Big portions and delicious chicken shawarma! Fresh fries and thick with a great crisp!

I came not expecting much, and was ultimately let down. However, when I first entered the establishment I thought my initial prejudice based on these reviews and talking with other foodies were unnecessarily harsh as the meat on the spits in the back looked amazing, and so did the meat pies at the front. However, the shawarma wrap that I got was dry and the vegetables were as cheap and flavorless as could be. It seems like the place has all the ingredients for yummy food, except perhaps TLC? I skipped on the meat pie as I was too disappointed with the sandwich. I would be open to check them out again in the future, perhaps as a to-go item, in case the next one turned out to be too dry again, so I could douse it with some homemade sauces. That said, the place is definitely better than many other shawarma places in the area, but not nearly as good as others. read more

Excellent falafel wrap with avocado, hummus and tahini. Gigantic sandwich with a drink for $7.99 a piece. Probably my 2nd favorite falafel wrap in Metro Boston with Falafel Corner in Cambridge as number one and based on falafel, behind Adea's in Salem. Really nice staff, made quickly, great tasting tahini. Had no problem with meter parking out front. Would definitely eat here again if in the area. Primarily a takeout restaurant, but seats are available. Not far from Northeastern and the MFA. read more

This place used to be quite good a few years back but now their food quality is pretty much the dumps now. The chicken shawarma is just chicken pieces in some sauce stuffed into a dry pita. There's zero crunch to the chicken (and zero taste). Fries are soggy. Overall, a pretty sad turn of events for this place. read more

Came here looking for a decent shawarma place nearby work. Unfortunately this did not fit the bill. I got the chicken shawarma plate and found it to be quite underwhelming. The rice and falafel was rather dry, the salad was pretty wilted and the fries were soggy. Easy to say, it was quite disappointing. The chicken itself was average at best, it didn't have much juiciness or flavor beyond the onions that were mixed with it. The sauces (the spicy and the hummus) were probably the most flavorful things from this plate. I would probably not come back unless I had a craving for lamb shawarma, as it seems to be a recommended dish here, but that would be if I really couldn't resist or was bored with the other options. I can see it being a good place for the hungry college student who can't really go too far elsewhere to find better options for shawarma, but if you are looking for one of the better options in Boston, this wouldn't even be a consideration. I got a chicken and a beef (now wishing I had given the lamb a try instead) for me and my wife. They were both several kinds of bland and unappetizing. The sauce had no flavor. The meat had no flavor. What's the opposite of Flavortown? Because that's where these wraps were from. You know how sometimes you're at the airport, and you're famished, so you end up paying $9 at one of those restaurants that you can't be sure will be terrible or not? Like, you know they're trying to be a generic version of Panera Bread or something, and the menu has a little bit of everything, but with an up-charge. And you decide to try the grilled chicken wrap because you think, "Hey, it's a grilled chicken wrap, how badly can they screw it up?" But then you get the wrap, and you realize they managed to screw it up pretty badly. But you paid $9 for it, so you force yourself to eat it, because there's some poor kid in a third-world country that would kill for this crappy wrap. Well, Boston Shawarma's food made me want one of those airport restaurant wraps. I know this sounds like an exaggeration, but the chicken had like a... shredded rotisserie chicken quality to it, but with none of the rotisserie flavor. Or any flavor. We ended up throwing both the wraps away, because screw the third-world kids, these wraps were not worth finishing. Even four days after I eating it, I'm still sad that Boston Shawarma took up precious stomach real estate; we only had 3.5 days in Boston, and there were so many other things on my bookmarks that would have been better. I could have shoved in a couple more lobster rolls in place of the half-wrap that I ate. A part of me wonders, maybe we got the wrong thing from the menu? And that's certainly possible, but I'm not willing to give it another shot when there are so many other amazing restaurants in town. I'm gonna give this place the benefit of the doubt but about 5 minutes after eating their Chicken Schwarma, I felt sick to my stomach. It could've been something else I ate, but i'm leaning more toward what I just ate (the schwarm) The shawarma was pretty good, nothing spectacular. Good flavor and sauce. I had a gripe with the amount of potato in it, like large chunks that pretty much overtook the sandwich flavor. Hot sauce was more tangy than spicy. Service was friendly and pretty quick. Good place to curb your craving for schwarma but it definitely did not blow me away. 3/5 don't see the hype read more

I've been coming here semi-regularly for years - tonight was the last time. It's been going downhill for quite a while, but it used to be one of the better options in an area with a lot of dubious food. Now that the platters are pushing $20 with tax and modest tip, it's just too mediocre. I understand that costs are up for restaurants, but at that price, they need to put more effort into the food, not to mention the environment which is cramped, awkward and not clean enough. Tiny hole in the wall, but the shawarma and falafels are first-rate! Good flavors, generous proportions, and very affordable: lunch combos of your choice of sandwich or platter, plus a soft drink, for $7.95 make it a decent cheap (and good) eats. Seating is limited, so most of the traffic is take-out but at these prices and quality, we can afford to wait a few minutes. Service is brisk and efficient. read more

