5/5 : Today was my 3rd class at BoxUnion and I'm loving it! I first tried it through a ClassPass trial. Parking is easy with validation (1 hr 15 mins) in the structure... just don't go over or you'll lose it. Street parking works too if you're early. When you arrive, you will need to check-in. There's always been different receptionists each time and they have been kind. There are small lockers at check-in, and large mirrors, showers, hair ties, lotion, shaving cream, q-tips, and a hair dryer in the restroom. Our instructor, Omar, is very personable and makes newcomers feel welcome. He announced he now only teaches BoxUnion Burn (1 Hr) at 10:45 AM on Saturdays. I was nervous at first, especially seeing the dark room, LED lights, and loud music. I get overstimulated easily, but they offer ear plugs and I liked how spacious it was. You'll need to rent gloves and wraps ($10-15 each) unless you bring your own. After my first class, I invested in them and a ClassPass membership (they have their own too) since I only come once a week and don't live nearby. The class includes punching combos, HIIT, ab work, and freestyle. Omar took the time to correct my form. Highly recommend stretching beforehand. Haven't tried other instructors, but if you prefer focusing on form, ask if any trainers offer personal sessions. I highly recommend this class if traditional gyms aren't your thing or you just want to hit something for funzies :b! I attended an evening class at BoxUnion's Robertson location and arrived 15 minutes early, as instructed. We were informed that we needed to purchase wraps and rent gloves, but there was no staff available at the front desk to assist us. By the time someone finally arrived to help with the rental process, it took so long that we missed the first 10 minutes of an already short class, which was incredibly frustrating. After the class, I reached out to the studio to share my concerns, but I never received a response. While I understand that they may have been understaffed, the high rental and purchase prices made the experience even more disappointing--especially since we didn't get to fully participate in the session. read more

Let me preface this with the fact the I REALLY love the classes and the instructors here. Bought a 30-pack of classes and was planning to get a membership after my 30-pack. I've taken 10 classes here so far and have never been late or no-showed once. Today on my way in to an 8:30am class from DTLA to WeHo my eta jumped from 8:25 to 8:40. When I noticed this I called the studio immediately. I've been taking group fitness classes for 20 years and was so put-off by the response I got. The guy at the front desk this morning told me about the 8 minute late policy where you can't take the class if you're more than 8 minutes late. Totally understandable. You'd miss the entire warm up and disrupt the class. The warm-up is super important to avoid injury. But if you don't make it in time or don't show up they're going to charge you no matter the situation. I'm very rarely late to group classes having been an instructor myself at one point and all the studios I've ever worked and/or been to have at the very least been lenient on the fee the first time. I spoke to the manager about it and she confirmed that there would be zero leniency regarding the fee or class forfeiture no matter the circumstance. I would also understand if someone makes a habit out of it but today I left my apartment 45 minutes early to arrive in the studio 15 minutes early like I have been only to find out that today's trip was actually going to take 40 minutes and then en-route jumped to a 55 minute drive. I ended up driving like a crazy person which was not ok in order to make it just in time. This whole situation gave me the ick about this studio and like I'm just a number. I will finish out my classes because they're too damn expensive to not use them, but will be finding a new studio once they're all gone. Demont and Alex have theee best playlists if you're an older millennial who loves rap/hip-hop from our heyday. Myles got the best new rap/hip hop playlists. Took a class with Julia as well but don't remember anything about the playlist. All the instructors and classes have been great though! read more

I've been a member in this studio for 2,5 years. I used to looking forward to my classes, the studio had great coaches-not one or two, but many. It's not cheap but I loved it and did not mind paying the price. For the past couple of month all good coaches left, the studio does not offer what it used to have. I canceled my membership but stuck with them for another month, unfortunately. They won't release you without 30 day notice. There are many places where for a less price I can have a better training. Would not recommend anyone unless something changes. read more

