If I could give this Dental Center less than 1 star I would. In the 4.5 years that I was a patient with them I never had the same dental hygienist - not because I came on different days or different times, it was due to aggressive turn over of their staff. Which should have been an extreme red flag. I think I had 2-3 very thorough cleanings and all others seem to just check the box. Next, they failed to inform me of my teeth grinding issue as evidenced by the extreme erosion of my back molars. I was told this after 4 years of going to the same dentist that it was a serious problem and I should really look into it..... And lastly, they have a policy that if you are late or miss an appointment they will charge a $75 fee. However, they never imposed this or discussed it with you on a few occasions where I had to re-schedule due to illness or work related issues. They finally did inform me that the next time I missed an appointment that I would be charged but they would not impose it during this circumstance. When I rescheduled they forced me to pay $75. I asked for them to review the case, but of course the admin who had told me on the phone that they would not charged me no longer worked there and they didn't believe me. I would NEVER recommend going to this place. Clearly their business practices are not up to snuff and the care they provide is questionable. Do not trust. read more

Determined that two of my teeth were not capable of withstanding a cavity so installed two crowns. Decided to use the most expensive material rather than what insurance typically covers. After paying $1200 at the time of visit, I received a bill of $3500 after the insurance company utilized their own specialist to review the xrays and stated they would not cover the crowns because the teeth were acceptable to carry the fillings. They don't answer their phone, nor do they have voicemail option. Their response to my email was "We are not responsible for how insurance companies choose to do business". I am a former medicaid patient and I went here for about 4 years and never questioned the sometimes strange practices I observed. To start, every time I went to this location for a routine cleaning I was told I had at least one cavity. One day, I went into this location because the back of one of my crowns had chipped off. In no way was it affecting the structure of the crown, nor was it noticeable to people when I smiled. The dentist (whose name I will not mention unless asked), told me that I needed to replace the crown. After scheduling for a replacement, I asked her if we could just do a filling and she responded "Sure, we can do a filling". I found it a bit disturbing that this wasn't the first option mentioned. What would have cost over $2000 was fixed for $85 and she never even presented it as an option. Medicaid would be covering the bill so who cares, right? Fast forward to about a year later. I went in for a cleaning (late in the pandemic) and had missed my previous six month cleaning. The dentist was rushing around from patient to patient as I waited for about 15 minutes. When she finally got to me, she brought out an ultrasonic cleaner and started frantically cleaning my teeth. After about 10 minutes, she said my teeth were too dirty and that I needed to come back for another cleaning. I found this comment strange as I had been flossing, using a water pic, and brushing twice a day, so I knew for a fact my teeth were not "so dirty" as she said. She also told me I had a "minor cavity". When I got home I noticed she had carved a strait line down the back of my crown. At my appointment for my "second cleaning" a week later, I was told by her that she did not see anything (as her pick got stuck in the crevice) and she assured me the ultrasonic cleaner could not damage a crown. When I told her I could feel the damage with my tongue she got very defensive, raising her voice and asking, "So what, you want me to replace your crown?". The hygienist then reassured me that it wasn't possible to damage the crown. I told the dentist I did not feel comfortable with her working on my teeth anymore and she told me that I needed to get my "really bad cavity" filled (in the earlier appointment it was a minor cavity which suddenly changed to a really bad one). After I left, I contacted my uncle, a dentist, and asked him his opinion. He explained he never uses the ultrasonic on crowns because it can easily damage them. After doing more research, I found that ultrasonic cleaners should not be used on crowns, period. I suspect she noticed her error, and rather than admit she had rushed and damaged my crown, rescheduled me to come in at a later date for a "second cleaning". This would also charge medicaid for 2 cleanings rather than one as I suspect they lost a lot of money during the pandemic and were trying to make the money back. The whole thing was unlike any encounter I have ever had at a dentist. After this experience, I got a second opinion from a different dentist at a different practice who informed me that he did indeed notice the damage to my crown. He also told me that I did not need another cleaning and that I did not have a cavity. I just got another cleaning and still no cavities. It makes me think that they are blatantly committing fraud for the sake of profits. The assembly line environment of this place shows that they care much more about profits than patients. read more

