Good location (near outdoor activities and a short walk to Pearl Street). It's an old motel with a trendy makeover. PROS. I appreciated the water kettle and pourover coffee in the room. I find Keurigs and hotel coffee makers kinda gross, so boiling water and doing pourover was fun and seemed cleaner. Parking is available and free. Firepit area is nice. We enjoyed beers there. Didn't have time to buy and use the smores kits they sell, but that was a fun offering. CONS. Website touts recycling and eco-friendly products. There were no recycle bins in our room or on the property (as best I could find), and beer was served in plastic cups (not bio-based). Shower head didn't work properly and was certainly not water-saving. There are no housekeeping services, so I had to go downstairs to get new coffee packets each day (I did not--if I had to leave my room I might as well walk to the delicious Boxcar Coffee instead) or to ask for a new towel. We wore shower sandals in the bathroom (Target sells them--very inexpensive) and slippers in our room because it seemed necessary. They mention a climbing wall in the common area, but every day of our stay the room was reserved for ap different event. Good to know if that's a big selling point for you. Staff are doing double-duty. The person serving at the bar was also responsible for checking in/out new guests and bringing towels to your room if you request them. Basecamp Boulder is a renovated motel in a great location (walking distance the the campus and Pearl Street). The theming is very cute and there are a lot of amenities including a game room, fire pit and rock wall. Overall I think given the price this place is a great find. I particularly think it's a great location for potential students on a campus visit or younger people wanting to explore Boulder. The location and the amenities (we actually didn't end up using these) were unique and fun. I also really enjoyed the staff. The only reason I'm rating my experience 3 stars instead of 4 is because of cleanliness. We may have been unlucky and ended up in a less than stellar room. While the room as a whole seemed reasonable clean the shower was pretty gross. Cleanliness is something very important to me when traveling so it's something I look to first. I took a few picture of our bathroom. Was it filthy? No. Was it well cleaned and cared for? Absolutely not. This may not be a big deal for some so I wouldn't write off the place on my review alone. Other things to consider (not a negative, but feel important to disclose). - Renovated motel. Most rooms are small and the doors enter to the outside. - Pillows are very small. I always bring my own pillow and I suggest you do to if possible. - Beds are soft. I enjoy a soft bed but many do not. I slept very well, but those with back issues may have concerns with mattress. - The standard rooms don't have mini fridges. This is clear when you book but it seems some people still find this upsetting. The theming is "camping" so they provide a cooler in each room. - parking is very tight. It took us awhile to pull into our spot when crowded. If you're lucky you can find a spot right in front of your room. - pet-friendly (with a fee) Overall our experience was good. I wish we had the opportunity to explore the amenities but I did take a look and it looked very nice. This isn't a fancy four star hotel but that's the charm. There is a lot of appeal and I think the only thing that can be improved upon is cleanliness, especially during "these times". If cleanliness is improved I would definitely recommend this place to a friend (younger friends, friends interested in attending the school, those who are visiting to enjoy the outdoors). read more

One of the best hospitals/hotels I've stayed at, and I've been to over 30 countries. I love how this location has a small yoga space with two peloton bikes, a mini climbing wall, and Jacuzzi/Sauna. The decor in the room was en pointe. They're definitely going for the retro feel for the rugged traveler. For example, there's no refrigerator, but a cooler (I guess you'd have to fill it up with ice?) and the carpet while older looking isn't dirty. Will definitely stay here again when I'm in the area! read more

I had a really bizarre stay here. 99% of it was fine but I had a very uncomfortable interaction with the GM upon check out. I left a justified negative Google review because of the way management decided to blame me for a simple miscommunication by a very friendly junior staff member. It could have been resolved easily but they treated me like I was completely in the wrong then replied to my Google review with multiple fabrications (they said I made a staff member cry!) - I am sorry for the time I've spent on these reviews but I hope that someone sees them and takes note that there is a very flippant and unprofessional culture of the management of this place. Basecamp Boulder is definitely not my normal style of lodging, being a Motel and all, but I wen't The motel served it's purpose, a clean place to rest our heads at night. The room was large, pretty well appointed, and clean. The kitchenette in our room would really come in handy for families with children I think. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and clean. On the down side, the carpet could use an upgrade for sure. The bathroom was tiny, with not much water pressure. All of the common walkways to all of the rooms at street level, were very shabby. The sidewalk concrete was cracking and chipping on all of the walkways to the rooms. And then the carpet in the glassed in walkway to our room (108 or 109, I can't remember), was filthy. They need housekeeping to vacuum it daily, after they replace it first. It's definitely more of a family motel, and that's what I expected. The main common area is a large room, with lounging area, picnic tables, a rock wall for the kids to climb, and table tennis for all. They had a smaller indoor pool, (or large jacuzzi) that I didn't try, and a sauna that looked nice but we didn't try that either. The communal dining area used mainly at breakfast, was nice. The coffee bar was cute, though they need to have decaf coffee available too. There are also a couple nice seating areas outside, one with a nice fire pit they light during the night. They also have a little gym, with a couple cardio machines, some weights, and yoga mats. The morning and daytime staff were always happy to help and answer any questions you may have. Great attitudes, friendly, and competent. The evening front desk staff were a little more uptight about things, but were helpful too. Housekeeping always did a great job cleaning our room. And all the common areas were nice and clean too. If you stay at Basecamp Boulder, I recommend the Village Coffee Shop for breakfast. It's about a 5 minute walk from the motel, and it serves a mean breakfast! Yum Yum!! read more

