly glossed over. Don't expect any out of the box thinking here -- so, if you are not textbook, you might want to do some additional research. And don't get me started on the billing office where the woman I was talking to seemed to have the IQ of my sock. She suggested that I and my GYN didn't know that BIVF only provided infertility services not fertility services. It's a long story, but they were well aware of my medical diagnosis (which was not infertility) before I made the appointment. Maybe, just maybe somebody didn't read my file... Long story long, I took the supplement cocktail that is listed on one of the fertility boards recommended by the top RE doc (Dr. Schoolcraft) in the country, started acupuncture with a FABORM certified practitioner, got a sprinkling of miracle baby dust from my recently departed mother, and I am now seven weeks pregnant. Different things work for different people. Make sure you do your homework, and make sure you feel like you are in good hands. Trust your maternal instincts. Best of luck. read more

I'm actually kind of shocked by the terrible reviews of Boston IVF. First off, it is your gynecologist's job to do the full infertility workup before referring you to a reproductive endocrinologist. Also, if you are still exploring things like vitamins, acupuncture, stress-relieving techniques, etc. as the SOLE treatment, then you are probably not ready to go the ART route yet. If you have done all of the legwork beforehand (extensive blood tests, HSG, semen analysis, etc.) and have been diagnosed as infertile, and you have already explored the less invasive options, then you are probably ready to go to a specialist. Yes, seeing an RE frequently leads to oral or injectable medication and/or things like laparoscopy, insemination, or IVF...you can't blame Boston IVF for doing their job. Anyway, I had a great experience at Boston IVF. Every staff member and doctor at Boston IVF was excellent--professional and courteous to me and my husband. I saw Dr. Ryley there, and my husband and I loved his conservative approach. He was realistic yet optimistic, and always took a lot of time to explain everything thoroughly to us during meetings with the help of pictures, graphs, etc. He was also very good about giving us Boston IVF's stats based on our specific diagnosis and my age when discussing treatment options. While we didn't succeed with our first type of treatment (insemination), we did with IVF and are now pregnant....and we have Dr. Ryley to thank for that. I also thought one of the ultrasound techs in particular was terrific (I think her name was Cheryl...something like that), and I also really liked Susan (she did all of the blood work). Both of them remembered me every time I went in for a monitoring appointment, and we would end up having a great conversation that took my mind off treatment. After going to both the Brookline and Waltham locations, I definitely preferred the Brookline office. It was much smaller and seemed to run on schedule most of the time. Waltham was definitely larger/busier (the waiting room was always had 10+ people in it, whereas Brookline usually had about three or four people waiting), but was still fine. The only downside to being a patient at the Brookline location is that weekend appointments and major procedures (IVF, etc.) must be done at Waltham anyway, as Brookline is closed on the weekends and too small to accommodate surgical procedures. In any case, I thought Boston IVF was top notch. I have and will continue to recommend it to any of my local friends and family who are struggling with infertility. read more

After going to an RE at Brigham and Womens, I am very happy to be at Boston IVF. First of at b&w you are more in contact with the nurses than the dr, and if you want to talk to your dr, the nurse will try to dismiss your questions and worries and tell you to listen to them. At Boston IVF the drs make scheduled phone apts so that they can go over your progress in your cycle and with your case. I have also found them to treat each person differently rather than follow the same plan for every patient. I am very happy with the care and quality of the care. In my opinion tsay away from the busy hospitals where they are more interested in seeing their name on a published report than caring for their patients. read more

Worst experience of my life. We went through three rounds of IVF with no luck. The doctors and nurses were very cold and never made me feel comfortable. The doctor even told us we should consider adoption and the very next month we got pregnant on our own. When my son turned 8 months, we discovered I was pregnant again, on our own. During the process we did have one embryo frozen. My insurance covered the storage for 2 years. After a year and a half, I got a bill in the mail that amounted to 6 months worth of billing. I called immediately and was told insurance only covered for one year, but that if I agreed to donate my embryo or destroy it, they would waive the fees. Still doesn't make sense why they would wait six months to send a bill that should be going out monthly because I would have noticed it right away. But anyways, My husband and I completed the paperwork to destroy the embryo. Three months later, I get another bill in the mail totaling over $1,500! I called again and they claim they never received the paperwork, even though I called a week after I mailed it and the person I spoke to confirmed they received it. Fast forward almost 4 years later and they refuse to destroy my embryo and continue to threaten to send my bill (now almost $4000) to a collection agency and ruin my credit if I don't pay the bill in full. I'm actually contacting an attorney about this. They are using my embryo to try and get more money out of us! Stay away from this place! read more