The worst customer service as they mis-scheduled my appointment twice, and billed me wrongly but never apologized. I've never seen a doctor(actually two doctors) who gave me a shot without any warning. They had to re-do an implant three times, as well as failed on my another teeth!!! Wow! I started here as a patient when I first moved to CO. I loved Dr. Greg and Dr. Dany was great when Greg moved. But what has happened??!! Apparently they can't get good people-at all. I had a problem with the (strange) personalities of a couple hygienists but I can understand personality clashes. What I can't understand is total confusion from billing and front desk. I finally gave up and changed dentists; cancelling an upcoming appointment. I have since had several email reminders and phone calls; one telling me I'd be charged a fee if I missed my appointment without a 24 hour cancellation notice! There are plenty of good dentists and dental staff out there-I don't reco these guys at all! read more

My mother was seeing a doctor here (Appleby). My mother was looking for a new dentist and signed up for their $175 checkup deal. She broke a tooth this weekend. Because she signed up for their $175 checkup deal they would only allow her to see a specific doctor and not any of the other doctors. They would not schedule an emergency appt with her doctor because her doctor's schedule was full. I understand this - but then they said they 'could not, even in the next week'. 'sorry, we don't really care about YOU, just need your money'. Their solution was to not provide a solution. At all. My mother was extremely uncomfortable. If they are unwilling to help someone with an urgent situation it is apparent they could care less about their patients. Think twice about being a patient here! The quality of work is awful.They just drill for money, and you will be back 5 times with the same tooth problem. Since that time I have had nothing but problems in and around the crown due to a poor fit. I have excessive food build-up, and now inflammation in the gum and pain. I revisited dr. Abound's office to have him look at the crown and his recommendation was to drill into the adjacent tooth and install a larger filling where a filling already exists in order to fill the gap left by the poor crown installation. First, the crown should have been appropriately installed and sized initially, and second, the idea of drilling into an otherwise healthy tooth to fill a gap created by the mis-sized crown is bad practice. At this point I need to have the crown completely redone, and it's highly likely that this will result in a root canal for the underlying tooth. read more

This place is horrible. The dentist has a heavy hand and is unconcerned with the patient's comfort level. I have used him twice before with poor results. My mouth has felt violated all three appointments. It does seem as though he is more concerned w profit than his patients' welfare. Staff is pleasant is my only compliment. Dr. Pham & Dr. Abboud have pulled ALL of my teeth b/c I wanted implants..they then were incapable of even making a temp denture. Three times and NUMEROUS molds remade/STILL no temps so I am TOOTHLESS going on 2 weeks. The humiliation and emotional trauma is beyond my ability to articulate. I go from crying to rage every day. I will upload chronological pics of my mouth as soon as I figure out how to crop out my face since I am beyond humiliated. BEWARE I will be filing a lawsuit. read more

Long wait. Technician was sort of nice. Front desk was gossiping and non-pleasant for a professional environment. Have a bad tooth that needs pulling but with this weekends plans I needed to be active- needed to wait until after the holiday for the extraction. Pain level has been bad, 8/10 I'd say which is high for my pain tolerance. Got Motrin for the 4 days. Motrin... needless to say, I'm already taking NSAIDS and don't need more of basically the same drug to help pain. Thankfully I have beta-blockers because my BP and heart rate is very high from pain. Unfortunately I don't have her name, a blonde lady, who was extremely impolite and unprofessional, didn't care not even for a moment for the service she was rendering, I felt deeply disrespected. I've been here in Boulder a year and a half now and started using Boulder Dental Center when we first got back. We'd been out of the country for 12 years and came back with 4 kids all in needed of some dental TLC. Our insurance was about to end as well and they were amazing to work with, with three locations around Boulder they were able to fit us all in including our 12 year old who was in the middle of braces treatment. I've since had two adult children have their wisdom teeth out as well as numerous filling among all of us. They've been so fantastic to work with have helped us to get the best deal for our family. Their family plan is great! I highly suggest it. With 6 in our family it has saved us so much. They are doing their best to stay safe in Covid times, I even appreciate that they wouldn't let me wait on the tiny waiting room when my 19 year old had her wisdom teeth out, she wanted me there but with Covid on the rise, I felt much better leaving and coming back. I went in for a cleaning and all was going well, the hygienist was pretty gentle, until she came to my bottom built-in retainer. I understand these are not the most convenient things for hygienists when doing a cleaning, however she was SO rough around it. She ended up ripping up the right side of it completely, removing it from the glue or whatever they use to secure it. At the end of the appointment I told her and the dentist it was very uncomfortable and she assured me that he would be able to fix it that morning very quickly. HOWEVER... they couldn't schedule an appointment until two days later. And they are planning to make me pay for this. I'm in college so I haven't been going to the dentist away from home for very long and I am a little nervous to speak up about how wrong that feels. I cannot talk or eat normally, so the next two days should be fun. Would not recommend. read more

