Initially I thought the cod was undercooked because it was so pale, but once I took my first bite it was crisp, delicious and cooked perfectly. Portion sizes matched the price, which we initially thought was a bit high until we saw how large our portion was. The only challenge was our french fries were undercooked, which was so disappointing. I can't remember ever receiving partially cooked potatoes when ordering french fries before. Service was very quick, the staff was very nice and the restaurant is beautiful. Unfortunately they don't have outside seating, but luckily we found a bench across the street. read more

It came with a green salad with vinegar dressing that was good, seasoned buttered vegetables that tasted better than expected and pretty piquant mashed potatoes. The salmon cakes were pretty good on its own, even when paired with the cocktail and tzatziki sauce that came with it. I also had their Oyster Shot, which was interesting to say the least. I did have their raw oysters during the Happy Hour period, and they were pretty good for an appetizer. I had their Chicken & Waffles from their brunch menu, and it was overall enjoyable. The coffee there was acceptable, although it is a little costly. I adore the nautical-theme design of the restaurant while still maintaining sophisticated charm to it. Such a great time on New Year's Eve. Food was excellent. Jewel was fantastic - a perfect server's personality meshed to the eccentric guests at our table. We could see how hard she was working tonight but it didn't impact the service level. All the staff were busy and the tables were fully occupied, but they did such a great job. Popped in to this great little eatery in Abbotsford for lunch today! The service was both friendly and efficient. The ambiance is clean, and super pleasing to the eye. Has a rustic, cozy vibe while still being bring and clean. It was a lovely place to warm up on a chilly afternoon. It's in a great area, close to all the great shops and cafes that Abbotsford has to offer. Fits in well with the surrounding businesses. We decided to stop at Bow and Stern to celebrate with a drink and a charcuterie board to celebrate my cousin choosing a wedding dress! We were pressed for time so we let the server know we only had an hour. This place has great atmosphere! It can get a little loud though. But the decor makes it worth the sound. I think it's very pretty in there. I got a glass of their house red which was delicious! The checuterie board took forever to come to our table. I had to flag the server down and remind her of our tight timeline. Once it came we had to eat it pretty fast which took away some of the enjoyment. We stopped in for dinner on a busy Friday night around 8pm and we're so glad to be seated without a big delay. They greeted us at the door, and checked out bc passports and then once seated we were greeted by our waitress promptly. The restaurant was a little loud but they were quiet full and it was a Friday night. If you're intending for a romantic dinner I might suggest you go on a less busy night. But overall the ascetic is fun, welcoming and modern. The ordered both the fish tacos and Cajun chicken tacos. They orders come with 2 large tacos and a side of fries. You're able to get the tacos with corn tortillas if you're allergic. Sadly this was our downfall of the evening. We love that they offered the corn tortillas so that it's an option to those who are gluten intolerant but the issue was within the execution. The corn tacos fell apart while eating them, while in comparison the flour did not. If you're going to grab the tacos with corn get some extra napkins and maybe a set of cutlery as well. The fish tacos are filled with battered house fish, it is a lot of fish which is great. It is just a little hard to eat, for I'm assuming it's the fish they use within their fish and chips. We hope to go back to try more, and hopefully their corn tortillas will improve as well. read more

A popular gem along one of the hippest streets in Chilliwack is Bow and Stern. This is the perfect spot to catch a good drink and sefood! There are so many great options to choose from and they even have happy hour throughout the week too! The raw oysters were part of the happy hour deal for $1.50 each. And they were FRESH!! And we doubled down on the oyster by ordering the po'boy too and it was the best decision ever! The oysters in the sandwich are so plump, juicy and fried just right! And for some greens they have this tremendously stacked seafood salad!! There were soo much seafood that included crab meat, prawns, and halibut. This is one of restaurant that will call you back for more no matter how far the ride is! read more

