I initially went to the Apple Store to try to get my iPad repaired after dropping it on the power button (it would not turn on at all after as the button was stuck) Apple couldn't get it working and sent me to Boulder Mac Repair. So glad they did! Boulder Mac Repair was able to diagnose and fix the problem and had my device back to me in 48 hours. Without them my iPad would have probably ended up in the recycling, so I am happy to recommend them to others. read more

I frequently come to Boulder Mac Repair when I am having minor or serious problems with my Mac. Dusty is always friendly and willing to help trouble shoot the problem on the spot. For serious damage, I have dropped the computer and broken the screen which needed complete replacement. It was repaired quickly. I have spilled water on the keyboard and fried the motherboard. I went in to give these guys a 5-star review and saw that I already did that 6+ years ago. Looking over the review, I realize I wasn't all that clear about why exactly the service was top notch. So I'm correcting that now. I brought my busted up iPhone 6 in about an hour and a half before closing last night. Dusty told me he had some other commitments and wouldn't be able to get to it but would I like to check it in or just bring it back in the morning. I left it with him and he told me it'd be done around 1030 the next day. I went in the next morning and he was busy helping someone but looked over at me and said the phone wasn't quite ready but it wouldn't be more than 15 - 20 minutes. I went to get a coffee at the old Vic's and returned 5 minutes later. I watched Dusty triage someone's broken MacBook in 30 seconds flat. He helped a other customer with a setting for right clicking with his MacBook and another person who brought in an SSD-powered ultrabook was quickly helped. I am floored at how quickly Dusty helped so many folks and would be shocked if they didn't all give this place 5 stars and refer ANYONE THEY KNOW to this place. I try not to leave crummy reviews but I feel I have to here. I had a problem with my IPad back in September of last year, it just wouldn't take or hold a charge for some reason. I was on my way to Ubreakifix in Boulder but as I passed by this shop I thought I would give this local business a try first. I was about to take an international trip and I really needed this device for maps, entertainment, and most of all my Kindle app. They had the thing for a week before the told me that it couldn't be fixed. They charged me a $125 diagnostic fee anyway. I bought another device at the Apple store and was on my way. Fast forward to this week. Just for the sake of trying since I paid quite a bit for it I decided to bring it to the Ubreakifix store to see what they could do. For $149 they replaced the port and a chip that controls the charging process! It's now fully charged and working just fine. I just feel that they got backed up with work and didn't even TRY to repair it. It's too bad too since you would think a local place would care a bit more about the customer. read more

I thought I needed a new Mac. The battery couldn't keep a charge. It was slow. It randomly crashes. I went to the Mac store and they said it's a "vintage" model (5 years old); that it'd take 3 weeks to get the parts and do the repairs. Who can be without their computer for that long?? Just as I thought I'd need to put down thousands$ for a new computer, I found Boulder Mac Repair. I dropped my Mac off and within 24 hours they had replaced the battery and done a tune-up. They also cleaned the dirty old keyboard and screen. All at a fraction of the cost of a new computer. I cracked the screen on my iPad, so I called around and after talking to the people at Boulder Mac Repair, I decided to go with them, because their prices were good and they seemed to know what they were doing. I wasn't able to get it in right away, and it was working fine except for the crack, so after a couple of weeks I finally was able to make it in. A week later (and they had told me on the phone it would be 2-3 days), I went to go get it, and it had a bubble in the glass they put on it. This was a manufacture defect, but they didn't catch it. (They had never experienced this before, but they now have a new process to check, and they found 5 other in their stock that had the same problem.) Since it was expensive to replace, I wanted a glass that was right, so they replaced it.. Another week later I went to pick it up and brought it home. The internet was hardly working. I couldn't see my home network (which every other device in my house was on) and it could barely get a signal from my Verizon Wifi which was sitting 5 feet away. They did take it back to look at it, but it's like they didn't believe me. I had to actually take my Wifi in and show them (taking 3 steps away and the signal going down to the very lowest). I ended up making SIX trips into the store from Longmont, and they did finally fix it, and did apologize, but it's like they still never would admit they did anything wrong even though OBVIOUSLY it is now working way better than it was. And quite frankly, I think they should have given me at least SOME of my money back for all the inconvenience. I unfortunately cannot recommend them. read more

