My daughter has been coming to this office since she was small. From regular cleanings as a toddler, to braces as a middle schooler, and now 15 years later, we are still a customer. We came in today for routine cleaning. Dr. Lee did the preliminary review and my child did need a couple of fillings done due to cavities. Just became a client of Dr. Lee nothing but praise for Dr. Lee his receptionist to everyone in the back office. I waited no longer than 10 minutes in the waiting room before getting called back. The sales woman was less than professional and, I feel, purposely misleading about my dental plan coverage to get me to pay for out of pocket options I didn't need or want; she left me with that only option and went as far as offering to run my credit. That all happened in the middle of me receiving care so I felt confused and obligated to believe her when she said my crown isn't covered under my insurance. I visited Dr. Michael Pedram for an oral surgery consultation and made it clear from the beginning that I have an extreme needle phobia. Instead of offering reassurance or discussing options, he responded with, "Well I don't want to deal with that." That comment left me feeling dismissed and unsupported. I honestly underestimated this place. I didn't walk in with very high expectations, but I was completely wrong. From the moment I walked in and was greeted with a hello and a smile, it was already a great start. The check-in process was a breeze, especially if you complete it online beforehand. I only waited about 10-15 minutes in the lobby before a lovely staff member brought me back for X-rays. The best part of my visit was meeting Jessica. She explained everything so clearly and made me feel comfortable the entire time, just like Dr. Lee. They both created such a calm environment, especially when they noticed I was holding on to the chair handles for dear life! They could clearly see my anxiety, but instead of rushing, they took the time to walk me through everything. I was told that a simple cleaning and a few cavities could be taken care of the same day. That honestly shocked me because at my previous dental office I always had to come back for multiple appointments. Even though I was nervous, Dr. Lee talked me through everything and really helped calm my nerves. Thank you to all the staff, but especially Jessica. So, I am passing through Bakersfield and am in a hotel overnight. I am brushing my teeth, and my front upper crown comes off. Yes, a front upper which shows every time I open my mouth. Early the next morning I Google "dental offices that take emergency walk-ins", and this was one of several sites that popped up. After reading some reviews, I pick Stockdale Smiles Dentistry and call them not very optimistic that I can get in. I find out later that Serina answered the phone and was so very nice. I told her my problem, she even asked for insurance information and told me to come over, and she would fit me in the schedule and to be careful driving because it was really foggy! I get there, Serina greets me, and I get started on the electronic paperwork. Once finished, I wait only a short time and Miriam calls my name. She takes a few x-rays, answers any questions and sets me up to see the dentist. In comes Dr. Lee who was very friendly but professional and very thorough. He explained in great detail my issue and assured me they would do everything they could to get my crown back on until I could get home (Illinois) and see my primary care dentist. Miriam cemented my crown in place, gave great instructions, and I was out of there. I cannot fully explain how grateful I was. Everyone was so very nice, caring, helpful and professional. I've been coming here since I was 15 and man has it gone downhill. They started telling me that a deep cleaning was REQUIRED by my insurance. They are a scam and will not perform regular cleanings if a deep cleaning is "needed." I had a deep cleaning a year ago and they tried to say I needed one AGAIN. My doctor is great. The dental assistant was awesome. The receptionist was rude. I waited on the phone for 10 minutes. If i didn't hang up and call again and I would probably still be waiting. When I finally did get a hold of someone, she was rude on the phone. Even when I checked out, she was rude. I don't even want to go back to this place. Thank goodness I had open enrollment and I upgraded my insurance. I am unhappy with both offices, due to how this change and billing was handled, so I have left and do not recommend using this office. Then I called to speak to the person in charge of setting up lines of credit, I called 6 times in a little over a month and was NEVER afforded a return phone call. This was after the previous person in the credit department went to another company (Can't imagine why). Make sure you verify what they tell you is covered and what is not by your insurance. They had me pay $500 for "my portion" and i believed them. Then on my next visit they handed me a paper to show I would need to pay over $6,000 for some major services (that i did need) but my insurance would only cover $8.00...I called my insurance and verified that in fact services were covered and they tried to over charge me by over $2,232. and then i asked about the other service i paid for and was told by my insurance that thoses services were inclusive to another service they billed for and they should not have charged me. Both myself and the insurance company called Stockdale Smiles to discuss and we were both told I would receive a call back. Well that never happened. I reviewed the bill from the dentist vs what the insurance processed and it wasn't the same. I am fortunate that i have been in medical billing and claims processing for 38 years and recently retired as a fraud waste and abuse investigator and I know my stuff....This is under investigation. read more

