I booked this place not knowing it was 15 miles from Boulder out in the country. Very outdated. Room had acoustical tile ceiling that had been painted.No coat hangers or closet, bed was horrible.... old and smelly.Tiny "bathroom " with tub/shower and toilet. Sink was in the room! when we arrived I told desk person we could not stay the night.( My husband is a cancer patient and I was concerned about the condition of the furnishings,carpet etc.) Our room also looked out on the garbage dumpsters. He told me we had to pay and could not get $1469.72 refunded for the 3 nights. Talk about price gouging! We spent a sleepless night and left early the next morning. I have no intention of paying what they charged and they should be ashamed of an old youth hostel being passed off as a boutique inn. The only reason I booked this dump was it was graduation weekend in Boulder and impossible to find a hotel in town or nearby a couple of months prior.(We ended up staying at an Omni hotel further away from Boulder. It cost under 300. per night and our room was huge, very clean, had a closet and luggage racks etc.) The young man at the desk when we checked in was very pleasant and understood my frustration with the quality of the room. He contacted the owner right away when i told him we could not stay . Owner finally responded the next day saying we had to pay. I called Expedia and they tried to get refund...owner refused. We were in Boulder for Parent's Weekend and were a little surprised the hotel was so far off the beaten path but were really happy to be in a quiet area surrounded by trails and a nice neighborhood. The hotel employees were very nice and the room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. This place isn't fancy but everything was perfect for what we needed during this busy weekend with our college kid. I will definitely stay again, especially if I'll be visiting longer as there's a ton of storage in the room for clothes/skis and a kitchen if I want to cook for myself. read more

This boutique hotel was far away from most of the Boulder crowd, but the price was worth it -- about half that of the competitors in Boulder. The room was very clean and well-stocked, a little dated but very doable. The "breakfast" left a little to be desired -- mainly carbs -- but if one wanted a "continental breakfast" it was adequate. The floors were tile, and the floor was quite cold early in the morning (in March), so bring your slippers if you have a tendency to be bothered by cold on your feet. Great price, spacious room, and friendly staff are the main reasons for my favorable review. We were looking for a cheap place to stay with a hot tub. The price was too good to be true, so I did not have high expectations. I was surprised how spacious our room was. The facilities is also extremely quiet; I barely every saw anyone in the lobby unless it was breakfast time. The continental breakfast wasn't anything special. Not hot foods were provided. But I am satisfied with the foods that were provided such as fruit, yogurt, toast, muffins, cinnamon rolls, hard boiled eggs, coffee, and juice. Boulder Twin Lakes Inn charges extra fees post-stay, which is unethical and ridiculous. I would stray far away from such a business. Be forewarned! I made a Booking.com reservation. I looked for a motel for my wife and me for the night. I filtered by pet-friendly motels and Boulder Twin Lakes Inn came up. It gave me a price of $86.95 for 2 guests. When I got to the motel, nobody was on duty, strange I thought. There was a sign on the reception desk saying to call a number, which I did. Some guy answered and I said I had a reservation. The guy said to reach behind the counter and pull the envelope with the number 108 on it. There was no such envelope. I said the was an envelope with 109 on it. He said that was fine and told me my room key was in it. We both hung up the phone. Nothing else was asked of me about my check-in. I hung up the phone and went to my room. The next morning, I'm walking out the door and the dude says to me as I walk by the front counter, "You have to pay for your pets." I said, "What?" He said, "I need to charge you for your pets." I told him it's bullshit to tell me of a charge after I purchase a service and walked out. Sure enough, the jerk charged my credit card a second time the day after my stay for another $20. It's beyond unethical to check into a motel and be given a firm price ahead of a stay, then to stay and be charge extra fees after your stay. If I trashed the place, I can understand, but I was not told of such a charge ahead of time, so I call bullshit. If the guy was minding the counter when I came into the motel and told me of the dollar amount of the pet charge ahead of my stay, I would have gone to another motel where they don't charge such a fee, but he did not give me that option. That's his problem, not mine! On top of disputing this charge with my credit card company, the Boulder Twin Lakes Inn gets this review. read more

