I've been in to this place three times so far, all for breaking a spoke at Tracy Owens Park (I swear, that place is cursed). All three times their mechanics have repaired my spokes, one time giving me good advice to replace all the drive side spokes after throwing the chain to stop me from having to replace them one by one. The part-owner (John?) is a pretty nice guy. Their mechanics have been more than helpful and very friendly, and their selection of bikes is pretty awesome. I got a chuckle out of the part-owner's rain bike being a Wilier (more expensive than anything I can afford to ride). Normally I would give a 5 star rating for such an experience thus far, but every time I've had a spoke repaired there, the spoke unwinds and undoes itself in 2-3 weeks (if you know anything about wheelbuilding, one of the fastest ways to have a spoke break is an improperly tensioned spoke). This doesn't happen when my normal LBS looks at my wheels, or builds them. That's my only gripe. Customer service: 5 Mechanic expertise: 3 Speed and accuracy of work: 3. First question I asked when I walked in. "Do you offer lay away?" They said yes. I tried out two bikes. Within fifteen minutes was ready to make a deal. The manager came out to set up lay away ...and in so many words told it's not worth his time to do lay away and come back when I have all the money. I could of paid for it that day, 2 weeks would have been much more comfortable. The individual who showed me the bike was excellent. I went there to rent a bike. It was gosh expensive. $25 for a day where you get a cheap comfort bike ($350). Can you imagine paying almost 10% of the vehicle's price as rent for one day. I cant. Otherwise it looked pretty good. read more

BB&S never disappoints. I have purchased 3 bikes from them over the past 2 years and the service is always over the top. I stop in every 3 months or so to get something checked out, and they consistently drop everything to help me out. They charge minimum shop charges for all of these quick fixes, and that keeps me coming back. Their sales staff has always been super helpful. I have tried other shops like Bicycle Centres, and they refuse to help people out on the spot. Kudos to the management and staff at BB&S. Don't forget to tip your tech! read more

This is a 2.5/3 rating because the mechanics are knowledgable and good to work with. I recently purchased a Thomson dropper post ($500) from them on special order for my all mountain bike. They were nice enough to offer to throw it on my bike while I was there, which I took them up on. When putting the bike on the stand they noticed my carbon frame was horribly cracked and that the bike was un-rideable. I left the shop with my un-rideable bike and a $500 dropper post that I couldn't use. It dawned on me the next day to call, plead my case and see about a refund. Typically a shop will charge a re-stocking fee and accommodate a return under these circumstances. Not Bothell Ski and Bike apparently. I was told store credit was the most they can do, expressed their condolences for my bike and that I might try selling it on EBay. REALLY? In the end I'm using that credit on a few upgraded parts for the bike I just purchased at Kirkland Bicycle, so thanks for the credit guys. read more

My dad bought me a bike from here about 3 years ago. We had a positive experience with the purchase, although it did take quite awhile to get the fenders and such installed, but everything else was awesome. Anyway, sadly, my bike was stolen. I'm not a huge bike person, I just knew I had a yellow bike... anyway I called the store, and within less than 5 minutes were able to email me a copy of my receipt, which should be a huge help when filing a police report and our renters insurance. I'm sure I'll never see the bike again :( but Bothell Ski and Bike gets 5 stars from me. read more

These guys are super friendly, they helped me out when I was in a jam lending me tools and sharing tips on some mid-ride repairs that I needed to make the journey home. If you find yourself stuck up the Burke Gilman without a pedal, they'll help you out and then some. Only knocking off a star for being expensive, a pair of tubes ended up being $17 dollars which is $7 more than what my usual stop Recycled charges. read more

My bike was stolen during a burglary at my house. Luckily my home owner's policy covered it. If you see a blue and silver LeMond Versailles with Campy wheels and a red and black rear tire, let me know. I did a ton of shopping to find a replacement and found Bothell Ski and Bike had a few that were in my price range with the components I wanted. I talked with the sales folks and they set me up for a ride on 3 different bikes. This is a great store to buy a bike since the location is right across the street from the Burke. You can test ride the bikes on the flats, downhill and up hill to make sure the bike is comfortable. After my test rides I made my decision and bought a great BH. The sales team is great! They are really low key and want to make sure you get the right bike. The inventory was a little low since it was after Christmas, plus most people buy their bikes in the spring. I gave them 4 stars since 5 stars in my book is nearly unattainable. Maybe if they had free espresso and gave me a free cycling jersey they could get a 5 star rating. I highly recommend this shop if you are looking for a better quality bike. read more

