4 Piece Chicken Tenders and fries
    Paul J.

We happened upon Boxcar Betty's after an unsatisfying dinner elsewhere and stopped in for a "small" bite. We shared an order of tenders and fries and it hit the spot! Crispy fried chicken, tender on the inside, flavorful and tasty. And the crispiest fries I have ever had, ever, no question! I liked the honey mustard sauce better than the BBQ sauce, and I wished they had vinegar for the fries, but these are just quibbles about an amazing meal. Definitely worth a visit!

Salad w/ Fried Chicken. Can get tomatoes too. Great flavor, very fresh. Big salad, I saved half for lunch the next day.

Great fried chicken! Good flavor, seasoning, tastes fresh. Good service. Owner/franchisee is always around. Try the salad (very fresh greens) w/ grilled fried chicken. Good flavor. Get your veggies in while you treat yourself. Fries are good too. Chicken tenders are 100Xs better than Mickey D's. Get the tenders to go. The sandwiches are super good too. Highly recommend.

I've only had BoxCar Betty's a few times from their original location in South Carolina. Management at the restaurant was friendly and greeted us at the entrance. We placed our order and sat down. Our order arrived fast and it was everything was perfect. Our group ordered three BoxCar sandwiches, and why would you eat anything else. Our food arrived hot and filled with pickles, spicy mayo, peach coleslaw, pimento cheese, and fried chicken. There are three protein choices of Fried Chicken, Grilled Chicken, or Pimiento Stuffed Portobello Mushroom cap that come in the four main sandwiches. I love that you can also build your own sandwich.

This is a AWESOME $10 lunch spot!! It's the typical quick lunch spot with small tables. The fries were good and seasoned. The chicken sandwich is better than that Popeyes one. I said what I said, lol. Only draw back is I don't like the pimento cheese and they don't take Apple Pay. But you can sit down and eat. I have already told multiple co-workers and I will be back on Monday!!!

I pass by this storefront every day on my way to work. It's located in the 2nd floor corridor of the Citibank building so a bit difficult to find if you don't know frequent though that corridor. If you take the Olgivie station trains, its the shop just before the sky bridge over Canal St. I have a fondness for chicken that is fried and biscuits. Put them together and we're pretty good friends. The biscuit didn't hold up too well (tad crumbly when squished together), but was quite tasty. I tried the chicken sandwich with some honey and their buffalo sauce. The buffalo sauce was a bit lighter than what I was expecting. I think there was a squirt of lemon which was quite pleasing since it's not as harsh as vinegar. The sweetness of the honey countered well with the acid in the buffalo. It's a pretty good sandwich for sure. They claim to have one of South Carolina's best chicken biscuits...pretty darn good I say! Worth a try.

That's not enough slaw...but sandwich was great and the fries were nice and seasoned.

The last sandwich place here didn't do so well. I sure hope BB's lasts a lot longer! Yay! I love chicken sandwich places! I came by for lunch and was really surprised to see how busy it was. You order at the front and kind of shimmy along with the rest of the line as your order is being made and called out. I ordered the Boxcar and it was delicious! My only real complaint was that it came with no more than a tablespoon of coleslaw. Check out my pic. It's kind of pitiful. The fries were great and I loved how you get to choose your own sauces. I only tried the ranch and the spicy mayo. The mayo was good but I didn't find it spicy at all. Great for dipping the super seasoned fries in. The ranch was a joke. It was waaaaay too watered down down and had the consistency of skim milk and just was not appetizing. Even though the quality control is a bit lacking, I was still incredibly impressed. Because at the end of the day it's all about the chicken and it was fantastic. Juicy, moist and seasoned well. That pimento ain't bad neither.

This place is awesome!!! Omg, probably one of my new favorite biscuit place for now. I was visiting Chicago and was browsing around places. Since it was early in the morning, so not many places are open yet. I saw this place and it caught my attention. I'm always a fan of chicken biscuit. I decided to walk in and try it out. Friendly greeting from the owner or one of the worker there. I ordered two of their chicken biscuit. One specialty and one regular. It was delicious, I can have them every single morning, lunch, or dinner. Overall, a must go place for me. Only thing is that the wait time is a little longer than expected. It was worth it though! :)

First time eating here with my wife! Food was delicious! Chicken sandwiches (the Betty and the box car) both had great flavor and tasted so fresh! I usually always have a sauce for my fries to dip in but these seasoned fries were great just by themselves, that's a first! Thank you for your polite, quick courteous service!

