Went here to see Bella Cain. The band was supposed to start at 8:30. It didn't start until 9:30 PM. It's a large bar. The women's bathroom only has three stalls. There was usually a long line waiting for the bathroom. The cover charge was $15. Most area bars only charged $10 for cover. read more

As a resident of Germantown (and Jackson for 6 years between stints in Germantown), I've eaten the fish fry at Bubs Irish Pub more times than I can count. Frankly, I'm embarrassed that I've never given them a review before now. Haddock, in my opinion, is more elevated than the cod served elsewhere and extra pieces can be added for a reasonable price. The panko breading they use is such a nice contrast to the beer batter at so many other restaurants. The seasoned fries have rotated over the years between shoe string and waffle, but always come with a good amount and are nice and crispy. The dining area isn't massive, but there's rarely ever a wait, which is a huge plus on a Friday night. Whenever I see a post in the local foodie group I'm in on social media asking for the best fish fry in the area, Bubs is always the one I recommend. read more

We didn't come here for food or drinks, so take my review with a grain of salt. A friend messaged us and asked if we were interested in a line dancing class out this way. And the the answer was abso-tu-ta-looty! I didn't know what the heck I was doing but it was a good time. The crowd was friendly and the vibe was totally inclusive. We have already calculating our return. Also the lemon pepper wings and drinks were quite tasty. I will say the last drink I ordered was definitely made with a cheap version of the specific liquor I asked for. Came here for dinner and drinks before an event. Food is very average and it wasn't busy on a Friday night so we got sat right away. I had the Reuben quesadilla and the corned beef wasn't anything special, not super juicy or tender. Wings were average, on the smaller side and the sauces didn't appear to be homemade but just a standard off the shelf bbq. Service was good but they were absolutely understaffed so took a minute to get the check. I'd stick to drinks and simple snacks like fries, not a full meal here. It's an Irish pub (in the very name) that serves Guinness on tap ice cold into p-p-p-p-plastic cups. I shudder at the very thought. I know I don't look very Irish, but in the 1970s I accidentally found myself drinking with some IRA in Northern Ireland where we bonded over a common resentment of English imperialism and a post-colonial understanding of global politics. They taught me about safe handling of explosives, how to hide small arms, some sad Irish music, some sad Irish poetry, some sad Irish literature, and how to drink Guinness. It's this last part that made the deepest impression on me. I'm not advocating any of the violence, but I do think an Irish pub should serve Irish stout a little more authentically. Not to mention the waste of plastic. The waste of plastic might be a political statement, this is an establishment where red caps are common and nobody wears a mask, not even those with congestion and coughs. I haven't been to Bubs for a Friday Fish fry in a couple years. It used to be pretty good and it was always packed. Not tonight, there was 2 other tables eating and the bar maybe had 5 people. I sat at the bar and ordered a draft beer, it came warm in a plastic cup. I can see if you were packed and ran out of glass glasses but tonight was not the case. Service was soso, too busy chatting amongst themselves to care about the customer. The fish fry was subpar at the best. The fish was blah and when you put in the menu Perch, make it lake perch not ocean perch. Cod was okay, no seasoning as well as the potato pancakes, very boring. Tartar sauce tasted just like it was premade and the coleslaw was warm and looked like it sat for a long time, tasteless. Menu said rye bread which I did not get, I asked the bartender and she brought me back a half of slice. I understand why they have no business anymore. I think they need to decide if they are a restaurant or just a bar. Kind of sad since there are hardly any restaurants to eat at in Germantown. read more

Heard about this place for a while now and had to check it out. Stopped in for a quick drink without any expectations. The bar was pretty full and there were tables throughout. As I walked around I noticed The building just went on and on. Towards the back was a stage area, so I guess they have live music. And, beyond that was a separate banquet area which was also pretty full. My companions and I ordered sex on the beach drink which was pretty good . The bartender asked if we wanted it made with rum or vodka. Didn't know there were choices and I usually have rum, so we went with that. It was a good size in a plastic cup. Priced a little high I thought for a neighborhood bar. But, we're in a pandemic so I figure businesses are raising their prices. read more

