This place was incredibly pretentious. Much more concerned with being"dope" than a great boxing workout. The place was so dark that I couldn't see the instructor half the time and she kept turning off the lights in a lame attempt at a light show. Music was so loud and sound so bad that I couldn't hear her. I thought it might just be me but when I looked at the people around me, almost no one was doing the same routine which means they couldn't tell what she was doing either. She did zoom by me twice but never stopped to see if I was doing it right (I know I wasn't) and never corrected anyone around me. If a gym has a great workout with kick-ass instructors, they don't need to make their bag room look like a seedy bar in the red light district of a third world country. But they DO validate parking! read more

I've been anxiously awaiting the opening of the BU Robertson location to get on the boxing train and after my first class this morning, I'm all aboard! At sign-in, they were super friendly and helpful setting me up with the necessary wraps (to purchase, because eww otherwise) and gloves (to rent), gave me a quick tour of this new sleek space complete with lockers and showers and then a quick boxing stance and punch tutorial. Then the class - the lights, music and Kyle's energy quickly got me in the zone... there was shadow boxing, there was hitting the bag with a combo to JT crying about Britney (allegedly), there was me struggling to hold plank position :/ But I got that great workout feeling and will happily be back for more! read more

This review is for the Robertson location. Went with a friend and it was her first time. We arrived 10 min before class and not 15 min before so they would not let her take the class because of a 5 min difference. I then proceeded to not take the class either and they could not comprehend that I wasn't trying to cancel and get credits or ask for any money back. I just did not want my friend to wait 45 min by herself while I took the class because they were so inflexible about not arriving 15 min before class started. The 2 females and 1 male that were working the check in desk were unprofessional and rude. Customer service is key and clearly not important at box union. TAKE TARA'S CLASS AND GET INSPIRED! I've taken 2 classes with Tara at the new studio so far and to say I'm obsessed is an understatement. I actually bought a package and signed up for all her 5 upcoming classes already! I've been boxing at different studios in Weho for a few years and I couldn't recommend BoxUnion more. First off, the facility is amazing. Helpful staff when you enter and big lockers in the lobby area. Parking is available in the downstairs garage and free with validation. The actual studio is gorgeous with the bags making a U shape around the podium, so you will feel really connected to the instructor. Tara is by far the best boxing instructor and overall workout class instructor I've had! She is ENGAGING and so ENERGETIC! She had the best music with sick lighting to go with the beat, combos that made sense and just led a great full body work out. She comes around during the class to keep you motivated and help you perfect the sport. After class, she was available to talk and answer any questions. I hope to take privates with her in the near future. If you are thinking about boxing, GO TO BOXUNION and do yourself a favor and take TARA'S CLASS! I am so SO grateful that my sister introduced me to Box Union. Now that the Robertson location is up and running, we can finally bring all of our local family and friends that we have been preaching to about BU. It takes a village, and Felicia and her team have done such an amazing job from start to finish -- nothing got left behind, and you feel that from the moment you walk into the Plaza. When you walk in, you are greeted by the incredibly friendly front staff who checks you in, helps you get wrapped up and EVEN UNCAP YOUR WATER BOTTLES for you (I mean, seriously??) we are SO spoiled ;) You then walk down that hallway (I feel like I am Rocky Balboa each time, I swear) to meet your instructor who is there waiting to get you hyped up for the next 45 minutes -- which brings me to my next point... The COACHES! I cannot put into words how much passion each one has. Starting with Kyle who is the founding, leader of the tribe who always gets you to feel ALL the feels with his impeccable playlists, to Tara who has a way with her inspiring words, to Rachel who incorporates that little bit of zen in her combo class... every single one is a key player and knows how to make you feel right at home. I have 20+ years experience in martial arts/boxing, but this is the first place to keep me challenged and committed to becoming better, especially after brutal injuries. That is all a testament to the coaches who push us to our limits each class and keep us motivated and wanting more. Just took my first class here tonight and loved it! It's a very nice, clean gym located on Robertson right across from Bibo Ergo Sum. They validate 75 minutes free in the parking lot next door. They provide cold water refills, lockers, towels. The energy in the studio was fun and upbeat. I got a killer workout in, and will definitely be back! read more

I have been anxiously waiting for BoxUnion to open their new Robertson location. To say I am in love is an understatement. The studio itself is beyond beautiful; spacious, clean and so fresh. The warm, kind, friendly, front desk staff is so helpful and they all have such positive attitudes. The energy from all instructors has been infectious; making every class so enjoyable and even more exciting to take the next one. So far I've been lucky enough to take Tara, Kyle, Justin and Rachel's classes. Each one brings something new and different- making all classes uniquely amazing. Update. After attending the Boxunion at Robertson for about a month, I need to state that they have been very lenient with me. The first impression was a negative one due to the misleading interaction I have had with Vanessa in regard to the three dollars to my account. However, after all, I need to give them a five plus if I could. Because, I mostly showed up late and they still allowed me to join the class so that I wouldn't lose the class. Also, there was a time where I couldn't make it to class at all and they were able to put the missed classes back into my inventory so that I wouldn't lose the class. I have to say, I am so thankful for the supportive team and their empathy and tolerance. Sometimes life just happens and things get out of order but it's good to know that your gym shows understanding and works with you together. I have been welcomed since day one nevertheless what we have been through. Thank you Box Union Team. read more

