Now that initial shock of the cost of my dress alterations has worn off I can confidently write my review. The alterations done by Boyka were high quality, and very time efficient (done within a week!), I am very happy with both of those aspects of her business. What I wasn't happy with was the cost, nor the response when my fiance called inquiring about why the price was so high. I paid $140 to have around 3-4 inches hemmed off, the shoulders taken in a few inches, and the back let out where it bunched up. The back being let out was done as I tried on the dress and she literally hacked the last layer of the dress apart and it was done. My dress was three layers which I do understand required additional work, but I was completely blindsided when it was $140 (cash only!). The dress was neither steamed or pressed so all that money and I still had work to do when I got home. I had a similar dress altered (hemmed and shoulders) somewhere else and it cost $40-50ish; Boyka is much closer to my house which is why I didn't return there. When my fiance called he was met with hostility, but did get a small apology for it being wrinkled. The three stars is because the work was good, and in all fairness, I didn't ask for a quote before I dropped off my dress. I assumed it would be right around the same cost as the place I previously went to...but we all know what assuming does. Just overall way too overpriced, and not great customer service, so I will not be returning. read more

I found Boyka through an online search. I read reviews and since the reviews said nice things, I trusted her to help me fix a few shirts I have to make them a length I like so they fit better. I couldn't be happier with how they turned out! I loved the shirts when I got them but the length of them all was a little off for me so I wanted them to be made shorter. She literally made them perfect and I can't wait to wear them now. I've 100% found my new seamstress for whatever I need. I would recommend her to everyone and anyone I can. Boyka is the best! I have been using Boyka as my go-to person whenever I need alterations for over 20 years. I usually need some tweaking with my clothes so they fit better. Her work is meticulous. I always love the way my clothes look on me after she works on them. I am an artist with some sewing experience, so I do go to her with some creative ideas with some of my clothing pieces. She is always willing to work with me and they come out great! Boyka is also very honest. I depend on her opinion when I am not sure that it is worth making alterations to a piece I am unsure about. There are many positive reviews for Boyka, but the negative review under the "not recommended reviews" where Boyka left the bride in tears is the same Boyka that we met. My daughter and I both had dresses to be altered. Boyka had quadruple booked our appointment time and people were constantly coming in and out. We were rushed from the first second and never were given the chance to say three sentences in a row about what we were thinking. For example, we brought with us a bra to be fitted along with my daughter's strapless dress. Boyka kept trying to push us into having her sew in soft little cups in the front of the dress. We know from experience that a voluptuous woman with a tiny waist needs the support of a bra (my daughter prefers underwire) when wearing a strapless dress. When we stuck to what we knew we wanted, Boyka then went out the other customers 2 feet away from us (behind a drape) and started bad mouthing us. She said "Who do they think they are? I've been doing this for xx years ...". Yet, we remained nice and didn't comment on her belittling attitude towards her customers. After taking snide remarks and snarky rushed attitude for several more minutes, I decided to go elsewhere. I then e-mailed another tailor. What a difference. She only books one person for fittings at a time, she doesn't take walk-ins, she has a bright sunny attitude, she listened to everything we were thinking and made wonderful suggestions, and she did a beautiful job. I live in Florida and couldn't find a tailor in Florida to do the extreme alterations I needed on a formal dress for a wedding. I bought a dress that was too small for me, but fell in love with it. Dont go here!! My wife brought her wedding dress here to get altered. Bad idea! She is a mean, stuck up old lady who doesn t care about her customers and treats them with extreme disrespect. She lied to us repeatedly on the phone saying the dress would be ready on a specific date. We stopped in to see how it was going... she didnt even get started on it yet. The wedding was less than 2 weeks away! And no dress!! And she had our dress for 2 months doing nothing with it but lying to us on the phone saying it was being worked on, ect. In the end, she did a butcher last minute job that we had to end up taking to a neighbors house the night before the wedding just to get the dress wearable. My wife was in tears over how she was treated and how bad her dress looked from Boyka s cheap alteration job. She didnt even do what we asked. Wedding preparation is stressful enough without dealing with people like this. