Receptionist is nice . Dr Guy is very rude and unprofessional he talks down to you and walks out mid conversation. I Should have paid attention to past reviews when he was under just his name on 34th street. Dental Care was very upsetting, save yourself some time because they dont care!!! You're not explained correctly why certain treatment needs to be done from the dr and staff , you have to be a mind reader to understand and if you question them because you don't know dentist terms or why they want to do certain procedures your being considered hostile towards them and your dismissed as a patient. We have had a great experience at Braces4you. My daughter needed braces at a young age due to some major crowding and the doctor and staff made her feel some comfortable, even when she was nervous. They've gone above and beyond to make sure she has had a good experience. They communicate well and answer all of our questions. I don't recommend this office for the dentistry part. My daughter had a cleaning appointment booked for a couple months only to find out when we got there that the doctor couldn't do the exam because he was in an consult with another patient that was going to take an hour and we would have to come back for the exam part. Not only do I have to bring her back again but she is also going to miss school again. Poor scheduling and very unprofessional. Also, the techs normally don't have a problem getting the bands and the wires off when we are here for orthodontics but the tech working this day was having a hard time and causing my daughter pain. I just finished a call with this office asking for prices and information on an emergency self-pay appointment. I feel that the lady I spoke with could have been much friendlier. (She sounded not too old not too young either if that helps in any way) We recently moved to Bakersfield temporarily from another state and aren't familiar with the area. It's disheartening to encounter people who lack empathy and friendliness. While she answered all my questions, she seemed annoyed and rushed to hang up, which made me feel like I was wasting her time. I would prefer to look for options elsewhere. A few locals have told me, "Don't believe what they say about us Californians--that we speed in traffic and we are very rude." I thought it was a joke! Of course not EVERYONE IS LIKE THAT However, I've experienced these behaviors a lot, in business and school staff. I really hope it's not typical for businesses to treat people this way. read more

I went here for about five years. It was not good in any sense of the word, it was a huge waste of money. In those five years they never gave me bands and upped my wire maybe once. I only saw the actual doctor about three times. The wait time was pretty long with an appointment bc they had more customers than they could handle. The staff weren't very helpful. If you missed an appointment then the wait to make your new appointment was like a month. I ended up going to Thurman and they had taken this orthos braces and basically said they hadn't done anything for my teeth. Thurman had my braces off in about 10 months, I never had to wait longer than maybe five minutes to get seen, they had way more amenities (iPads, free WiFi, coffee, tea, water, disposable toothbrushes you could use, etc), and the staff was nicer. I've worked here for many years and I really loved to help people and make them feel confident again through braces. The one thing I could say though is how patients can be very difficult when it does come to treatment. There have been many times where a child was not doing what they were suppose to be doing and the parent would blame doctor. The staff is very understanding and they are constantly making sure the parent and child knows what they are supposed to do and yet there have been many parents upset because their child's treatment had been extended due to lack of cooperation. I've had multiple patients tell others that the patient never saw doctor yet dr was there every day beginning to end. Dr went into every room and consulted with every patient and at the end would ask them if they had any questions. Another thing was patients being upset because medical stopped covering their orthodontic treatment. There's always been a lot of confusion when it comes to peoples insurance and we have no control over what insurance you are covered by or how it works. Medical covers children's braces under certain circumstances. A lot of patients think medical covers everyone but realistically they cover 1 in 40 children that need braces. I find it very disappointing when I use to explain to parents over and over how medical works and how their child might not qualify but I will try everything to help them and they called the office screaming and yelling because they are upset and decided to take it out on the staff. I really urge people to understand how their insurance works before being upset at an office that has no control over what you pay for or what you think you have. There have been many patients who also get their braces on and never come back and when they do come back months or years later their teeth look horrible due to build up and they are upset. I understand why they would be upset but I always would question why would you leave metal on your teeth for so long and think it would be okay? Obviously no office or business is perfect but personally I still enjoyed helping patients with their treatment even those who screamed in my face. read more