I am 26 years old and have been to seven dentists in two different countries. I have beautiful, naturally straight teeth ... which I can say without feeling narcissistic because they are (and always have been) horribly unhealthy. My first two dentists ventured to guess that it was due to growing up in the country without fluoride-infused water. The next four didn't offer any explanation but genetics. The first time I went to Dr. Abboud's office, the dental hygienist told me she has teeth like mine. "You'll always have a high-maintenance mouth," she explained, "but you can help that by taking better care of your teeth." Obviously, I had been trying to take care of my teeth to the very best of my abilities given my dental history. However, she gave me a good education on how to floss (I had, of course, been given this demo in all dentists' offices, but her demo was different), and recommended that I purchase a Water Pik, which I did. When I came back in several months later, Dr. Abboud reported that my gums were much healthier from my diligent care; which, of course, was refreshing to hear. I do like this dental office. I feel the receptionists are nice and patient. They have always taken the time to explain what my insurance will cover to me. The office also emails/texts to remind you of appointments, which is really nice. The only thing to keep in mind is Dr. Abboud is a down-to-business type of person. He's not the guy who is going to take a seat next to you, ask about your life in general, and try to make small talk. He sits down and asks you necessary questions about your teeth, then he does his thing. This, to me, is very refreshing since (with few exceptions) no one genuinely likes going to the dentist and you want to get in and out as quickly as possible. He doesn't come off as unfriendly, but he's a very efficient person who values your time and his. As far as the work itself, it seems to be quality work. I don't know much about dentistry, but I do know that I don't have any dental pain and I've already had several mercury fillings replaced with porcelain at Dr. Abboud's practice. I believe he did my first fillings about a year ago, so there's something to be said for that. Bottom line? I'd recommend giving them a try. You might keep Google reviews in mind as well ... for some reason, everyone on Yelp has had a horrible experience, but there are 250 or so Google reviews that have more of an even balance of positive and negative. If you don't like them, there are a lot of other great dentists in Boulder, too. I personally will stick with this dental office as long as we live here in Boulder, I'm sure. read more

Finding a great dentist isn't easy, but finding one that seems like they know what they are doing and treats you like a respected human being shouldn't be. I should preface by saying that, while going to the dentist isn't my favorite activity, I have never before had a poor experience with a dentist - my experience has nothing to do with a phobia of dental work, but completely to do with the impersonal and unprofessional conduct of the dentist that I saw at this office. For starters, I had to actually ask the dentist to look into my mouth to visualize the problem I was describing. Maybe he did not feel this was necessary, but humor me? I was made to feel like my questions regarding a procedure were a hassle to answer and laughed at by both the dentist and hygienist over one of my questions. While it is a medical professionals job to be knowledgeable and competent, it is also their job to make patients feel safe and informed. I would never feel safe having a procedure done on me by this dentist and I never received a full explanation by the dentist of the procedure they were telling me I must get or why he felt I should get it - after much effort on my part. Yes, I am sure it can feel monotonous to answer simple, maybe even "silly", questions by patients who have little medical understanding, but it is your job. It is your job to provide me with a basic understanding of what is happening in my body and make me feel as if you are competent and capable of doing whatever you are prescribing. I will say that the office staff was efficient and kind. read more

