My most recent garden problem was finding a nicely shredded mulch that didn't leave behind big chunks at the end of each growing season. Lavocat's to the rescue! They have a wonderful hardwood fine-shredded mulch that's just perfect. If you're like me, and have a smaller garden - bagged mulch is what we need - whole truck loads just don't work. The knowledgeable and very helpful staff at Lavocat's will load your vehicle and you'll be very pleased with the results in your garden.

We went to this nursery last May and bought a bunch of outdoor shrubs/bushes: 6 rhododendrons & 2 roses - spent almost $700 in total! Unfortunately, ALL 6 rhodies died by mid-Fall, and one of the roses didn't make it through the winter. We went back to Urban Roots, bringing receipts + pictures of the dead plants, still in their mulched beds next to healthy others. It was then we first learned that Urban Roots does not guarantee any of their plants, even $69 Rhododendron! This is surprising since most or all nurseries I've been to provide at least 1 year's worth, it's notable that I've only used once in 50+ years! Anyway, selection was solid with all the expected types, and the initial experience was fine. Just beware "PRODUCTS ARE SOLD AS IS!"

There is a large outdoor section too that opens up mid- to late April, depending on weather (not open yet for spring 2025 as of April 19th but will be soon). Outdoors they have trees, shrubs, perennials, bags of soil, and a nice selection of pots. During the winter they mostly have indoor plants and houseplants, so if you need your gardening fix when it's cold out, you can probably find what you're looking for here. The plants all look happy and well cared for. This community garden center is a co-op full of passionate people who truly care about the place and the plants, and it shows. You do not need to be a co-op member to shop there, but it supports the organization so if you end up becoming a regular it is well worth considering. The person I talked to here has worked there for 15+ years and was friendly and very knowledgeable. This is not like the high turnover big-box stores where the staff does not actually care about your garden success.

Marc was no where to be found for both snow events and would not answer any calls or text messages. On 1-19-22 Marc called and did say he was sick, apologized and said he'd give a partial refund. No refund was ever received. He did show up on 1-23-22 to plow a 3" snow fall, but then again we get 10" on 2-4-22 and he's nowhere to be found and once again won't answer his phone or texts. Avoid this company/Marc Maniccia and or his business partners.

We met we talked, he came out and gave a quote, we chatted about family and he seemed like a respectable, responsible business owner. He has his BBB accreditation and he seemed quite proud of his work and his team. But when it came down to doing the work ... he blew it off, rescheduled and just simply did not show up. I was so impressed with his character I reached out to a family member who was in need of roof worked and he immediately jumped in and wanted to get the job as well I was recommending him. Yet, his failure to come through on my job left me leery about him following through on this other job. I had to ultimately share with the person what my experience was and advise them to go with the person they were considering initially.... as I did not want to be responsible for someone being stiffed. I firmly believe in supporting small business and helping others along the way. I had work done in my yard by Redefine Landscaping (doing business as KD Landscape) late June 2024…read more Aside from the 40% of shrubs bushes and trees that died that year, they installed a large amount of perimeter vinyl fencing that was not installed properly and had tipped over and 7 panels blew out over the course of 2024 winter and ensuing 2025 winter leaving me to call them to make repairs. Redefine/KD Landscape did come out 4 separate times to attempt to repair but each time proved to be a failure. Fence posts snapped and broke along with panels that blew out. I hired a new company to replace the fence, J.D. Brick who felt the fence was not installed properly and was substandard materials. No reinforcing screws were place along the horizontal struts of the fence and many posts were swaying and loose. I have spent an additional $12K to replace parts of the fence. The total costs of the original fence by KD Landscape was $17K. Please see pictures attached. I could not find the original signed contract but did find a draft contract that we used ultimately for the job.