The Twin Lakes Inn is a bit outside of town, but well worth the extra 5 minute drive. Located in a beautiful and quiet residential neighborhood, the inn is just minutes away from some amazing running and hiking trails. Runners will love this place! You also get an excellent view of the mountains, are near the Boulder Reservoir, can take a convenient bus into town, or pop up north to the darling town of niwot. Rooms are cheap, clean, and the staff is friendly and professional. read more

I don't know why this place isn't getting more stars. It's absolutely charming. It's very quiet, the guy who works at the front desk is helpful and funny, and the rooms have everything you need. My room has a big tv, two queen size beds, a fold-out couch, a work area, a cute kitchen table, microwave, and some basic kitchen utensils. It's getting really chilly in Boulder, so setting the heater on at night worked really great- it didn't get too hot, which is rare for a hotel heater. I haven't explored much around the inn, but it looks beautiful and I see many people walking, biking, and running. I wish I could explore more! This place is definitely a must if you're looking to be close to downtown Boulder (10 minutes) but you want to escape the hustle. read more

This place is right out of the 70's. The room that my mother and I stayed in was outdated, the door stuck and was difficult to open, the carpet was coming up around the door and the room had a stench to it. The Wi-Fi, as already noted, was terrible because it was not guarded by a password so anyone could use it which was annoying seeing as my mother and I were just passing through and wanted to look up some things online. The air conditioning unit was loud, annoying and outdated as well. On the other hand, the bed was comfortable, however after traveling and being as tired as we were, that is not saying much. Breakfast is included. Hard boiled eggs, cereal, mini pastries, oatmeal and toast. There was also select fruit. Overall, I would not stay there again. It was out of the way and yes, the price is one of the lowest for this touristy town but it definitely could have been better. read more

Everyone else here, for better or for worse, pretty accurately described the place's decor, food, et cetera. Yeah, mostly true stuff. I was just there for one night, and my funky room was fine. Old stained carpet, but other than that, it wasn't scary to sleep there. It didn't stink. It was clean. It is in a suburb subdivision neighborhood, which I thought was interesting. Just trust the GPS. The staff I encountered was nice, and helpful, pointing me to Avery Brewery for a good meal. Its no national chain and if I really need to get online for work or use my cell phone (*AT&T is a dead zone there), I'd be disappointed. The other guests I saw were almost all either from Japan, or senior citizens. It was quiet enough. To me, it felt like some funky family-owned ski lodges I've stayed in, without being anywhere near a ski resort. I'd probably stay there again for the price and location to where I have to do business in Boulder, but I don't think its a place I'd take my girlfriend if I was planning to go to a nice hotel for vacation days. read more

I was looking for an affordable place while I took a weekend course at BCMT, and this was just fine for the money. The bathroom was quite small and the sink was outside in the main room, oddly next to the sink for the "kitchen" (really a mini frig and a microwave along a counter). The bed was fine, but the A/C was quite noisy and took a while to really kick in. The breakfast was mini bagels, fruit, some mini muffins, hard boiled eggs, cereal, and juice. Nothing fancy but fine by me. There is also one computer off the lobby for guest use. I did not use the hot tub but there is one in back. Parking is free. There is a trail behind the hotel, but be warned and take bug spray--I didn't have any any and got a slew of bites (which obviously I do not hold the inn accountable for). It's a little bit outside town, but I would stay there again if I needed an affordable place to stay in the area. read more