Terrible. Even though I liked Dr. Ryley, I only got to see him a total of 30min over the course of the year I worked with BIVF. BIVF is becoming the McDonald's of IVF, lots of sloppy administration, and I'm not convinced that the docs/nurses were all that good. I had multiple failed IVFs with them, and then I got smart, and switched to a clinic in NYC with an amazing staff--In fact, I tried to find another clinic in MA, but BIVF is buying them all up. Instead, I contacted a clinic in NYC (I'd worked with the doctor there before for my first pregnancy). They, unlike BIVF, were AMAZING!! Super attentive, no administrative sloppiness, the doctor and the nurses were extremely knowledgeable and answered emailed questions even on weekends, helped me find Boston-based service providers to do my remote monitoring (ultrasound, blood-work). And I would go to NYC for the harvesting and the transfer. I only worked with my one doctor and my two nurses, rather than being handed off between whichever doctors or nurses were on call whichever day at whichever location. The other thing that they did that BIVF didn't do was they tried to determine MY specific issues as opposed to treating me like every other patient. The NY doctor immediately figured out that my issue wasn't stimulation (duh--BIVF just kept trying to stimulate me harder, with worse results) but rather post-FET issues. The NYC clinic didn't have me pump myself full of more of the same meds (unlike BIVF). They were knowledgable about new testing procedures that immediately elucidated my problem. They also used treatments that BIVF won't consider for whatever academic reason (a friend who also used BIVF said that BIVF wouldn't put her on those treatments because they don't believe in them). Well, those treatments made all the difference for me--the NYC clinic got me pregnant the first shot on just one embryo transferred. While it was added effort to manage my own care remotely, it wasn't much more effort than having to manage the sloppiness at BIVF (and Harvard Vanguard previously--they are even worse than BIVF). Plus, the results were like night and day. Their skill, service and competence were 180-degrees from BIVF. BIVF is essentially becoming an IVF monopoly in Boston, cashing in on the increase in IVF patients due to MA's requirement of HMOs to cover IVF. As a result, they have turned fertility medicine into a cash-cow business, where it's all about stripping out costs, de-personalizing treatment, and dragging hopeful mothers through months of wasted effort. It's shameful and I hope someone fixes this broken system. PS I am not on an HMO that pays for me--I had to self-pay. read more

I can't say enough great things about Dr. Ryley. I am shocked by some of the reviews and I think that maybe people are expecting IVF to be easy and work right away. I got pregnant on my second cycle with Dr. Ryley (3rd cycle overall as I started at a different center). Dr. Ryley was always very kind, patient, open and honest. I felt like I always had a say in our approach but respected his opinion. Dr. Ryley always called me personally whether it was good or bad news. I met with him in person for an initial consult and before each cycle. He took his time in explaining everything to me and I always felt like I was in good hands. This place has a business practice that is very unethical. I booked a app with them through my OBGYN. I canceled with them around that time I discovered I was already pregnant. I was so excited. However I received a bill in the mail from them for a $100 for a NO SHOW. I thought how can this be. I spoke with my OBGYN and they thought it was ridiculous especially the amount of the bill. I spoke with a nasty miserable manager in the billing department. I explained the situation to her and she said oh well thats our policy. I was so upset that they could be so money hungry and shady. I dont really know what to do or what my rights are. Im so upset about this. I didnt even know a medical practice could do this. read more

This place is designed to take your HMO money & nothing else. You go in with all your hope, and they just process you like you were cattle. Before you go through the pain & tears of IVF make sure you try all your other options first: Take your men's & women's multivitamins for 3-6 months, go to the gym everyday, men get your varicocele procedure done, and eat right. As soon as our HMO allowance was spent they lost interest in us. Dr. Selwyn, always talked to us like it was our first day there, he had no real involvement in our case just the mechanics of the IVF process. Congrats to all the lucky ones! read more

