No big deal, the front area is still fun just not as much "play" area. We love coming here, they do also sell snacks- including popsicles! We hosted my son's 6th birthday party at Austin Bouldering Project and had such a wonderful experience! The kids had their own dedicated rock wall, and even with 15 kids plus parents, the space worked perfectly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff were helpful and accommodating, and our party helper, Gabe, was fantastic--he kept the momentum going with games, helped organize the kids, and made sure everything ran smoothly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had wondered if one room would be enough to keep the kids entertained for the full two hours, but it absolutely was--they never stopped climbing and loved every minute. I think the day pass prices are a little steep and notice they've gone up recently. I took my very active 4.5 year old and got a really great one to one safety briefing for my son from a helpful desk employee who clearly has worked with children. The kids area is great and since we were 1:1 supervision I got to bring him to the adult area. Thoroughly enjoyed my rock climbing experience at the bouldering project! I got the day pass for $20 which gives you access to the whole gym including bouldering, treadmills and yoga studio. The yoga classes are complimentary and available at various times throughout the day. I signed up for the free introduction class in which the instructor showed us around the whole gym area and gave some helpful tips on how to climb safely. Tried a few different yellow routes (for newbies) and happy to say it was a challenging but fun experience. read more

ABP has ruined my home gym for me because they were FANTASTIC! The day pass came in a bit pricey, compared to what I have seen in my travels at least, at $20. But this includes rental shoes and chalk, so it's worth it. I didn't confirm, but the rental chalk felt like Unicorn Dust, so if you hate fine chalk bring your own. I did not try the rental shoes so can't speak to their quality. They're rental shoes ‍ Their grading system was different than what I'm used to but was easy to follow. It was a busy day being Christmas Eve, but I never waited too long for routes to open up. The place is also so big you can easily move to another area if a specific area gets too clogged up. The employees were very nice and accommodating. I had my service dog in training and they were very helpful. Peter, who was actually off the clock, offered to help redirect people away from my dog since it was busy. It never was an issue as everyone at the gym was very respectful of my dog, but it was a really appreciated gesture. The gentleman at the front desk who's name I did not get was also very nice and checked on us at the end of our visit to make sure everything went smoothly. We went for the free celebration on National Rock Climbing Day, August 19. It was extremely crowded for the festival, but my 9 year old was able to quickly climb every single Beginner course successfully. She tried the child area but it was too easy. Then she tried some Intermediate and Advanced ones that she was able to complete hit or miss. It was all done in 45 minutes and we left because her muscles were exhausted. Today she wants to go back but a $20 day pass for 45 minutes is steep. The problem is that the advanced climbs are spread too far apart for her child height. So not sure what the next step would be??? They have bathrooms, weights, yoga classes, etc. It's very hot because the building is huge. Bring water. read more

If you love bouldering, this is the gym for you! A plethora of routes to choose from, all at varying skill levels with an easy to follow, color coded leveling system. There's plenty of storage for personal belongings and chalk bags are included in the day pass. I'm only at V2 and there were a lot of routes to choose from that were appropriately challenging. I thought it was also cool that they had some routes that were practice for the World Cup - even though I am nowhere near that level. The facility was very clean, and to top it all off, they had a section for additional gym equipment and yoga. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming in again before I leave Austin. read more

We went climbing here earlier today and very much enjoyed it. They had several different rock climbing walls to pick and choose from, and the difficulty level ranged greatly so that both new and experienced climbers could find a course to challenge them. Also, this location has a pretty nice workout area too, with at least three squat racks, two benches, gymnastics rings and dumbbells that go up to 100lbs. We would workout here again! read more

Checked this new location out after being a member at the Springdale location for years now. Tucked in a shopping center, you would have never known there was a climbing gym here, but that doesn't mean it's not a great spot. This location is definitely smaller than the Springdale location, but everything is brand new and clean aka everything grips, aka sandpaper, but I love it. There's more slab/vertical areas which are what I love so that's a plus for me. The sets I feel are more true to color (different from Springdale), and definitely climb differently. The gym area is pretty fast with plenty of machines and tools for working out. It almost feels a little like there's too much empty space, but that's also a nice thing. Heading back there again tonight and will definitely come here once in a while. This spot is a bit further away from me since I live in north Austin, but it'll be nice to have new stuff to try every time I do visit. read more

very nice bouldering only gym with creative setting of their problems. like all the bouldering projects, have loose color-coded grading which does make sense as you have to decide what grade it was for you, but it does take getting used to. a nice ive seen among bouldering projects is that the padding more continuous without gaps for walkways. it's a lot safer and I'm sure more expensive, although harder for spectators. another great thing is their prices have more tiers and are a lot lower than other gyms, especially for younger kids. they also were very responsible about safe climbing, even giving a live mini-tutorial for the first time climbers we were with. read more