A Tale of Two Repair Experiences I'll start with Boulder Mac Repair. These guys are a class act, always helpful with fast, courteous, and friendly service without an attitude. I took my iPod Touch (5th Generation) which is still under warranty to the Apple Store in Boulder. More about that later. After a very disappointing experience at the Apple Store, I visited the guys at Boulder Mac Repair. The problem I had was that the tip of my Apple earbuds plug had broken off inside the iPod's earphone jack. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted and I explained my problem. One of the gentleman took the iPod to the back, and using tweezers or needle-nose pliers pulled the tip out. I asked him what I owed him, and he said "nothing." I was in and out in five minutes. An hour earlier I had visited the Apple Store on 29th Street. Luckily I had made an appointment online ahead of time since the customers who visited the store without an appointment were told they'd have to wait two to three hours. (This was on a Tuesday afternoon.) I waited in line to sign in with the iPad guy, and was directed to sit at a specific stool. I waited about twenty minutes, ten minutes past my appointment time. Even though I had entered my serial number into the online service request form, when my "genius" visited he had to enter it again. After finding that the iPod was still under warranty, he took a look at it and saw that there was something in the earphone jack. This was blamed on me. The fact that the earbuds were an Apple product, and that the tip broke off inside another Apple product did not matter. He asked me how I plugged and unplugged the earbuds. I told him that it's not exactly rocket science to plug and unplug the earbuds. (I didn't use language quite this sarcastic.) He said I could talk to a a manager. The manager came over and her story was the same...it was my fault that the tip had broken off, and furthermore, she said, "this happens very rarely." I commented that even though it might be a rare occurrence, that shouldn't mean it's not covered under warranty. I expressed my disappointment in Apple's warranty service. (I have had a prior problem with them denying service for a MacBook Pro in the last month of a 3-year service plan. In this case the Boulder Apple Store claimed "water damage" which Boulder Mac Repair found no sign of.) After expressing my disappointment with Apple's warranty support, I was told that Apple sells more iPhones than any other model. I don't know what the point was here, but the experience I had today at the Apple Store makes me think I should look at an Android for my next phone. So, netting it out, the guys at Boulder Mac Repair fixed my problem in less than 30 seconds. The people at the Apple Store were arrogant, unhelpful, and I wasn't willing to pay $149 for a flat rate repair. Support your local repair shop, Boulder! Took my MacBook in for an unhappy inverter cable. These guys were thorough and got my laptop back to me in a few days. Labor prices seemed high but parts were reasonable (though my laptop didn't require any replacement parts). They answered all my questions and were incredibly helpful. Unfortunately my MacBook didn't return to me in the same condition. The plastic housing around the screen was loose and to my own fault, I didn't raise an issue immediately (they have a 90 day satisfaction policy). Didn't seem like a big deal at the time, but roughly 6 months later the housing corner caught and pulled the inverter cable out again. Took it back to Boulder Mac Repair where they told me I could pay $120 to get it fixed again. I explained the housing was loose after they gave it back to me earlier this year, and that's when the 90 day policy slapped me in the face. I was told they would "need to recoup service time" to fix my MacBook but they would do me the favor of only charging me $90 again. Uh, no thanks. I'd like to recoup the money I already spent getting this exact same issue fixed. Went to the Boulder Apple Store and they took a look at my MacBook. It took them 10 minutes to fix the issue. Yeah, 10 minutes and $0. That's the reaction I would've expected from Boulder Mac Repair and their lack of customer focus leaves much to be desired. I'm sure they would've worked with me if I'd come in within 90 days, but (in hindsight) I'm disappointed with the condition my MacBook was returned to me and their disinterest in rectifying the situation. read more

If there were 6 stars available, the awesome people at Boulder Mac Repair would absolutely score all of them, and deservedly so! The entire staff, and ESPECIALLY Rebecca, the Mac genius/extraordinaire repaired/fixed not ONE, but TWO of my iMacs. The first one having been to NOT ONE, NOT TWO, but THREE different Apple repair stores that could not determine the diagnosis to the issue until Rebecca came to the rescue and all is well again! As for my second iMac, it needed a RAM upgrade as I need it to run Parallels/Windows 10 for my business. I dropped it off on a Wednesday afternoon, was told it may take 2-3 days for the job to be complete, but received a call back only A FEW HOURS LATER that the upgrade job was already completed! I cannot rave enough about BMR, their outstanding and superb staff, and their Apple genius Rebecca who will truly take care of your Apple-related issues! read more

Just bought a MacBook used, they told me the Enter key was loose. I figured this was a $5 fix. When I went to my local Mac repair place, they told me the key was not just loose, it was fused by someone trying to superglue it. They said $350 to replace the entire unicase, basically. So I took it down to BMR for a second opinion. The guys there pulled out a bunch of teensy bits, put some back in, and voila! working computer for $5 in 5 minutes. I wish I could tell the lady with the hot-tubbing iPhone at the other repair place to drive down to Boulder and try these guys! read more