New location is excellent and the staff is super helpful. Appears they have a massive rental fleet, large service team and are strategically located just off the Burke-Gilman Trail at the east side of Kenmore. Vestibule on west side of shop has an automatic door which is really nice so one doesn't bash their bike on the door jamb. Appreciated recommendation on new tires both over the phone and in person when I walked in to the shop. Staff I interacted with was knowledgeable and friendly, even showing an interesting but obscure tread-wear feature on the race tires I ended up buying. Not sure how the tires will work but I'll let you know in a several hundred miles. Current road construction project makes getting to the store from the trail a bit sketchy as the sidewalk isn't paved and traffic on Bothell Way is moves quickly. That being said, it is nice to have a shop in Kenmore that is just across the street from the BGT. I hope and trust this bike shop will substantially outlive the myriad of restaurants that have failed in this same space over the past decade (it may have already outlived several of them). read more

I can't figure out why these guys are at 3.5. After visiting 5 shops in the Seattle/Issaquah area... I'm from Vermont/ California and it's the first real bike shop in my opinion. Full suspension xc, enduro/ trailbikes, hardtail, road, and commuter bikes. Wheelsets and components...black Sabbath on the radio. Customer service as soon as we walked in and a BMX racer that knew wtf he was doing and saying while giving us advice and working on our rigs. Out of there with bars stem and some dropper post work in under an hour. We found our shop!! read more

2nd effin' flat this week. Really??? I mean really? Turns out I had the tiniest wee piece of glass embedded in my rear tire that I didn't find when changing the damn thing only two days. The shop is located downstairs from the store. Down carpeted stairs...which by the way in cleats...not so easy. I fell - nice. Was given a verbal estimate of $160 how to replace front and rear tire. Bought a gift card for $160 to give to my girlfriend who then brought the bike in. She was given a verbal estimate that it would be $200 went to pick up the bike the bill was $300 this is for a bike that originally cost $295 was not happy with this asked the owner to refund the $160 and give us the frame back he said he would call the police he also said he was unwilling to refund the gift card owner was rude and belligerent but that's beside the point. I I told him I'd be posting on Yelp and everywhere else I can think of he said be careful as he would sue me. A friend and I were riding the Burke-Gilman today and had some chain trouble (that would have ended the ride). Not only is this shop conveniently along the trail in the Kenmore area, despite being fairly busy they were nice enough to fix the chain within a couple minutes! My family is visiting this weekend from Florida and we had the best experience renting bikes from Bothell Ski and Bike. The bikes were easy to ride and access to the Burke Gilman trail is great. This was a really hot weekend and my mother was struggling and not sure she could make it back after riding out to Woodinville. Example: I showed up a few minutes after they closed one evening and they let me in without skipping a beat and were very accommodating. Failed to meet time commitment on when my bike would be ready. Absolutely no concern towards customer service and the rudest communication of any retail business I have ever encountered (co-owner John Ethan, specifically). Service department overcommits and pushes out schedule for customers in the service queue (John mentioned he had 150 bikes in for service at the same time!). I wouldn't buy a bike here if you want timely service, or a pleasant customer experience. This started with a oem recall of a fork on my Kona process. After contacting SRAM (who directed me to any licensed retailer) I contacted Bothell Ski and Bike by phone. I informed them I didn't buy my bike from them (was purchased out of state previously) but they said they would swap out the fork per instructions from SRAM. A week after dropping the bike off, I contacted John who said he would contact SRAM for status (who were rebuilding the fork), but then completely dropped the ball and forgot to call, but eventually did and obtained expected delivery dates of the rebuilt fork. At this point John said they would be able to install the fork within one day after receiving back from SRAM. Three days after John received the fork from SRAM I called him again and he hadn't starting working on it. When I asked for an updated ETA he couldn't provide one (despite promising a one day turn-around previously). Since this was a warranty job and I didn't buy the bike from him I offered to pay for the service, in case this was the reason I wasn't being given any priority. But the options John gave me were 1) wait indefinitely for them to get around to it, or 2) come in a pick up my bike in pieces. Initially I chose option 1), but afterwards I called around and found a nearby shop who were quoting 2-3 weeks out for service, but could install my fork in one day since it was a "simple job" (that is better customer service). So I went for option 2) and literally picked up my bike from the shop in pieces. Over this period I talked to John a handful of times and every time he was extremely rude , unaccommodating and unwilling to make any concession or compromise to keep my business. I told him this would cause him complete loss of my business and he simply didn't care. I wouldn't go near this place to buy a bike if you care about timely service down the road. In reply to the owners comment below, I went back in to the shop immediately after loading my bike to ask if there was any paperwork from SRAM in regards to the warranty recall and the new serial number on the fork (and not to cause a scene). I'm sure the security cameras show me patiently and quietly waiting for him to finish with other customers before asking for this paperwork. And there was no tirade in the parking lot...I simply said "Hey" to the sales rep as I left. John is simply trying to paint me as a bad guy in order to save face in light of a bad review :( read more

