Chicken Pesto Sandwich
Nergis D.

I got the chicken pesto sandwich and clam chowder. The chicken pesto was really delicious. The pesto sauce was light (which I love), and all the flavors were well balanced. The clam chowder is the BEST!

Zero people at Boudin care about the service, and what's why it's dog poop!

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write this review! I'm pretty sure their new competition moving in reminded me of just how terrible this place is despite living less than 2 miles away. The customer service is consistently horrendous. The staff refuses make eye contact with guests, won't acknowledge people, scoff in disgust at outlandish questions like "can I have a napkin"? And our order is frequently wrong or missing items. It's been a while since the most egregious incident that no management ever cared to follow up on, so time to write it in stone on the internet! I placed a mobile order and go to pick it up and it's sitting right there. There is a sign that tells you not to take bags; you have to wait for the expeditor or counter person to help you... but they refuse to look at you! The counter gal helped a few guests and then just turned her back to the restaurant and started faux tidying of the bread shelves. Expeditor won't look at me either. I stand there for several minutes. Everyone else has been helped. I finally say something about it and politely suggest they need to find better systems for expediting orders if they aren't going to let guests get their prepared order and start to leave. At that point, some snotty teenager shouts "well then maybe you just shouldn't come back!" UHHH, EXCUSE ME!?! Turn around to confront that disgraceful service and she ran away. Called store and corporate management about the incident and they never contacted me! Apparently they don't want my business anymore! After numerous visits and having issues almost every single time, I will never, ever patron this business again!

Chicken walnut salad

I get salads from this location every week. Usually they are okay. Today the salads I received were not anywhere near the usual size or quality. There was half the normal amount of lettuce and less chicken, apples and walnuts. This is the third time that this has happened. The salad usually is close to filling up the to-go box. Today it was close to only being half full. For the price that they charge, I did not get my money's worth. If you get food to-go from this location make sure to check your order closely before leaving. This issue appears to be happening more frequently here. It's too bad. I really like the food here but the quality and inconsistency of what is being distributed for take out is really frustrating and disappointing. The sandwiches are great. I've never had a problem with them. Unfortunately however, I don't think I will be returning to purchase any salads from this location anymore. I've been disappointed too many times.

Excellent service and delicious customer service I loved the same food as that of San Francisco, I recommend 10/10

Options for kids

Boudin is always a great choice when we're out with the kids! They have kid-friendly options, so everyone can find something they like. The restaurant is consistently clean, which I really appreciate, and the service is always quick and efficient--perfect when you're dining with little ones.

Sausage & pepperoni pizza with small strawberry shake

First time to this Boudin SF location in all my time living in Santa Rosa. The traffic in the mall location can be a deterrent. Service was quick and welcoming. I ordered the sausage pepperoni pizza minus the onions and peppers, a small strawberry shake, and a mini banana chocolate chip loaf. The shake was a bit pricey for a 12 oz cup (I'm sure it's on par with any other restaurant)but it was legitimately good and not your typical fast food machine dispensed shakes with fake ingredients and chemicals. It was smooth, creamy and had a great strawberry flavor. The pizza was loaded with pepperoni and sausage (maybe a bit too much sausage) but was well enjoyed. The mini loaf was delish. I did devour upon sitting down and before my meal arrived..oops! Dining room and beverage counter was kept clean with ample seating.

Glad Boudin open store in Santa Rosa. Another great place for lunch and bread. Always order a loaf to take home. Toast it or just eat it, always Super Good

Plastic in my sandwich

Ordered delivery, and everything was ice cold, as if it was pulled from a refrigerator and placed in the bag. Additionally, the sandwich contained plastic. Out $30 for a half sandwich and side of Mac and cheese. Won't be back.

I have been here a handful of times over the years that they have been on Midway Dr. I come here once in awhile to also pick up my free loaf of bread! Yesterday, I did Grubhub and enjoyed the fact that the big paperbag had a seal so you know the driver did not tamper with your food. I ordered a mixed green salad, clam chowder (without bread bowl) and a lemon tart. Excellent food and good portions. Their clam chowder is seriously the best!! So warm and creamy and reminds me of eating it at Fisherman's Wharf. The salad was large and delicious but not enough sauce. Need 2 sauce for 1 salad, too many leafy greens! The lemon tart for dessert was perfect sweetness. Of course, they threw in their famous sourdough bread. It smells so good, my cat got to it before me!! He pulled it out of the bag and started chomping on it HAHA Will order again. Just good, fresh, food that reminds you of a foggy, salty air Bay Area day..

I been here many many times because service is always good & the food is great so it's an easy choice if you're not sure and don't want to be disappointed. Plus a free monthly loaf of sourdough is always a welcoming bonus! Asian Chicken salad is one of my usual salad picks its colorful, tastes fresh & very flavorful! The rustic turkey cranberry Sando on stuffing cranberry bread was spectacular the sandwich really tasted like a day after thanksgiving sando it was incredibly delicious just perfect! My hubby had the jalapeño bread melt and loved it

"Pick a pair" - Clam Chowder in a bread bowl and French dip sandwich
Maxim S.