I am actually shocked that people gave 5* for their service. Am I the only one getting discriminated here? I am still going through the treatment there, so far have no complaints about their physicians, but already had so much horrible experience with the nurses there. I had an urgent request for blood test from Boston IVF, as such I had to do this out of Quest Diagnostics in San Francisco. When I showed up, unlike what my nurse had told me the day before, the order was never received by Quest Diagnostics. I called Boston IVF the first time, one nurse found the order and resent right away. The fax still never arrived. I called back, a nurse named Christiana transferred me to a voice mail. I called back, explained to her that this is an urgent matter, Christiana said she was not allowed to fax and there was nothing she could do about it. I should just leave a voice mail and wait until anybody called me back, then transferred me to a voice mail again. I called back the third time and told her that the other nurse could just fax it and I could not understand why nobody else in the whole Boston IVF office can do the same. The situation was escalated to somebody else, and it turned out my nurse (who she transferred me to the voice mail before) was not even in the office that day. I could have ended up leaving a voicemail and never got a return call and spent the whole day at Quest Diagnostics. After a few more phone calls, finally the fax came after more than 1 hour. This is not the first time I had problems with nurses at Boston IVF. I was asked to leave a a voicemail for scheduling appointment for semen analysis at 9AM, received no calls back, and after multiple times, I finally got somebody on the phone at 4PM. My appointment for X-ray on my 5th day took 2 days to schedule after so many voicemails, until my husband showed up in the office and waited until somebody could see him in person. Given the world-class reputation and high cost service at Boston IVF, this kind of service is unbelievable!! I have only experienced the same quality of services in third world countries. It is so discouraging having to go through so much pain unnecessarily with the staff here. You all know that we are desperate for being treated, but please don't treat us like doing us a favor, because we do have to pay a lot for this service! read more

He was just like a used car sales man, I am disgusted with this place. The woman that handles the insurance was not helpful at all, I had to call my insurance and figure things on my own, she was worthless to me. This place is the worst place, I do not recommend anyone go here. I have had such a positive experience with Boston IVF. We started on our journey with them about a year ago, to deal with recurrent miscarriages. I was referred to Dr. Ryley, who is wonderful. He's funny and compassionate and as smart as they come. I see him in the Brookline office, and I go to their Waltham location for bloodwork and procedures. The team in Waltham is so compassionate and flexible. They've answered every late night phone call, let me cry, and have made me feel cared for at a time when i felt really vulnerable. Dr. Ryley continues to give me hope that we will have success, as he is constantly tweaking and analyzing our results so that we can achieve a healthy pregnancy. While our first IVF ended in a miscarriage, we have high hopes that with his help, we will get our happy news soon. I would recommend them to anyone going through this roller coaster. read more

I take reviews of fertility clinics with a grain of salt- it is such a fraught process, so I will say I did find success (twice!). I lost my first at 20 weeks before ending up at a fertility clinic. After that, I became a very anxious person and the staff of BIVF was always willing to listen to me, my concerns and talk me through everything. My son was born after my first round of treatment (so the previous review about them deliberately causing a failed first cycle is anecdotally and logically untrue- no clinic would drive down their own success rates intentionally). When we wanted to try again for another, I did a few rounds of insurance required IUIs and then moved on to IVF. No one knows how a woman will respond to medication before she cycles the first time. I ended up way UNDER-ordering drug and was a poor responder. I say this to again refute previous claims that there is a deliberate over-ordering of drug scheme occurring here (I also never came across the mythical fertility drug dealers in the parking lot-alas I paid for them from the pharmacy!). We did 3 rounds of IVF and after PGS (previous loss was chromosomal) wound up with one embryo for an FET. That embryo was my perfect daughter. Were there issues- yes. Mostly related to communication/ scheduling. However, the clinic always worked to rectify the situation. Once I was expecting a call during the embryo growth phase IVF and didn't get one until late in the afternoon. I called Carol the IVF nurse and left a panicked voicemail and then sent an email. While I was hitting send- Dr. Riley called me himself. The news was not good and he wanted to call personally. The delay was unfortunate- but in retrospect I appreciated the personal touch. I cannot stress enough how much my hub and I love Dr Riley. I could see his bedside manner not appealing to everyone (though really- no one appeals to everyone!) but we found him funny and honest. I have egg quality issues (which was obvious from a chromosomal loss at 28 and crappy embryo development) it wouldn't be fair to blame this on the clinic. It is easy for people to have success to give 5 stars and those that didn't give one. i hope I backed up my review with enough background that you can see the clinic did a great job, never gave up on me and treated me with respect. read more