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT HER, DONT GIVE HER A DIME! She is not an American (cant you tell by the name), and does cheap overseas-quality work and will treat you like a moneysign, not a person with feelings. Boyka is the best!I bought my Pronovias wedding dress from the flag store in NYC in February. I saw the dress in a picture and it was gorgeous, but when I tried it on it did not fit anything like the picture and I was told that the alterations would be extensive because the entire dress was 5 layers of silk and hand embroidered lace. Boyka is the only person I would trust to touch my super expensive, strapless mermaid cut, all lace wedding gown. I ended up loosing 25 lbs. right before my wedding, the dress was more than 2 sizes too big and it was cut for a woman 6 ft. tall. Because it was couture, I had signed a no returns agreement! But Boyka is an expert and she saved the day. She literally took apart every single seam in my dress and re-sewed it removing the extra 5 inches in the body I needed to be able to be comfortable on my wedding day. She added boning to hold the dress up, also raised the hem to match my shoe height, created a bustle in back making my dress easy to adjust and beautiful. The work was perfection. The wedding dress didn't look like it had been altered. She remade the dress so it was the right size, my gown was tailored to fit my body perfectly and I received so many compliments!. Wow! Was in love with my wedding dress the day I saw it, but then when I took it to Boyka's Alterations I loved it even more! The prices at Boyka's are reasonable, she priced very competitively. I'm not sure who Boyka is but I dealt with a Mrs. Lee who was awful! I picked up my dress and it basically looked the same as when I dropped it off. When I returned she was very rude and nearly yelling that she told me it wasn't going to work. I tried to explain that I wouldn't have left the dress if the job couldn't be done correctly. I left very angry and will not go back. I'm searching for another / better seamstress in Marlton area to fix the dress as it should be fixed. I will have to pay twice. New to the area, I tried this place out because it was close and convenient to our new house. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. I should have known better when I walked in and the place was run down, smelled like smoke and the owner raved about alterations done in the 80s to some former pageant queen. I took in a bridesmaid dress to have it taken in a bit. It was ready in three days (no rush order requested or needed) and the cost of the alterations was insane ($150). I could have bought a new dress in a smaller size for that price! The alterations were fine (nothing to write home about) and luckily it didn't smell like smoke but definitely not worth the price. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible attitude and Sloppy Business Dealings. I took my dress in because the dress was too long for me and the dress had some loose buttons I wanted her to adjust. From the beginning I asked her to give me a price for these alterations, and she told me she didn't know. Which was pretty annoying being that I should have been given at least a range for the pricing of these alterations even if she didn't have an exact price. She could have for instance said the cost would be between $300-$500, but she never did. Another thing I found strange is that when I requested her to list all the alterations to be made on the receipt (she had no details listed) she gave me an attitude and said "What do you need me to do that for when you know what I am going to do to the dress?" For each fitting I went in for, I asked her HOW MUCH ARE THE ALTERATIONS? Each time she responded by saying she didn't know. So then I go in for a final fitting and it turns out she did something called a bustle, which I had no idea of what that was until I got there. This is done to a dress for brides who are wearing the dress for their ceremony and reception. For the reception the dress is bustled up so you are not tripping every where. Turns out I am not even wearing the dress for my reception and I didn't ask her to do this. She also didn't even bother to ask was I wearing the dress for the entire event. So essentially she did work I did not ask for and gave me a final price of $400, which I was totally unprepared for. It would be one thing if she even gave me a range of how much everything would be but SHE DIDN'T. She waited until the day of to tell me the cost. How did she know that I even had $400 to spend? That's why this is worked out from the beginning. I also let her know how I felt about this when she revealed this price. When I went in to go pay for the dress, I expressed this concern again and I told her that I appreciated her work, but it wasn't fair to spring that price on me and she also did added work I did not ask for. So I asked could I pay $300. And she said she would do $350, which I was okay with trying to meet her half way because she did do a good job on the dress. She then proceeded to make a scene in front of the other customers in the store, complaining about how she worked on the dress for 3 days, and can you believe this and that. She also made sure to loudly do this as I walked out of the store so that I could hear it. What a nasty attitude and horrible customer service! She made me feel like I am trying to rip her off or something when really I should be the one that is angry being that I wasn't prepared for the pricing. She even told me oh if you were to go to another store they would charge you $400 just to hem the dress, which suggests she had to have some sort of idea of how much she planned on charging me. Maybe her other customers got it like that and can just pay whatever price she throws out without preparation, but everyone isn't so fortunate. Her professionalism is really lacking. read more