Myles was an incredible instructor with immaculate vibes; he had such great energy and played a fantastic playlist along with providing greats cues all throughout class. I wanted to keep going and actually could not believe the 45 minute class went by so fast. Myles made it so fun that I wanted to keep going! The studio is super clean, front desk staff very friendly and welcoming and overall I can't recommend this studio enough! I love me some BoxUnion! Sometimes all you need is a good crew surrounding you, a bag to punch, a dark room filled with tons of energy, and a good beat to match each punch when glove meets the bag. This studio just had their Grand Opening this past weekend, this is their 2nd location-- the first location being in Santa Monica. Lets get to the details: Parking: 75 minutes free with validation in the Robertson Plaza on level P2. There is also a 2 hour free structure across the street at 123 S Robertson Blvd. As well as meter parking up and down the street. Location: In the Robertson Plaza Studio: There is a raised stage area for the instructor in the middle of the room and boxing bags on both sides of the stage. I believe there are 40 bags. Each person gets their own bag that has a towel on it, as well as weights under. Workout: its not just a boxing class, it is so much more. For our class we started off without the gloves getting to understand the basic moves as well as warming up the body with some jumping jacks, fast feet, squats etc, and then putting the combos together. Then we did some of the moves with the weights, then it was glove time. Each move, each punch, matched the beat of the music. We also did some ab work near the end of the workout. For our class we had Jon as our insructor and his energy was electric. He was clear in what moves we were doing, he was encouraging, and his pacing was perfect. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro, you are able to get a great workout no matter what! Honestly, I was a sweaty mess when class ended--- in a good way :) Amenities: Has a good size waiting area with a few benches as you get wrapped up before class. Plenty of lockers available to put your belongings. Bathrooms and showers clean and fully stocked with whatever you need (dry shampoo is my boo after the sweat sesh that is bound to happen). A water dispenser near the bathroom, dont forget to bring your water bottle with you. Front desk to check you in for class, answer any questions you may have and get you gloves and wraps if you need them. There is nothing bad I can say about this studio. It was an incredible workout! You cant help but feel like a badass after spending that time punching the bag! Also, the staff was incredibly nice and welcoming-- can't go wrong with that! Can't wait to come back! read more

This studio is disorganized and the staff at the desk are rude. I arrived 15 minutes early as instructed, but no one was there to check me in. Someone finally showed up 10 minutes later. She helped me wrap my hands for class, which is a very time consuming process, so i ended up missing the first 10 minutes of class. she made zero apologies for being late. after the class i let them know i was upset that they caused me to miss the beginning of class and requested a refund for the equipment ($10 to rent the gloves, $15 for the wraps) but they told me their first priority is helping members, and refused to do anything to make things right. I thought it was crazy that even though I paid to take this class, they thought i didn't deserve to partake in the first ten minutes because i'm not a member. The instructor was great and the class was very fun, but i won't be going back because they front desk was so rude. read more

Love BoxUnion and consider myself a loyal customer of 2 years. Things improved since James took over. The only thing is - it is pretty often that I find a puddle of sweat underneath my bag from the previous class. As the result the towel that they provide - is soaking wet as well. Super gross. Also, the ventilation could be better. At times, it is very funky in the reception and the locker area. Perhaps leave the door open when the patrons from the previous class leaving/checking out? read more

The reason for theses 3 stars.. Whenever I come here to Robertson location, the front desk just stares at you and don't even know your name(except for Isai). They expect you to say your name first since they don't know who you are even though you have been coming here for several months. And I'm talking about those workers since my day 1 here. It's also an inconvenience that the studio doesn't have towels in the shower rooms when you want to take a shower and you're all sweaty after a class. I always have to go to the front, look for a worker, and ask for it. I don't like asking them and bothering them either. So wouldn't it be easier if there are towels ready or put it in the shower rooms 10 mins before each class ends? read more