can I do zero stars? no housecleaning and when I asked I was told - sharply - that I should have reserved it in advance and that there was a "letter in the room that no one reads" that explained how to request housekeeping. I was told the house cleaner had gone home but I saw her working on the room next to mine. when I asked about a promotion for complimentary beer I was told my (full price) reservation didn't qualify. i wanted to cancel my third night and the manager never responded. rooms are clean but beat up - kitchenette has a few plastic glasses, plates and cups but no ability to cook beyond a microwave. so disappointing and I really felt it was a bait and switch given the $1400 I paid for three nights. read more

The lot is a nightmare. Always a little sketchy traveling during a pandemic, (I've always said that). So the new normal, at least the 2020 version, is sometime you have to make a trip even during a pandemic and duty called as a Father who's daughter was recently engaged and I needed to Meet the Parents (and the fiancé in Boulder). Travel tip number one: The packages you see on sites like Travelocity really are money savers. I was able to get a two person flight and hotel in Boulder for two nights for under $600. Screaming deal. Basecamp. Boulder seems to be the hottest place right now for hiking, biking, generally one of the coolest places in the West so I wanted to stay at a place that reflected that. Living in Corporate America for as long as I have, I've seen enough of nice, bougie, hotels and I wanted some personality and it appeared Basecamp had them in spades. And I was right. This is not a new build. These are some old, old bones with what appears to maybe have a new addition sometime in the last couple of decades or sooner (or later, hell, I don't know). Old bones be damned, this little hussy is the real deal. They didn't just slap a coat of paint on her and develop a slick marketing campaign. Some real thought and sweat equity has gone into Basecamp and it really shows. We stayed in the older section and the layout is your typical 1960ish basic hotel layout. Enclosed water closet with shower, vanity in the same room as the bed. Super nice touches to make it like a true basecamp. Beautiful Coleman cooler rather than a fridge-yes, they have ice available. Pump style shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner to reduce plastic consumption, location-specific artwork, and an open space patio and enclosed game room to have fun and make new friends (ok, maybe post-pandemic). And yes, the bed was terrific or I wouldn't even be writing this. Basecamp is two blocks or so off the main drag, super close to all kind of shopping and coffee shops. Highly recommend basecamp if you're looking for a fun night or two in Boulder. If you need a large room or bougie experience, probably should keep looking but if a lot full of Subarus with roof racks makes your heart race, this is your place. read more

We got this motel because of its friendliness with dogs and its incredible location. It did not disappoint. Staff where always available via text. The room was remodeled and very cute. We hardly spent tome on our room and quickly ventured to local crags for Rick climbing. We brought one crash pad and asked them if they would let us borrow one of theirs from their boulder wall and they graciously did. Additionally, they gave our dog a portable water bowl. read more

We loved this place!! We actually were originally staying at an Airbnb in Denver, but it was so bad and we loved Boulder even more that we decided to look for a place and found Basecamp. Not only was it decorated really nicely and cute, but the beds were super comfy, they had a small rock climbing wall/lounge room with a ping pong table that we had so much fun at, a hot tub that was really nice, fire pits outside with benches and a small beer and wine bar. The woman working at night and the man working during the day were so sweet and helpful I wish I remembered their names! Oh ya and the River was right behind Basecamp maybe a 6-8 min walk and it was a perfect secluded spot to get in! read more