I'm very disappointed with this place after having experiencing how a dentist office should be before I moved here. My husband went in knowing full well he needed a good amount of dental work as care was unfortunately out of reach for him until recently. After he left, he told me horror stories of his experience. They did a treatment plan and essentially told him it would be thousands of dollars out of pocket. This is okay- he needs work. However they were unwilling to spread the work out into affordable segments or work with us for payment plans, like every other dentist I've met would. He was told "you have good insurance, you should be able to afford this." When he told them he just does not have the money that day, they cancelled his cleaning, canceled an antibiotic wash they told him he was going to get, packaged up his treatment plan (with his name spelled wrong) and sent him on his way. Cleanings are covered 100% by our plan, so there's no reason to do that other than to be petty. He also told me the place seemed very old, outdated and dirty. He said he could see metal or rust spots showing through on the equipment and he felt the dental instruments used in his mouth didn't seem sanitary. I'm extremely disappointed with the poor service and lack of cleanliness presented by this company. It's put such a bad taste in our mouths, we are probably going to be flying back to Florida to see our old dentist. read more

I came to this dentist because they take medicaid, and I needed some x-rays and a second opinion on a possible root canal. I was feeling vulnerable, because I sometimes get really sick from dental and other treatments. I wanted to avoid getting unnecessary x-rays, and the dentist from the last office had advised me not to get a panoramic. Sure enough, the assistants started to prep me for a panoramic without explaining anything. I caught it and told them I didn't think that was what I wanted. They seemed annoyed and impatient that I was asking questions about what they were doing and why. The dentist barely spoke to me. He did a manual exam, and was very rough with my teeth, pressing on every sensitive part so hard that it made me jump. He told me I needed 6 fillings, which made me think my teeth were in terrible shape. I had hoped to hear from the dentist about why the panoramic x-ray was needed, and if he could give me a second opinion about the root canal, but he was so rude, and seemed sadistic, that I decided to get out of there. I took my bitewings and went to another office. I was given a statement when I left. The people in the front office seemed nice enough at the time. I asked, "this is all covered by my medicaid, right?" They said yes, and the statement clearly said I owed $0. When I got home, I looked more closely at the statement and their suggested treatment plan. Sure enough, it said I needed 6 fillings, including one in a tooth that had just been filled a few weeks before. Also, they had charged my medicaid account for the panoramic x-ray I did not get. I called the office immediately to get this corrected, and was told that those charges would be removed. Fast forward 2 1/2 months later, I receive a bill in the mail, listing the bitewings and painful "oral evaluation" I had received, plus two additional periapical x-rays which I had not received. It was as if they had removed the erroneous charge for the panoramic, then thrown a couple more in its place. They also wanted me to pay out of pocket for these, which doesn't seem right for someone with medicaid. The thing that concerns me about this is that they seem to be in the custom of sending out erroneous charges. I wonder how many people who can't really afford it end up paying them without realizing they've been erroneously charged, and then aren't able to scrape together their rent or food for the month. Perhaps this office is just very disorganized, but after my traumatic visit with Dr. Abboud, and seeing all the terrible reviews here, I can't help but wonder if there could be something more intentional happening. Fortunately, in the meantime, I've found another dentist though Clinica. He answered all of my questions respectfully, did an exam that caused no pain whatsoever, and determined that I only need two small fillings plus the extraction/root canal of the one tooth I came for a second opinion on. I walked out of that office feeling informed and relieved, even though I had been told I need a root canal! The two experiences were night and day. Unfortunately, I still have to waste energy hunting down Boulder Dental Center's billing department, to make sure that, for the second time, they clear the false charges. The threat of medical debt is very real and serious, especially to people with limited income or health conditions that make it hard to keep up with paperwork. In my mind, it's not worth it to go to places like Boulder Dental Center that heap this kind of stress on the client, whether through their incompetence or for worse reasons. Places like this really should not be in business at all. Update: I spoke with Kristen in billing today. Although she should not have access to my medical files, she insisted that I did get the x-rays on the new statement, in fact that she had them in front of her, and that I am responsible for charge. I told her I know I didn't, I know exactly what x-rays I got, and no periapical x-rays were sent to my other dentist when I left the practice, only the bitewings. I asked her to look at my original statement, and explain why those x-rays were not listed there, but all of a sudden added on 2 1/2 months later. She now claimed that she has no access to the old statement, in spite of being in billing. That seemed pretty funny that she would have my private medical images but not my billing statements. While still nastily insisting that I was wrong, she said "I'm not going to argue with you, so I will just remove those charges, and you can go to another practice," the implication being that calling out a false charge is grounds for kicking a patient out of the practice. I guess it's a pattern for them. Pretty messed up, but good riddance. I asked to be sent a copy of the new statement without the erroneous charges, which I have not yet received. I hope this is my last chapter with Boulder Dental. read more