The fish and chips filets were on the soggy side. The fish tacos had less meat and were pretty soupy. I'm giving 3 stars, mostly because of the food. The server was great. The table was good. Quite noisy for a lunchtime, and the floors were super slick! So be careful heading to the restroom. The fish and chips with cod were good. Tasty. Portions small for fish size, and the chips were spread out on the plate? To make it look like there was more? Not sure but it was a strange presentation. Anyway, cheap as chips people, put a few more on the plate. The halibut pieces were smaller but for the price I'd have loved a real piece. My mums and myself looked like it was a bigger piece sliced through the middle to make 2. Anyway, tasty but stingy. Ceasar salad was fresh but the dressing was lacking. Seems like it had grainy mustard and horseradish but not a lick of anchovies which was disappointing. The parm was in bigger shreds so that was good. Croutons from a box? Fish tacos were ok. Needed some oomph in the salsa. Maybe some spice or some fresh chopped jalepeno. The seafood salad was ok. Seemed kinda tired...old schoolish with too much filler. This was our first visit and for the prices we prob won't come back. Really wanted to like it because of location etc but it was just average food. There wasn't any oohing or awing. This is the second time we went there and it seems like the staff are busy running around doing nothing. Waited 20 minutes to get water then another 15 for coffee and then a waitress with an attitude. We simply asked where was our waitress and with this stare down her response was "I guess that would be me" and she had walked by us at least two or three times. When it comes to fish and chips, halibut is the best. The halibut and chips here did not disappoint... and they have malt vinegar (without which fish and chips are incomplete). Been to Bow & Stern a couple times since then and can safely say that the quality is not consistent for me, unfortunately. Service is great and they have some nice menu options but what really pushed me to write an updated review was my most recent visit. Ordered a dozen oysters, a hot platter, and the seafood linguine. None of the seafood in these dishes were completely fresh and the worst offender was the hot platter. Hot platter: shrimp and fish overcooked, mussels and clams not fresh, and the crab was most likely dead or frozen. The first crab we had on the platter was definitely dead before they cooked it. Just the taste, smell, and sight alone confirmed it. When we raised this with waitress they were happy to cook a new crab for us (which we very much appreciated). The only fault is that she assured us twice that the new crab was fresh and that it was 'swimming' when the cook pulled it out of the tank. When the second crab came, it was slightly better but we found the middle of the meat to be icey cold (which suggests that it may have have been frozen before). Needless to say, we didn't say anything the second time because we felt like we would be too overbearing or rude. However, the taste of the seafood linguine is great but the mussels and clams were in were a no go. read more

I have been there twice now for dinner. And both times the food was not good at all so I would not go back there.

First off, we came after 9pm on Saturday and their website mentions late night happy hour from 9pm to close. It does not say it's only certain days of the week, so we were disappointed to be told by our waitress that happy hour isn't offered on Friday's or Saturdays. One positive is they make a great mojito here! The fish and chips were great in terms of ratio between fish and batter- I do think the batter could have used some salt or something though, as could the fries. For appetizers we had the salmon cakes and the hot and cool prawns- both were good but nothing amazing. Another negative is that scallops are only available at the Chilliwack location. I would have loved to try the scallop carbonera but could not (they shouldn't list it on the menu if it's not available!) My husband had the lobster Mac n cheese which sounded delicious but sadly, it was quite bland. In addition, when eating the leftovers the next day at home- we found pieces of lobster shell! We would have loved to try the hot seafood platter but market price made it $120 which was out of our budget, but it looked amazing. Overall, there are some good options and prices are reasonable but we didn't have anything that was mind blowing. read more

Service: The servers here have been very friendly and overall on the ball about timing and keeping orders straight. Food: The food also is pretty good. We have had oysters here repeatedly and never any complaints here! I especially liked the seafood pasta. Atmosphere: It's kind of like an upscale bar-restaurant. The lighting is kind of dim; there are candles at the tables. Music volume varies by when you go, but has never been ridiculously loud when we went. Price: It is a bit pricey but it was worth it.