We're in Boulder for the night, on our way to Utah. The photos online are great, so we decided to give it a shot. The location seriously makes this place worthy of 4 stars, all on its own (I know.. keep reading). We are close to shopping, restaurants, grocery, pharmacy, trails, bus stations, and bicycle share stations. You can get virtually anywhere you want to go in Boulder from this hotel, without having to drive. It's also right next to Naropa University, and the beautiful campus. Honestly, just walking down Araphoe Avenue is pretty great. The coffee bar inside the lobby is adorable and the menu looks like they're serving some good things for breakfast. It was made clear to us that breakfast and coffee are not included with the room price, so keep that in mind. There is also some really neat outside seating, equipped with a fire pit that they'll fire up for you. The sauna is completely out of order, looks cool in the photos, though. They've only got one shared washer and dryer, and 2 vending machines. The lounge is very neat, but it was SO HOT inside. The lounge has a rock wall, picnic tables, and table tennis - tons of things to do. The gym has 2 Pelotons. You don't really find hotels with $3,000 cycle machines. The only caveat is that this is the *only* cardio equipment. Literally just 2 Pelotons. They also have some dumbbells and yoga mats, but no treadmill or elliptical (gym essentials). The room is super cozy, and the decor is awesome. There is no fridge, like another reviewer mentioned, and no ice machines to fill the coolers they provide. It's well-lit, and pretty clean. The only issue with our room was that the room smelled HEAVILY of cigarette smoke when we walked in - right after we signed a waiver to promise we wouldn't smoke in the room. We didn't want to get charged for some other inconsiderate guest's nicotine habit, so went to the front desk to alert the staffer, who proceeded to have us wait while he went to our room to smell it for himself. OK, but he came back out to let us know it was "probably just one of the chemical cleaners they use". Yeah. Anyway, he offered to switch us rooms but we decided to deal with it. Turned out being okay, because the A/C really is mildewy, as mentioned by another reviewer, and that kind of drowned out the smoke smell. In addition, the Wi-Fi suuuuucks. I've got the internet to write this review, but not much else. That's fine though, we're here for a night, and we're not here just for the internet. They do have one of the better DirecTV packages in each room. Bottom line: I would not pay the hotel's regular prices ($180 before any package add-on), but it is pretty alright for my Expedia price of $120. The location and aesthetics pay for itself. This is definitely good for a night or few, just remember to stay open-minded. read more

Stayed here for 3 nights and happy we didn't pay full price. The rooms were dingy. The internet was almost non existent, unlike they're listing that promised high speed. The website was outdated and they never updated their amenities to fit post COVID protocols. The walls were paper thin and you could hear the sneezes of your neighbor. The manager clearly doesn't want to be there . Always anxious and put out . The help is not knowledgeable at all . The room was dark , gross carpet , the floor sunk in . The tv didn't work . The idea and decor for this place is an absolute adorable idea . The upkeep and maintenance are awful . The coffee availability in office is a nice idea and the coffee was decent . My husband never complains about hotels or travel he is very easy to please and not picky . Checked out of the hotel 30 mins ago. Beware room 223. The AC never worked right and it has been the hottest days in Boulder this year. We thought it would be ok at night when the AC could keep up and it did not. The front desk said they would have someone fix it up and then let us know. No one called ever, nearly loosing us the chance to find a new place. Later they said that the tech fixed it. Clearly someone is fibbing as the lobby was cooler than our room even with the thermostat set to 65 for hours. I doubt the lobby was set to 65. Needless to say a room with peeling paint in the bathroom, a broken AC and a lack of simple follow through from the front desk is not a recommended place. To put it bluntly I see this place as lipstick on a pig. Cool bar, climbing wall and more but when it comes to the core value of a motel... a nice cool, clean, well maintained room they failed. read more

This hotel IS walkable to downtown, but it is sort of a long walk. And at night the streets are not very well lit but we walked it anyway. This hotel seems to be targeted toward younger crowds. I loved the unique decor in the room. The room was clean and well maintained. They had 2 outdoor fire pits as well. Wish the breakfast was free but it costed extra so we went elsewhere. I'll be back! So to clarify, my experience here is 4 stars. This is probably a 3 star hotel at best. The lobby is adorable, and when I arrived there were folks at the "bar" calling me in. I decided to have a couple beers ($7) they have on tap- delicious and cold! The people staying there were fun to talk to, and people came and went. There was a fire outside in the fire pit, although it was too cold for me personally to partake in that. The room was really cute! You can definitely tell that this was a renovation. There are definitely some areas where you can see the results of that- carpet coming up, bead board peeling, bath tub seal peeling, etc. These things definitely should be repaired, but I believe they will be over time as this place continues to evolve. If they can do it right, this could be an excellent camp themed retro hotel in such a cool location in such a cool town! I enjoyed all the artwork in the rooms. The art is humorous and aesthetically pleasing. I didn't really see anything as cheesy. There is no ice and also no fridge in the room. The toilet area is also very small. No trash can in the toilet space, just in the sink area underneath. This can........... pose a problem.... for women. Anyway, location can't be beat and I support what they're trying to do here. Don't expect to be at the Ritz because 1) that's not what you paid for and 2) that's also not the aim of this place at all! ENJOY! read more

