The stage is set up against the front window so passersby can see the excitement within, and the monitors are placed around the restaurant so all patrons can sing along. Naturally, it's exceptionally loud here, so hearing protection is recommended. When we were there, the vocalists ranged from trained singers to drunks hitting every wrong note. We heard hip-hop, country, rock, pop, and even metal, so you can step up and sing whatever you feel like. Adding your name is easy, and the hosts flow between acts so quickly that it won't take long for you to get your time to shine. What surprised me most was how often the hosts sang. The two bartenders Ernesto and Mahogany each have absolutely breathtaking voices (Ernesto in particular made my ladyfriends swoon), but they sang roughly every 4 songs despite a steady flow of various other voices that wanted a turn. To their credit, they also valiantly offered backup vocals for duets and seemed to know every song. I watched Ernesto taking orders and serving drinks with one hand while belting into the mic with the other. Definitely an impressive skill set, but they might consider stepping their participation back a bit. There's an electronic drum kit onstage, and later in the evening a guy named Sosa sat down at it and began accompanying most of the songs with flawless beats. I could watch him all night. There aren't many seats - there were about 5 tables lining the walls, which offers plenty of space for dancing, and lots of folks jumped up to dance. It was a very supportive atmosphere . So supportive, in fact, that an apparent regular named Jake came over to hit on my partner. We had fun and each got to sing what we wanted, but agreed that the place could be furnished and decorated a little more fully, and that the bartenders were a little overbearing and intimidating when it came to singing.

What made the experience especially disappointing was that the bartender acknowledged that this customer is a regular and that she has caused similar situations in the past. The bartender ultimately sided with her and asked us to leave instead. Throughout the interaction, the bartender was condescending and spoke down to us about a situation we did not start. We came to have a good time and were treated unfairly for someone else's behavior. Unfortunately, the way this was handled left a very negative impression, and I can't recommend a place that treats customers this way.

Dark, sultry, back then filled with smokers looking Bohemian and arty, the music was cool, and I felt so hip drinking my Whiskey Sour. Angelo's provides a 21st Century model of what I described. It's perfect for a romantic tryst or a date that has prurience in mind. The music is eclectic, the drinks made well, and the crowd in the know. Angelo's is a treasure. The old bar remains with new bar stools, except for Angelo's bar stool at the south end of the bar. The lighting and colors are brighter and warmer, at least they were on my visit when the sun was still out, well it was cloudy but not night time. You know what I mean. The tables are new with and the bar has that "new bar smell" from the new wood and construction. I was also told the entire roof had to be torn off and replaced. A new keyboard is located on the south wall in the center instead of the southeast corner of the old piano. The drink list offers a handful of drafts, bottles, and wines, as well as a fairly healthy list of spirits. Prices seem in line and reasonable. Angelo's will be open 7 days a week, opening at 3:00 Saturday and Sunday and 4:00 the rest of the week. Music runs 4:00pm-8:00pm Sundays and 9:00pm-1:30am Thursday-Saturday. My visit today was brief, but I plan to return soon. Giving four stars for now until I check out the music scene and a typical Friday or Saturday night. I'm just happy Angelo's is open again.
