Prices are good enough too, and they can usually squeeze us in when we need. I will say the employees tend to smoke out front and as a migraine sufferer that makes it hard for me sometimes (even to walk by while running other errands), and the smell of smoke maybe on their clothes is slightly present in the shop (but my dog doesnt come home smelling bad so it's ok). read more

I cannot recommend Bows and Bones Pet Grooming at the location near Brandermill. We took our dog to be groomed last Thursday and that very evening she became sick and has had diarrhea (5 days not). Just got back from the vet and had a $250 vet bill trying to get her back to normal. She was traumatize. Our dog is only 7 months old and you would think working with animals all the time they would be able to deal with animals that are just starting out getting groomed. They clipped her backside so short that her skin is irritated, they didn't even clean her ears, they are full of matted hair, didn't clean her eyes, and hardly clipped her nails. Then they tell you that when they call to tell you your pet is done, if you don't pick up your pet within the hour there will be another charge. Really! Also did not find the staff very friendly. A small 14.5 pound dog cost $80! read more

My first impression of Bows & Bones was how clean it looked and how fresh it smelled. I didn't notice the smell of wet dog hanging in the air. The floors were clean and swept. The staff was friendly and greeted me and my dog as soon as we entered. They had a thorough questionnaire for my pup which I found helpful to describe my dog's personality and physical condition. They use text messages to remind me of appointments and let me know when my pup was finished with his grooming. When I came to pick up my dog, he looked well groomed. The cut was consistent all over. He was happy and not anxious to see me. It's wonderful to have an experienced, local dog groomer. Horrible service! Simply embarrassing on their part. They used to be reliable, but now... absolutely horrid customer service and communication. Had to book a month out in advance (which didn't bother me as that seemed a good sign that business is good). I dropped off my babies at 8am, and the groomer came out and asked how short i wanted them both groomed. I showed the groomer that I wanted the shortest cut possible on their grooming display. I Received a call 5 hours later that they were ready to be picked up. when I went to pick up my dogs, they had only been bathed... not groomed. I was super confused so when I inquired about them not being groomed, the response I got was "you only wanted a wash." I responded with "then why did I book 2 dog GROOMINGS, and why was i asked how short I wanted their cuts to be." To which the employee said nothing and simply walked back into the back. I even called back to inquire about the absolute failure of their communication and was hung up on. Btw they charged me twice and was even told that I might have to call my bank to get one of the charges reversed. Pathetic business model, and to think I used to sing their praises. Absolutely the worst dog groomer in Richmond. They do have a high rating which originally brought us in but the experience and quality they have is lacking. If you have any sort of doodle or curly long haired dog these people just do not have experience. The two cuts we got there were horrible. The dog even knew he looked bad. They are also very rude people. They complain about a dog who nibbles when he is a puppy. If you are not used to that you definitely are in the wrong business or you could have solved the problem with a quick muzzle if locks and nibbles scare you so much. They also were very rude to my girlfriend when picking up the dog. Overall I have told as many people as possible about my horrible experiences. I will never be back. They should have better quality and customer service especially when charging over a hundred dollars for a cut. They rip you off and do below one star work. read more