Back in early July, my wife and I attended the Dead and Company concert at Folsom Field. We did arrive in Boulder without any accommodations and we knew that it would be tricky to find a place. We drove by The Base Camp and decided to roll the dice and stop to inquire about a room. Well, sure enough, they were booked solid. With that said, the owner offered for us to stay in the parking lot overnight so we could have a safe place to sleep. We took her up on that. The employees were so friendly and accommodating. They even allowed us to use their facilities. I would recommend The Base Camp to all of my friends and family. Thank You very much. read more

If finding a place to sleep is important to you then DON'T stay here. The walls and floor are paper thin and you will be up all night with the noise. Also if you want towels that are fresh make sure you ask for them and in about a day they will be delivered to your floor- literally put on the floor by the the door where everyone walks. Finally if you need something from the staff they give you a handy texting option but don't bother using it because no one will answer (or the after hours number that is listed). So if sleeping, having clean towels, or a way to contact the front desk with issues is not important to you then this is your place. I will say the front desk staff were very receptive but ineffectual when we needed some help. Really disappointing experience for a great concept. read more

I was so stoked to check into Basecamp this weekend. The pictures online are beautiful and the location is definitely unbeatable. I was excited checking in, arriving in the modern renovated lobby with friendly, helpful staff, but was disappointed when I got to my room. This is advertised as a hotel - it's not - it's a converted old motel and the rooms are lackluster. There was paint peeling off of the walls, the fan in the bathroom made an obnoxious whirring sound whenever I turned on the light on, and the room was fairly cold unless I turned the heat up very high. I found the building was pretty loud and could hear my upstairs neighbor walking around, so had to keep the fan unit on to drown out the noise. The room is a monochromatic grey, and I found it really depressing - the bed, the tapestry (which was cute), the carpet. It could really benefit from some pop of color. The property is great, as I said the location is perfect to walk into town or access to the mountains. I enjoyed the common areas, especially the hot tub and the sauna. The main room is adorable with the bouldering wall and modern chic chairs. If you can get a cheap rate, it's totally worth it, especially in the expensive town of Boulder. However, I wish I knew what I was getting into before I committed to booking to set realistic expectations. read more

Friends were visiting from St. Paul Minnesota for a weekend, so I planned a Colorado staycation to show them around. Our first fun night was Boulder, CO, so we decided to pick Basecamp Boulder for its close proximity to Pearl Street. Basecamp Boulder is a fun hotel, somewhat like an older motor lodge that has been converted into a mountain style boutique hotel. I believe the desk said that the hotel was about 20 years old, and had previously been a Quality Inn...one of the top 5 Quality Inn locations in the United States. Walking into the front office and the desk, I knew this was going to be a fun hotel with lots of kitsch and style. The window behind the front desk was filled with horizontal planters, like a ladder of greenery up to the top of the window. To the side of the desk was a coffee and tea station and a small rack with Basecamp Boulder merchandise, and to the other side was a large sitting area and bar where guests could sit and relax, read, or order food and drinks during serving hours. The front desk and seating area are separated by very large ropes anchored into the ceiling and half wall, which I thought was a cool idea. And the steel cross beam light over the dining area was great. I want one for my dining room at home! Out the backdoor of the front office is a large outdoor seating area with a beautiful large fire pit, perfect for enjoying the evening. Further beyond the front office was the recreation room, with ping pong tables, picnic tables, and the entire wall is a climbing wall. The recreation room also has large garage doors that can be lifted to let the outdoors in. Beyond the recreation room is the indoor hot tub and sauna area. Huge hot tub. The hotel has the feeling of an older motor lodge simply because the rooms have exterior doors, and you can park along the hotel within very close proximity to your room. Our room was a king room, second floor, directly across from the front office. The room met our needs perfectly as we were in Boulder for a night out wondering Pearl Street. It's a very standard hotel room, large square, one large window next to the door, a king bed, nightstands on each side made of stacked wooden boards similar to giant Jenga, a large chair by the window, a large credenza with drawers, a closet in one corner, the bathroom located in another corner, and the television and coffee maker sat atop the credenza. Between the closet and the bathroom was a single sink vanity, so the vanity/sink area was within the room rather than inside the bathroom. The bathroom was small with room only for the toilet and the bathtub shower. This is not a bathroom in which someone would get ready, as there's not enough floor space in the bathroom to get dressed. Sticking with a camp theme and a boutique hotel feel, the décor of the room was definitely fun, with the giant Jenga night stands, the camp style lantern lights, the hipster "antler" art cracked me up and was definitely typical of Boulder...using bike handle bars as antlers vs. animal antlers, and the headboard was a large canvas map, printed in black, showing funny directions and points of interest in Boulder. Rather than refrigerators in the room, there are old styled aluminum coolers sitting in the room. Our room didn't have a cooler, however our traveling companions had a cooler in their room. Pretty funny, as I remember camping when I was little and using these same types of coolers as a chair. The hotel is close walking proximity to Pearl Street, which was great. We'd planned on using Lyft to get around town, but were happily surprised that the hotel is only a few blocks away from the center of shops, restaurants, and bars. No need to move the car, since parking was free, and no need to use Lyft since the location was awesome and we could easily stumble back to the room after a great night on Pearl Street. I definitely liked Basecamp Boulder. The hotel does offer made to order and pay breakfast, however we weren't up early enough to have breakfast, or to order coffee. Thankfully there is a convenience store about a block from the hotel. I would suggest Basecamp Boulder to anyone who is looking for a fun, relaxed hotel in the center of Boulder. Now, if you are the type of person who checks into a hotel and begins to nit-pick all of the little details, such as the appearance of the grout lines in the shower, then your eyes are going to find things that you might not like or might cause you to disagree with the price you are paying for the room. But remember, this is a camping themed hotel, the rooms are adequate and nicely appointed, it's a very central location right in the middle of Boulder, and Basecamp Boulder should really bring about a feeling of just having a good time. read more

