My neck and wrist has been bothering me for weeks and decided to explore new massage places using groupon. Was going to meet up William for dinner in downtown and this place was perfect for my schedule. Lucy was extremely professional and skilled in helping me release tensions from my neck and shoulders. I didn't know I had so many knots. Been overworked lately and really glad I went for a massage. Note: Do not expect 5 star ambiance. However, this place is very clean and functional and provides wonderful massages. Bathroom is on the second floor so make sure to ask them for the key. The furniture looks like it was purchased at yard sale. the doors are paper thin and you hear all the conversations while you are trying to relax. No signs no credentials on the wall. it smelled like someone had been smoking pot before i arrived. there was zero skin to skin contact all was performed over a grayish sheet. As many of you -my faithful readers- know, I injured my back at a Yelp elite event when I was mistaken for a food server carrying a plate of Lobster Sliders. (normally the rate, for treatment by a licensed Massage therapist, is twice to four times that amount!) Never one to pass up a great deal: I made an appointment. I went into their office at 5:10 pm (right after work) and was immediately impressed by the Professionalism of their office. Everything is state of the art! (see photo) and the Massage room is crisp, clean and perfectly temperatured. After filling out some new patient info (routine Dr's office stuff) I was ready for my treatment. The Massage therapist Lucy Lu is extremely professional and extremely experience. Before every facet of the treatment she explained exactly what she was doing and how she was going to do it. The treatment lasted a full hour (if not a little over) and was the most comprehensive and thorough massage I ever had. Now, it is very important to add, when seeing a true Massage therapist not all the aspects of the massage feel pleasurable (it is much much more like physical therapy then a massage your significant other gives you). BUT you will feel much better afterwords; as it solves the underlying problems. And that's really the whole point, isn't it? Easily one of the worst massage places I have been. The location I went to in the Jewelers Exchange Building on Washington Street. The only reason I tried Boston Pain Relief is because I purchased a Groupon for a 60 minute deep tissue or tui na massage. Since I was in the area, I called the number listed on the Groupon to see if I could make a last minute appointment. The woman on the other end said that they may potentially have an opening but was not guaranteed as the couple at that time slot had not shown up and also had not called about being late. She said I could take their time slot if they did not show up. So I proceeded to go to their location to be greeted not by the woman on the phone but by an elderly man and another woman, who entirely could speak any English. Unfortunately for me, the couple with the appointment arrived right before I did. I tried explaining to the Boston Pain Relief that I had just spoken to someone from their business and about the appointment situation. They called the number I showed them and they seemed to understand the situation. I went to leave but they tried to get me to come back in an hour. I said I would come back another time as I had to be somewhere in an hour. They did not seem to understand that, and so kept insisting I come back. I said I would call and make an appointment... And so I did... so this location in the Jewelers Exchange Building is either a newer one or a second location. This location is small, and does not look like the pictures on the yelp site. There appears to consist of a front and back room. When you walk on, you pretty much walk into the first therapy "room". There is a curtain that separates the massage table from the entry to the business. The back room appears to be another therapy room and or office. I heard another customer back there talking to the elderly gentleman I had met earlier in the week. So you guessed it, I got my massage from the other woman I met. The one star is primarily for the actual massage itself. I expected deep tissue, which I had conveyed, and all I got was what seemed like just fingers moving along the surface of my back. I really don't think this woman ever had a day of training--the technique that she was using did not resemble any other tiu na massage or Chinese/Asian massage I have ever had (or even western style massage for that matter). Furthermore she kept giggling, which made very self conscious. About 15 minutes in, I was waiting for it to be all over. I am not sure about the positive reviews for this place. My girlfriend and I went into this place having no idea what to expect, it's small and cramped, and there's not much else to it. It's a small room. However the lady asked what issues we were having, ande specifically I had huge knots scattered across my back. The man who massaged me, found