Back on Track- Pool Basics: The pool area itself is not handicap accessible so go elsewhere if you can't use stairs. The only entries into the pool are a chair lift and ladders. The pool itself can feel pretty crowded because there are swim lessons and lap swimming happening in the somewhat small pool at the same time. PT Staff: My staff member was late every single time he met with me and he stopped right on time. The staff aren't hands on like Spaulding. They don't get into the pool with you, but instead sit in a chair on the edge of the pool typing notes about you while you're exercising. Awkward. After I went to Spaulding I realized my PT at Back on Track was having me do exercises that weren't right for where I was at. When I got hurt from our third session but I thought it was me, not him. It was him. Facility: The Wellbridge health club is an expensive one, so they do have pretty nice locker rooms and a lot of convenient extras like robes, shampoo etc., tea, mouthwash, hair spray, and hair dryers. The PT room itself is a tiny room with two therapy tables. They have curtains, but it was pretty awkward being evaluated 5 feet from someone else getting treatment. Like I said before, Back On Track Cambridge is really a better fit for someone with a minor injury who is pretty high functioning. I would really recommend anyone who is elderly, deals with chronic pain, or just wants more skilled therapy to go to the Spaulding Charlestown for PT. It is more hands on, the pool is warmer, and it's completely accessible. If you work in Harvard Square and just need something basic that's convenient, try it out here.

After a few months, I decided to check out PT based on a friend's suggestion. My physical therapist, Elyse, was phenomenal. She's knowledgeable and approachable, and was happy to answer the *endless* questions I had about my exercises, how strengthening works, preventative measures, etc. She was incredibly patient with me, working to explain everything because it was essentially my first time doing rigorous exercise, and reassuring me that I would be able to walk and run like normal again! I started out limping and one month later, I was jogging across the room. What I found most helpful at BSM was that Elyse would model the exercises first, correct me as I was doing them, and then emailed me a list of what to do at home. Not only was my PT professional, but she was also kind, warm, and friendly. Our sessions never felt burdensome because we chatted throughout them; Elyse is very good at building rapport! I highly recommend BSM for its great staff and customer service skills, as well as care during COVID. My successful healing definitely wouldn't have been possible without PT and Elyse's encouragement and guidance!

The volume of patients in this practice is far beyond the capacity of the space and the staff. It's not a calming or healing place at all and you will feel like you are just a body part on a conveyor belt. You cannot be confident that your provider will respond to your outreach at all, let alone in a timely manner. So much of recovery is about not just body, but mind and spirit. People have to feel seen, cared for, and humanized in order to heal. This company's business model is fundamentally in conflict with those objectives.

Maegen has helped me through a number of nagging body issues, and now I just keep her bookings page…read morelinked on the home screen of my phone so I can book whenever I'm noticing something about to become a problem. As a forty-something probably-too-sedentary female body owner, it's great that I can talk to Maegen about anything body related. Her office was where I first learned that my knee, hip, and back pain would actually improve if I rolled out my IT band more. I learned that one of the best predictors of falls as people get older is challenges with balance, so we included some exercises for strength and balance to help distribute weight better during movement. My son was also having challenges with pain and fatigue while walking. She worked with him, chatting about Minecraft or whatever he was interested in talking about, and gave us some exercises that are easy for him to do. I haven't heard any more complaints. I also learned that PT in Massachusetts doesn't need a referral, so while her practice doesn't process insurance claims with your insurance company, her documentation is great, and I have had every single claim to my policy that covers out-of-network providers approved on the first try (YMMV based on your insurance). So while I love my PCP, if it's anything remotely muscle or movement related, I just go straight to Maegen. Maegan offers a number of methods, including massage, dry needling, traditional PT, and whatever muscle-whisperer magic she does in between. It's all very easy but works so well. Maegen is super motivating, and Union Square PT is a treasure of Union Square.
