But even so, I feel the need to shout out just how good our lunch was the other day - my girlfriend's breakfast sandwich looked really good, and my hoagie was excellent. I've been a Boyers fan for years. Good food. Reliable. However, last time I had a cheesesteak it was burned. This evening I was driving by and decided to go in and place an order. Waited 10 to 15 minutes and was not even acknowledged being there yet alone asked if I was picking up or ordering. They were sure answering the phone and taking orders. I went to the car to get my phone as I could go in and get my call answered. No cell service in the street or in the establishment. Drove a few blocks to get cell service and called to let them know my issue and was given excuses. There is no excuse. You provided poor service. She turned it to me and said I should have spoken up. There were 4 other customers waiting and not greeted as well. I know everyone is having staffing issues but to not even acknowledge the customer is waiting......a simple, I'll get to you as soon as I can goes a long way. read more

I made a yelp account solely to review this place. I have never had a cheesesteak this good. I got it with tomatoes, onions, pickles, and lettuce and it broke my heart when I had to eat the last bite knowing I had no more. Boyar's Market is the first restaurant in my lifetime to drive me to Yelp. I ordered chicken tenders with honey mustard sauce. I received an order of chicken tenders engulfed in honey mustard. It was chicken finger soup in a honey mustard broth. It was offensive. I figured someone made a mistake so I called. Once I explained my concern, the manager answered me as if she's dealt with this complaint 1,000 times. She said, "that's just how we do it, next time ask for light honey mustard". Listen, I'll ask for dressing on the side for a salad, but I've been all over the US and I've never had to order dipping sauce on the side for an order of chicken tenders. It just comes on the side. Apparently the owner of Boyar's has the common sense god granted an animal cracker bc they assume chicken tender soup is what everybody wants. No one wants chicken finger soup. It's not even a thing. Chicken tenders come fried right? Fried food is crunchy right? Well, it isn't crunchy when it's been saturated with the dipping sauce of your choice. It's soggy and gross. I want everyone to imagine the individual that would even attempt to clean that kind of plate. Who drinks honey mustard? Who drinks BBQ sauce? Who drinks any kind of dipping sauce? It's absurd, and it doesn't make any sense logistically. It was literally 6 or 7 times the normal amount of honey mustard. Don't get the chicken tenders! When they answer the phone they instantly put you on hold before you could get a word in edgewise Then after being on hold for 13 minutes and 43 seconds they decide there going to hang up on you. When you call back the 2nd time, it is ring around the rosie all over again. The food is fair, but expensive. Last year this would have been a totally different review with 3 and something 4 stars. I realise that summer help is hard to find however, this telephone staff should be fired or at the very least retrained. we went to Boyars about 3 years ago on a trip and it was amazing. good food and good portion sizes for the price. however today we got some 1lb chicken tender platters with honey mustard, and they were absolutely drenched in the stuff. the sauce filled all the way up to about 1/4 of the container. everything else is awesome but someone really needs to understand that less is more, or atleast to put the sauce in a container to the side. read more

Love this place. We have been coming for years. Everything on the takeout menu is great. I usually get the broiled shrimp with a couple sides. The buffalo chicken tenders are a new to me find that are delicious. Someone in the group always gets a pasta combo and loves it. Really excited that this was practically around the corner from our beach rental especially since we are in an unfamiliar and unique situation now w/Covid-19. The staff is super friendly and all of them are wearing their masks. We ordered dinner 3x and breakfast twice from their takeout kitchen located in the back. It's super easy to call in to place your order and then go pick it up. Their food is really good from their delish filet sandwich so tender to their pork and broccoli rabe. Now you need to remember that for the locals this place is an entire grocery store, (without many options) but their claim to fame is being a butcher. The meats that they have are always excellent. They will cut up anything for you to take home and grill out. Awesome meatballs, filets, filet tips and many others. Piccinis uses their meatballs and even says it on the menu because we hold Boyars in high regard in this city. They also have numerous prepared food items, pastas, vegetables, meats and others. I DO NOT recommend these. I honestly have tried almost all of them and to be honest it is rare to find good ones. They just sit out for a while and most people who live in Ocean City all year are much older and don't have the "taste" for good food anymore. The locals are blinded with their love for the place so they won't eat anywhere else. Best butcher around though for sure read more