Went here with my dad when we were in Santa Rosa. When we went inside we ordered at the Kiosk but when we tried to pay with a gift card, it wouldn't work so we ended up having to reorder at the register. Maybe if we paid with card it would have been fine. I ordered a "pick a pair" with clam chowder soup in a bread bowl and French dip sandwich and the total of my meal was about $14. Not too bad considering how much food (bread) you get. I have noticed the bread at Boudin can be hit or miss. Sometimes it is super fresh and pillowy while other times it tastes a bit stale. Today, they bread was great, super soft and good flavor. The clam chowder is always solid. The French dip sandwich was ok. Not much too it, just bread, beef and au jus. The sandwich was dry without the dipping sauce and the beef tasted overcooked and poor in quality. Overall not a bad meal and I will be trying a different sandwich next time.

My job in San Rafael catered Boudin and provided lunch for the employees who came in on a Saturday for OT. I decided to try the Boudin in Santa Rosa. This particular night I wanted a sandwich. I ordered the sandwich that came with a salad. I made the mistake of ordering another salad on the side. The lady who helped me cancel the order spoke to the employees in the kitchen in Spanish. Alicia went out of her way to get it right and she checked on me several times to see if I needed anything? Another young lady came to my table to tell me she was about to make my beverage. The French bread was a site to see and they had a variety. I was totally happy with my sandwich and very pleased with the service. I shall return, I love me some Boudin, my job has me spoiled.

Is this a sit down restaurant?

They have seats for you to sit down, but no one comes around to take your order. You order at the counter and then chose your own table to sit at. Similar to going to a fast food restaurant.

I also really liked the to-go packaging; it has a separate slot for the dressing, so you don't have to guess which one goes with which salad when ordering multiple items. I also tried the Golden State Cobb, but I definitely preferred the Thai mango salad. The service was friendly. They did accidentally give me tofu instead of chicken, but it wasn't a big deal. The food came out quickly even though the place was packed. In terms of pricing, the Thai mango salad is a good value--around $14-15 and it already includes protein. Some of the other salads are priced similarly, but you have to pay extra for protein, which can bring the total closer to $20. That feels a bit pricey to me. Overall, it's a great spot and I'd come back again

I came here to try their breakfast sandwich, which definitely did not disappoint. I also took home a couple of desserts for later! The service here is really great! The person who helped us when we arrived gave us some great suggestions! I really like the seating here and it feels nice and spacious. The art on the walls adds a nice touch as well! The breakfast sandwich has fried eggs and white cheddar cheese on an English Muffin. First I love the way they fry the eggs. Crispy, but still with a runny yoke. The cheese is melted nicely into this really yummy English muffin that was toasted really nicely. I also added bacon and avocado, which was a delicious touch. It's a very rich, fatty sandwich, so I asked for some hot sauce plus it's served with a side of pickles which helps to cut the richness as well. I took a few desserts home to try later, and I'm glad I did! The gluten free carrot cake is excellent. Very buttery and the texture is amazing. Not very sweet, but that may be what some people like. The gluten free lemon cheesecake had a great flavor and is dense like a NY style cheesecake. Again, also not very sweet, but delicious nonetheless. The Flan was a 10/10 in flavor and sweetness, but a 6/10 in texture. A little too dense for my liking. Overall, I love this place and will be back soon!

I went with the Thai yellow curry over brown rice with chicken, which was the kind of meal that makes you feel like a responsible adult who has their life together. It was delicious! My dining companion's Ahi Poke bowl was equally impressive, and the roasted sweet potato salad was so good it briefly made me question my life choices up to that point. The chicken -- whether in a salad or a bowl -- was tender, flavorful, and absolutely not what I expected from a place with this many kale options. A word to the wise: show up at noon and you will be humbled. This spot is enormously popular with locals and the lunch-break crowd, and the line will remind you that good food attracts a crowd whether you like it or not. Fortunately, the staff is genuinely warm, happy to make recommendations, and will answer your menu questions without making you feel like you're holding up the line -- even when you absolutely are. The first time I didn't take as much advantage of this and there's different veggies that you can get extra of. We've gotten the miso salmon, the hummus crunch, steak mezze, and the super green goddess. The flavors have worked well for each of the dishes. I'd say customizing to add more cucumbers and the different sides made it easy to try things out. When going through the menu on the kiosk, it would tell you when things are out though you kind of have to design your own adventure. The steak and was a bit dry, and miso salmon could've been warmer but it still hit the mark. I liked the texture differences for the hummus crunch from the garlic breadcrumbs. Conveniently, I could add those things onto other dishes if they're my preference since there's a number of toppings that cost nothing to add or accentuate. Pretty solid in my book just for that. Of course, adding proteins is generally an added charge so your real decision at first is just which one and what flavor profile you want to go with. I think as long as you pick your foundation right, this gives a good orchestrated way to tweak everything you like about what you get.