If you have money to waste, and don't know much about climbing this is a great gym. Been my main gym for 2 years and will for sure be changing gyms. Boulder grades feel strange because they use colors to group multiple grades together. Good for beginners, bad for anyone who wants to get better. Springdale for some reason just has higher quality setting. Comparing the setting style is like a comparing a burger with just ketchup to a $30 burger with gold flakes on it. The staff were always really nice and helpful but today marked my final time taking attitude from workers trying to rub off their bad day on other people. In the last year or so, there's just less smiles, less passion and you never ever feel special. I know we are 1 of 500 people you'll see in a shift, but do your job and put on a happy face for the people paying way too much money for a mediocre, well maintained climbing gym. This review is very mean, and I'm sorry if what I said pokes anyone the wrong way, buttt This gym is not bad! It's just definitely not good. It's very well maintained, the people who climb there all seem like generally uplifting personalities. Because it's higher end the holds are all great quality and feel fun to climb. Small gym area to just workout if you don't wanna climb, and it's cool they have different classes and groups to join through the gym itself. I really do think this is a great gym for beginners and people who are just looking for some activity to get out, on the other hand.. If you have climbed for more than 1 year, for the sake of your wallet and getting better at climbing, choose another gym. read more

I can't say anything but amazing things about this place. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, and there is something for everyone at this gym. Even when this place is crowded, it does not feel overwhelmed and there are more than enough walls for people to climb. ABP is one of my happy places and I have been going since it first opened! 10/10 would recommend checking out! read more

I love that there are not one but two of these gyms available in Austin now. As someone who is not a fan of top rope, it's nice to have a place dedicated solely to bouldering. This location is definitely smaller and more technical in terms of the climbs available compared to their Springdale location (the original), but still worth a visit. It could get crowded very quickly, so try to aim for less busy times and be patient if you need to wait for a wall to open up. Would definitely recommend a visit. read more

Nice spot to climb! As opposed to other rock climbing spots I've been to, I had yet to see an upstairs lounge area where people can hangout while watching their kids climb, or to just take a break. There was a separate workout area, and lots of cubbies and code locked lockers to put your stuff if you want your items enclosed and safe. There were fitting rooms as well, and restrooms of course. Looks nice but feels soulless. It's like they've got all the pieces but put it together wrong. Not sure who the owner is but I'm pretty sure they don't climb because if they did they'd know this place doesn't have "it". There's another gym in town that is like the full color spectrum of what this black and white dismal place is trying to be. My kids had some fun and if you've never been to real gym before then you might think this is great but take a look at the other places and you'll find what a real climbing gym is all about. This is the newest location of ABP that opened up near my house. The space is slightly smaller than the Springdale location but makes up for it with interesting and more challenging problems. They have a great spread of difficulty in their routes as to make it both novice and advanced climber friendly. The staff is also extremely friendly and helpful. I finally decided to buy my own pair of climbing shoes and the person working took the time to explain the differences between the shoes they offered and helped me find the right fit. read more

Love this place. As a new climber, they made me extremely comfortable and welcomed. They even have intro classes. There were people of all ages and skill levels climbing, including children. I had no issues with children running under me or anything else. Everyone is extremely kind and they have lots of extra features, like yoga classes, wifi/study area, etc. One of my favorite features is that they have an occupancy meter on their website for both locations, so you know how busy it is. (I was also sorry to read below that some parents with little kids were unhappy with ABP. I can't comment on their experiences because I was not a member at those times, but it seems that if the stated problems existed before, they don't any longer. All the rules were very clearly posted on a white board before the desk to the gym, and they are very, very explicit in their waiver that rock climbing has inherent dangers-- it's in all caps and you must initial next to each rule saying you read it. As an adult, I took one of their courses to increase my safety, so I knew how to fall properly, how to politely move around, etc., and the workers are happy to do an overview of safety even if you don't sign up for a class.) read more

Parents be wary - the only safety feature is a padded floor. We didn't know this ahead of time, otherwise we likely would not have gone. There are rocks and other objects that stick out along the wall. No harnesses, helmets, or other type of padding. My daughter fell from 8-10 feet and broke her elbow. If I could leave zero stars I would. I'm sure it is a wonderful place for adults, but I've unfortunately been here several times with my kids and twice now we've had terrible experiences. Once we arrived when there was a camp going on and we were told the kids couldn't go in the kid room- which is fine HOWEVER the campers were NOT in the kid room and taking up the only other available kid space, which we were also told we couldn't use. This is AFTER we paid. The second awful experience (we should have never gone back after the first awful time), my friend and I arrived with our six kids between us. Once again, AFTER we paid we were told that they have some silly kid to adult ratio that we were over the limit on and could only stay in certain areas. Again, fine. HOWEVER, we were followed around by employees who kept telling us this rule over and over again while the employees ignored two other children (who didn't belong to us) as they ran rampant around ours and kept getting underneath our children causing potential fall hazards. How about telling us BEFORE we pay that our group is too large? How about letting the parents decide if watching 3-4 kids is too much? Obviously this is a place geared towards adults and is NOT welcoming towards children and obviously the employees DO NOT have kids of their own. Save your money and go to Crux where children are actually welcomed and can enjoy themselves. Plus Crux has much nicer facilities. read more

Not one to complain, but you're paying a lot for a membership and the men's locker room is disgusting, 3 out of the 4 showers are out of service, and towels run out. Staff didn't seem to take it too seriously when brought up. Not fun. read more
