I recently returned from a trip to Portugal with Boundless Journeys. From start to finish the experience was exceptional. Hotels were comfortable and charming. As a foodie I was pleasantly surprised by the farm-to-table restaurant choices. Days were well paced and the group was a lot of fun. Probably the best part of this trip, and I can say the same for my experience last year on a Boundless Journeys trip to Norway, were the guides who made the trip unforgettable. The wonderful guidance we received from Boundless Journeys' Stowe, VT office is always top-notch and the itineraries and guides have all been outstanding. We just returned from the Dolomites in September, and we loved the varied scenery and the Sassalungo hike was beautiful and challenging. Just returned with my son from an amazing Boundless Journeys trip to the Dolomites in Italy. Every detail was well planned and professionally executed. Our truly sensational local guides made all the difference and the small group size was a huge plus. Absolutely terrible. Spent 7 days with Boundless Journeys in Portugal. Guide was uninformed, uninterested in being with us and very low energy. Hotels were more like dorm rooms and we were charged as if they were 5 star. Food was terrible and restaurants tried to upsell us their wares during our meals. Nothing was as expected. Save your money and do not travel with them. Ever. read more

It was first trip to Africa, a life long dream come true. We had the great fortune of traveling with Our Guide David Luck. Our locations, accommodations, the wildlife, and the support staff at each camp made a trip I will remember for the rest of my life. The highlights included but are not limited to, our drivers, our guide (David Luck) every single staff member , the delicious food and the friendliest, most hospitable people I had ever met. I just got home from my TMB trip. July13th to july 20th 2019. FANTASTIC. I don't have a single complaint. From the hike, the destination, accommodations, and food. Our guide Sandrine was great. I just did (part of) a tour with Boundless Journeys. It was a disaster. I think the company is basically just a pretty website and marketing, because when I arrived in Turkey (my trip was a tour of Turkey), the man who was running the tour had never guided for them before, nor met anyone from the company. So basically Boundless is just some people in an office putting together an itinerary and getting whoever to run it--they do not bring any experience or company personnel to their trips. Anyway, this guy was just horrible--he was like the nightmare person you would never agree to travel with. He was angry, stressed, always yelling, and insisted on conformity to "the program," which he was always loudly restating, again and again. My idea of a tour and a guide is someone who serves as a resource for you and bridge to the country's culture--not a drill sergeant. Anyway, I was told by this "guide" and the company that I could not be trusted out of their sight. The itinerary was badly designed and crammed, in order to minimize any feelings of wonder you might get from your traveling experience. We were marched from sight to sight by this crazed, sweaty man, and given a scant bit of time to see whatever it was. If you tried to bow out of something out of exhaustion or disinterest, you were harassed. The second part of the trip was on a boat, and I was told that under no circumstances would I be allowed off the boat unless it was with the guide--it was like I had been put under house (or boat) arrest! For me, used as I am to traveling, and traveling independently, I could not understand all of the oppression, and I certainly could not be happy. The guide was also very abusive. I joined the tour as a solo woman, and I am a youngish solo women, so he was particularly angry at any deviations I might attempt to make from "the program." He also got very angry that I had a guide book, as he felt I should only get my information from him. He yelled at me so often all while constantly touching me (I was at the point of always cringing in his presence), that I finally burst into tears and ran down the street away from him. Anyway, that was the end of the trip for me, though I had to eat thousands of dollars. It has made me angry, but the feelings of freedom and happiness I got from getting away from that man were priceless. I just want to warn anyone who might be considering using Boundless Journeys--do not do it. As I stated, I travel a lot, and usually alone, so I was looking for a company that offered small group tours so I could have a more social experience, and an experience where some of the work of planning could be taken off my shoulders, as well as having a person or persons who could introduce me to a new country. What I got instead was the guide from hell and a poorly planned itinerary all put together by people thousands of miles away with no interest in accountability--just in payment. read more