knots I didn't even know I had. I usually have cold feet, and he restored circulation somehow and now I have warm feet. My mind was blown. It was a very painful process, but only because he worked on fixing the problem that was deeper than a common massage. He put a new meaning to "deep tissue massage", and I feel like a new person. I would give a 6 if I could!!!! I just went to Boston Pain Relief Massage (the Marlborough location), and was completely blown away by how amazing my masseuse was. I recently had nerve damage from surgery, and Lucy was able to reduce the swelling in my thigh so much (by rubbing my knee, who would've guessed?) that I have stopped taking the pain medication prescribed to me. The facility is not one of those sparkly spas with waterfalls and luxury linens, but it is clean and they provide a true therapeutic experience. This is a wellness massage, not a pamper massage. The bad reviews on here are from the Boston location, do not let them keep you away from Lucy in Marlborough, because she is THE BEST. When I was leaving my appointment, one of her regulars was on his way in, and you could tell immediately from their interaction that this woman is a healer. We started questioning our decision the moment we walked in the door. But we went on... The place is an absolute mess -- not the type of environment you want for a massage. They clearly don't wash the sheets. And for the headrests, they put a paper towel down... because clearly they don't wash or disinfect those either. But at least they were nice enough to provide a hard, $1 brand of paper towels to rest your face on. While I'm sure the old guy that works there is a nice man and knows what he's doing, he barely speaks English and clearly is too old to be giving massages. His hands tremble and he can barely walk. I came here on a groupon purchase for a 60 min deep tissue massage. Lucy was my masseuse. What I received instead was a hybrid of a Swedish and hot stone massage. Instead of doing deep tissue work and focusing focusing on my the areas that needed work my entire body got an entire light rub. I had spoken before we started that I wanted focus on my shoulders and back and the focus was barely there. At times there were a couple strokes of good pressure on my shoulders and back for about 1 sec and then it would go back to 10 mins of rubbing. Also the massage was only 50 mins long. When I laid down on the table it was 5:05 pm and when I left it was 5:55 pm. So instead of feeling relaxed, I left feeling the same and extremely disappointed in the massage. read more

This appears to be a family run operation with a mom, dad and son. The office is sketchy as hell and not like going to a typical massage spa. No relaxing music. When I first walked in, I could have ransacked the place for ten minutes before someone came out. Lucy speaks English but "Dr." Lee is a little rusty. They do a hybrid massage of shiatsu, deep tissue, Tui na, Thai, and hot stone. There was a back-rub portion felt like something my girlfriend would do. It was really fast motion and not terribly relaxing.Then there's the finger pulling, the little piggy wiggling and the arm rotating. Part of the massage was on my legs, but over the sheet. When my quads and hamstrings got some attention, that felt good. But for the most part I was pretty bored. They use baby oil, and I could feel the callouses on Lucy's hands. Sammy is a magnificent masseuse. I have severe chronic arthritis. It got so bad I needed surgery. During my recovery period, I was in tremendous pain and it was getting worse throughout my body. Physical therapy, rest, and ice were not helping. I saw Sammy as a last ditch effort to relieve my pain and help with my swelling. The amazing people at Boston Pain Relief Massage have literally saved my life. I found them through a Groupon a year ago. When I went in I had been sick for a little more than a year with chronic sinus infections that inflamed my asthma. My stress level had accumulated to the point that my body had stopped retaining nutrients from the little food I was able to eat. I was always nauseous and hated eating in the first place. I had recently gone to the ER where they judged me and were plain rude. Lucy, Trisha and Dr. Lee have been so kind and welcoming. They are my biggest supporters. Lucy and Dr. Lee are two of the most knowledgeable healers and kindest people I have ever met. I've suffered from depression since adolescence, and western doctors have attempted to treat my condition through psychotherapy and medication. On my first visit, Lucy made me feel very comfortable and we discussed my expectations for the session and what I hoped to get out of it. For my particular case, the massage worked like a charm. I felt lighter and happy after my time with Lucy and bought an additional 6 sessions. All the tension that was built up in my body began to release. When I returned for the second time, Dr. Lee came in to consult, and though barely able to speak English, was able to communicate to me through hand