Sadly, I drove over to Boulder again this week because my laptop was Having Issues. Gladly I drove back to Longmont later, knowing that I know what I need to know for now. Thank you, Boulder Mac Repair. On a drop-in basis, someone was able to do a quick diagnostic that I was not able to run at home. We chatted about some alternatives and I left feeling really good about the available choices. I also appreciated their willingness to level with me about why they no longer subcontract with a person I'd used for some other work. It was also clear on this visit that their used Macs turn over very, very quickly. If you see one you think you might want, be prepared to make a decision immediately or prepare for disappointment. Recently I failed to make a decision and proved the adage that "Not to decide is to decide." Arrrrrgggghhhhhh. Doing follow-ups is rare for me - this might be the first one, ever. This place runs a pretty cool operation and I may someday buy a used Mac from them. If you'd asked me last week I'd have said I was really pumped on the iPhone screen replacement they did for me. Now, not so much. I took my phone in there last Monday and they replaced the screen for me. When they handed it back to my I noticed that my forward facing screen wasn't working. The guy took a look at it and may have even opened it back up to ensure everything was connected right. He said something about how another part connected to it was working, that it could be a software issue, that I should try figuring out if it was a software issue and, if not, bring it back and (I could've sworn he said) they'd replace the FF camera for me. Saturday, five days after the screen was replaced, I dropped my phone. And it was a minor one. I was surprised to see that the screen had a fresh crash across it. Otherwise it still functions fine. I called today to ask what software things I could do to determine whether the FF camera issue was software related and they suggested that I just bring the phone in for them to look at since they weren't super busy. I just returned from there, where they told me they would cover the labor, not the part, on my FF camera and that, since I'd save money on the labor, should do the screen as well. Maybe I misheard when I thought he said they'd "cover the camera" and not "only the labor" and maybe my minor drop was that magical minor drop that breaks the screen. But I'm still not feeling great about the quality of the replacement screen (i.e. how easily it broke) or the whole FF camera experience and I think I'll take my iPhone screen business elsewhere. For what it's worth, this place is worth a visit just to look at all of the old Apple products and they look to have some great deals on used Macs. read more

My laptop began running its fan more than ever so I called the free Apple support service. They told me I needed to upgrade my operating system - that was the reason for the increase in fan. They walked me through that process. Once I had that accomplished i went to my Quickbooks app where years of information is kept and i used it all the time..but it was no longer compatible with the new Big Sur operating system. Another call to Apple and they had me undo the previous step which erased EVERYTHING on the computer..I was in despair, went to Boulder Mac Repair and they fixed everything for a very reasonable fee, were extremely friendly and patient. I can't recommend them highly enough..they are my new permanent Mac people. read more

I just moved to Boulder 7 days ago - and this is the only place I will take my computers from now on! Jason & Jessie are MAC GODS. First, I spilled Water & Emergen-c all over my Brand New MacBook Pro (barely a month old). I thought for sure it would be a brick. But I called Jason, and he told me that they have an 85% success rate with fixing water damaged Macs...so I took a chance. 3 days later, Jessie called to let me know that my Mac had been successfully repaired (YIPPEE). The repair only cost me $180.00. I picked it up, but the battery had trouble holding a charge. I called Jason, and he said that sometimes happens with water damaged machines. I took it back in - and Jason switched out a small part and had it fixed for me within 10 minutes. No extra charge. I'm so grateful to Jason, Jessie & Boulder Mac Repair for getting me back to work in record time. They are currently fixing up my old Black MacBook so I'll have a backup computer in case of future emergencies. read more

TL;DR Boulder Mac Repair offered a minimum $95 option and leaving computer for 4-5 days even though they were aware of a free 30 second fix. Two of my 4 USB-C ports on my MacBook Pro stopped working. I brought my laptop to Boulder Mac Repair. Dusty said there was nothing coming out of the two ports and the remaining two were failing as well. He said things like "cascading failure" and "motherboard issue" (not as a diagnosis but as possibilities). He said that I could leave the laptop for a minimum $95 diagnostic and then 4-5 day wait time to get my computer back. I wasn't ready yet to take that step as the laptop was essential for my work. I wanted to research alternatives. That evening, as Dusty predicted, the other two ports also died. I could no longer even power up my laptop. I was desperate to get it back to the shop as quickly as I could but first I did a search about the issue. I found that there was a 30 second fix that required resetting the system management controller (SMC). It only required pressing buttons while shutting down and restarting. All my ports are now functioning. I called them back to see if they either were not aware of the SMC reset fix or was something else going on. Dusty reported that he was indeed aware of that fix. He said it does not work 99% of the time. While that may be true - I do not know - I would have expected a service that would have at least attempted the fix before suggesting something that would have been highly costly in money and time. read more

