For me, this is a one stop shop for my Christmas shopping for some friends of mine that love Potato Head, Snoopy, Star War, Star Trek, and new Japanese characters. However, we made a list of gag gifts fore fellow colleagues desk of coffee cups of characters that got their personality. We spent 45 minutes laughing and scheming of the many options and characters! When BoxLunch first opened, I thought, "Hot Topic has competition now!" It's located right beside Hot Topic too. Later on I found out it's opened by Hot Topic. OH! BoxLunch is basically an expansion of Hot Topic, but just focused on anime apparel and collectibles, Funkos, Disney/Marvel, DC, and other pop culture items and accessories. I've been wanting to come in this store each time I go to Ala Moana, but there's always a line. Finally one day, there was no line, but I still had to wait outside because it was at capacity. It's great they are strict with the capacity, and I noticed the staff does a head count every so often of customers inside. The store is small, clean, and jam-packed with stuff, and everything is pretty organized. In comparison to Hot Topic, the prices here are kind of expensive. $28.90 seems to be the usual price for shirts. They do have promotions such as Buy one, get the second 30% off. Funkos are $10.90 each, and those sometimes have a buy one, get one half off promo. If you want to save money, and time, I strongly suggest shopping online and doing in store pick up as there are additional discounts on the website as well as a 10% off bonus discount for in store pickup. Another way is to ask for an online price match, but you lose out on the 10%. Overall, I do like (window) shopping here as there are a bunch of interesting things and BoxLunch exclusive items, but I feel it's becoming more like an Animation Magic store rather than a Hot Topic spinoff, and the prices are quite high. I love this cute store.... it feeds into my inner nerd. They carry variety range of items from disney, animal crossing, marvel, etc. I came here for a chip fake succulent plant. It makes a great desk piece (to prepare for my new job desk decor). They have mickey succulent but chip looked better. Mickey would just be his pants and it looks weird .... With Covid, they obit allow 6 customers in the store at a time.. so there is a line and the store is very small. read more

I love everything in Box Lunch. Do I want to spend all the moneys on the things? Not really, but I think about it a lot. This store is all the way at the highest level in Ala Moana, right next to Hot Topic. Its like the not so emo but friendly next door neighbor. It feels a bit more spacious and bright too. I can find the cutest Disney items. If Loungefly had better quality, I'd buy a lot more of the bags and accessories. The price isn't super high up there, but its not cheap either. I have found good deals on clearance items, but I feel I have to they a lot harder to find treasures. If you're into any TV show or Disney characters, I would definitely pop in for a looksie. I came to this location with my 9 year old daughter and Yelp friend, Michelle R. My daughter loves the shirts here and I love Hello Kitty! I ended up buying two shirts and a third shirt and got 30% off. I also got my daughter 3 pins and a hat. I almost spent $100. BoxLunch and Hot Topic are both some of my all time favorite stores over the years and hasn't disappointed me yet! I did order online and pick up for the first time here today and it was pretty easy. I ordered my stuff last week online and got an email saying it's ready for pick up today so I went to pick it up. The line was pretty long so I just looked around until the line died down. It didn't take that long luckily. I got my stuff and the cashier that was helping me was really nice! She gave me a discount that I didn't know I could have so that was really nice of her! I also managed to get the last Inuyasha funko that was sitting behind the register forever happy! The only negative thing I have with box lunch is that the products there are pretty expensive compared to hot topic. But other than that, I love the stuff they sell! read more

BUYER BEWARE of BoxLunch Money scam. Store claims that you will receive $15 worth of BoxLunch Money for every $30 that you spend. The store no longer issues a physical coupon stating that BoxLunch Money is now digital. I went back to the store during the redemption period expecting to receive a $15 discount on my purchase but was told that I did not have any BoxLunch Money rewards. The clerk claims that the 2 purchases that I made in August were under $30 so I did not earn any BoxLunch Money. However, I spent over $30 in July but the clerk claims that that purchase was made on the last day of redemption so no rewards were earned. I find it very strange that the store had the signs out regarding earning BoxLunch Money on the day that I made my purchase, and the clerk also told me that the coupons are now digital so they did not have a coupon to give me. I will just wait another week and go to Hot Topic where I have $45 dollars of Hot Cash. And, YES, I have actual coupons to prove that I did earn the rewards. Unfortunately, I think that Hot Topic is also doing away with the physical coupons so customers, may, or may not get the promised discount. It is very sad that a national store like BoxLunch would scam customers. I have spent a lot of money there in the past, but will take my business elsewhere from now on. read more

They have just enough things on shelves so you can browse easily. The staff are very helpful too. It's a cute little store. They're located on the top floor of the mall. read more