Great cardio workout! You really sweat. The staff is so helpful and friendly, you can't help but smile as they help you. The room is dark and there are a lot of bags in the studio. You're quite close to the person next to you. The combos are displayed on the wall and the coach is in the center on a stage. The music is loud but energetic. I would say this class is more for intermediate boxers. You may get lost in the combos if you don't know what each number is associated with. It's also hard for the coaches to help everyone when there are so many people and it's so dark. You're basically moving around on your own. Luckily I've boxed at other studios so I was able to keep up and follow. Take a foundations class elsewhere to learn the basics and then come here. You'll get your heart rate up and you'll sweat. read more

Took Cory's beginner class on Saturday and WOW!! I didn't think I'd feel the burn . He's super fun and engaging . Didn't feel I was being critiqued in my moves as we went along to the beat. The staff is super friendly and helpful! All the coaches have a great vibe and they're all full of energy, which is much needed when teaching a high intensity class. Shoutout to my favorite coach, Lo. Her classes always kick my butt, but leave me feeling so much better. Got to go to a class through Fit Girl Club event yesterday. I had gone to this studio previously and taken two other instructors, Justin and Rachel, but yesterday Joe Joe taught the class. He was by far the best and most challenging of the three. I didn't really sweat at all the time I took Rachel. In fact at the end when I got my parking ticket validated the desk girl thought I was barely checking in. I told her I had just finished working out. With Joe Joe on the other hand I was soaked and woke up sore the next day. read more

My sister and I did our 100 class couple days ago and still most of the front staff doesn't know our names. Ummmmm. Isai is still the MVP and greets you individually and not just the "group." Sophie is sweet and does her best when checking in. I wish the whole front desk could learn from these two or especially from the Sherman Oaks location from Matty or manager Nanyamka. If you keep saying random names when checking in and don't know their names it's not just ignorance, people can think you guys are racists. The last straw was the other day they charged us for a no show fee of $15 when we actually spoke with the manager and the front desk that same day. Got the refund after we had to call the next day, but are you serious? Let's try a little harder and get it together, people are paying over $200 a month coming here. read more

5 stars doesn't even begin to do Boxunion justice. I joined in November and immediate got a membership after my first class. After the pandemic I missed group fitness so much and Boxunion was the perfect fitness class to join. The class itself is so so fun and an amazing workout. A lot of times in classes, especially in LA, you can feel judged or self conscious in class and not get to fully focus on the workout itself or how you're feeling. Not here- the music is so fun, everyone is so welcoming, and everyone is pushing themselves to do their best. The coaches make a point to make sure everyone is safe and comfortable without missing a beat. Also the fact that the class is beat- based puts a really fun spin on the class and takes the pressure off boxing newbies The space is super clean and the staff is super nice. Also parking is a dream ( I am a panic- parker so having the parking lot is a life saver) If you want to really work on your boxing skills, the instructors will happily do mitts and technique work before or after class. I do PT sessions - shoutout to Coach Cory- and the sessions are super helpful and also well priced. The other studios are also great, and I can confidently say each instructor kills it. read more

BoxUnion has my heart, man. A 45-min guided boxing session led by only the best instructors that are funny, loving, and most importantly care about you. By "care about you", I mean they grill you and push you to your limits because they want to see you grow! I came into this session completely motivated. I haven't been in a while, I was happy to be back and I wanted to make every second count. I was so focused, that I was surprised when our instructor Justin said we were cooling down!! I could have sworn it felt like 10min long! Always a good workout though! I also really appreciate the showers (fully equipped with peppermint shampoo, cilantro conditioner, and eucalyptus body wash). I brought my own towel, but I was also pleasantly surprised by the news that they offered towels! They also have hair dryers, lotion, hair spray, spray deodorant! They really thought of everything. I love coming to his location because of Coach Mo, Coach Cory, and Coach Lo... however, the front desk is another story. I've been coming here for over 6 months and took over 100 classes... However, the front desk doesn't know my name (except for Isai) and always gets me confused with my sisters' names. They even forgot to check me in and charged me as No Show when in fact I attended the class. Luckily, I was refunded after I called... but left a sour taste in my mouth from that experience. I also attend the studio at Sherman Oaks, and it's totally different there. They should learn from them, so they could be better together. read more