I was sceptical when I found Twin Lakes because the price was good and because they actually had availability on a busy weekend. But I made the reservation and am really glad I did! The location is unexpected, tucked back in a residential area. The grounds were nice, quiet and clean. Lots of parking as well. The check-in experience was a first for me...there was a note that said basically "find your envelope in this basket, sign the paper inside then take your key". At first I thought it was odd, but really isn't that all you need? Do you really need someone sitting there all day to do that exact same thing for you? I got over it quickly. The rooms are not high end, and yes the other reviews mentioning general cleanliness are accurate, but I am not the type of guy that stays at the Ritz-Carlton - somehow it just felt homey and welcoming and comfortable. I appreciated the kitchenette, flat-screen and the USB port on the alarm clock so I could easily keep my phone charging at night. If I had any complaint...it is that the halls are really noisy in the morning, and I know that's not the hotel's fault that people slam doors at 6:00am, but every door slam seemed to rattle the entire hallway. I plan to go back and spend another weekend in Boulder soon and will book with Twin Lakes Inn again. read more

Overall, this place was very lovely. It's a quaint, quirky little inn with great accommodations for the price. It's very quiet, which I loved. They even have a bookshelf by the stairs with book ranging from Laura Ingalls Wilder to An Introduction to Modern Optics. It's a little dated, but I found it had everything I needed. This place is not super close to downtown, but I was able to grab a Lyft pretty easily. Uber doesn't seem to have much out here. I'd say this was the only downside for me personally. The staff was great. They even let me grab a few things from the breakfast area after breakfast was over (I was running and didn't get back until after it ended). Very polite and helpful. There are pretty running trails around the Twin Lakes area, and the staff even helped point me in the right direction. Note that the staff might not be around the check in / check out counter, but you can check in by signing a form and leaving it at the front desk / use the key drop when you check out. I did laundry and had trouble with the washer working, he addressed it right away. Breakfast was average, but area was clean and well stocked. The bed was comfortable and the front desk staff was friendly. That's the good side. The down side is that it seems the owners are cutting serious corners to save money. I'm ok with saving money but I wasn't even able to take a shower this morning because there was no hot water. Not being able to take a hot shower in the morning is a big deal to me. I was looking to stay another night but I'm going to spend a little more and get a place with hot water. The wifi is inconsistent at best which isn't a big deal for me but might be for some. To say this place was abysmal would be generous. I'm trying really hard to think of something positive to say about it but there only thing that comes to mind is that the room was spacious. First know that the word "inn" is very misleading. This is not an inn at all. These are nothing more than converted apartments that were clearly not designed for hotel living. It's also very evident that the current owners have cut every corner, and made as few modifications as possible, to make it even resemble a hotel or inn. There are certain things you need when you travel (i.e. surface space) and certain things you don't (i.e. a dishwasher). There was clearly no thought given to these types of things when the place transitioned from residential to commercial. And these things might not even have been so bad if the place was at least well maintained, but this "inn" is in total disrepair. We checked in to our room to find a partially drank water bottle, outlets that don't work, a non-working hair dryer, flooring coming apart, a toilet paper roll that broke off of the mounting, and giant holes in the wall behind the toilet. The decor, as one reviewer so eloquently put it, was Salvation Army chic with a hint of garage sale leftovers. There were no surfaces to spread out our things because half the room is a kitchenette. In a first floor room you hear every step your upstairs neighbors take. Their "breakfast" is laughable, featuring sliced bread and stale cereal. If that's not enough to deter you from staying here then their after hours check-in procedure should be. Guests who arrive after business hours may help themselves to an envelope left at the front desk, marked with their name and room number. No verification of identity. Nothing. This does not inspire much of a sense of security. If you have a choice between this and a chain hotel, spend a few dollars more and CHOOSE THE CHAIN. For a place like Twin Lakes to charge nightly rates in the same price range as branded hotels is almost insulting. There's just no comparison. Chain hotels all the way for me from now on. read more

My family has had two experiences with them now. The first, my husband and I had just driven 24 hours straight to get to an interview for him at 9:00. We got to Boulder at 6:30, and found that every place was booked solid. Desperate because he needed to shower and dress we found this gem of a place. After explaining our situation they let us early check in for that night right then. The couple was so nice to us and our small children. Tonight, I called for reservations for tomorrow and because again we have somewhere to be early, they're letting us check in early, since the room is vacant tonight. Anytime we need to stay in Boulder, this will be the first place I call hands down. They've been so accommodating, not something I'm use to finding in the hotels where we normally stay. read more

