Drove out the the Wack to have lunch with friends we hadn't seen in many years and went to the B&S, they picked. To be fair I had checked that area out as I know it's been revitalized in the last half decade, and the ratings were pretty good. It's a cool space with an upstairs that was not open, with a somewhat industrial look which is right up my alley. Give me open wood beams, conduit, bricks and an industrial floor and I'll move in. The service was top notch, Mackenzie was there when we wanted her, and understood we would be there a while catching up. For a younger server, she showed experience beyond her years, and was excellent. We should have tipped her more, and I hate the preset tip percentages. Typically don't use them, but I had a brain fart today. Three of our diners loved their meals. The lovely K loved the fish sandwich, our friends their B&S classic sandwich and most especially the Prawn Cobb salad. Unfortunately my Honey Thyme fried chicken sandwich was not good. Overcooked and black with a paltry amount of fries, not a good $23.00 meal. Would we go again, yes I would because I think someone just f'd my food up. Exceptional service--low-key but super memorable. We had a birthday dinner for a party of 12, with two celebrants marking their special day. From start to finish, the team delivered cheerful, professional service that made everyone feel right at home. It was the small things that stood out: I used my fork to feed my 3-year-old niece, and without a word or prompt, a fresh one appeared at my setting. Later, she didn't finish her kids' menu Mac & Cheese (she'd already filled up on the shared calamari appy, which she loved so much her parents were thrilled to see her trying something new), and an appropriately sized takeout container materialized unprompted. The food was equally impressive--my B&S Poke Bowl (crispy tofu, gluten-aware, with modifications for restrictions) was exceptional. I felt bad about tying the chef's hands with my food sensitivities, but they delivered something beyond what even a prideful cook could achieve under those constraints. We were on our way home from Bridal Falls and ended up at Bow and Stern in Chilliwack for dinner: Poutine Salmon Cake Entree Mac n' Cheese with Lobster Usually, my daughter and I are sharing an order of poutine and since I don't eat meat I always order a Vegetarian or Vegan gravy to go on top. This time, we were all having separate orders for ourselves. Since my daughter eats everything, she had no issues with ordering this Poutine, after I inquired about the gravy and learned that it was a meat gravy. After eating it though, she decided that she much prefers all of the Vegetarian and Vegan gravies that she usually eats, when she's sharing poutine with me. Salmon Cake was flavourful with good texture and mashed potatoes were very fluffy. The side vegetables were a bit bland though. Mac n' Cheese with Lobster was very tasty but the lobster meat was somewhat scarce, and the lobster meat that they did put in was shredded. I'd have preferred bigger chunks of lobster meat as opposed to the shredded meat that they used. I had hoped to see big chunks of red dispersed throughout the meal. I saw barely anything at all that was red in this dish. Would I order the Mac n' Cheese here again? Yes, but only the plain version. Really cool vibe at this downtown Chilliwack restaurant. It was recommended by our fishing guide as a good spot for seafood after a day of Fraser River fishing. We had some excellent oysters on the half shell and both the clams and mussels were great too. Service was friendly and quick without ever feeling rushed. Tried it again for their fish and chips, and it was just as bad as the last time. It use to be a good serving, but now it has gone even worse. The cod fish was paper thin with a whole lot of batter and very greasy. My sis in law had a portion of over fried chip ends and I got the other half of the chip ends. The forks are very long and narrow, it looked like a pickle fork, I found it very difficult to eat with it as you could only pick up a very small forkful with it. I don't know what happened to the Bow and Stern, they use to be good but has gone downhill. I do not recommend going there, as quality and quantity has gone down and prices has gone up. read more