In my case the salad I selected came up with all included ingredients and a note that one item was unavailable. Maybe I was supposed to figure out how to make a substitution at that point, but typically I would ask my server about what would work in its place that they have on hand. In this case it just took my payment and delivered the salad without it. I then moved to the dining area, which is entirely, completely, totally two or three tables that will accommodate two people each. There are tables outside in the covered breezeway if your party includes three or more people I guess. There are people working in the facility, but they are very back of house, not gonna talk to you employees. When my food was ready a guy took it from the machine, placed it on the pickup counter, called out my name, then returned backstage. The future has arrived and apparently we don't want restaurants anymore.

Rosé fairly recently in my last trip. i always order the meatballs a la carte/appetizer. and if I get a salad, unless it is to go, o make it a piadine (wrapped on a pillowly soft yet satisfying outer crunchy garlic flat bread almost naan style). yes, you can cut it in half perfect for sharing. if you get the Caesar, I ask for more anchovies on the side. these are the pickled lightly brined white anchivy filets, much done in the same pickling style as mackerel in sushi restaurants. I love cutting to bits and eating with the salad and the pizza. certain pizzas are great with an egg on top, cracked in the middle cooked whites and runny yolk. if you want to make sure your white is cooked all the way, just ask them to add a couple movies for the egg. and they always serve pizza with fresh pepper flakes and parm. the squid is good. You call them upon arrival and they will bring it out to your car which is awesome. Food was ready when we arrived, fantastic! We ordered the 1/2 bucket with umami fries, side of mac n' cheese, and lots of sauces. The meal comes with pickled veggies, slaw, and 4 Hawaiian rolls with nori butter. It's always disappointing to get your order home from anywhere and find a problem, so spoiler alert that impacts the experience for me. I ordered the fries extra crispy and not only did they come soggy as all get out but they also were lacking the umami salt that's supposed to make them special. Everything else was correct but the fries were a disappointment right out the gate. I seasoned them from my spice rack and popped them under the broiler to crisp up. This helped but if they come out of the fryer not crispy the broiler only does so much. Pickled veggies are good. I always love a pickled carrot. The slaw didn't have much flavor I could discern but I added one of the hot sauces on it and it was tasty. The star of the show, the chicken, was ok. I LOVE fried chicken and eat more of it than I probably should, lol. It was VERY crispy almost too crispy (maybe the chicken was cooked well done instead of my fries?). Since it was so crispy this made the chicken dry. Overall, slightly better than meh but not much. Maybe this isn't a meal that translates to go? If we try it again it'll be in person, even though we are literally only 6 miles away so it's not like it traveled far before we got down on it. Glad we tried it out finally but definitely feeling sad it didn't leave me happier for having checked them out. I'd be remiss if I didn't express how sad I am with how disappointing this meal was overall. Fried chicken usually brings me so much joy alas not today. Oh well I guess. I had higher hopes with all the 4 and 5 star reviews. Maybe we got a bad order but this wasn't a good first showing to make me want to come back and try again. So much sadness.

Here are my thoughts, and yes I am getting into the nitty gritty! Sandwiches- first and foremost the cuts of the chicken they are using are really bizarre, it was in multiple pieces really thin and only covered like 60% of the bun. The bun is decent but texturally could be toasted more. Both The Hot Bird isn't spicy and too sweet in my opinion, there's a lot of the sauce and it makes it a little soggy. The wild bird was good but again the odd chicken piece took away from it. We cut them in half and one of the halves literally only had 1 bit of chicken. Fries-what umami? With a name like that I'm expecting you to punch me in the face with that good earthy robust flavor. This tasted like normal slightly chalky fries. Visually it didn't look like it had anything sprinkled on it. The fries come with pineapple ketchup... or so they say. We definitely got gochujang sauce. Again... meh! I love fried chicken sandos, but it was just okay.

She also let us know that we had arrived just in time for happy hour, so naturally we had to order some drinks and appetizers. We tried both the red and white sangrias, which our waitress had made fresh that day. They were refreshing and hit the spot. To start, we ordered the calamari and shared a Caesar salad. Everything arrived in a timely manner and came out hot and fresh. The calamari was crispy and well prepared. The focaccia was good, although I would have preferred it served warm. The Caesar salad was flavorful and the perfect size for sharing. The lamb in the Lamb Ragu was cooked perfectly, and the pasta had a great texture and chew. The Pappardelle Bolognese was hearty, meaty, and equally well executed. Portion sizes for both dishes were just right and satisfying without being overwhelming. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and had a pleasant dining experience. My only critique is that both pasta dishes could have used a little more seasoning, particularly salt, to make the flavors pop a bit more. Aside from that, Eddie's delivered a good Italian dinner with friendly service and good value.