My experience here was disappointing. I ordered my food to go, a chicken plate and a side of falafel. I'm sad to say the food didn't really have much flavor, it was all just bland. The chicken was overcooked, and the fries were just meh. I appreciated the serving size though, which was generous, but when the food tasted the way it did, I could not enjoy my meal. What prevents me from trying this place again was the tahini sauce. It had tasted like it had gone off, given my stomach of steel I tried it a few times just to make sure, and I did feel uneasy afterwards. My girlfriend unfortunately, had some as well and resulted in a very upset stomach the next day, I felt so bad. read more

I used online takeout order (Grubhub) since we had very small lunch break time. I made food order around 11am and pick up time was 1pm and I got there 12:58pm. Food wasn't ready. Friend of mine who came here and ordered his food after I arrived, left before I did. My food finally packed and ready to go at 1:10pm. This was my first time to use Grubhub so I am not sure if this is normal. I like this place and I come here quite often. Boston Shawarma is your basic hole in the wall. What I love about yelp is that it doesn't matter where you are, or how small your restaurant is, you will be found. I am pretty sure the nearby Northeastern students have been frequenting this stop for years, but its new to me. Is it the best Shawarma I've ever had? Not really, but it is definitely great value for your money. The Shawarma sandwiches are a hearty size and are prepared in a flash. Not authentic beef or lamb shawarma. It's ultra processed gyro meat you get at a Greek diner. Nothing authentic about it besides turnips and the bread. The falafel is so-so. Chicken shawarma looks okay. This is geared towards post drinking college nights, so this would definitely hit the spot at 1am, but not 1pm :( read more

Best Shawarma I have had with HUGE portions. My co-worker and I went to lunch today and it was delicious. I got the Chicken Shawarma dinner which comes with fries, rice, salad, falafel, hummus etc. (I had to bring half of it back with me.) Plus I got a Spinach and Feta Pie which was so yummy. My co-worker got a Balaclava which was insanely good and a Chicken Shawarma sandwich which was HUGE. The portions are HUGE, the food is incredible.Definitely will be back. read more

Quantity over quality. I once spent every weekday lunch during a 2-month period sampling a different chicken and rice vendor. Add to that a myriad of experiences with shawarma and other such dishes, and one might call me a pro. With a fixin' for a nice platter in a city that is not exactly known for this type of food, Boston Shawarma provided a ray hope. This was, unfortunately, mostly that - hope. My first time here, I had the chicken and lamb platter. It was expensive (almost $11), but I was pleased with the weight of my treasure chest that was the Styrofoam container. Within, there was an ample supply of chicken and lamb, accompanied with rice, hummus, hot sauce, salad and a side of pita. The chicken and lamb looked a little dry, and tasted similarly. Flavor was lacking, and was mostly obtained from the hot sauce. The hummus, however, was more than just a surprise addition, as it tasted delicious and complemented the meat. My second visit had me once more try the chicken and lamb platter, but I also had their lamb pie for $3.50. This time, I did not make the mistake of forgetting to request "no salad". They happily obliged and filled the space with fried. Unfortunately, the story of the meat remained unchanged - relatively dry and bland. The lamb pie fared no better, being substantial in quantity but not quality. Overall, this is the type of venue that would best be frequented late at night when a voracious appetite requires settling - preferably while under the influence of something that makes anything exceptionally good. The platters are large (and expensive) enough to be split into two meals each, but the food is not good enough to bring this writer back for another round of unrealized dreams. We were looking for a casual place to grab a quick bite after visiting the Gardner Museum and Northeastern. Went to Yelp, and found Boston Shawarma. It is a hole in the wall with a small dining area. I ordered a chicken shawarma and hubby had the beef. The meats were lightly seasoned and tasty, but nothing to rave about. I came here with a couple of friends for lunch and we were not disappointed. I got two lamb pies and a beef patty. The beef patty was alright, but the lamb pie was to die for! I don't know how long they keep their food on display, but they warmed it up for me and it tasted like it was just taken out the oven -- so fresh, so delicious. It was seasoned just right so it wasn't too spicy, but it wasn't too bland. Two of friends both opted for the chicken shawarma, and I can attest to the deliciousness of this as well. One got it spicy and the other did not, either way they were both great and full of flavor (although if you do not life spicy hot food do not order yours spicy). Next time I come here I am going to order the chicken shawarma and lamb pie. The restaurant is quite quaint, no frills about it just good food. So I you're searching for a place that serves great halal meat, look no further. I only wish that this place was closer to where I am, but then again I would go broke from how frequently I visited them. read more

This was one of those meals in which each dish starts out impressive but gets worse with each bite. The falafels had a nice balance of flavors, but I kept wishing they were crispier and less spongy and dense. The rice was flavorful, but also kinda clumpy. The salad dressing was tasty, but the greens themselves were lifelessly wilted. Most perplexingly, the baba ganoush was absolutely flavorless. I never knew baba ganoush, one of the most delectably complex dishes in the world, could even *be* so flavorless. It didn't even taste like eggplant! It was just a bland, slightly salty, homogeneous white goop. The only thing I had no reservations about were the fries, which were delicious and reasonably crispy. The person who took my order was pretty rude too--curt, with a sour, impatient expression despite there being no one else waiting in line, and they didn't acknowledge my "thank you, have a nice night!" with even a nod. Unless you're craving some decent french fries, Boston Shawarma doesn't have much to offer. read more