I went here for a wedding I attended in October for family. In hindsight I should've stayed at home because no one was following COVID precautions. Not even the bar tenders or servers were wearing masks let alone the wedding guests and bar patrons. I was surprised they were able to host two weddings and have the bar open to the public with capacity restrictions. I chose not to eat the buffet because I wasn't comfortable. I did order an old fashioned and it tasted off like they used vodka instead of the whiskey. On the plus side I guess the drinks were cheap. Have been here a handful of times, but only recently stopped in and actually ordered food with my boyfriend and his dad. We sat at the bar and the bartender that was serving us was really sweet and gave us great service even though we were there for the Brewers playoff game and it was so busy. Food was average bar food, nothing that is going to blow you away but not below the standards I would expect from a place like this. Seemed like there is a lot of "politics" going on with the staff there. One of the other bartenders or managers or whatever was complaining loudly about how lazy the owner was to one of the customers...I assume a regular...anyway...doesn't matter it was inappropriate and unprofessional. She kept racing back and forth in a chaotic way and finding something else that was wrong and then going off about it. I don't really want to go to a place and have to hear an employee complain that she is working so hard and the owner does nothing and she's the only one who cares about this place.... blah, blah, blah. We all run into work issues and most of us normally would just go to your boss and tell them versus complain to those around you, right? On a brighter note..this is a really decently sized place. Dining area, large bar, and a back room for living music or hosting events. I feel with a little elbow grease and a positive attitude from the staff this place could really be a great Irish pub. There are TONS of TVs so if you're looking for a place to watch the game and just have a drink you'd be really comfortable here. Buckets of 5 beers were only $15 while the Brewers were playing, unsure of if this is for football season as well, but it was a good deal. read more

I've been coming to this pub since I was a kid for the fish frys and decided to come in Sunday night after a family reunion. immedatley noticed the bartender was drunk and second statement to me was 'you look like you get an F in sex'. I'm a 23 female. super inappropriate but I ignored and continued to order a drink. spent most of the night playing darts and pool super fun. Finally, I get comfortable enough to come to the bar. All fine and dandy until I close out my tab. All i asked for was an itemized receipt. Bar Tender snaps at me. It wasn't that big of a deal. I was just confused about the pricing. Then a regular decides to open her fat mouth and continuously call me a B word. Tells me to pay my bill... I already did. It was so humiliating. and I ended up getting kicked out? With all the good places to eat in the area, skip this one. Definitely don't bother with the fish fry. Nothing on the plate was good. The fish and baked potato were cold, the potato was hard, and the bread stale. My father's meal was just as bad. He did not even take a second bite of the so called potato pancake (basically hash browns smashed together). My sister ordered the "Irish stuffing" with her fish, which she was told was mashed potatoes with apple chunks and other ingredients- she only found cold mashed potatoes on her plate. The food is just okay, nothing special, but not terrible. The service, however, leaves much to be desired. My husband and I were here for St Patrick's Day and the place was surprisingly understaffed. There was also no communication between the bouncers and the wait staff. We were waiting for a table while the bouncer directed a couple to a table that was being prepared for us and the wait staff chose not to correct it. Don't get me wrong, the staff was friendly, they were just clearly overwhelmed and didn't know what they were doing as additional "staff" were brought in to "help". The waitress forgot to put the order in for our appetizer so that came after our dinners. My husband got a tough pork loin meal with under seasoned potatoes and I got a mediocre brat boiled in Guinness. Overall, it was bad. If an Irish pub would fail this much on St Patrick's Day, it makes me question how they function on a normal day. read more