This place. I made the rounds and tried all the west side LA boxing studios. They all have good qualities but weren't what I was looking for. BoxUnion has a clean, modest look with easy to get to lockers and a nice front desk staff. The coaches are knowledgeable, encouraging and don't make it about them. The attitude is of positivity and togetherness. You'll learn to box, sweat out stress, and high five your partner. The focus is boxing with a bit of abs added in. First off, the new Robertson location is AMAZING! It's in a great location and probably one of the most incredible boxing studios I've been to. The minute you walk in, there is upbeat music playing to get you ready for class, smiling faces, helpful staff, big lockers to store your personal belongings, awesome BoxUnion apparel, and free validation if you park in the parking garage. So what more could you want? Everything about the studio and the atmosphere make the experience unlike any other. Second, the staff is always smiling, very friendly, and extremely helpful to make sure you have the best possible experience. It shows just how hard everyone works to make sure the people who walk through those doors are happy. Keep up the good work Robertson. You guys rock and what you do for us doesn't go unnoticed! And last but not least, YOU NEED TO GO TAKE TARA'S CLASS!!! She is hands down one of the BEST instructors I have ever taken class from. She pushes you and motivates you even when you think you aren't capable of pushing yourself anymore. I took my very first boxing class with her and thought I would be so overwhelmed with my lack of knowledge and skill, but she did an incredible job breaking down the movement and making sure I felt comfortable. Awesome awEsoMmmme workout with Alexis earlier!!!!! My friend took me and another friend to the classss our very first time ever.... it wass a great time working out with club music... dark area... very pumped up instructor... I can't believe I did the 45 minutes without getting bored! It was continuous nonstop upbeat workoutt which I liked! The facility is very clean. The staff is very welcoming... I didn't get their names but they gave us a rundown of what to expect. You get a locker, there's a showerr afteR your work out, they provide towels etc.... parking is convenient... I don't have any negative comments to say but just to come back another tIme and have a great time working out. Oh and they have packages if you want to do a multiple workout a month... I didn't get to think about it after as I was high on endorphins from the work out. But will definitely recommend and wilL definitely come backk! read more

I'm not a boxer and I hate working out. I have to make sure I'm distracted to even get through the workout. BoxUnion was AMAZING. The playlist was incredible, the lights and the atmosphere. This will not be my last class for sure. I really appreciated the instructor, Tara, for lowering the lights to allow for some meditation toward the end of the class. After having tried out the Santa Monica location previously, I was happy to see BU open up in West Hollywood. It's just pure fun and an awesome workout...a great changeup when you are a person normally into HIIT, hot yoga or regular gym workouts. Sometimes you just want to hit the bag and they get you in and out of the experience in 45 minutes. I also like that they offer a 60 minute class but would love to see it offered more frequently. This is not a tough workout at the end of the day, but the moves you focus on are amazing for core building. I've been breaking a good sweat every time. I do love studios that provide an excellent sound & lighting system that get you pumped up during the class. BU's setup is really awesome and it helps to keep you zoned in on your own bag and your own workout. Another plus is the facility is super clean and new. The bathrooms have showers and plenty of space in case you are getting your workout in on the go. Every experience there is so smooth with towels provided and plenty of space to store your belongings safely. I also recommend coming to this class with friends...it can be a great bonding experience! read more

BoxUnion is my favorite boxing studio in LA, and the new studio on Robertson is amazing! The class is great for beginners or pros who want to get an amazing sweat in while hitting the bag. The class emphasizes good technique during 45 mins of non-stop movement that will leave you feel amazing when you are done, while also leaving your arms feeling like they are ready to fall off from exhaustion. Caitlin is by far my favorite teacher (although they are all great). She has the most incredible amount of positive energy that always makes you reach past your limits and push yourself like you never thought was possible. Box Union Robertson is NEXT LEVEL! Some highlights include: The cleanliness of the studio, the epic sound system, cool lighting & layout of the podium which allows visibility from all bags. Coach wise, Tara is incredible! She exudes positive energy, while leading exercises that really are more geared toward the woman's body, & her music is amazing! Not to mention, her body is goals! Kyle is also pretty great too! He sends a positive message throughout class while teaching really advanced punching combinations. Only call out would be for Box Union to sell some cooler branded merchandise...I think both parties would benefit from this.