So I am not the type of person who typically writes reviews, but as someone who recently moved to the area and needed to find a dentist relatively quickly (I was due for a 6 month cleaning and had a really sensitive molar), I feel obligated to warn people to stay away from this place. I admit I had not done enough research when finding this dentist, and saw that this office had 455 reviews with an average of 4.5 stars on Google Review, so I felt fine moving forward with scheduling my cleaning here. However, about 10 min before my scheduled cleaning, I googled the office to get the address for my GPS and was shocked to see that on Yelp this office was rated a mere 1.9 stars. Why hadn't I see this before?? I was deluded from the 4.5 star rating on Google Review, and was in a rush to get something scheduled, that's why.... I was apprehensive, but decided to follow through with my cleaning appointment. I went to the office and notified one of the doctors that I suspected I might have a cavity on one of my molars since it had been very sensitive every time I brush my teeth. Before even looking in my mouth, he said "That's not what it is! It's just root exposure". After inspecting my teeth and calling out tooth names to the dental hygienist, I asked him how many cavities I had, to which he responded "Four".. with no explanation of where they were located!! I asked him where they were, and he ended up pointing to that SAME MOLAR that I was complaining about. Yes, it was the same molar that he said was not a cavity, but mere root exposure, and recommended I use a sensitivity toothpaste (Update: which actually has helped as lot since this appointment). But he poked the tooth again and said "it's a little sticky, it can't hurt". *cringe* I thought four cavities were a little much-- I have always had a few "watches" on my teeth at my old dentist back home, but I have never had more than 2 cavities detected in one visit that needed filling... I began to feel nervous and was not assured that I was properly being taken care of. I have pretty good dental insurance, and my estimate for the 4 fillings came out to be nearly $400... I reluctantly scheduled the follow up appointment for my fillings because, hey, I can't neglect my teeth, right? WELL, I went home and read all of these horrible Yelp reviews in great detail. I can honestly relate to many of the complaints and uncertainties that are expressed in these reviews, including peoples' suggestions to GET A SECOND OPINION!! I immediately found a new dentist in Boulder to get a second opinion and my new doctor explained everything to me in great detail, and took new x-rays. His examination was extremely thorough and he shared his observations in an objective manner. Guess what? I did have some de calsification on a few teeth BUT NO CAVITIES and NO WORK that urgently needed to be done to my teeth. He suggested I continue using the sensitivity toothpaste for my molar and we would track the health of the tooth in 6 months before resorting to dental work. For goodness sake, if I did not trust my gut instinct and/or see these Yelp reviews, I would have had 4 unnecessary holes drilled into my teeth and down $400! While I do feel awful giving this place very negative review especially since the dental hygienist and the front staff were very pleasant, I cannot ignore what happened, and I question this dentist's judgment. This dentist is the quintessential modern business model for fixing your teeth! There is very little client interaction: that takes time and it affects their product efficiency. This model doesn't work so well when it comes to patient satisfaction, and the experience there was the worst in my some 70 years of dental care. Was that a robot treating me? Nothing was explained or understood, except that there was probably someone in the next room waiting to be processed. Very in and out, and not sure about the quality and having no clue that I was to have 3 weeks of pain. Spend the BIG dental bucks somewhere else and feel rightly treated! read more