Rode the 2017 RSVP - went into get some bike shorts and nuun. It was 15 minutes before closing and they could not have been less interested in help us than someone who did not work there. All the bikes were in for the night so had to go through the woods and across the river to get to the bike shorts. Shorts were 1/2 off which was nice which we found out at check out. Their packets of Hammer Recoverite were expired - oh well - they probably need to have a sale. Had a friend who bought a bike here so if you spending big money they are more than happy to help you. This was a shop supposedly knowledgeable and identified as a prime Pivot dealer and mechanic. I talked to someone on the phone and he said all the right things and convinced me they were solid, so I drove my Mach 5.5 from Seattle to Bothell during rush hour. I suspected shock issues and it wasn't seeming to hold air. The shock was under warranty, and the great shop in Portland where I purchased the bike tipped me off that there was a run of Pivots with the X2 shock that had known issues, and lets be clear, I do not run my bike hard - it was in great shape and I had done nothing in the 8 months I had the bike to compromise the shock. But, once in the shop, the mechanics insisted that I needed an entire rebuild of both front and rear shock and that they were not aware of any shock issues with Pivots and were not willing to check with Pivot - there were no in between options for suspension service like many other shops who offer a 50 hour or 100 hour service. $300 later..... my bike was a lot cleaner and was done a day or two before the promised date, which was a plus, but the rear suspension is the same and still seems to leak air. To top off the experience, when I asked for guidance on setting the high/low compression rebound, but was told to go ride hot laps (pretty sure that is bike mic speak for "pound sand"). I've gone to Bothell Ski and Bike in the past for non-suspension related bike needs, and they were great. I really wanted to give a glowing review for my hometown bike shop for my full suspension bike service, but I just walked away from the experience feeling fleeced. read more

I needed a Park Tool nut and a chain whip to remove my cassette.  I decided to get the chain whip online but the nut I would source locally to make sure it fit.  I called Bothell Ski & Bike and they said they have them but when I got there the only one for my bike was one they had been using in their shop for years.  It had tool marks all over it but they offered it to me at $7, half off retail price of $15 they said. It looked like it still worked fine. Once I got home I checked online and a brand new one from REI (always pricey) was listed at $8.50.  So they lied to me.  The knowledgeable tried to deceive the unsuspecting.  So insulting. I rode back a couple of hours later to return it with receipt and get my money back. The owner came out and looked at the tool and receipt  said, "So you used it and now you want to return it."  I guess he thought I was some POS. Another insult. (When you are a POS you think everyone else is)  I explained, "All those tool marks are from your shop. I didn't use it.  And the reason I am returning it, is because your guy sold me this for $7.00, saying new ones are $15.00." "If he was honest about the retail price and sold it to me for half I would be fine...but he lied" Then he credited my card, and said I'm sure it was an honest mistake  hope I'd come back in the next time I need something."  Right.  Because I alway give people multiple chances to insult me. Final insult. I called twice before, once to find out how much to change a spoke. " Yikes!" "How much if I just buy the spoke?" He said like $10.00.  I know it should be around $3.50 but he said I should consider his time and expertise...LOL! I called to see if they had a new tire for my bike.  Gave them the measurements.  They said "No but they had another size that should work fine". Really?  Would any of those cycling enthusiasts just put some "Fits good enough" tire on their bike? Anything for a sale. Save yourself... The culture here is to rip off the customer at every turn. So, this place is close to my house and I keep trying to give it a shot. I can't complain about the workmanship, but I absolutely dread walking in here. I feel like it's junior high again walking into a room full of the mean cool kids when I don't belong. I've experienced a lot of sighs, eye rolls, and condescending tones when talking about my bike. I get it, I don't know a lot about bikes, except how to ride them! But, if I did, I would not need their services. I'm parting with my hard earned money for them to fix my bike, not be treated like an idiot. At first I thought I was just being paranoid, but then I have read several other similar reviews. While the bike shop I have chosen to start using is about five miles further, they are attentive, answer my "stupid" questions and take me seriously (or at least act it enough for my benefit!) I shouldn't fear walking into a business that I am giving my money to. So... like I said, work is done just fine, but they're slow, not communicative, and don't treat their customer's nicely. I'm sitting here now waiting for my bike that I dropped off at a different bike shop that they are going to fix in a couple hours, I usually end up leaving it at Bothell Ski and Bike for days. read more