One star is generous, owner jacked the rate to $180. night due to high demand for rooms during CU Boulder graduation week. This is a converted office building, not a purpose-built hotel. Dirty carpets, cold shower, dingy and dilapidated furnishings. $50. a night is about what this place is worth. Reminds me of a youth hostel, in which you have no expectations but a clean bed to sleep in. The decor is vintage Salvation Army or garage sale leftovers. Unfortunately we thought it would be OK for 2 nights, but decided it was too much of a dump, checked out early and headed to a Marriott Courtyard at same rate. It's in a residential neighborhood so there's trails and sidewalks all around the place. The rooms are very simple but have a European feel to them. I'm writing this from the room with a poor Internet connection. This is frustrating, because I had to work tonight and chose to skip out on one of the many fine restaurants to do just that. My partner has no access to the Internet whatsoever, making this especially irritating. The building looks like a regular town home, and this room looks like a studio apartment. I liked the little basket with envelope and instructions on how to get to my room. On the bad side, the room smells musty. The good--clean bathroom, soft sheets, and a kitchen should you want one. If you're an endurance athlete in town for a race or training camp, it would be tough to beat this place. I originally found it randomly by searching for a place to stay near the Boulder Reservoir. As we pulled up to the parking lot, I thought "hmmm - interesting location here in the neighborhood... wonder what we got into." Then I walked in, spoke with the owner, learned about the cool history of the place - and I love it. The owners are former olympic runners. The walls are covered with autographed pics of many of the runners from around the world who have stayed there while training in Boulder. They have 2 kitchens so you can prepare whatever food you need pre-race or while training. It's just a couple miles from the Boulder Reservoir and is tucked back in a neighborhood by a park for kids to play on swings or athletes to enjoy some time stretching/core work in the grass. Is it fancy? Oh my word no. If that's what you want, this isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for a great spot where the hosts completely understand your needs as an endurance athlete - or a quiet place for your family to enjoy a get-away, then you can't beat it. I hesitated to write this review because I plan to make this my "go to" spot for races in the future and don't want y'all to fill it up! :-) However, the owners were so nice, I couldn't help but leave some comments. This might be one of the worst places you can stay "in" Boulder. For a few more dollars, you can easily get a room centrally located in the city, but that isn't even the problem. First, the "innkeeper" is never there! The one time I saw him, I noticed he had written my name and credit card number into something similar to an address book--how unprofessional! And since they just leave all the keys out in an envelope, the innkeeper can't even remember which rooms he's already rented out. The breakfast is a total joke--the fruit is ok if you can get to it in time, but mini, stale bagels and gross muffins along with cereal is simply cheap. The wifi barely works, and the other guests are, quite frankly, a pain to interact with (and seem to basically be friends with the owners--that would be fine, except there is one guest, and I tried this place twice in one month, that will literally harass you even though it's hard to understand what he's saying; you'll recognize this guest if you notice the grocery bags on his feet under the tevas). There might be positive reviews from YEARS ago when the owners were different, but the negative reviews that are from within the last year are far more accurate. Oh, and make sure to shower in the middle of the night or you might not have hot water! read more

The beds were comfortable but other than that Everything was terrible. The water never got hot and the drain was clogged. Staff was mean and half the time it was like no one worked there. The alarm went off in the middle of the night and the room keys were an actual key. If you loose the key it's an extra charge of $25, and there was no bob attached or anything. The plugs didn't work and the whole place smelled like cheap fabric softener. For $150 a night it was not worth the money. read more

I would never recommend that anyone stay here. We had a terrible experience here and actually had to leave our second night in because we couldn't bear to stay there any longer. First of all, do not expect any customer service. There is no one manning the front desk to greet you upon arrival or help you with anything that may come up during your stay. The place had a very odd smell when you enter. Our room was very outdated. We had very limited hot water from the shower. Both my husband and I felt itchy from sleeping in the bed. We asked for room cleaning service and it never came (that's when we left). We were under the impression that there would be breakfast (and counted on it being there because we had an early morning conference to go to). The breakfast was nothing more than some cereal and some hard mini-bagels and pinwheels (gross!). My husband called to talk to the inn keeper and the owner told him he couldn't come talk to him because he was an hour away. He was argumentative with my husband about our concerns--again, do not expect any customer service. Staying her made our trip extremely stressful. I would NEVER recommend this to anyone!! read more