Boston IVF is a complete disgrace for a fertility center. They deserve NO stars in my opinion. I do realize that this is a business...but in this kind of "business", the patients should be treated with even the slightest bit of empathy. Instead...you are treated just like another number and a bank!! The ONLY thing they care about is your money! I didn't work with Boston IVF for very long, as it did not take long for me to see their true colors. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for 2 years without success when we were referred to Boston IVF in South Portland Maine. Having already come from a specialist after a year with no luck and no plan, we were given high expectations and hopes for this place. We met with the Dr for 20 minutes to discuss my PCOS and what my next step should be. IUI was decided as the next step. Before I could start Clomid I had to pay the $500 for the procedure (which was fine given that I knew my insurance did not cover infertility treatments/procedures). Once I ovulated, I called in and my husband and I went in for IUI the following morning. As soon as the procedure was complete I was told that I could "assume" I was pregnant. WHAT??!! You NEVER tell a woman that has been trying to conceive without success that she can "assume" that she's pregnant!! We left the office feeling positive and crazy hopeful, especially given what we had just been told. 5 days later I was called by the office to PAY for my next round of IUI...ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!! "I don't even know if the last round has worked yet...its only been 5 days and I was told that I could assume I'm pregnant. Why would I pay another $500 if this one worked?!" Fast forward to 2+ weeks later...I started my period. I literally cried for days...It's not like I had miscarried...but it felt like it. I called the office to let them know that I wouldn't be in to have my labs drawn because there was no need since I had started my period. The nurse called me back...never said I'm sorry...just said "Hi, I hear you started your menses so we can't go ahead and prescribe you meds and do another round of IUI until you pay the $500 fee." I said to her...to be honest I really can't afford to do another round this month. Her response: "Ok. Just give us a call when your ready. Bye." I was left feeling as though..."hmm...I wonder if they even placed my husbands actual sperm in me or if it was just water?!" That is the day I decided never to go back to Boston IVF. They are a factory and a money hungry business. I've moved on to a different and AMAZING fertility center, and even though they are out of the way for me and I have to drive almost 2 hours...even just for blood draws...I've never been so pleased with the care I've received...from ANY provider! They have a plan...they answer my questions promptly, they are honest and respectful. When I am there I feel like I am the only patient they care for. I've been given REAL statistics and their prices are HALF the price!!! I have a "heart shaped" uterus (AKA: Bicornuate) found during an HSG done through Boston IVF. The radiologist documented it to be bicornuate vs arcuate. With a bicornuate uterus, there is high chance for there to be a septum hanging from the top, which would need to be removed due to the fact that there is no maternal blood supply there. So if an embryo would attach itself there, you would miscarry. So WHY would you continue to give a woman with this, multiple rounds of fertility treatment without knowing?? MONEY...once again!! They only way to know if there is a septum in the uterus is by MRI or Hysteroscopy...none of which were ever thought about or talked about...until I began seeing my new specialist. I was told by my new specialist that I needed to lose weight. And honestly...he was right! I did...and I knew that deep down! I was told it would increase my chances of a successful pregnancy & birth by a great percentage. I needed to hear those things. I needed to go somewhere where they gave a shit (excuse my language)! They are almost half the price for IVF than Boston IVF...which tells you a lot...and they guarantee to pay for a 3rd round of IVF should you need it. They've NEVER once talked about money with me and have shown the utmost compassion in what they do. They are NOT a factory as Boston IVF is. Today, I have lost 50lbs in 5 months working with a nutritionist that was recommended to me by my new specialist and I've increased my chances greatly of a healthy and successful pregnancy. If a doctor tell you that it would be a good idea for you to loose some weight before beginning any treatments; they mean it...and it means they only CARE!! I will go out of my way to tell EVERYONE exactly what Boston IVF is all about...and I discourage anyone who has been struggling with trying to conceive, to seek evaluation and treatment at this joke of a fertility center. read more

Bait and switch just about sums up my experience at Boston IVF. I met with a charming well qualified doctor who had won awards for my initial consultation, but never saw him again for any of my follow up visits or procedures. In fact, a trainee who had to be supervised performed my transfer even though my appointment was scheduled with one of the more qualified doctors. I was never asked for my consent to have the trainee perform the procedure, she just took over in the procedure room, which was very distressing to me, as we only had one viable embryo. Needless to say the procedure was not successful and my experience was very unsatisfactory. Boston IVF claims that this is standard practice for them and that they were not in the wrong for not asking my permission to have a trainee do the procedure. I find this truly scary. read more