I love this place! I live out of state but make a point to stop here every time I'm back in town. Tons of beers on draft and I'd recommend getting a burger/sandwich for food, they're pretty tasty. I recently used there banquet hall for a party and was extremely impressed by the staff . They went above and beyond what was asked or promised to us! Our overall bill was exactly what we discussed . The hall was bigger then I expected so that was a plus . I actually rented it out for a family birthday and the kids had a blast on the open dance floor all day long . Man would I love to give this place a good review... frankly, if you are just a bar person, it is pretty nice. The place is kind of 4 rooms. You walk into a standard WI bar... almost looks like the bar in the front of a bowling alley... big bending bar, booths and some tables. To the right and up a step is a dining room with very little character. Behind the main bar is a HUGE room that looks kind of like big Texas dance hall. Great big stage and a few tiers you need to walk down to get to the main floor. I mean, this is a great setting for live music. There is also a bar in this room. To the right of this big room is a smaller room that is decked out like and old Irish pub. I have seen that room twice, but it was never open and operating... maybe just on weekends or for special events, but it is the nicest looking of all the rooms and really pulls off the whole "I feel like we are in Ireland" vibe pretty well. The bad is the food. I do not mean spoiled or inedible, just completely and utterly forgettable. With so few choices in the area for pub like food, we find ourselves here about once every year and always say we will not return for food. If you find you have to visit, I would stay away from the fried foods and stick to the grilled sandwiches which seem to be a little better. I would specifically avoid the fish fry. For the bar and music room I will just say they tend to specialize in hosting your typical cover bands that play popular theme music so if you like "New Country," or "80's Hits" or maybe "Disco Revival" type bands you could have a great time. The beer selections are fair. It seems they probably pour more bud/coors light than anything else. On the upside, the people who work here are always super nice and service at the bar and with food is always good. I just wish they would bring in a super cook and redo the whole kitchen operation because this place is a cool building in a great location. read more

I've been here a half a dozen times now, four times to eat, twice to sit at a the bar for a cocktail. For food, the place is awesome. From the burgers to chicken sandwiches to fish fry, I have yet to be disappointed by the food. The service, however, is not the greatest. The one night we where there where it was busy enough to require a hostess, she seemed so preoccupied with personal talk with her coworkers to pay attention to me and my boyfriend. Even as she was seating us, she was talking across the room to coworkers, trying to finish her conversation. Our waitress wasn't rude by any means, but she had a "forced niceness" about her. She got our food and drinks out for us promptly, but I asked her for a glass of water before the food came out. A different waitress brought us out food, so ours never came back for my water. It fact - she didn't come back during our entire meal. Both mine and my boyfriends plates were empty. When she finally came, she asked if there was anything else and we said no thanks - just a check and a glass of water. She managed the check but forgot the water a 3rd time. She seemed sincere when she apologized, but I think things like this would be prevented more if the staff - all of the staff - were more focused on their customers. Every time I've been there, bartenders, waitstaff, etc are so wrapped up with talking to coworkers or regulars/friends that they forget about the people that they're serving. It's rather annoying. Stopped by this place while visiting a friend in Germantown to grab a drink and meet up with some friends. To my surprise, this place was HUGE and had pretty much everything you'd ever want in a bar: pool tables, darts, skee ball (for free!), bags? (kind of like an electronic version of cornhole), live music, and a few good beers on tap at a very decent price. I can't vouch for the food as I did not order anything but I did notice a sign for Taco Tuesdays and Wing Wednesdays. The crowd was pretty chill and young (20-somethings). My buddy is moving out to Germantown so after a round of golf out there we decided to explore his new stomping grounds. Having been to Bub's previously for wings / to watch a game (a couple years ago) I decided to come back (Ignoring the reviews while I looked up directions). We walked in around 7 on a Wednesday and there were about 5 people there. Over the speakers blared slow depressing music being played off of one of the bartender's iPhone. The bartender seemed annoyed to have to serve us and acted like we were stupid for asking what the special was. Both bartenders seemed like they didn't want to be there and seemed bothered everytime you asked them something. The deal was $5 pitchers of Coors Light which is a pretty solid deal. I haven't drank Coors Light in awhile but it tasted gross. Not sure if that's because Coors Light is gross or if they don't clean their lines. Originally planning to eat there we decided to leave after our pitcher was gone (drinking it quickly). The bartender seemed annoyed with the fact we were only having one drink (and we were paying with cash). Now my first experience here was fun and they have a very large space for pool tables and bands. I've also heard their fish fry is solid. So I might eventually return, but can only hope for a better experience next time... read more

A casual fun place with a wonderful fish fry. Usually crowded when I'm there. The bartenders are attentive and friendly and pour great drinks. Everyone is very nice with plenty of regulars. Great music, DJs and bands. Personally love the location. Can't wait for the New Years Eve bash. read more