Absolutely love the Sailor Moon section! Beautiful popping light pink wall attracted me to staying in this section the most. I was looking for new items to add to my collection and I was able to find them all ready to be taken home! It was pretty busy inside but at least I was checked on. I weaved around the store and can honestly say that I like this location so much more than Pearlridge..which kind of sucks because Ala Moana is far from my neck of the woods.. Since I don't like ordering online mainly for the inconvenience, I will be back in the near future hoping they have different selection. read more

Box lunch in Hawaii = One word! AWESOME! I Attended the soft opening on 12/13/16 at 6pm with my family and was very happy! They had a kahuna bless the store and upon entering the employees greeted us all with leis! Store: So I'm just gonna be straight forward and say that if you like shopping in hot topic then you're pretty much going to like shopping here, and ironically this store is right next door to hot topic lol. Funko pop vinyl collection is pretty much on the same back wall, and they've got a nice collection of the box lunch exclusive funko pops. Also lots of great clothing From Star Wars to five nights at Freddy's and Harley Quinn, DC, Marvel, Deadpool and more! Staff: The staff here is really really friendly and definitely helpful! That's always a plus when you come into a store like this. You can ask them anything and they're all knowledgeable. Because of these women were allowed to bring their pet dogs into the store, earlier, I ended up having allergies. I'm allergic to animal dander. The store was obviously not able to clean up the dander. No pets allowed. Therapy animals yes. These dogs were obviously pets. They pulled on their leashes and had no animal assistance vests on. By the time I got home, I was congested, sneezing, blowing my nose and my eyes were itchy. Managers need to step out and not allow pets in the store. This isn't a pet store. read more

They are located on the fourth floor of Ala Moana right between Hot topic and Abercrombie & Fitch. I haven't purchased anything from here yet, they are pretty pricey, Even their clearance section is still a little high up there in price. The store is pretty small but stocked with so much things. First time shopping here and I gotta say, I was excited. I'm a novelty shirt wearing kinda guy and this place brought back some memories of old school cartoons or shows. It's like a Rated G version of Hot Topics or Spencers, but with a little more Disney merchandise. My wife and I were out trying to buy some shirts for my kids, but ended up buying my shirts for myself lol. They had merchandise from shows that I grew up watching like Rugrats, The Last Airbender, Duck Tales, Rockos Modern Life, Dragonball Z, TMNT, Toy Story, and so much more. The parking is in the Ala Moana Center so there's a lot. The staff here are friendly and peer pressured me into signing up for their free rewards program lol. Nah it's actually for a good cause..I forgot what it was specifically, but it was something to do with donating money or food to the food bank for every dollar amount that I spend or something like that. read more

