The wait staff was friendly, and the manager/owner was incredibly nice. He was really on top of his game and made a point of regularly checking in on all patrons to make sure everything was OK, and he made you feel like you were part of the family (in fact, he kept telling us Casablanca was our home!). I've dined at Casablanca in the past and it had been a while since I stopped in - one thing that I can say is that the menu hasn't changed very much in the last couple of year. That said, our meals were delicious. First, they serve super fresh bread with the perfect type of margarine (I'm picky like that). No problem if you want more bread either - the wait staff will happily bring more. As well, my water glass was full all evening, which is something that I appreciate. I opted for the Table d'hote, which was a 5-course meal. To start, I had the lentil soup. It was fragrant and VERY flavorful. The manager told me they use duck carcass, saffron and Tajine to make the soup (now, this Tajine bit was unclear to me so he may have been referencing to how the soup was cooked rather than an ingredient!). In any case, while I normally don't eat lentils, I couldn't skip this dish. Noms! The soup was followed by a Moroccan salad; this was basically a house salad topped with a Moroccan-style bruschetta. The salad itself was nothing to write home about - Iceberg lettuce with some cucumber and radishes (it came with a creamy dressing but I asked for olive oil and Balsamic on the side), but the bruschetta topping was great. It had a bit of a kick to it but wasn't vinegary at all. Personally, I would showcase that by serving it on crisps or baguette. After the salad, I opted for snail in a brown sauce with pastry. Now, the look of the dish isn't appetizing at ALL. I mean, it's brown. But the sauce/gravy was really good and worked very well with the shrimp, which were cooked to my liking. The pastry on the other hand, seemed old. It wasn't soft and flaky but rather a little tough. My main dish was linguine with shrimp. I should mention that I rarely eat gluten anymore - but I'm glad I made the exception for this dish. The pasta was perfectly cooked (Al Dente) with olive oil and herbs. I'm not sure what was used, but it reminded me of a black olive tapenade (which I LOVE). It was topped with some fat shrimp and grilled tomatoes, with a side of garlic butter. I really enjoyed this dish. Apparently the chef used to work at Papa Luigi, which explains why the pasta dish was so good! Dessert was included - there were two choices; one was a praline thing and one was a chocolate thing. Obviously I had the chocolate. The waitress told me dessert was made by a Moroccan bakery..... which may be the case, but neither dessert struck me as being particularly Moroccan. My dessert was very, very chocolatey. I enjoyed it but if you're not a fan of the overly sweet, you might want to pick something else. The praline was nice - nutty and not very sweet. I finished off with Moroccan tea that was positively fabulous! Green tea with fresh mint (whole sprigs) and honey. I drank the whole pot. Yummo. My meal cost $26.95 +tax and that was a real bargain for everything I had. The only thing that wasn't included was the tea, which I found strange but I won't complain - my meal was a bargain. The outdated decor lends to an 'old people' feel but just ignore the flowered chairs and enjoy the food - or sit outside on the awesome terrace!

The woman who had been wiping the tables put down the dirty cleaning cloth she had been using and, without washing or sanitizing her hands, picked up a stack of plates and brought them to our table. She placed the plates in a stack in the middle of the table instead of setting one for each person. We didn't really pay attention to that and started taking the plates ourselves. But to our horror, the entire stack of plates was dirty and clearly had not been properly washed after the previous customers. We asked the woman serving us to replace the plates. She brought us another stack, and we were absolutely shocked to discover that the new plates were dirty as well. We decided not to touch them, especially since we weren't even planning to order appetizers. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment came when our main dishes arrived. Right away, we realized that something had clearly changed at this restaurant. It honestly felt as though the owners or the kitchen had changed, because we had never experienced anything like this here before. The food was cold, bland, and tasteless. The meat was overcooked and dry, the rice was cold and dry when our dishes were served, and the pita bread was cold, as if it had just been taken out of the refrigerator. Later, the gentleman who was serving us asked if everything was okay. We felt that we had to be honest with him and tell him exactly what we thought. We normally never complain or express our dissatisfaction so openly, but in this situation, we felt it was necessary. He apologized for what had happened, and we truly appreciate that. We understand that he was not responsible for the situation and that he did his job properly. The problems with the food, the cleanliness of the dishes, and the overall quality are ultimately the responsibility of the owners and management. They usually have a dine-in option but their their dining area is currently closed due to covid. Nonetheless, you can still enjoy their delicious food by taking your food to go! You can also order their food on UberEats and Doordash! Based on the recommendations of the owner, we tried the following dishes: - Fava bean falafels - Mulukhiyah - Egyptian bread - Kushari (rice, lentils, chickpeas, noodles, tomato sauce and fried onions) - Bachamel (ground beef mixture, noodles and bachamel sauce) - Zalabia (puffy fritters soaked in syrup) This was our first time having Egyptian food and we were blown away. Everything was bursting with color and flavor. The falafels were incredible, especially when eaten inside the Egyptian bread and smothered with tahini (a spread made of ground sesame seeds). It was so good we bought ourselves a second serving to bring home!! The bachamel was also extremely delicious. They typically make it in a larger platter, which makes the dish great for catering and feeding big groups! And the zalabia was a perfect way to end the meal! The food alone merits a stellar review but the owners are what makes this place so special. Both of them were so welcoming and kind when we showed up, and took the time to make sure we were happy with the food. Miriam especially was super sweet and you could tell she truly loves what she's doing. Both of them are beautiful people and make Tanoura a beautiful place to eat. It is hibiscus juice prepared in its very egyptian way. The flowers are imported directly from Sudan and have all kinds of health benefits. The fava bean falafel was crispy  and served with tahini and the soup . I got the chance to taste molokhia soup, a green soup made from minced jews/jute mallow leaves and cooked in broth. The quality of the broth was there, simmered for hours. Had wedding dessert Om Ali made with phyllo dough, milk and nuts. There is no wedding without this desert. It is my first time having Egyptian cuisine. I usually have the known Lebanese cuisine. I was very happy about my experience. I think this is the closest traditional food I can get unless I get invited to a friend's house. Tanoura is owned by a lovely couple,  they ve been around for over 7 years. I saw pick ups from  elders egyptians. It is a good indicator. This restaurant have closed their dining section and so you will have to do pick ups.