gestures and Lucy. So cute! I could tell they both genuinely wanted to help me. We discussed the blockages in my energy channels and Lucy gave me tips for ways I could improve my diet and lifestyle. Dr. Lee gave me ergo-supplements to take, also with astounding effects. As other reviews have noted, this is not the traditional American "spa" where you go to get a high-end massage. This place is incredibly creepy. (Dr. Li) out of breath, chewing gum, sitting halfway on the massage table. Told me I have a good body. Bent me in all different directions. Covered me in baby oil. Left HOT stones on my back and left the room for 5 mins or more. Told me to sit in his chair after and gave me an even more uncomfortable massage. Told me around where he lives and his days off. I have been to over 6 different massage parlors in the past and this was by far the worst. I am glad some folks have 4-5 star experiences but I was unfortunately not one of them. I went in for a full body couples massage with my gf on a Thursday. Some really old guy (I think his name was Dr. Li) was my masseur and my gf had some lady who's name I didn't catch. My massage: Dr. Li was terrible. The man is very old, 80+ I think, and he was probably good in his days, but it's time for him to retire. He was so old that I could feel his hands shaking as he was trying to massage me. His pressure was very inconsistent across my body and he kept making inappropriate comments. Easily the worst massage I've ever had. My gf's massage: Her masseuse was not any better. She mentioned the masseuse completely skipped her arms and her head which is ridiculous because it was a full body massage. She said the pressure was inconsistent, the masseuse's attitude was cold and unwelcoming, and she rated the massage a 1 out of 10. I guess some of the massage therapists at this location are good here so sift through the other reviews and request those specific therapists. Visited Lucy at Boston Pain Relief Massage in Marlboro, after seeing her months before at the start of 2018. She gives a very unique, one-of-a-kind and quite vigorous massage based on TCM. It was most effective in my first experience with Lucy, but much less helpful today. This visit she berated me over and over, again and again about use of a Groupon. The rudest treatment I ever received from a massage therapist. Wish she had concentrated her energy on my arm rather than payment method. I had injured my knee running and playing soccer and wasn't excited to spend $800+ for an MRI just for the doctor to tell me to rest. I decided to give Lucy a try at the recommendation of my fiance. I'm incredibly glad I did and am now completely pain free. While she worked on my injured/tight muscle, ligaments and IT band, I did my work and strengthened my VMO to help with knee tracking pain. I'm 28 years old, 6'2" tall, and 250lbs. I work as a farmhand in Central PA. When I need my body to work, I need it to work well and for long hours in a single stretch. On some days I need to be capable of several thousand pounds of lifting without many breaks, and any single instance can be as much as 200lbs. I recently hurt my hip, leg, shoulder, and back when I took a fall from the top of an incomplete bunkbed. I initially thought that I'd be unable to work for at least 3 weeks- but that was before I saw Lucy. When I was first treated I was walking with a limp, I had difficulty raising my knees above my hips, my shoulders were sore, and pivoting on either ankle caused me pain. I was convinced that I had sprained a hip, an ankle, and possible had a minor dislocation in one or both of my shoulders. Lucy is a born giver, and only had my best interest in mind when she treated me. She worked systematically and carefully, treating my bruises, identifying the muscles and ligaments I had strained in my fall. She realized that I hadn't sprained anything, but that I simply had deep muscle bruises. The process took approximately an hour and a half between the acupressure and cupping. It was thoughtful, professional, and she led me through every element of her treatment. I felt comfortable and well taken care of from start to finish. She consistently checked in with me about my levels of pain while she massaged sore parts of my body and adjusted her care accordingly- sometimes pain at the moment of treatment will lead to much greater relief afterwards. I highly recommend Lucy's care because after my treatment I was back to work the very next day. My limp was gone, my shoulder was loose, and I could pivot with any part of my body. I've never had a medical experience like this, and although I've never been a believer in acupressure I can honestly say that I'm astonished at the rate and quality of my improvement. Summary first: This is my first time writing a negative review because it was truly HORRIBLE! