Some friends and I recently took a trip to stay at a cabin in the Rockford area. We had planned to go cross country skiing and found that Rocktown Adventures rents xc skis in the winter. What we had not planned on was how slow we would be at finally leaving the cabin to go pick up the skis. Since they unfortunately don't do reservations for the skis, we called ahead to make sure they had some before heading over. By the time we got there it was already around 3 pm and unbeknownst to us, they close at 5 pm on the weekends. We got started with the rental process only to realize we would have very little time to ski before sundown. After explaining a couple options we had for still getting out on the skis, the staff member ultimately told us it probably wouldn't be worth our money given our time constraints. Instead of staying quiet, taking our money, and letting us have a very short ski trip, the staff member suggested the option that was best for us! He then told us that if we were ever back in town to just give them a call and if they had skis available he'd have them ready for us when we arrived. Not only is the staff knowledgeable and caring but they have an incredible selection of gear. We didn't end up spending any money there, and that is exactly why this was a five star experience!

When we used it in November for the first time everything was fine until we tried to use the handle, after all the clothes filled up the suit case, the handle wouldn't not pull out. We went the entire trip pushing around the suit case without the ability to use the handle. I waited until January and decided to take the suit case back to the store after only using it once. I just wasn't right. The store could do nothing and recommended calling customer service. I called customer service and they asked for the date of purchase, my tjmax credit card number, my name, address, phone number and E-mail address. They said that they would research it and get back to me. 5 days later they got back to me and said since it was past the return policy date they could do nothing. Really! Why didn't they tell me that up front when I provided all that information. What a waste of time! Never did the customer rep. or store say anything regarding the return policy until they decision was made. Now I'm stuck with a suit case with a handle that doesn't work. They just lost a customer and they don't care. I have other choices like Amazon, Costco, Sam's Club or Kohls. Not Sierra!

The store has totally changed my views on locally owned shops. Prices are actually not higher than the mall (Nordstrom, Macy's, etc.), the staff are actually kind and helpful, and there is a cute dog hanging out and wagging its tail! So why did I choose Clear Water Outdoor over the others? Because I love technology and the ease of online booking. Gone are the days of actually having to talk to someone! Verbal communication, such a daunting task! Their website is easy to navigate. You pick a day, how many boards you want to rent, pick a time slot and pay. Done and done. When we arrived to the storefront the rental process was pretty seamless. They took my drivers license and walked me over the the park across the lake where 2 boards were ready to go. It is a 5 minute walk from the store to the park BTW. Oh and they have a safe place to store your belongings in the store because there is no where to put it on the beach.

The 2 minutes I was in there he somehow found a way to charge me without helping me with anything that I actually wanted. I used to go to the old shop a bunch when I was really young so I have been giving them business for years. They didn't recognize me when I walked in but I won't be coming back to get a bow "serviced". To wrap it all up, he said "you don't have any friends with a bow?", as I was paying him for nothing, then I got fed up and left.