I received horrible treatment and tooth damage at Boulder Dental Center. They have really gone downhill in the past few years. It first started when I went to the Foothills location several months ago for a long overdue cleaning and was seen afterwards by Dr. "Raz", who said that I needed a filling for a tooth that was not bothering me. After I told her I had a crown on the tooth next to it, a new crown was added to the quote I was given at the front desk. It was obvious she was trying to find a problem for further work. I wasn't planning to go back, but then roughly a week later, I was having severe pain on the other side of my mouth and knew I needed a root canal. I decided to see Dr. Appleby (same location), who I thought was more trustworthy. She agreed I needed the procedure and said she could do it the next day, which was a surprise to me since the one root canal I had years before, on a different molar, was done by a specialist. She also asked how old all my crowns were, including the one on the painful tooth. She tested the crown by having me bite down several times on a hard plastic object, but the crown was not damaged and was not the cause of the problem. The following day, she started the root canal, but had to leave it partially started because my canals had calcified. She then agreed that an endodontist would need to complete the work. I was given a referral for a nearby endodontic practice where I was informed that they could not get me in for 2+ weeks. Dr. Appleby said if I couldn't be seen there soon that I should see Dr. Abboud, who could see me the following week. I was led to believe he was an endodontist, when he is not. He is owner of the practice. When I saw Dr. Abboud, my condition went from bad to much worse. The lack of empathy for my situation was the least of it. I expressed to him that I was not happy with needing to now get a new crown to replace the one that was removed. Instead of apologizing, he made excuses and unfounded claims. He proceeded to work on my tooth for close to an hour before saying he didn't think this would be successful. He continued and drilled through my root and out the side of it. He said at that point I'd need an implant and sent someone in to give me a quote. I asked for my X-rays, antibiotics (since I now had an infection), and pain medication. They refused to give me pain meds, which I really needed. A few hours later, I called BDC and spoke with the manager in which I expressed how upset I was. She stated that nothing would be billed, although, she did try to get me to go back for further treatment, which I refused. After that nightmare experience, I was able to see an actual endodontist at a different practice, who was very knowledgeable, experienced, and caring. I learned during that appointment that my tooth had been drilled out so much that I had damage to my gums underneath and had a broken piece of a metal instrument embedded deep between my root and gums, but my tooth could be saved, and an implant was not the only solution like I had been told by Dr. Abboud. I had to have two further root canal treatments on my tooth as well as core buildup of my tooth to get a new crown that did not originally need replacing. All of this caused me so much stress, pain, change in diet, as well as much more money spent personally and by my insurance than it would have if I had gone somewhere else capable of helping me. BDC did bill my insurance days later, causing multiple phone calls to ensure a refund was issued and received by insurance for the claim that never should have been submitted in the first place. Through generous personal loans, I was able to pay for the needed work from the new Dr. while I waited for BDC to refund my insurance (even a partial billing caused me to have to pay the full cost of the additional work needed). I still have the metal piece in my mouth. Fortunately, it's not causing any problems yet. If it does, I will need further endodontic work. I was lied to multiple times and treated me with little compassion or regard. I wish I had never set foot in any of their locations. read more

The staff at Boulder dental care on canyon street have been so very professional and so very kind to a point that it makes me relaxed in an environment (the dentist office), that I'm normally not very relaxed in. I feel like they're taking very very good care of my teeth and very very good care of me read more

I've been going here since 2011. 2011-2015 I'd give them more like 3 or 4 stars, but the last couple of times I've gone have been truly awful. In the past, I'd have said that it was a good place to go for a quick cleaning--nice hygienists, in and out of the door in 45 minutes. But the last two times I've had long waits and careless hygienists. (Last time, she told me I needed x-rays, spent 10 minutes messing with her computer system, then *forgot* to do the x-rays until I reminded her.) Dr. Abboud is curt and uncommunicative. Which is fine if all you need is "Looks good, see you in 6 months," and that's all I'd ever needed from him before my last appointment. My last dentist before this was always trying to fill every tiny little thing, so I appreciated what I thought of as Dr. Abboud's 'wait-and-see' approach. But this last appointment, I did finally have "a small cavity." (His words.) It would only take "half an hour" to fill. (Note that he didn't say any of that to me; I had to infer it from what he was saying to the hygienist.) For the sake of your teeth, don't let that man near your mouth with a drill. He's hamfisted and doesn't care about patient comfort. The quality of work is bad. For a supposedly 'small' cavity, it feels like he replaced half of my tooth, and poorly. And I could tell while it was happening that he screwed it up the first time and had to redo it. My half-hour appointment turned into an hour. That night I went home and flossed, and my gums were bleeding all around the tooth. Not just a little blood, either--the floss was soaked. The price he quoted me was cheaper than I would've thought, and now I know why. read more

