Ok so I had some pretty major injuries after getting runover by a car! Anyway my ankle was MESSED and I didn't even realize it till the percocet wore off a month later. Nothing MRI torn or x-ray broken but unable to walk. Also in the back of my mind I was hoping I was going to be able to ride my bike as soon as possible so I could still be in shape and do some racing in the Fall (injury in March). Well, a friend referred me to see Sara Bresnick, former women's World Cup Mountain Bike Pro. Whether it was Sara's sense of humor or actual skill, I left feeling better after Day 1. Obviously it was a long road going in twice a week for a few months, but I am really happy with the way the PT went and how quickly Sara was able to help me recover and get on my bike so quickly without impairing my recovery time. For a while I was worried I'd never be able to walk without pain again but eventually I was running and hiking again too. Sara was always able to help me find solid appointment times and it was really great to go to a physical therapist who understood that I wanted to be active and athletic again and that healing this to 80% was not okay! Anyway, if you are a serious athlete with an injury I highly recommend Sara Bresnick as someone who can coach you through the recovery process far better than I ever imagined. read more

A part of me wishes I was still experiencing pain in my shoulder and arm, just so I would could keep going here and interacting with the great people at Boston Sports Medicine! I worked mostly with Josef. He is a wonderfully talented, friendly and knowledgeable physical therapist. He not only helped to relive me of the tremendous pain in my shoulder and arm, but also taught me how to correct my lousy posture that was plaguing me for decades. I finally have decent posture thanks to him! That alone has improved my self esteem greatly! He and the other staff members are also great conversationalists. I looked forward to my appointments partly because it was fun to talk about our favorite TV shows and other fun topics while doing the exercises. They have a dry-erase board featuring a handful of daily trivia questions that adds to the conversation. It was great fun working with the others trying to figure out the answers to the questions. It really made the exercise routines fly by. But despite the fun, the exercises were not negatively impacted. I always left feeling I got in a good, hard workout. We still always made sure to push me and my muscles towards my personal goal. Hopefully, I won't get hurt enough to need physical therapy again. But if I do, I'm going straight back to Boston Sports Medicine! read more

I hurt my hip while mountain biking and was experiencing a lot of pain on long rides or intense efforts. I initially went to a PT in Kendall Sq. and, after 3 months of PT for what they diagnosed as a muscle strain, I felt that I had plateaued. I wasn't able to race or ride often and the PT clinic wasn't interested in investigating what else could be wrong. On the recommendation of some other cyclists who had seen Sara Bresnick, I switched over to BSM. After feeling that the PTs at the last clinic were so dismissive, I was relieved that Sara is genuinely invested in figuring out what the problem is and getting me fixed up. She diagnosed that my pelvis is out of alignment, which the previous PT never even checked for, and is likely the root of the ongoing discomfort and pain that I've been experiencing. We have a treatment plan and she is covering all the bases by sending me to an ortho to rule out the possibility of a more severe injury. It's such a relief to feel like I'll be able to ride my bike comfortably again in the near future and it's especially helpful to have a PT who understands and appreciates my goals with riding and racing. read more

I recently completed physical therapy treatment at Boston Sports Medicine in Watertown and would highly recommend their services. This fall, I fractured my shoulder 3 1/2 weeks before an 8 day bike trip in Italy and was desperate to get in shape to ride but was told that I probably couldn't ride since the fracture would take 6 weeks to heal. Fortunately, I found Sara Bresnick at Boston Sports Medicine in Watertown. As a professional cyclist and physical therapist, she knew just what to do to build the strength back in my shoulder. By following Sara's exercise plan, I was able to ride through the hills of Piedmont, Italy, which impressed my doctor. Sara's encouragement was just as important as the physical therapy she performed. I saw this in her interactions with me as well as her other patients. While helping me with my shoulder, she also pinpointed other problems in my neck that were stress related and gave me appropriate exercises. I am still performing my exercises and feel great! If I am in need of physical therapy again, I would go back to Boston Sports Medicine. read more