My husband and I recently dropped off our three year old dog for his first grooming experience. That night, we noticed that he was limping heavily on one leg. We were not informed of any occurrences by the store, but I called and left a message asking that someone contact me as I was worried he may have to go to the vet. I never received a call back. I just left Bows and Bones (a place I have gone to several times and have been generally pleased with). When the groomer brought my dog out to me, she said she "did what she could." I instantly noticed his left eye was blood red and he was more scared than usual. When I asked what happened she said she thought he was scared and maybe that's what caused it?? Huh?? No one could tell me what happened? I believe the manager/owner was even sitting there watching all of this. Clearly, I was upset and without question they let me just leave... I took my dog to the vet to have them look him over and they said that it looked like he may have "bumped his head" hard enough to break the blood vessels behind his eye to cause the bleeding...Gotcha. (being scared did not cause this...CONFIRMED VET FACT). I will not be taking my dog here again. Brought both of my doodles in for a groom. They did a great job and it was fast. Dogs were only there for 2.5 hours. I hate places that have you drop off your dog first thing and then pick up at the end of the day.. after being home with my dogs for a couple of days I have noticed some things. The groomers at Bows & Bones are absolutely wonderful!! I have 2 black labs that needed their nails clipped and a bath. My boys are still puppies, even though they weigh over 80lbs each. They have only socialized with one another so I was a bit leery with them being among other dogs. The groomers reassured me that they would be fine. When I came to pick them up, 2 hours later, they was actually out and playing in the back with another dog and groomer. I was so happy; not only did they smell great, look great, they also was introduced to another dog and was doing awesome. I know my situation is not ideal, but I say this because the groomers was so professional as well as help ease my fear of having my boys around other dogs. I am definitely going to be bringing the boys back to Bows & Bones for their next deep conditioning and nail clippings. Did I mention, the boys smelled like cookies....YUM!!! read more

Horrible experience this week concerning my two Terriers. One had her ear nipped by the clippers. The other one had a red rash from her stomach to her vaginal area that was not brought to my attention. Trip to the vet confirmed that the Clippers were used too close to the skin. I called Bones And Bows to talk to the manager who was conveniently out of the store. I was told she would be given the message to call me back I'm still waiting. All I have to say is avoid this place they don't know what they're doing. I should've walked out when I heard them discussing another client that was unhappy and asking for a refund. These folks ate consistently good to my older girl. She is crate anxious so they take care of her and get her back to me as fast as possible to eliminate any crate time. I am so grateful to Willow and her staff at Bows and Bones for how understanding and accommodating they were for me and my dog. With my dog having had two knee surgeries in each knee and arthritic hips, we have had some bad experiences with groomers in the past where she has come home limping. So, we were nervous to take her somewhere new when we moved to RVA. Willow was kind enough to explain the process over the phone, and let me come back into the salon and sit with my dog throughout the whole process. She was fast but very efficient and did a very thorough job de-shedding my Australian Kelpie's infamous "double coat." Very unfriendly staff and unprofessional at dealing with customers issues. Overall everyone looks very unhappy to be there. I will discontinue to take my dogs to this groomer. I'm not one of those crazy dog parents. I work in customer service and I would never treat my customers the way they did, so disrespectful! As a small business owner myself that kind of behavior would NOT be tolerated at my place. I always make sure my customers feel understood and cared for with an issues. Very unfriendly staff and unprofessional at dealing with customers issues. Overall everyone looks very unhappy. I was told it was going to take 2-3 hours I checked on them twice because I didn't want to be late within those times. I was told they weren't ready, I was ok with that, I understand sometimes they run later, but the last time I checked I was told it was going to be another hour so I went out for one more hour. I got a call back 10 mins later telling they were ready when I already was doing something else since I was told another hour. I got there an hour late. I asked since I was told an addition hour and I had been on top of the 2-3 hours I was giving in the beginning could they wave the fee. They told me no and that the reason they took longer was because of my fault for checking on them. I was so confused to why they were blaming me for them running a hour late??? The lady up front was extremely rude and you as a manager didn't even tell her anything and allowed her to slam the door as she huffed and puffed to the back. If you guys have such a strong policy with that then make sure you are ready within the times you say and if you are running late don't blame the customers. I understand it's a Saturday and it's very busy and you need the dogs to be picked up at certain times but Keep in mind you guys took way longer than what I was told and if you want people to be mindful of your times be mindful of people's times too. This whole things could of been handled completely different and instead I was told it was my fault for coming to check on them. read more

We take both our dogs here. They pay close attention to pairing the right groomer with the right dog. They are also prompt but still do a great job...no need to leave your dog at the groomer for the entire day. My dogs always come out happy and beautiful. read more