I generally don't write reviews, even when I've had a poor experience somewhere. However, I want to put this out there so that people can make informed decisions based on various experiences. I went to Boulder Dental Center for the first time for a cleaning. They were able to be flexible with my work schedule, the receptionists were all friendly, and the dental hygienist did a great job cleaning my teeth, no complaints! The dentist came in towards the end, briefly introduced himself, and jumped right in to looking at my teeth. He took pictures and pointed out to me that I appeared to have a few small (minor) cavities. I have had one other cavity my entire life and generally take good care of my teeth, but I trusted his opinion (and the photos he showed me). He suggested I get them filled sooner rather than later so as to avoid anything happening to them. I appreciated the visit and even suggested Boulder Dental to a friend. Fast forward... When I walked in for my fillings appointment, the front desk charged me before I had any of the work done. I was nervous, I'll admit. Like I said, I haven't had many fillings done and not since I was a kid, so I was a bit unsure what the appointment would look like. But I thought, I only had to get past the numbing and then my cavities would be taken care of. I was taken back, seated, the dentist came in and simply said that we were doing a few small fillings. He began numbing my mouth with no explanation or conversation and once he was done sitting there injecting the numbing agent (which took about five minutes), both he and the assistant left the room without saying anything. My mouth began to get numb, as I'd expected, but then so did my tongue, chin, and lower lip. I got a bit worried, because I thought that seemed strange for three small cavities. I walked out of the room to find someone to speak to. It took about 30 seconds to find someone available to talk to. I went up and mentioned that it was all feeling a bit funny and I wanted to make sure that normal. The assistant sat me back in the room and said that due to the numbing agent, that was normal and then promptly left again. I felt no reassurance at all as the lower portion of my face grew more and more numb. I attempted to talk to her again, to which she responded with something of a laugh and said I must be nervous. At this point, I no longer felt comfortable getting the work done. I grabbed my things, apologized profusely, and let them know I was opting not to have the work done. They did void my transaction. They also charged me the $20 to email my x-rays to my personal email address. Five hours and fifteen minutes later, the lidocaine medication wore off. I feel I was given too much medicine, especially for a procedure that was to be for small cavities and last only forty five minutes. My mouth was also sore from where the medicine was injected. I completely understand that my case could be exactly that-- just an unpleasant personal experience. But when so many people already don't enjoy going to the dentist and having their mouths poked and prodded, why would you laugh off a patient's nerves and questions? I'm not unfamiliar with dental work in general-- I've had braces and I get bi-annual checkups. I was trying to find a dentist closer to where I live now and I've never walked out on an appointment. It left me feeling really discouraged, embarrassed, and for the first time, really uneasy about going to the dentist. PS I went to another dentist a few weeks later who said I actually only had one cavity that needed filling, not three. read more