Took my iPhone in after it stopped charging. Chad clearly explained the possible issues, ran a few tests and then had to deliver the bad news that it was the motherboard and the phone was shot. I had an interview I'd done the day before that I had yet to download on the phone and without it I was screwed. Chad was kind enough to slide in another battery and let me download the interview before I had to take my phone to Apple, which just got swapped out. Deceptive advertising on their website made me waste an hour round trip going to their shop for data recovery on a failing MacBook Pro hard drive. Their site clearly states (in red letters, no less!) that "typical charges are $60-$90" for this service. Then, when I finally get there, the guy says that data recovery starts at $150. Period. When I asked about their website and what it said there he became even more rude and just repeated, "Data recovery starts at $150". I had just been at the Flatirons Apple store and they were the ones that gave me the card for this business. Needless to say, I went right back to the Apple store and spoke with the manager. They were very apologetic and told me that I wasn't the first customer to complain about this place. Then came the icing on the cake. They told me that this place isn't even an authorized Apple repair center! I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this joke of a business. Customer service and honesty mean more than price. I love wearing my "classic" click wheel iPod, as I love listening to music. This is totally my fault, but I continuously get the headphone cord hooked on things, such as drawerknobs, the edges of furniture, etc. So, one last catch of the cord and I can suddenly only hear out of the left side. Not wanting to get rid of it, I emailed Boulder Mac Repair outlining the problem and asking if it can be fixed. I get an email back within 10 minutes (possibly even 5 minutes, I don't remember for sure at this point), saying that they do that all the time and it'll cost $50. Deal. I take the iPod up there on Thursday, June 5, and talk to Jeremy who goes to the back and looks around, stating that they don't currently have the parts to fix it, but they can order the part or go to the Denver store to get some. He then tells me he will call on Tuesday. He also tells me that it will cost $60 instead of $50, because $50 for the labor and $10 for the part. I have no problem with that. Tuesday rolls around and at about 5:15 (they close at 6 pm), I hadn't heard from Jeremy, so I call, just to check on the status. Jeremy answers and gives me a rushed "We don't have the parts. We'll have to order them or go down to Denver to get them." Which I think is odd, because I would have assumed that they would have ordered the part(s) in the four days since I went into the store. I ask if it would be ready by Friday, because I was going out of town on Monday, and would like to have it back back that. Jeremy says he doesn't know and that he'll call me and hangs up. So, I wait for Jeremy's call. And wait. And wait some more. After a month total (so, 2 1/2 weeks after my first call to them to check on the repair), I call back to find out what's going on and get a manager who I believe was named Dave. He apologizes again, saying that he just took over "a couple of weeks ago." So, nobody noticed my iPod sitting there waiting to be worked on? He even mentioned that there was a Post-It note on it that said, "Needs parts ordered," but that there was no record of the parts being ordered. After a month. Dave apologizes for the time it has taken on my iPod, looks up some information, and then tells me that it can't be repaired because they can't order the part. He says that he won't charge me labor for the diagnosis, though. Come to find out that Apple won't allow repairs like that on iPods and I would have to send it in to them to get it replaced. I mean, if that's the case, that's fine. But why did it take a total of a month to tell me that, especially when I was reassured, both by email and in person, that this would be a no problem repair? read more

I have had several devices repaired by BMR and when they were done by Rebecca, the work was exceptional. Even bordering on miraculous. Sadly, I went in for an iPad battery repair recently and it took weeks longer than I expected (I understand there were problems with shipping, but if they are just buying random parts from eBay, that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence) and I discovered that Rebecca has moved abroad to continue her education. I wish her the best in all her endeavors, but BMR has lost its edge. I might be coming back, but I will now be checking out other options before I do. read more

These folks are amazing!! I doused my MacBook with coffee - Apple store wanted $800 to wipe it clean and MAAAYBE fix it, but tried to just sell me a new one for $1200. Boulder Mac Repair not only salvaged all of my info and restored my laptop as it was, but the whole repair cost me $600 and I got all my stuff back!