I've visited Bothell Ski & Bike twice in the last few weeks, both for minor repair/adjustment. Alex took care of the fix on my first visit; Ryan the adjustment on my second. They were both friendly, courteous and professional. I didn't see any sign of negative attitudes directed towards newbies some other posters have mentioned. Because I felt like taking a tour of the Sammamish River Trail, but was too lazy to pack my own bike, I decided to rent at this place. The service seemed pretty good, and they're really trustworthy; they gave us bikes without taking down our credit card. However, the bikes themselves left something to be desired. They were Townie bikes, which are 3-speed comfort bikes, fairly bumpy, and didn't go very fast. They definitely weren't ideal, but the shop's right across the street from the trail. If you want a better deal, I'd suggest going to Play it Again Sports, which is a short 3-minute walk from the trail, where you get a MUCH nicer bike and a better deal. read more

Before today, the times that I have been in have netted me an overall positive experience. And you know what they say "it only takes once". Today was that day. Upon the recommendation of their staff, I had purchased a couple items related to the tires on my bike. Well, I attempted to get use of the products that they recommended and the stuff didn't work as advertised. I'm thinking "Oh well, I'll just return it and get the $20 back". Yeah right! They said that their policy is not to accept used parts on return. So the tubeless slime garbage that they recommended didn't work and they in return offered to do the set up for me. Too late for that, I had already installed a tube and called it good. I am in no way their biggest customer, but they are close to my house and I like to support the local guys whenever I need some stuff, so I thought they would be a little more amiable to the return. I asked the twerp at the counter if it was worth the $20 for them to lose me as a customer, and he re-stated their policy and again offered to remedy the problem that I had already remedied with a tube. Oh well, I hope that $20 was worth it - it's the last you'll ever get from me. I'll just drive 5 more minutes to Woodinville Bicycle where I have always felt appreciated. read more

Went in to get fitted for a bike, and was approached by a very arrogant man named John who simply brought out a bike and said this is the bike for you! I said I was interested in getting fitted for a bike and he said, You're about a 56 or so. Again I asked if I could be fitted since the bike he brought out was a medium and I know I take a small frame from other bikes I've tried. I waited while he helped a woman at checkout and then a man came in and he said I'll be with you in a second sir, as soon as I wait on this lady, pointing to me. After the other woman paid, he immediately helped the other man. I just walked out. Sadly, lost a customer that drives by frequently but I'll go to another shop gladly. Rude! read more

They did so I figured I would give them a shot despite they are not a snowboard shop. Needless to say don't take your snowboard to a non snowboard shop. read more

I used to really like this place - the mechanics have been very helpful in the past, so when I wanted new tires and a tune-up for my touring bike, I came here. When I picked up my bike, they didn't have my old tires (which I wanted for my trainer). They were great about it though, and gave two other used tires and a $30 credit. If the story ended here, then I would have given them 4 stars. But then I brought my road bike and my husband's bike in for tune-ups and new chains. When I picked them up, it was obvious that no one had touched my bike. A nice mechanic quickly put on a new chain, said everything else was fine, and sent me on my way. Two screw-ups in a row, and I am not ready to come back here so quickly. Except I still have a $30 credit to use (they forgot about it and when I reminded them, I was given a gift card rather than taking it off my bill). read more

I paid them to mold my ski boots to my feet and they broke my one of my boots. They ordered the part they broke but they said it wouldn't get here until spring. I didn't get a refund. And for the rest of the season they said just just put a piece of tape on it. Not satisfied at all! And not coming back! read more