I initially went to Boulder Dental Center for a free second opinion on a molar that needed a root canal. I left that day raving to friends about Dr. Carter! I hadn't been to the dentist in years due to the cost and he was very kind about it, didn't make me feel guilty, gave me reasoned information about the state of my root canal, and just made me feel respected as a patient. This was a huge improvement over the other office I went to in Boulder. The hygienist at the other dental office made multiple rude comments about me not going to the dentist in years. I felt extremely uncomfortable during my cleaning and that dentist also gave me extreme advice about the root canal. I'm so happy I switched to Boulder Dental Center! Scheduling appointments have been a breeze, the three receptionists I've spoken to during visits have been friendly, Dr. Carter was very patient during my root canal and offered continual explanations about what was going on, and was understanding about me wanting to schedule my permanent crown just a little bit later so it'd be covered when my dental insurance kicks in. I was also really happy I could get my root canal at the dental office. Not all dentists do it, so the other dental office was going to drill into my tooth, clean it out, and then send me to an external endodontist that I wouldn't know. I walked into my root canal appointment STOKED to be there (they were going to fix my tooth and numb me up afterall!) but I think I would've been way more nervous if I hadn't previously met Dr. Carter and felt comfortable in that office. Patience, respect, and clear explanations make all the difference. I honestly cannot recommend Boulder Dental Center enough. If you're looking for a dentist after avoiding it for years, I highly recommend this place. If you don't have insurance, they have a $75 new patient special for cleaning -- or a fantastic $250 annual plan that includes two cleanings, x-rays, and then 30% off fillings, crowns, root canals if you do want to commit to their office. I will be spending a large chunk of money this year between my root canal and needed fillings. I know it isn't affordable for everyone, but I think Boulder Dental Center does offer a strong, affordable dental plan and respectful care. After avoiding the dentist for years and returning to a root canal and lots of fillings, I am now a dentist evangelist. If you're reading this because you're feeling guilty about not going to the dentist or scared because of the pain you're in -- GO TO THE DENTIST! TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH! The earlier you go in, the earlier you can catch problems, fix your teeth, and ultimately save money (a $150 filling is way better than a $2000 root canal and crown!). If you do select Boulder Dental Center, I hope your experience is as positive and respectful as mine. read more

I had an appointment scheduled to get a root canal on a cavity filled that had fallen out (I had originally got it done there), first sign that maybe I shouldn't go back. But, I had to cancel my appointment when my truck broke down in Albuquerque on my way back to Boulder. I called and gave them about a 20 hour notice and I had all the paperwork to show I had my truck fixed in Albuquerque, NM as to why I couldn't make it to the appointment, however, they said they couldn't book me again and although I have been a client for several years and my son also goes there, they dropped me as a client because of this emergency situation where I was stuck and had to cancel my appointment. The receptionist was very rude and they were not wiling to listen or care about the situation, they are just clearly very unprofessional. After reviewing the other reviews about the dentist, maybe its best I get another opinion and see another dentist anyway. I was even more surprised when I called another dentist and talked to a receptionist who said she had talked to another patient who had the same problem with this dental office. I have reported them to Medicaid and will continue to spread the word about their horrible policies. But in the end, its probably for the best as the filling they had given me hadn't stuck and had fallen out and had been rotting under the filling, to the point where I need the root canal now only 2 years later. My opinion, this office and dentist is NOT worth the visit, keep looking. Update: So I received a letter from DentaQuest who I filed my complaint with via Medicaid against this office and you wouldn't believe it but the office manager Leah lied to the investigator and told her that I called the same day of my root-canal and not the day before. However, what she failed to realize is we live in the age of data, and that I have a data trail of my cellphone records. So I sent my phone records to DentaQuest so I could prove that Leah lied in her response to their investigation. I can't believe this lady is still employed at Dr. Abboud's office, and I can't believe that DentaQuest hasn't removed them as a provider, how much lying and bad behavior does one dental office have to do to loose their license to practice? Additionally their office still has not released my crown pre-auth so I still have not been able to complete my procedure at my new dentist because this office is still not cooperating with anyone. Seriously avoid this Dental office like its the plague. read more

If you go to this dentist and he tells you you need work done GET A SECOND OPINION!!! I have great dental insurance where I pay a miniscule amount out of pocket and I felt this dentist tried to take advantage of that. He told me I had 7 cavities. 7?! I never get cavities. I take very good care of my teeth. And 6 months prior my previous dentist didn't spot any cavities or signs of any forming. So I got a second opinion going to another dentist's office telling them I have cavities but I wouldn't say how many because I wanted to know the truth. My new dentist said he couldn't find a trace of a single cavity in my mouth. Really upset that Dr. Abboud was so dishonest especially since he comes off so nice. Or maybe he just needs to go back to dental school to learn how to spot a cavity. read more