Customer service at its worst. While browsing in store the other day, I overheard the cashier telling the customer that his shirt was inside (which I thought was a nice gesture) he then said he did it on purpose. But later when she asked ask if he wanted to donate a few change to round up, he said no that he needed the change. The (lady) cashier seemed insisted on rounding up his change to be donated to feed the hunger, be he still declined. At the end of the transaction the cashier told the guy you probably don't need the receipt anyways, and he replied yes I do. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Rick & Morty, Disney, Bob's Burgers, etc. Personally I think some of the prices are a little high for what you get, but sometimes you have to give in because their stuff is so cute! I find myself browsing through every time I go to the mall. They do have some good sales, especially when they have additional 50% off clearance at times. Most recently, I scored a Molskine Minion journal! I don't journal, but I do love minions, and it came out to only be like $6.00! I can definitely find a use for it. I was helped by Megan. She is very friendly and I was greeted and informed of promotions immediately as I entered the store. I was checked on periodically as I browsed without being hovered over. This store always has new and exciting things! They have the same owner as the Hot Topic stores. I find BoxLunch is the cuter, friendlier and sweeter sister of the more goth/emo Hot Topic. The store is organized by the show/character you are trying to look for. For example there's a section for Game of Thrones (They have dragon egg book cases!), Gilmore girls (cute shirts with quotes from the show), Guardians of the Galaxy (this is where I bought my beloved Baby Groot)! The workers are always so friendly and helpful. When i recently went in there was a sale promotion: if you buy a bag (it can be a backpack, handbag etc) you get 25% off whatever you can fit in it. Box Lunch...sorry no food sold here. Though for every $10 spent will help provide a meal for a person in need. Seeing the ad near the entrance caught my attention. Box Lunch is located on the third level of Ala Moana Center next to Hot Topic. I stepped foot into Box Lunch and was greeted by the employee near the entrance. Thursday afternoon was the first time I entered the store. I noticed that the store sold merchandises ranging from shirts, billfold wallets, fleece blankets, board games, stuffed animals, Pokémon balls, cups, shot glasses, and even small pins. There were merchandises promoting popular movies or television series as well as the latest game craze like Pokémon and Five Nights at Freddy's. A person could find Games of Thrones, Star Wars, Suicide Squad, Batman, and Once Upon a Time themes. The merchandises that really stood out to me are the graphic shirts, fleece blankets, and the few stuff animals the store has in stock. I was so tempted to get one of the stuff animal character from Five Nights at Freddy's to add to my collection. The graphic tee shirt of Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad looked interesting...I'll save that for my next visit. I ended up choosing one fleece blanket out of all the merchandises that the store has in stock. There were several different themes for the fleece blanket so I ended up getting the Once Upon a Time theme. I was about to stand in line when a friendly female employee asked if I was ready to purchase. I said "Yes" and handed her the fleece blanket. Box Lunch has a rewards program...provide a email address and phone number to sign up for FREE. The store accepts cash or credit/debit as payments. The way I like to describe Boxlunch to geek friends is that it's like a Hot Topic *without* all the crap we don't care about like the "edgy" clothing, band shirts, piercings, etc. (I don't think hot topic will ever get away from that sort of branding or reputation.) Box lunch is just pure fandom magic. It's the store I've always wanted and has all of my favorite fandoms: Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, and even some Disney merchandise! What I also love is that it's not just figures and cups and stuff but there's a good balance of clothing items as well. Whoever does their merchandising is on-point. Did not even know this place existed until I walked out of Hot Topic to find this store right next door! It's hard not to compare the two stores to each other, they're similar but different! BoxLunch is like a neater, more-boutique, spacier version of Hot Topic. They sell similar types of merchandise, various paraphernalia for Disney, Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC Comics, Harry Potter, Dr. Who, bath bombs, bath soaps, candles, incense. Did I just say Star Wars AND Star Trek?!? Say, "Whaaaat?" It's almost random and you never know what you'll find here. Sailor Moon wand, Star Wars light saber, Little Mermaid jewelry. Being a Trekkie, I was shocked in awe to see them selling Star Trek 50th Anniversary necklaces! It was locked up in the display case, so I couldn't touch them....... Great place for gifts, and for finding that perfect little thing that you've been searching for all your life. You'll never know what you might come across here, especially if you're a fan and looking for these types of things! If I really had to compare between Hot Topic and BoxLunch: Hot Topic is more about the shirts and costumes, Pop figures, and gothy style, and accessories, BoxLunch is more about the other cooler stuff (SailorMoon wand, Star Wars light saber, Star Trek (not just regular Star Trek, it's 50th Anniversary merchandise!!)). It was love at first look. While shopping around Ala Moana for a gift, we came across this store in Ala Moana, located next to Hot Topic on the upper floor. Upon entering and gasping at the sight of so many glorious Disney and Harry Potter things, I started to run around the whole store to the song "What's this? Whats this!" from Nightmare Before Christmas, in my mind. I believe the store is related to Hot Topic and actually holds a lot of merch that Hot Topic does, but so much more! The store is bright and super inviting, and has certain sections for Disney lovers, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, etc etc. They carry a lot of different stuff that I hadn't seen before, which was really cool. Their store associates are also super friendly, always offering their assistance. Overall: The Good: -Location: Being located in Ala Moana, theres plenty of parking available. My fiancé and I only been here a couple of times but most of the visits we've had were kind of odd. Odd in a way as in we feel like we are being followed around the store and being told over and over about the sales or deals they have even though they told us at the door. I mean I understand that they might think we are shoplifting or something but being 3-5 ft away from us trying to shop and popping up out of nowhere is kind of weird and uncomfortable. Me and my boyfriend walked in and noticed that one of the employees were following us. Like 2 feet away from us just staring, everywhere we went. It was insanely obvious and she didn't even pretend to be working or hide the fact that she was following us, just stared at us and walked into all the same aisles we were in, super creepy. Very disappointed as of late with the staff at Boxlunch. Went on a trip to Hawaii with my family for a week. Decided to do some shopping and drop by boxlunch for some pops. And hope to possibly find a chase. I asked the staff member with a beard at Ala Moana, HI and he had informed me that "Chases are only given out on Saturdays." Are you kidding me. It takes away the fun of finding a chase in the wild. And a store that knows how many chases they have. You would have to be there at 5am on a saturday morning to even get a chance. I do not agree with this and wanted to see if there was anything BoxLunch can do about it. If its policy then i am in the wrong. But ive never heard of this before, Im from Nashville and never had this issue. I shop at BoxLunch all the time, but to tell me you can only get Chases on Saturdays.... really bummed me out on my whole trip to HI. read more