We have returned from a week in a four room apartment with 10 people in Ocean City, New Jersey. The situation was only prevented from turning into a episode of Survivor where they slowly sacrifice teammates one by one to survive in the wild by Boyer's Market. Just a block away from the Oceanic homesyead, this tiny yet convenient and well stocked grocery and takeout market had everything we needed to feed the "competitors" for the week. One day I stopped in four different times through the course of the day. Oh so easy and it always had everything I needed- soft pretzels, chicken nuggets, deli meats for the nonvegetarians, some vegan choices for the lone teenage vegan, bread, strawberries.... Prices are higher than I like to pay but to keep the food going (which frankly with 8 starving kids is a big part of my "vacation") I gladly paid them. Staff is friendly too... read more

September 11 we ordered a large regular hoagie tray for my mothers memorial. 40 years ago Boyers had the greatest sandwiches made on Danny's rules. Their lunch meat was prime and their meats and veggies were out of this world. I was more than embarrassed at the sandwich tray when I opened it up to present it on a large table. The lunchmeat was a quarter of an inch in thickness very little trimmings of lettuce and a tomato could barely be seen. The rules were as hard as a rock. No one ate them. I proceeded to call Sunday afternoon and expressed my problem and love to ask what happened? She proceeded to tell me that there were complaints on the rules that day and she was sorry but in no way were they short cut it on the lunchmeat. She said they tried to make the sandwiches with more lunchmeat the prior year and they wouldn't fit on the trees... Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Please be advise not to buy the sandwiches for company or holidays and you will be greatly disappointed. I thought that the manager of Sam Party trays was indignant and very difficult. After admitting the rules were not good she refused any kind of apology or even to say we could get some kind of discount at some point. Very bad business as we have had a business in Ocean City for 48 years I would never treat a customer that way. Please be advised... Go to Primos where we went the week prior and the lunchmeat was 3 inches thick with a homemade hot warm raw and the price was almost cut in half. Boyar's is one of our go-to's for takeout in town. I've never had a bad thing from them. We really love their grilled marinated chicken cutlet platter. Chicken is always perfect and then they give you two sides with it, all for $10.99. You can't beat it! (Croutons are are homemade and delicious, they even sell them in the convenience store.) Pair the takeout with a Coke and a pickle out of the barrel and you've got yourself a great meal. Food items in the market are a little pricey, but that's expected considering the convenience. We had a large order for eight last night. Unfortunately, there are only three positives; one cheesesteak was made correctly with no onions, the kids hot dog appeared to be satisfactory, and the lasagna wasn't terrible. We ordered two cheesesteaks. They were burned, dried out, and the meat hard, and onions way over cooked. We ordered two chicken Parmesans. Normally with chicken parm, you get noodles under the chicken. Not here. You get a chicken breast with red sauce on top and a side, but noodles were not offered, just things like salad and fries. The chicken parm was not good and not eaten. I had the grilled chicken platter. The chicken was a huge breast split into two pieces and looked interesting (in a blackened kind of way). It was so over cooked and burnt that my knife had a difficult time cutting at all. I took about three small bites and not one more (and, in fact, what I did eat came up about 15 minutes later). The sides with the chicken were very generous. I wish my chicken had not been burned. How do you serve burnt food to customers? The lasagna wasn't bad and all of it eaten. The rabe...we ordered the pork broccoli rabe. I know we did as I placed the order. What we got (and charged for correctly) was the broccoli rabe with NO pork! Further, according to the person that picked up the food, the cook was swearing up a storm over the chicken and the fact he had to work on his birthday. Save yourself $79.17 and get your cheesesteaks from Randazzo's and your pizza from Mario's. read more

Since I now live in OC, Boyars is very convenient. I don't have to drive to the Acme and can go to my favorite market and take out. The roast pork sandwich is to die for and they also do a nice lasagne too with a salad. They package things up for you as well. The deli counter, the fresh veggies and produce and fresh meats too plus the three kinds of chickend tenders and shrimp salad is always a good go to. I also had salads, (not sure how they do the croutons but they are crazy good), a cheesesteak and when I didn't feel like driving, I ordered delivery of a Ribeye -medium and sides. the last few times I went was not as good as I have had before. The salads are big and yet the last time I got one, there was far less chicken. The croutons though are the best. The subs used to be the best. All good subs are made with shredded lettuce and not put under the meat. Meat then cheese, lettuce, tomato onion oil vinegar and oregano. The oil and vinegar have to go on top of the lettuce. The rolls are good and at one time I could have their hoagies for lunch and dinner. Now I don't want to go to WAWA so I will try again later and hope the top hoagie guys will be back from Florida soon. read more

Went for Take-Out today. Ordered 4 Hoagies straight off the menu - nothing special. Waited 30 mins. Other people's orders came out before mine - I was first one there. One of two things happened: either they misplaced my order, or the locals got preferential treatment (the latter I think was the case).
