Since this is Northern Illinois, the largest sections are for the Bears and then the Packers. They also sell items for other sports... if anyone cares about anything other than football. Their selection for other sports isn't as wide as it is for football. The staff has always been friendly and helpful when I've gone in. They've even gone out of their way to assist me when I was looking for some particularly hard to find items. If you have a sports fan in your life and you want to get them a gift, I'd suggest stopping by here first.

I'm on tour from Seattle and found myself in dire need of some bridge work done on my bass. Dreading walking into an out of state GC, I was prepared for the worst case scenario, buying a new bass. But I was greeted within seconds by Griffin, Doug and Danny. These guys went above and beyond to get my bass back on the road, I think they could smell my touring desperation. Anyway, they diagnosed my issues imminently. Their tech Danny (who was not on the clock) WENT HOME TO GRAB HIS FILES, then came back to ground down the spurs off my saddles while also operating an immaculate intonation, all in a two hour window. They called me back in to come make sure it was up to my standards, Danny hung out to make sure it checked out. I've had a lot of setups done on this bass, I fully admit that I suck at doing it myself - but I know what I like. Danny is a pro, as was everyone else I encountered. This thing sounds and looks as good as it ever did. So nice to find a guitar center that is still focused on the working musician. These guys really stuck their necks out for me and I couldn't recommend this team enough. You can tell that this location is managed differently, and for that I thank you guys.

When I was younger, we used to go in to look at the novelty items and gag gifts to give to people. As I got older, I didn't frequent as much as I just didn't see items in there I needed or wanted anymore. There comes a time in your life that you don't need another lava lamp, novelty T-shirt, or an ice tray that looks like naked body parts. So it was a surprise to me when I went in there to get some gag items for my wife's birthday to find out that the back third of the store is almost all an adult toy shop. Lingerie, adult toys, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a prude and it didn't bother me, it just surprised me as I don't remember Spencer's ever having that stuff. Sure I hadn't been in there in a LONG time, I just never realized that's what it had become. I've been in there since to get items for St. Pats and a couple of gag items for birthday milestones.