The hubby and I decided to have a day date in Chilliwack - couldn't find a place that sparked our interest until we stumbled upon bow & stern. And let me say, 100% super glad we stumbled because the ambiance was beautiful, the hostess and waitress were amazing .. catered to my indecisive needs of moving tables. (Sorry!) While visiting friends in Chilliwack we came upon the Bow and Stern in a new revitalised area of downtown Chilliwack. We have eaten at the Bow and Stern in Abbotsford and really enjoyed it. A cool Yaletown, warehouse type vibe. Super friendly staff and great service! We had the fish and chips which was excellent. We came for a birthday celebration, and even without a reservation (on a Saturday), we were quickly seated upstairs. We ordered a seafood platter that consisted of crabs, shrimp, and clams. The food was good, albeit the crab had an odd texture like it was undercooked. It was very soft, but perhaps just a regional taste that I'm not used to. We split the halibut fish and chips and the cob salad. The halibut was delicious, just enough crunchy breading, and the fish was cooked to perfection. The fries were good, not great, with ketchup and really tasty tartar sauce. The cob was a work of art. The food and drinks were excellent, we also got a Salmon Gravlax to start but we dug on before I got a picture, but it was definitely a delightful new experience that we really enjoyed. There are so many great options to choose from and they even have happy hour throughout the week too! The raw oysters were part of the happy hour deal for $1.50 each. And they were FRESH!! And we doubled down on the oyster by ordering the po'boy too and it was the best decision ever! The oysters in the sandwich are so plump, juicy and fried just right! And for some greens they have this tremendously stacked seafood salad!! There were soo much seafood that included crab meat, prawns, and halibut. There are also plenty of outdoor patio space at the restaurant for you to enjoy a nice outdoor dining. After the market we stopped by here for some food after looking at reviews. The service was amazing along with the food on the hapoy hr menu but what stood out to me the most was the compassion from the host and our server. As I was walking to the washroom the host commented on my sweater. My kids gave me a sweater with the outline of my dogs and their names. My one dog just passed away and I shared that with her. She was very sweet. After we finished our meal and drinks our server gave us the bill and said I heard you just had a loss and we wanted to comp your drinks for you. How amazing and kind is that? I couldn't believe it. We were blown away by their compassion over our loss and for that reason I will return to this restaurant and recommend. We were in Chiliwack for just a couple of days, we were told this place had good food and it exceeded our expectations. I didn't catch our servers name but she was so personable and upbeat. We didn't have to ask for anything she was on it! The New York strip was cooked to perfection, the veggies were well seasoned! Its become a bit of tradition to go toBow and Stern for my birthday dinner. As always, food quality was fabulous, as was our server. Can't say the same for the hostess, nor management. When seated at the table closest to the kitchen which had one bench and 2 chairs I asked if we could be moved to a adjacent booth with both upholstered benches. There were NO reserved signs on any but I was told they were indeed reserved. Sadly when I made reservations I failed to specify a booth with 2 benches. Ah well. Hubby didn't want a scene so I settled. I ordered the whole crab ($70). Asked for a CUPof soup to be subbed for the potatoes. Server requested frommanagement,management denied. Firstly, I like modern industrial design, and this place was very nicely done if you like that feel as well. The booth seating was very comfortable. We came during happy hour, which I highly recommend. Our server recommended the gravlax, so we started with that. It was very good. We then had a dozen oysters and basically worked our way through the happy hour menu. The gravlax was the best item, but the rolls were also particularly tasty. The fish and chips were good, too, but the happy menu is only the cod. I'd come back to try the halibut. Cocktails were very good and beers on tap included a decent selection and perfect temperature. While the food tasted alright, the portions are far too small for the price point. The service could have been much better. I suspect the servers are hired for their...appearance rather than their experience in the industry. We planned on coming to Bow & Stern on a day trip to the Fraser Valley and were lucky we happen to get here at Happy Hour 2-5pm. The venue was great. Simple, new decor in the new District 1881. They were just having their one year anniversary at this location. For Happy Hour, we shared a dozen oysters $1.50 ea and each had their Burger + Fries + Beer combo $15. I subbed my beer for a highball at the same price and chose the crispy chicken burger which was excellent. My friends opted for the sirloin burger which I tried and have to say was even better than the chicken. Although we were stuffed, we managed to share but not finish the Deep fried banana split (yum) which they easily swapped out the berry topping for chocolate syrup instead. The check in with the new covid compliance was simple and easy. Staff were friendly, quick and helpful. Location is in one of the nicest parts of downtown Chilliwack which was cute, clean and rustic. Bathroom check mark, with individual clean stalls with own sink, and paper towel ( not dryers). Overall very pleased with everything and would visit again when in the neighborhood. read more