If you're looking for a classy place, you won't find it here. I can't confirm this for a fact, but the only other "guests" present appeared to be homeless people, placed there by social services. Don't count on any wifi internet. It disconnects every 5 minutes. I was unable to get it at all in my room. I had much work to do, and I wasn't a happy guest, after finding all of this out. I felt extremely uncomfortable and outright embarrassed being asked very personal questions regarding a disability by the mostly absentee manager, a Mr. Neil Armstrong. A malodorous man weighing nearly 400 lbs., in flip-flops, filthy jogging pants, and a dirty undershirt (in 20 degree winter weather) rudely stood in the main corner of the "breakfast area", blocking all other guests' access to the food. Then he spilled the orange juice all over the breakfast bar counter, creating a mess. The owner cleared my full plate from the breakfast area and put it in the hall to to prepare her own food in the hotel guest area, as I turned my back for 10 seconds in an attempt to find any coffee in the empty coffee pots. Definitely not an accommodation for the professional person. The owners are more interested in their awards for their marathon running, than providing customer service, or operating a respectable hotel business. You can stay at a better place, cheaper. I wish I did. I got no work done. Note: e-cigarettes, which emit no smoke, nor odor, nor ashes, nor involve any flames - aren't allowed in your room. And if "arrogant political correctness" got an award, the two pretentious owners would get it. The room telephone was a broken phone literally pulled from the Hilton trash dumpster with Hilton hotel's information blacked out with marker and covered up with stickers. I picked it up and dialed. It only crackled, didn't work. The maid's laundry filled both guest washing machines. I had to use one in a powder room. The room coffee maker kept shorting out, until I feared I might be electrocuted. Decor is from the 1970s. Furniture had broken legs and drawers. Avoid this trash dump entirely. read more

This is a great place to stay. The prices are super affordable, the rooms are lovely. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Its in a nice residential neighbourhood. The housekeeping staff do a great job of cleaning up the rooms. They are very dedicated to their work. Another great feature is that they have free complimentary breakfast with lots of options. We had a room with a kitchen so if you are interested in cooking while you are there, you can book a room with a kitchen or you can also use the common kitchens that are available. If you want to do the laundry and dont have change, dont worry, they have a change machine in the laundry room. Or you can just ask the staff at the reception and they will get it for you in a jiffy. The kitchens are really good, stocked with all possible cookware you could possibly need. If you have kids, they do have a childrens park too. The allow pets at the inn too. I really felt at home there and if I needed to stay at an inn ever again when i am at Boulder, I wouldnt have to think twice about it - Boulder Twin Lakes Inn is my favorite. My boyfriend and I took a last minute detour to Boulder while on a road trip, we needed a place to stay. This one seemed like a pretty cost efficient place compared to the rest of the market....... booked through priceline about a 1/2 hour before we checked in. However when we got there, they hadn't recieved anything from priceline yet. But the guy at the counter was very friendly (maybe a little too chatty, ha) he worked it out for us and got us in a room. The hotel is a bit dated but not gross feeling. There were a few things I think they could have easily fixed up to make the stay a bit nicer... there were knicks in the walls- easy fixes. And the room keys are actual keys, which is fine, but they give them to you as a straight up, singular key. They could throw an $.08 key chain on there so you don't loose it every 15 minutes. And lastly, I hope you like running and baby Jesus, cause your gonna see a lot of both. read more