This is definitely a motel that was given a slight upgrade but not quite fully and it shows. The front lobby and accommodations photograph well and have that cool, indie, hipster vibe. The front desk was very nice and sweet. The room itself first impression gives you a old motel with a new coat of paint feel. The bed itself is comfortable and sleeps well. However this is where all the generally nice updates come to a halt. The bathroom was SO horrendous that it made me question our stay entirely and it only gets worse upon closer inspection. Mind you... we were traveling amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and cleanliness should be at the upmost priority... First of all, the bathroom was in horrible condition. The edges of the paneling are peeling up, the tub has a crack in it, the flooring was broken, and you can see the repairs were done in a cheap & fast fashion. Did it function? Sure, was it what I was expecting? No. What I DEFINITELY wasn't expecting was to discover later in the night after we came back to the room exhausted from a day of driving and wandering around was hair... EVERYWHERE. Not our hair, hair left from when the bathroom was supposed to be new and clean from our check in. There was hair ON THE WALL, not just one hair, multiple random bits of hair plus completely random and completely cringe worthy pubic hair ON THE CEILING?! It was so late in the night I did my best to avoid touching anything and was forced to deal with it because the staffing was cut short due to COVID and no one was at the front desk. Needless to say my husband brought this to their attention & we cancelled our reservation. The manager was nice enough to "allow us to keep our discounted rate, normally the rate is $140" however paying $100 to sleep among other people's filth is apparently a fantastic deal in Boulder. E reserved us a room here when we came up from Denver for my birthday, and we both absolutely loved it! Here's why: 1. Location can't be beat. It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the Pearl Street Mall, so lots of great restaurants and things within walking distance. Even though a lot of my favorite Boulder places aren't downtown, Basecamp still provides easy access to the rest of town since it's located so close to Highway 36 and Arapahoe. Also super close to CU! 2. They have a climbing/bouldering wall in the lobby. Need I say more? 3. Rooms are not Four Seasons quality - but you aren't paying the price either! I think they actually did a really thoughtful job of renovating, the rooms look great and the whole complex has a single, cozy aesthetic. The theme of the rooms is downright adorable and carries through with the wall art, lighting fixtures, and Coleman coolers! 4. They have a hot tub, which is 100% a hotel/motel requirement if you ask me. 5. The bed was sooooooo comfy - lots of pillows, warm blankets, and just the right amount of squish. E and I enjoyed sprawling out in a clean, comfortable, enormous King bed and getting some good sleep. If we ever need a hotel in Boulder again, Basecamp will be at the top of our list! read more

We needed some time away and so we stayed a night at Basecamp. The room was cute and clean, with super friendly staff. There are also things to do like a small rock climbing wall, a sauna, a fire pit, and board games. It's a prime spot for hitting all the popular activities in and around Boulder. My only complaint would be the cost itself, it's a bit steep than other renovated motels I've stayed at. I'm wondering if the cleaning fees have increased and how that's going to their cleaning staff which are doing an amazing job in keeping their rooms clean. read more
