Space is clean, staff is friendly and willing to show a novice the ropes! They have different levels of difficulty that are clearly marked which makes it enjoyable for all skill sets.

What an awesome and classic Austin spot. Always filled with enthusiastic climbers and athletes of all ages. The vibes are warm and inspiring, the staff is incredible, and the facilities are top notch. From their yoga studio to their multiple climbing walls, their weight/mobility training gymnasium to their saunas/cold plunges, it is truly amazing what they have built. Definitely give them a go and have yourself an amazing time. Go solo and meet fantastic people or bring a group. You won't be disappointed.

ABP is an amazing climbing gym. I am fortunate to have a few friends who climb here, so I am able to climb with the two free guest passes they get per month. I would love to get my own membership here, but it is very expensive, even with their student discount. This gym is great for beginner and intermediate climbers. I've noticed that there are more extensive beginner route options here compared to other gyms. Most of my advanced climber friends have migrated to Mesa Rim (newer and not busy) as ABP is so popular that it gets very crowded at peak times. They recently renovated the entire gym, so it has a new look to it. This is a large bouldering (no top rope) gym that also has MoonBoards, a full weight lifting gym, a yoga studio, and a kids' section. The second floor is great for studying as there are plenty of tables and seating with wifi. The locker room is huge and clean. I haven't tried them, but they have yoga classes and lots of fun social events like trivia nights. The community here is very friendly, and it is easy to chat with others for tips or to work on problems together. The closest parking lot fills up very quickly, but they have additional parking that is a little farther out. There is also a bit of street parking.

ABP was my first experience bouldering and I had a blast here! I got a day pass for $18 (young adult rate) which gave me access to climb (unsure if I was allowed to take a class here). I came in with three friends who were also new to bouldering. The front desk staff gave us free shoes, chalk, and gave us a brief orientation about how to fall, and explained the color wheel of climbing difficulty. This information was sufficient to guide us at ABP. I came on a Friday night and enjoyed the vibe of the gym late at night. It was not crowded but was also not empty. There was a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced climbers all together. I thought I would be intimidated by the advanced climbers, but there were plenty of welcoming people at the gym and the advanced climbing walls were a little separated from the beginner courses. I climbed walls that I did not think I could, I even was comfortable jumping down from the top even though it was scary at first! Overall this was a challenging but rewarding workout and it was a great activity to do with friends! Coming here inspired me to want to boulder more in the future. Inside the gym included the area with the climbing walls, classes, a gym area, and even it looked like a co-working/lounging space upstairs. I was impressed with how nice it looked inside and all that ABP had to offer! I would definitely come again and invite more friends.

The new boards are amazing! I can't wait to use them more. I'm hoping the campus board gets put back up somewhere, or maybe I just missed it during my last visit.

Such a great place for beginners to learn how to climb! Plenty of easy routes, and for first timers they throw in a free set of rentals. This place is packed but I never had to wait for a route to free up, there were tons of challenging, manageable V0-V2s to tackle. The upstairs lounge seemed like a great place to relax and study in between problems.

Yes, yes, yes! Austin Bouldering Project "ABP" makes fitness fun again! This was my first time climbing and ABP made it so easy. For first timers, you complete a liability waiver, & pay for the day pass ($15). The day pass has no time limit and includes a free shoe rental. Once you're in the system, shoe rentals are $4/session. Lots of wonderful padding across the gym that made me feel completely safe. If this is your first time, there are no harnesses involved such as rock climbing. This a great workout to sculpt your arms and back! Once you're a regular, you'll also start noticing they change out a portion of the space weekly to keep things interesting. The space at ABP is beautiful, so open & inviting, easy to want to purchase a membership, just needs a juice bar ;)

Ah I LOVE THIS PLACE! I would recommend anyone who is looking for something to do come here. The facility is so nice and the staff are so welcoming. I love the complex difficultly of the problems, each one is so unique and challenging. Compared to other climbing places I've been to, this one is much brighter and the problems are more fun. The place is huge and there are such a variety of problems and walls to chose from. The gym area is also really nice and the yoga classes seem really cool too.

I recently moved to Austin, was looking for a climbing gym. There are not many options in the Austin are but this place does not disappoint. This place is huge and they are frequently changing their circuits. Very kid friendly. Weekends were pretty packed with kids however weekdays have been less busy and more relaxed. This place also offers a yoga studio, fitness area and sauna, plus lockets in the bathroom area. Whether your a first timer looking for a fun and different activity or a frequent climber, this place won't disappoint.

Looking for a gym or exercise classes near my new office, I stumbled onto Central Athlete a few…read moremonths ago and am so glad I did. Central Athlete feels like the best of all worlds when it comes to a gym environment, utilizing a really cool personalized fitness model that I've never quite seen before. It starts with a consultation and an in-depth assessment about your current lifestyle, abilities, and fitness levels, as well as thoughtful discussion about your short and long-term goals, motivational factors, etc. The coach then builds workouts for you, delivered via a very nicely designed and user friendly app, which you can do at the CA gym, at home, at the hotel gym while traveling, etc. The focus goes way beyond gym workouts, and includes nutrition, sleep, stress, hydration, lots of discussion of consistency, and generally controlling what you can in your own wellness. Frequent communication with your coach, including monthly sit-down check-ins, help ensure that you're progressing and on the same page. Like a lot of the other folks at CA, I spent a few years doing crossfit, which was generally a wonderful experience that introduced me to the idea that I could be stronger than I imagined. But the crossfit classes were more of a one-sized-fits-all approach, without much time for focus on form, injury prevention, or working towards individual goals. At CA, you're doing workout sets specifically designed to stretch your current abilities, and always working towards your individual goals. This keeps the workouts at that sweet spot of always advancing and being challenging but not grueling. In the gym, coaches are on the floor for much of the day, and there's a great deal of individual attention and feedback from coaches, lots of breaking down movements to their component parts and rebuilding with proper form (who knew I was rowing all wrong for the last 7 years?) and also great camaraderie from the folks who make up the community there. The coaches are also just really nice, dedicated, enthusiastic and communicative people, and have a huge amount of knowledge and expertise. Re the investment, it's more than you'd pay for a big box gym, but a small fraction of the cost of a personal trainer, while still reaping the benefits that you might expect from a personal trainer, so I feel like I'm getting immense value for my money. In just two months, I've lost a significant amount of body fat, gained a significant amount of muscle, dropped a jeans size, and most importantly, built up the ability to do some really cool strength and endurance work. Most exciting, it still feels like this journey is just beginning and is the start of something sustainable long-term.

Had the pleasure of connecting with Michael Richwein - a knowledgeable coach who truly believes in…read morechanging peoples lives for the better through movement and nutrition. Highly recommeneded.