I live a pretty active lifestyle (tennis, snowboarding, lifting) and as such have had my fair share of injuries. Aside from how friendly and professional he is, Andrew has helped me identify the problem areas of my body, and given me the tools to treat myself in the days when I'm not there. My experience with Dr. Velsmid and his team at Boston Sports Medicine has been nothing short of excellent. I've been working with the physical therapists in the Somerville location (different office of the same business) for about six months as I've recovered from shoulder surgery. From the very beginning the whole team has been friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. By the end of my first visit they had correctly diagnosed my injury (later confirmed as correct) and developed a course of treatment. After surgery, they worked with me step by step through a very successful rehab. I've had treatment at BSM a couple of times over the past year for work-induced RSI problems (elbow and wrist tendonitis). I believe that the treatment I've received here has prevented me from developing worse problems and has allowed me to continue my career as a software developer. The staff is knowledgable, friendly, and accomodating. They also know how to treat the source of the problem rathen than just the symptoms. For example, they recently performed an ergonomic assessment of my workstation and were able to identify the main culprits responsible for my problems. In May 2014, I broke my right foot, and had a difficult recovery. In September 2014 I was referred to BSM for physical therapy. I chose the Watertown location because it's located in the GymIT health club. Justin did my intake review, and Kim was my PT. Both were very capable, caring and attentive. They also worked with my insurance and Worker's Compensation to make sure I got all of the PT I needed to regain strength and full range of motion. I came to BSM after a small shoulder injury. It was a very convenient location for me and their hours allowed me to schedule appointments before or after work. Justin worked with me over a span of 4-5 weeks. He was very personable, professional and an excellent physical therapist! I noticed improvement in my range of motion after my first appointment. My shoulder continued to feel better over the following weeks and after about a month of treatment, it was feeling back to normal! BSM is the best around. I tore my Patella Tendon playing some pickup basketball and had major surgery to have it repaired. Once healthy enough to start PT, I came to BSM and got started. Dr. Brown, was awesome to work with during this process. Honestly the entire staff that I worked with was amazing, and gave top tier service. Having been a recent college football player, I highly recommend BSM to any athlete that's trying to make a come back to their sport! I have been going to BSM to recover from a broken fibula. I The staff has been helpful and knowledgable throughout the whole process. Their hands on work as well as the exercises and stretches have helped me recover quickly. I am so grateful for their help in getting me back on my feet and back in working order. Everytime I came in with an issue they were able to help me. My pain and swelling were significantly reduced and my muscles back to normal strength thanks to their help. I've been going to Boston Sports Medicine for a few months now to rehab my knee/ACL after surgery. My physical therapist is Dave and he's great! He's patient, explains things really well and everyone in the office is friendly and knowledgeable. They also give great tips on the little things that I can do better as I build up my knee strength and get back to "normal:. I got treated here and at their new aquatic therapy center in Allston. My therapist worked at both locations. This nice thing about this place is they have full use of the health club. I was able to do a lot of my therapy on the machines in the club. My therapist taught me how to use the equipment, showed me proper form, and then put me on a program. I was able to kill two birds with one stone. I went to therapy and then got my workout in. I'm in better shape than before I got hurt. Very professional group. Fast and easy. I have a back injury that occasionally flares up and needs therapy. I have been to many PT locations around Boston and so far the Boston Sports Med is the best in the area. My latest PT was with Abigail H. She is impressive in her depth of knowledge and understanding of the best suited exercises based on the body's ability and pain reduction. After almost 6 weeks not only my latest injury is subdued, but a numbness that I have had for past 2 years at the bottom of my left leg has decreased. I can't say enough about Boston Sport's Medicine in Watertown. I went there because of a shoulder injury (dislocated/broken). The therapists (especially Justin W. and Kim M.) are not only professional in every respect of the word, but they have great upbeat personalities. They push me enough where I see results, but I never feel like they give me more than I can handle. I've been going to BSM Watertown for almost 3 months, following a motorcycle accident that left me with several injuries. I highly recommend this or any of their other locations. I've come to her for treatment of both an twisted ankle injury (completely torn anterior talofibular ligament) and treatment of a pinched nerve in my leg. Working with her, I've been able to regain stability and feeling from each of my respective injuries. Sara is unique in her ability to aggressively treat athletes or people with very active lifestyles, and as a cyclist I trust her for all my training injuries. She is professional, easy to talk to, and ultimately helped me regain the strength that I had lost. Not only strength but confidence as well. It's so awesome to work with a physical therapist who understands competitive athletes. Last summer, I crashed hard at a track bike racing clinic right before I was scheduled to start training for my cyclocross racing season; the crash screwed up my back and made cycling--particularly, intense efforts--really painful.