Very good for a quick takeout burger / meal. Reminds me of a nicer in&out or five guys, just better and less greasy. The fried chicken could've used more spice for my tastes, but was good nonetheless. Again - it's a fast casual takeout spot in an office building - above par. Pro-tip: there's a "park" a block over near Caterpillar's offices. Grab your food and sit on the benches over there.

Love, love, love fried chicken and Boxcar Betty's helped satisfy that love. While it may not be the greatest fried chicken I've ever had it still hit the spot. Ordered the Build Your Own Chicken Sandwich with fried chicken, pimiento cheese and housemade pickles and a side of fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were like burn-your-tongue-hott when they came out. They were a little too greasy for my taste and too large a serving for just one person. Really yummy ranch to dip in mmm mmm.

    Any gluten free options available?

For the deep fried chicken? No. But they have grilled chicken and salad option.

Nobody's performing, everybody's happy to be there, and the staff treated us like they were glad we showed up. Start with the sweet tea. It's the real thing. The Nashville hot chicken and waffles is the move. The heat has actual flavor behind it instead of just burn, and it builds in a way that keeps you going back for another bite. Then I tried the shrimp and grits and had a small crisis about which one I liked better. Still haven't settled it. The grits were creamy, the shrimp had real seasoning, and I cleaned the plate. Fair warning: none of this food is for anyone on a diet. That's the point. Come hungry, wear the forgiving pants, and let somebody else count things for the day.

He had curly hair, was light skinned, and appeared to be either a waiter or busser. While we were seated, he bumped into my chair at least three times and even hit me in the back of the head while trying to move around the area. He apologized each time, but after it kept happening, it became frustrating and uncomfortable. He was also spraying 409 heavily at the table right next to us while we were eating. It was so much spray that I genuinely felt like it may have gotten on my food. On top of that, he repeatedly dropped things around our table and seemed to have a difficult time maneuvering through the dining area. It honestly made me wonder if the table placement itself was part of the problem The food service was also disappointing. My meal came out first, and I had to wait quite a while for my sister's chicken biscuit. When it finally arrived, the chicken was not cooked all the way through. My pancake and bacon were both good. I just wish the overall experience had matched the quality of those items. Between being repeatedly bumped into, being hit in the head, cleaning chemicals being sprayed next to our food, and undercooked chicken, it made the experience difficult to enjoy.

He removed plates of finished food from tables, and even explained the desert options to us. Well done. The food was delicious! I usually have to add salt to my food. We arrived 20 minutes before our scheduled reservation, but we were seated within five minutes of arriving. The server, David, greeted us promptly when we were seated. He mentioned that if you're ordering appetizers, they should be ordered with the main meal. While we looked over the menu, water was offered. I ordered Blackened Catfish over brown rice and carrots. The catfish was tender and perfectly seasoned. My brother had grilled flounder with creamed corn. Like the catfish, the trout was tender and well-seasoned. The corn had a slight sweetness. Roger had Short ribs and mashed potatoes. The ribs were tender and did not need any sauce because they were seasoned well. We also ordered a side dish of Macaroni and Cheese. It was delicious! A mixture of Gouda cheese and other cheeses. Very creamy! The top layer cheese was baked perfectly! If you know, you know, it's all about the top layer of cheese The APPETIZERS: The Gumbo was spicy but delicious! You only taste the spice at the end . It's not overly spicy; it's just right. The fried chicken gizzards were tender but could have used a bit more seasoning. It was served over brown rice and gravy. If I'm not mistaken, there were maybe 8 or 9 gizzards. The fried green tomatoes were perfect! From the seasoning to the grilled shrimp on top. Oh yes, grilled shrimp with this delicious sauce drizzled over the tomatoes. 3 or 4 shrimp. They were delicious! I've never had fried green tomatoes served w/grilled shrimp--definitely a must-try if you've never had it. For dessert, pineapple upside-down cake with coconut cream on the side. It was soooo good! They could have removed the coconut cream, as it was not needed. And it was a shareable portion for 2-3 ppl. There were other desserts, such as Blueberry Cobbler, Key Lime Pie, and Vanilla Ice Cream. If you're in the Hyde Park area, give these folks a try Oh yeah, the Manager, Louis, was walking the floor. I spoke with him briefly From what I observed, it's a very casual dress code--jeans, shorts, blazers, etc. And I loved the quotes on the outside window of those who were killed, like George Floyd and Sandra Bland. This place was nice! The dining area was clean and decorated nicely. The choice of decor fit the overall scheme I look forward to visiting again, possibly next Spring.