I was attracted to this place by the price, which is quite affordable, but once you arrive you can easily see why. There is no receptionist to greet you, but instead an envelope with your name, address, room number and key is just sitting on the desk for anyone to look through. The decor is outdated, which isn't really a downside. Although, you DO NOT want to use the hot tub. I was a little concerned about using the jacuzzi, which was really just stagnated, warm, cloudy water until the jets were turned on, but after a few minutes you could see dark brown bubbles forming in the corners of the tub, and my boyfriend pointed out a very distinct, brown, slimy line across my arms from the water. A shower, mental and physical, was necessary after that experience. Decent accommodations for the price, but do not expect luxury. read more

I stayed at the Twin Lakes on the first of January and the experience was great. The rooms are very comfortable and large and the staff friendly. It's a nice place to stay if you want to be close enough to the Eldora Ski resort and downtown Boulder. We stayed here January 2012 and when we settled down to bed we found tiny black crawlers on the top sheet. This was close to midnight, and we called the innkeepers who told us to sleep on the couch and they'll deal with it in the morning. They had empty rooms but refused to move us, which I found intolerable. Exhausted from a day of hiking and out on the town, both my wife and I in our late 60's, were told to sleep on the couch. We unfolded it to find a squeeky misshaped mattress with the springs sticking up. With not a wink of real sleep and all night the feeling of creepy crawlers in the room, we went down in the morning to check out and get a refund, but the innkeepers told us they were busy until 10 am with breakfast and to come back later! We told them we were checking out immediately and wanted a refund but they gave us a number to the owner, refusing to reimburse us. Even more intolerable we have yet to hear from the owner. No doubt the owners pay reviewers or the innkeepers to post positive reviews. If you check you will find some of the honest reviews with one to three stars, stating what the place truly is, a reconverted office building with no hot water and musty smell, and they allow smokers!!! read more

I would not recommend this place to women traveling alone due to a very aggressive innkeeper named "Neil Armstrong". The room was large, relatively clean, and for the price, it is definitely a place I would recommend if not for a terrifying experience from hotel staff. The hotel had made an error with our booking, and apparently did not enter our stay into the computer. In response, a man dressed in athletic clothing who did not identify himself as hotel staff pounded on our door demanding that he needed to know who was in the room and we needed to open the door immediately. After he continued to make aggressive demands through the door, he eventually identified himself as the "innkeeper". Being a young female I probably should not have opened the door but I did. After walking to the front desk he informed me that he had no idea who I had given my credit card information to, and when I expressed that I was alarmed by that, he backpedaled and said that I had actually spoken with the owner. The "innkeeper" continued to speak aggressively, did not offer an apology for their error, and if I did not have the stomach flu, I would have left immediately. The next morning at checkout, the "innkeeper" was dressed in hotel uniform and was very pleasant. When I brought up how the experience from the night before was unacceptable, he became visibly defensive/tense, and still offered no semblance of an apology. I stayed here for a week with a family of 4 earlier this month. The location is in a quiet residential neighborhood with a park in the back utilized by the neighborhood and Twin Lakes is a short walk down the street with great walking trails which was nice. This is also just minutes away from the Celestial Seasonings Factory. There is a small shopping center about 5 min from the location which has a supermarket and a few resteraunts which proved to be very convenient to stock up the mini fridge in the room to save on food costs. The room however only has a microwave and fridge so some of your cooking choices are limited as the upstairs kitchen was off limits to guests during my stay due to the usage by the Japanese running club. Yes the rooms are oddly arranged, the carpet is ready for replacement and the room does not get cleaned during the visit but this was a great value and the room itself was clean upon arrival, offered enough space for everyone over the span of a week including closets and drawers so that all of your stuff can be out of the way and in a nice neighborhood. Due to the fact the room doesn't get cleaned I had to do dishes and make beds on my vacation but my job as mom never gets a vacation when the kids are with me and we are on a budget. Clean towels are available to you at any time in the guest laundry downstairs. The breakfast choices are good for kids since there are multiple cereal options, fruit, yogurts, bagels, etc but it does get monotonous after a week however, again for budget concious people you deal with it. This was perfect for our family since we were sightseeing in both Boulder and Estes Park so it saved us an extra 15 min drive to get to Estes since the hotel is more outside of town. read more
