So much fun for my first time visiting Crux! Great spot located in South Austin. Front Desk were super friendly and helpful. Retail Center located behind front desk with great options of T-shirts, tank tops and gear to choose from. You can also opt to sign the waiver form online before your first visit. Each climb is labeled with the V-Scale to help climbers select their level of difficulty. Parking lot is shared with other businesses - can be a bit challenging during peak hours and around when people are leaving from work. However, as you enter and leave the venue, you are hit with the great aroma of BBQ and other food trucks nearby. I am super fortunate to have a climber-friend who was able to 'Show Me the Ropes.' Which helped in mitigating some of my first-timer mistakes while bouldering. I learned a bunch of new terminology such as volumes, kneebar, toe-hold, heel hooks, flagging, feet cutting and much more. I'd recommend doing research on some of the terminology and bouldering body positions to help solidify your understanding before your first day. I enjoy training BJJ & Powerlifting, and my forearms were sore as if I just had many rolls or a long deadlift training session. Don't be alarmed if your forearms feel really tight when bouldering. I'm a huge fan of table tennis/ping pong, so I was excited to see that there was a table to play in between rest time. There's the main room, a Cave and kids room for all ages to enjoy the experience. I highly recommend visiting Crux if you are an experienced climber or first-timer like me!

Still enjoy climbing here! You make reservations to come on the RGPro app, check in with a barcode tag, get your temperature checked and head on in. If you check in with your phone number too, you can rack up points. Luckily if the top rope area gets too crowded, you can walk around to an area less packed - bouldering, head to the cave, or upstairs moon board. Usually don't have that problem after 8:30ish PM or very early morning.

This place has lots of bouldering problems. They are challenging. Though it may be a bit small and feels kinda crowded. The rope section is very small as it only has a small section. The walls are not that tall and this could not be challenging for the lead climbing. I enjoyed the bouldering problems, but I believe that ABP is much better place to go for bouldering than Crux Climbing Center...

Crux offers a good variety of climbing walls. The facility is well maintained and staff are knowledgable and friendly. It can get crowded, especially during peak times and parking can be a challenge.

Modern rock climbing place that is suitable for first-timers to experts. However, you need to become certified with Crux through classes to belay other people (some places allow you to belay after intro orientation). They provide climbing shoes and cubbies for storage. The physical walls have about 4-5 self-belaying climbs that are not too difficult. If you go during peak time, you might wait for a climb to open up. There is a large free climbing area with an abundance of space. Also, there is a separate kids area with easy walls to climb. Around the back there is a ping pong table, piano, lounge area and bathrooms. For $20, you can climb all day, but unless you are certified you might get bored quickly. The reason Crux gets 5 instead of 4 stars is because of the shoes, modern facility, and number of climbs offered. The facility shares a parking lot with a food truck park and beer & coffee bar.

I should've posted a review long ago, but after a small mix up on my membership I'm even more inclined to let everyone know how amazing Crux is, especially their (kind & caring) employees. I joined Crux gym over a year ago, and my heart aches not being able to have my (3x a week) sessions (personal choice) but I'm glad to know they'll be there when I'm ready to get back on the wall. Their route setters are GOOD. They get you thinking, also give easier lines that boost confidence, and also set routes that you'll literally dream about solving. That says a lot about their route setting skills! I've brought two beginners to crux and they were able to try and conquer plenty of lines, so they're great for all levels. The vibe, the amenities, their gear shop, I give it all 5+ stars.

So much fun! I took my 10 year old and we were both new to climbing. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely go back!

This particular location of Black Swan is tucked away from the main road. It's one large room vs studios with multiple rooms. It has mirrors everywhere so you can check and correct your posture easily, as well as rubber flooring that makes balancing better / easier on your joints. They have plenty of props and the room being wide allows everyone to have a good view of the instructor as well as hear well.

Here's the thing:…read moreBlack Swan lists a bunch of their classes just as "Flow" but each one is led by a different teacher with a different style and different definition of "all-level." Your experience will vary based on the teacher and time of day. 5:30pm - you're gonna get a sweaty, packed room and hardcore workout. 8:30pm - you're gonna get a chill vibe more focused on stretching and winding down for the day. I'm glad they offer both, but it's hard to know what you're gonna get when you book. I literally started keeping a list of teacher's names to note if I liked their style or not ‍ Parking sucks at Orchard (& Cesar Chavez). Get there early to find a spot. Also, they also don't clearly advertise that the rooms are heated. Trust me - bring a sweat towel!