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! DON'T TRUST WHAT 5 STAR REVIEWERS SAY! By far the WEIRDEST and most UNCOMFORTABLE massage experience ever! I thought I was on a candid camera show! SKETCHY looking place with subpar HYGIENE. No AC or it wasn't on. A pretty STRANGE acting masseuse who kept giggling and brushing her hair against my body, and completely IGNORED what I came there at first place. NOW HERE ARE THE DETAILS: APPOINTMENT AND ENTRY: I found a GROUPON deal and called the place to make an appointment before I buy the Groupon deal to make sure they have availability that day. The woman on the phone told me not to buy the Groupon deal and pay them in cash instead. Because I like to support small businesses rather than a big corporation, I agreed. The place is in a rundown office building downtown. Upon entering, the masseuse looked completely surprised and acted as if I was an intruder. After I told her that I had a 1 o'clock appointment, she still acted as if she wasn't expecting me. Then she remembered that I had called her like an hour ago. She asked me the same questions she asked on the phone: my name and phone number. And then she asked me to pay the money upfront in somewhat of a rude gesture. I found it a bit strange because I usually pay after the massage is done and add a tip. Little did I know that this was possibly a tactic so that customers don't leave in the middle of the massage or before even starting. Believe me, if I didn't pay for it, I would have left right away! This is how much of a weird vibe the place had and how uncomfortable I felt! THE MASSAGE ROOM: The room was sweltering hot. No AC. Or maybe it wasn't on. After I told her that it is hot, she put on a fan. The room was very messy. The sheets on the massage table were used earlier because I could see a lot of head and body hair on it. GROSS! Luckily she gave me paper towels to put on the head rest. Seeing that I'm still sweating, she removed the sheets on me very swiftly without asking my permission. Luckily, I still had underwear on. I would be OK with all these (considering how affordable it is). But this was only the beginning of a nightmarish one hour. MASSAGE: I asked her to focus on my my right upper back and showed where it hurt specifically. But she COMPLETELY ignored it for about at least half an hour. The massage mostly consisted of getting my body lubed up with baby oil, light touches and caresses on anywhere but the right side of my upper back. And then she started SNICKERING and GIGGLING randomly. I asked her what is funny and if anything is wrong. But no response! I felt really uncomfortable. Was she snickering because she taught something was weird with my body? Or was she getting some sort of a sick joy from consciously ignoring my painful area because I am so cheap and I deserve a poor treatment? I'll never know. After she massaged my legs and buttocks for about 10-15 minutes, I couldn't help but tell her that she should focus on my upper back. I repeated this request 2-3 times. She said if I want "the man." Not knowing what she meant, I told her to do whatever it takes to help me with the pain. Then she left the room snickering again. Then came in an old man who asked me what the matter is. I explained to him that the masseuse completely ignored my painful upper back. He bent my arm and applied incredible amount of pressure causing a great deal of discomfort and pain. But I was fine with it because at least he was addressing the issue rather than completely ignoring it. But to be honest, I've never seen this kind of a massage technique. He then asked the masseuse to bring hot stones. Of course, the stones were too hot and burned my skin! And then I got used to them, and I was fine. The man kept asking if I felt any better. I told him "no" every single time. Finally he gave up and left the room. The masseuse went on massaging my legs and my buttocks with the hot stones still resting on my back. One of the hot stones slipped and fell on the ground making a huge noise and scared me. The rest of the massage focused on my legs and feet mostly. Then the finale was her on top of me with her hair brushing against my body occasionally! I mean literally on top of me! And did I mention all the SNICKERING? Super UNCOMFORTABLE and UNPROFESSIONAL! When I told her that my back still hurts, she told me to exercise more! I got a deal on amazon local and made an appointment because I have a lot of back pain. One reason why I got the amazon local deal is becuase this place has a lot of good reviews on yelp, which I am confused about considering my experience. First, the woman (unsure of her name) was late for my appointment. Second, the massage consisted of the woman just placing her hands on me over the sheet (there was minimal contact with my skin) and pressing against one part of my body, making that part of my body just go back and forth with little pressure. Third, the woman's phone kept vibrating during my session (thought it could have been my missed calls but I had no texts or calls during the session) and she made two excuses to leave the room (I am guessing to answer the phone?). So that was nice. Fourth, my back "pain relief massage" consisted of ONLY rubbing lotion