I have traveled with a handful of Tier 1 tour operators. Boundless Journeys is right up there with them, hands down. I'm recently back from my first trip with Boundless Journeys, on a 12-day history/walking tour of the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. The guide, Nick, could not have paid more attention to the details of the route, the hotels, historical stops with his in-depth knowledge, and the restaurants. Trust me, this is a hard hike. I had a terrific vacation with Boundless Journeys to TURKEY this spring! I am primarily a single traveler, and on many trips I like to have a physical , adventurous part to it but don't want to, or don't have the time to do all the research. Plus I enjoy meeting others who like to travel the same way for the social aspect. I chose this particular trip with them because I've always wanted to go to Turkey, and this itinerary was especially appealing because of the start in Istanbul and it's bustling atmosphere leading into a combination of touring archaeology sites and also the boat portion of the trip, which had great hikes to archaeological sites, and then return to the peaceful time on the boat cruising the Aegean Sea down the coast of Turkey. Not only did Boundless make my beginning preparation stress free by making all the arrangements, including my airfare, but answered any questions I had about the items to bring for the degree of hiking, and what to expect on the boat cruise as far as being a single traveler ( I always pay the extra single supplement just to secure some quiet time alone if needed). They went as far as to ask if there was anything special I would like to request? After a day to digest this extra measure of service- I asked for a massage shortly after my arrival to get all the kinks of traveling a long flight, which they arranged, to having plenty of sparkling water on the boat for me, since it's my beverage of choice! The most unexpected treat of the trip was to have a guide whose knowledge of Turkey was incredibly vast.He was an Archaeologist and had physically worked on many of the sites, but also has 6 books published about specific sites, and sculpture Of Turkey, which I was able to get later at the Antalya Museum, where he had been director of for 30 years. ( I enjoyed Turkey so much I extended my trip a week in Antalya, which Boundless Journeys' travel agent made all the changes to my flight for me. Which I knowingly paid extra for my change to itinerary.) This was the guides 1st trip with Boundless, but had been leading adventures for over 15 plus years with another well known company. So I felt especially fortunate to have him as a guide for my trip. He worked diligently at meeting everyone's desires along the way, and made each lunch or dinner more special by knowing the best places to go, and our welcome to most of the restaurants was met with a big smile to see him, followed by special attention to us because of him. When I travel with any adventure travel business there is always a bit of trepidation at who else might be on the trip, and whether you will get along with them or not. On this trip there were 2 other couples that were father/ daughter with their spouses, and then myself, we had the best time together, including the guide to round out our intimate group. There was a 6th person in the beginning, who joined trip at the last minute, but after 3 or 4 days thankfully pulled out of the trip. She was also a frequent traveler, but always on her own and a group trip was not meant for her. In fact we all breathed a sigh of relief when she left. She was consistently challenging the guide, and the itinerary that the rest of us all signed on for. But after her departure we settled into a fun filled physical, intellectual, relaxing journey of the Turkish Coast! I look forward to my next trip with Boundless Journeys where ever it should lead me. read more

I took a trip with Boundless Journeys to the Galapagos Islands and it was the trip of a lifetime! I knew the location would be fabulous, but I did not expect our guide to be so knowledgeable. Every morning before our day began, we had a briefing that included plant life, geology of the area, as well as the animal and fish life we would encounter. The accommodations were fabulous, the food was amazing (our chef even prepared an American Thanksgiving feast for us) and the service was 5 star. The highlight of the trip was swimming with the sea lions and a visit to a tortoise sanctuary. Thanks for an unforgettable experience! read more

Amazing trip to Turkey! We went to Turkey in May. We chose their itinerary because it was packed full the first week and had a lovely stay on a boat the second week. This tour group is amazing. They were hands on from start to finish. They answered all our questions, handled the trip insurance, made sure we had our visas, they were just lovely to work with. The trip itself was amazing! Turkey is an incredible country and our guide was the recently retired curator of the Antalya Museum. He had been everywhere and knew everyone. He was committed to making sure we saw as much as possible of his amazing country that he is so proud of! He had been a guide with another tour company for years, but this was his first trip for Boundless. He was so conscientious, and made sure we were happy and settled the whole time. He had amazing friends everywhere we went and it was like being a local guest everyday. We saw tons and got lots of exercise! You knew going in to this trip it was jammed packed with places to see and things to do. We were excited to maximize our time there. We travel a lot and as much as you would love to visit places two or three times, we all know that doesn't usually happen, so you have to make the most of your one time in a country. Since our guide had worked at basically every dig around the country, he was a wealth of knowledge about it all! Sometimes we did what was on the program and sometimes we did something he knew we would love that wasn't on the program. He added on an amazing underground city that was just a short bus ride from our morning stop...WOW! This was from the 5BC! He knew all the great little local restaurants to stop at and the best food to order every time! We hit Mary's house before the crowds and stood there by ourselves! This is what he brought to the the table. We were always where we needed to be at the absolute perfect time to experience the place or the moment. And, after an amazing week of seeing unbelievable sites, we landed on this amazing boat and spent a week cruising the Turquoise Coast. Our guide had places he wanted to share with us, but he also gave us full rein to decide if we just wanted to hang out on the boat. We spent a lovely afternoon with a family and shared a meal with them...unforgettable! All the wonderful little places we went when no one else was there.... The Captain and the first mate were the best! They treated us like royalty and waited us on hand and foot. They fed us great food everyday. The boat was great and we relaxed! Our stops in the little towns were the best. A mud bath here, an amazing spice shop there....our guide would set up in a local restaurant and then set us free to explore and shop, always telling us the best deals and where NOT to go! The end of the trip was sad, but he treated us to meeting his daughter and we toured her museum in Antalya on the water. It was a magical trip and we were all sad to see it end. Boundless did an amazing job and we look forward to touring with them again soon! For anyone that wants to be immersed in the culture and experience the country first hand, this is the trip for you! read more

Having traveled with several safari companies since our trip with Boundless Journeys we can say this company is vastly overpriced!!! We just returned from 20 days in the African Bush at top luxury eco-lodges and the entire cost was equivalent to what we paid Boundless for 10 days at eco camps only moderately luxurious!! In addition to that we were lied to about the distance we would be driving! We wanted a flying safari and were told there was not much driving and we needed to drive to see the migration. We missed the peak of the migration as it is not easy to predict, but the DRIVING!!! We drove over 1,200 miles on dirt ruts! It was annihilating painful and very tedious! We would never use Boudless Journeys for booking a safari to Africa again. Their knowledge is only as travelers, not people who live there. Also the guides we have had for the last 3 years have been from the bush. Not guides from Arusha who are trained in guide school.. The mindset is very different, and we highly recommend using companies that are personally familiar with the area you want to travel and who use guides who are from the areas you want to travel in. read more