I've been bringing my daughter here for 3 yrs and I'm happy to say she's almost done and will be getting her braces off soon , I have no complaints about the dr and the staff is ok some of them are a little rude.My biggest complaint is with the scheduling, you have to wait 8-10 wks for your following appointments and you wait about an hour and a half to be seen, I understand they want to get as many people as possible in but they should also be considerate of people's time,most of us have jobs and we have to take time off for these appointments so they shouldn't make us wait hours for an appointment that literally takes about 15 min. I would not recommend this place at all to anyone. read more

I came to Dr. Guy W. Mendivil after having a terrible experience with Western Dental. I had to start my orthodontic treatment all over. They offer clear brackets, which was perfect for me since I was a college student and didn't want a mouth full of metal. I paid out of pocket with an affordable payment plan. Did I mention I was in college?! Yes, it was THAT affordable. Friendliest staff and wait time for appointments are usually between 5-10 minutes. I needed to get a wisdom tooth removed. The office has a doctor who does extractions as well! Best experience of my life. The doctor stayed by my side while the numbing shot kicked in. My wisdom tooth was very impacted and curved and yet, the doctor was able to get it out without any pain or discomfort. I highly recommend this office for any orthodontic or general dental needs! read more

I was a patient with this doctor for over a year and more times than not I had to wait anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour to be seen! The staff is more than capabable, but the orthodontist is from San Diego and is only here on Mondays and Tuesdays. As a result, they jam in all the Ortho patients in on two days and are regulary behind schedule. On one occasion, I had a 9:30 appointment and was so upset that I had to wait an hour to be seen. How can you already be one hour behind schedule two hours into the workday? Needless to say, I was tired of missing work to sit in this office. Had an appointment for 4 o'clock, because that's the earliest I could get off work to bring my daughter to her pre-school enrollment appointment. Took 45 minutes to get us back, only to tell us that they were going to refer her to a pediatric dental office. It became clear, midway through the conversation with the nurse, that they were only interested in getting out by five. I mean, before my daughter even sat in the chair, the nurse was telling me that if she's not cooperative, they might have to send her to a pediatric dental office. The nurse had no cause to believe that she was going to be uncooperative. She gave several excuses why they couldn't do anything today. I told her that we were in a bit of a time crunch, trying to make the deadline to get these appointments done before school started, and I asked if there was anyway that they could at least do x-rays today, so the pediatric office didn't have to do it and so that I didn't have to take multiple days off work and go to multiple appointments. She fed me a line about how the pediatric office "usually gets everything done in one day," which I find very hard to believe. The dentist came in - Dr. Ming?- quickly looked in my daughter's mouth, and walked away, saying nothing. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. This place is a joke. The office is ran down, the staff are ghetto and rude. They don't give courtesy appointment reminder calls, emails or text. Then want to charge you $20 fee for not showing up, um ya the appointments are a month out we are human, accidents happen. Another thing. My child's insurance only covered for two years apparently (they just told me this at my last appointment, catching me by surprise) And informed me that the next visit for the remainder of her treatment was going to be almost $200 a month. They were supposed to fill in two of my child's teeth back in OCTOBER, but kept putting it off, well now I see why they put it off. They knew her treatment period was ending. I'm now transferring my child to another orthodontist that has 5 star reviews, I have no problem paying for services, especially somewhere where I know we will be treated kind and courteous. But if you're looking for a place that treats you like shit and doesn't care about their patients, then this is right up your alley! read more

From day one the staff has been amazing, everyone is incredibly friendly. It is a little distant from where I live but the drive is worth the visit. They work with you in scheduling and in making your payments. Staff is definitely more than capable and very gentle when working on your teeth. Especially Sergio, great guy every time I go I look forward to him helping me. Answers all my questions, makes me feel at home, he's the guy who I want to assist me every time I go.