on my back and placing warm rocks on my back. Fifth, the woman asked me if I was cold and I told her "yes." I figured that she was asking me because it was January in Boston and there was no heat on the room, but yet, there is a space heater right next to the massage bed. Instead of turning on the space heater, the woman asked me what I ate for breakfast and I resonded "pineapple." (I was in a rush to make it to the appointment on time and it was the only thing I had in my fridge). The woman, once again instead of turning on the space heater, stated to me "you are cold because you ate a cold breakfast. You must eat hot breakfast to stay warm." That is new to me... still confused why the space heater was there... Sixth, I like to relax during massages. The woman kept asking me about my job and how stressful it is... for about a good 20minutes.. Seventh, the woman asked me if I still had back pain towards the end of the massage and I resonded, "yes." So the woman, knowing I am a clinician in healthcare, stated "If you still have pain after this massage, then you have internal issues. Kidneys are probably shutting down. You should go get checked out." Hmmm now if you could diagnose kidney failure via therapeutic massage, I think a lot more people would be getting massages for diagnostic reasons. I am an experienced massage receiver, and I agree with Rachel B. This was one of the worse (if not the worst) massages I've ever received. I bought a Groupon for this place and was super-excited because the Yelp reviews were good. My experience was not-so-good. First of all, I was waiting for awhile without anyone taking my paperwork, when the guy from the other massage place (they share an office) went to get the Boston Pain Relief massage guy for me. The man who greeted me had a mouth full of Wendy's and continued chewing this food while he greeted me & took me into the massage room. He didn't seem to speak English, as he introduced himself and didn't speak after that. He gestured to the bed and left the room, not asking me any questions about my areas of pain or the back issue that I had written about on the intake form. I've had many, many massages throughout the years and have always been asked about my expectations, areas of pain, etc. The "massage" I received certainly didn't relieve any of my pain. Similar to what Rachel said, the man rubbed me over the sheet for way too long (very soft, not the deep tissue that the groupon had indicated). The man also left SEVERAL times during the massage (for what, I don't know), and a woman came into the room (without knocking) TWICE! The only time that it made sense that the man left the room was to get the hot stones, but at that point, he SWITCHED places with the woman!!! Who leaves and switches with someone else in the middle of a massage?! I was appalled, but I was also hoping that she would be better. 4 years ago I injured myself and my life has not been the same since. I live in pain on a daily, if not hourly basis ranging from a 2-9 on a scale of 1-10. Nothing has worked. I can't even review the massage services here, because I just had such an unpleasant interaction with the person on the phone that I had to cancel my appointment. I was given a Groupon as a gift, and made an appointment for a few weeks out. I called a week later (still a week before my appointment) and left a message saying I needed to change the appointment date. No one called me back. Two days later I called again asking, again, to change the appointment. The woman on the phone was so rude! She said she can't let me keep changing my appointments, and that maybe I should just call back when I know what I want. I tried to explain that it was the first and only time I was trying to change my appointment, and that since no one had called me back to change it after I left the message I was trying again to make the same change. She argued with me and told me it was impossible to find schedule staff for my massage if I kept changing the appointment like this. I tried again to explain, and she responded rudely saying, among other things, "whatever, I let you talk, let's just get this done". Eventually I told her I wasn't interested in giving her any of my money and just to cancel the appointment all together. My close friend recommended me the place, and I've been twice so far. And I won't stop. I had recently a knee surgery (cracked meniscus), and 5 weeks after a surgery, I got a lot of pain in there because of the formed scar tissue. I came in to see Lucy Lu. My 2nd appt was today. I couldn't believe that my knee was fully bending without any pain at all!! I can stop the PT now, which didn't do anything close to this at all. I feel like in Heaven after it. She definitely knows what points to touch, how to make the energy flow around, and the hot stones at the end are just priceless. If not to get rid of pain, but just to tone yourself - MUST come here! read more