Box Union is my favorite Boxing/HIIT class in LA. Before this I went to Rumble but after trying out Box Union I don't think I'll be going back to Rumble. The classes here are a lot easier to follow along because the instructors take the time out before each class that you know all the punches. They make the workouts easier to follow along but still very tiring. The instructors and all the workers at Box Union are way more personal. They're always chatting us up before and after class. It makes me really feel like I'm apart of a community here. I didn't feel intimidated here my first time compared to Rumble where half my class couldn't follow along or even hear our instructor. Overall the vibes here are immaculate 10/10 would recommend this to all my friends. read more

I love this studio! I'm a loyal BU fan and I love Mo's class and Max's class... and Lo's class! They're all amazing. I lost over 60+ lbs going here regularly and they completely changed my life. The staff are SO nice and friendly. The music during the class is soooo good, it will make you wanna dance during the class like i have to remind myself oh yeah, I need to keep boxing because I just love the music so much... it's like being inside the most fun club you've ever been to... while also burning an insane amount of calories! Trust me - don't be daunted even if you've never taken a boxing class before! You NEED to try a class at BoxUnion. First of all, don't be late because if you're a few minutes late, you might lose your spot to someone on the waiting list (uh huh, there are people camping there). For first timers, the staff there will provide you with wraps and gloves. Also, they will begin by teaching you the basics 1-6 which you'll need for the class. The classes always start with a warm up. The instructors usually incorporate exercises such as jumping jacks, pushups etc with shadow boxing where they'll call out the 1-6 moves. If you're worried about not being able to remember what 3 is, don't fret because the instructors will show the moves. You'll learn a combination by the end of the class. However, the instructors will break it down into parts. Oh, not forgetting the upbeat music you'll be moving to! Classes will end with a quick cool down stretch. Parking is very easy - they've an underground parking garage. They validate up to 2 hours for free! Once you're on Robertson Blvd, look up and you'll see a blue sign saying "Robertson Plaza Parking". I absolutely love BoxUnion! It's such a great work out once you get the hang of it. I didn't receive any instruction during my first class like the website offers but after 2 classes, I got the hang of it from other instructors' explanations. It really depends who your instructor is. Some are better than others. Although, one instructor I didn't have a particularly challenging/helpful workout with did improve substantially the next week. I always look forward to the workouts now because it's challenging and motivating. The music is great! Nothing like boxing the ye's greatest hits. What really keeps me coming back is that they provide parking which is so rare in LA, honestly. Parking is a must for me! read more

This is the real deal. After receiving a free class from an employee health fair at work, I booked a class with zero enthusiasm and felt nervousness of the unexpected. Once I completed my first class with Justin, the light in me turned on and instantaneously I felt a challenge. I'm one that craves high intensity/core/cardio, loves to be pushed passed my limit, and needs to be dripping in sweat to mentally know I've completed a work-out. If this as well describes you, you've found your match! The class caters to beginners so please don't feel anxious. If my words aren't reassuring enough, the classes are all held in less to moderate lighting so no one can really see you. Punch however your heart desires! Unlike other boxing gyms, I especially loved their unique outlook of moving to the beat of the music. Disclaimer: it's not a full out boxing gym, the work out is incorporated with other core exercises. It's a complete package and I've successfully completed my second class with Justin! I really like this studio. It's a good combo of boxing and cardio. This for the person that wants a work out but also wants to box and get aggression out. If you've never boxed it's a good idea to get to know your form and punches before you go in. There is no hand holding for super beginners. Also, the rooms are pretty dark so if you use wraps make sure you give yourself time before because the class starts right away. No downtime in the beginning.