Do not, do not, do not go here. Maybe you can chalk it up to cultural differences, but at the end of the day, you walk out feeling violated and not actually any better from the "massage" they give you. No pain relief whatsoever, just a whole lot of creepy half-assed techniques that are both utterly ineffective and utterly uncomfortable. read more

Lucy Lu is just so sweet and was obviously knowledgable about how to care for my problem areas. I purchased a Groupon and was lucky to get the work done for such a wonderful price. I am a dental hygienist and need to go for my neck, back and hands. Lucy Lu communicated with me throughout the session and really focused on areas that needed attention as well as the rest of my body. The office is very simple so dont expect fancy decor. The idea behind the massage is to help your body and muscle return to and stay in health. This does mean at times it could be uncomfortable but this is necessary to get the knots out etc ( if it is too much pressure just let them know!). I loved her work and truly appreciate what she does. read more

This place is great. I don't know about "everything is state of the art" in the review above but I can say that the therapist I saw, Joe, is highly skilled. I have had many massages to treat a variety of pain and many of them have "hurt" and it felt like they were getting deep into the cuase of the pain but the next day I didn't feel any better. I believe that Joe made real progress, I have some chronic pain that will take a while to fix but after one session I feel looser and more balanced. The office isn't fancy, it's pretty bare bones, but they know what they're doing and the prices are very reasonable. Plus, you can't beat their mission to help their clients "live without pain" -- we take so much pain for granted in modern life, here is a place where they have a different approach - pain is not necessary and with the proper care you can live without chronic pain. read more

Lucy is a miracle worker! I have struggled with lower back pain for almost three years and tried a new mattress, many messages, physical therapy, yoga, and numerous chiropractors with little relief and the pain would always come back. After my first session where Lucy used a cupping technique, I felt like a new person. Now after six sessions I feel like I am able to move about without aches and pains and my quality of life is so much better now that I am pain free. I came in this morning for a combined acupressure and fire cupping session with Dr. Guo Hua Li, aka Tom. It's my first time doing a physical therapy. The reason I wanted to try it was because things have gotten a little out of control lately. I've tried various de-stressing techniques and none of them worked for me. (I'm already eating healthy and workout on a regular basis.) Dr. Li listened to my concerns and was very patient. His skills are top-notch. He really worked hard during the 1 hour session with me. And I felt relieved afterwards. As a matter fact, it's the best I've felt in the longest time. Dr. Li's price is more than reasonable for someone with his background and skills in acupressure massage therapy. I highly recommend him! Brought a group-on for massage- $37. Yes, it is cheap. Easy to make an appointment by phone. Lucy did the massage. She is alright. But I don't think she is putting enough efforts. I mean her attitude. During the session, her phone keeps vibrating. A bit annoying. And during cupping session, she left the room for 10 minutes. For my opinion, she should massage other areas of the body instead of leaving the room. The massage place is ok..not super clean..but at least not dirty. read more

Lucy is absolutely incredible. She is so knowledgable on medical conditions and how to actively treat them with massage therapy. She also takes a real interest in her clients and really listens to their needs and makes them feel comfortable. I'm sure she's great for an overall relaxation massage but specifically if you have an ongoing medical condition (I went to her after my concussion) she is amazing. Today was my first visit with Lucy. I wasn't sure what to expect with acupressure. I was pleasantly surprised. I had been suffering with a sore shoulder and neck for some time. Nothing helped until today. Lucy got my shoulder loosened and the pain is gone. She did a great job and I know I will definitely be going back. read more

My boyfriend and I found this place on Groupon. We called to make an appointment and were told to bring cash to get the same price as the groupon. When we got to the location, there was no sign on the door or the building indicating we were at Boston Pain Relief. We had to call to be let in and the first time we called, no one picked up. Once we got inside we both received a couple's massage. We gave cash for our massage and asked for change back. We were told we would get it after the massage, that never happened. After we got dressed and were about to leave, we were asked if we left a tip for them. It felt very forced to have to give a tip. I would not recommend this massage parlor and would advise to look elsewhere. read more