The staff in the front office changed my cleaning appointment with the hygenist to an exam with the dentist only. They didn't try to help rectify their error. I wasn't happy with the dental care I was receiving. They were trying to over charge me, so I called my insurance and had them talk to the staff so I didn't have to over pay. I have been coming to this office for years with my kids and family. Today I was kicked out by an assistant who said only the assistant and the dr. Can be in the room. I have always been able unto be back with my child during appointments. I was disappointed since this has never been told before. Not really disappointed in office but this assistant was rude. When I got a job with a new company, I had to switch dentists as my previous dentist for over a decade did not accept my new insurance. I looked at so many dentists and reviews. I gave this place a shot and was pretty pleased with the quality of service. My family and I have been coming for over 3 years. Everyone is great. My 10 year old doesn't like getting work done, but the staff makes him feel so comfortable he chats nonstop with them. Not only did Kristen get me in the very next day for an emergency appointment - but it was on a Saturday before a weekend Holiday (Memorial Day). When I check in, I received a positive greeting and was in the chair getting x-rays in less than 10min. Dr Phi was promptly in the room reviewing my issues within moments after. All I'm gonna say is that.. I should have trusted my gut when debating on whether or not to go to a new dentist that recently opened. My fiancé went in for a check up and he needed 2 fillings. When doing one of them the Dr. somehow either missed his tooth or something but cut his cheek with the drill. He then gave him stitches with not type of numbing shot. While in tears from the pain the Dr. proceeds with the fillings since he was "already in there". They send my fiancé off with no type of antibiotic nor pain medication. He goes back about a week or week plus to get it looked at because he was still swollen and had some type of knot in his cheek. The same doctor said it was fine and proscribed him some pain medication. 3 weeks after he goes back AGAIN and now the main Dr. takes a look at him and said it was infected and then had to drain the pus. Then he proscribed him some antibiotics. We are now 4 weeks since his initial appointment and his swelling has finally gone down and the knot is almost gone. We're working on getting another dental office in place for ourselves. read more

This was my dentist for about 3 years and to be honest I'm not sure why I put up with them for so long. Probably because I dread the dentist and was kind of lazy to go looking for another. My first impression of the place is that the waiting area is small, and for all the waiting you do you'd think they would invest more in this area. There's a tiny child section but all it has is two small chairs and a TV that I've never seen on. Their exam rooms are up to date. They offer a TV where you can watch something while waiting for your procedure to begin or during the procedure. The dentist is pretty cool but he does try to upsell you unnecessary procedures. I hate that most dentist offices have become so focused on the business and profit aspect. I got a crown put in and had to return 4 times for them to get the proper fit done. It was a waste of my time and had to make sure each time they weren't charging me for THEIR mistake. I also had my lower wisdom teeth removed and although the procedure was quick they had me waiting for over 2 hours. So why do they suck? 1. They try and upsell unnecessary procedures. 2. Their waiting area is tiny. 3. They make you wait way too long. 4. They need to work on ensuring they do procedures correctly the first time! I finally learned my lesson and have been going else where. read more

Stockdale Smiles will attempt to overcharge you on insurance copayments. I went in to have a bridge replaced and they attempted to charge me $1200-$3900 in copayments depending on which material option I chose. My copayments for that procedure is $375-$825 dependant upon material options. My wife was there to get a crown and they attempted to charge her a $400 copayment when it should have been $125. I asked them to call my insurance and check the copayment amount as they were mistaken. They told me that there may not be anyone in the office today at my insurance company today and they would not call. My wife and I left without having the work completed. I called my insurance company and explained the situation with them. They agreed that I was correct on the copayment amounts and Stockdale Smiles is in their network and they have a current contract that they are to honor. The insurance representative contacted Stockdale Smile to resolve the issue and they told the representative that they use an alternate contract and they refused to honor the insurance copayments. We discovered what they do is try and have you sign their services contract which states you are agreeing to have the work done outside of your insurance coverage. I took the service contract to another network dental office to verify what the cost would be. They agreed the cost would be $375 for me and $125 for my wife. They were confused why Stockdale Smiles would charge so much and they also noted that some of the line items that were added were either unnecessary or inferior materials were being used for my application. They told me the flouride application that they were billing for is only used on infant teeth and the bridge material they were using would most likely break in a year. The receptionist where nice, efficient and sanitary. I seen Babita for my cleaning and I have to say that I get anxiety when having dental work. Babita put me at ease while performing my cleaning. This dental clinic has a very very bad in scheduling appointments! I had an appointment scheduled in August/September, I waited months for this appointment, and when it's about 1 week until my appointment they called and said they have to cancel my appointment because the doctor has an emergency, yes, in 1 week and they could not help me get another appointment sooner or with their ither doctor! so whant they did, they re scheduled me which is this coming Thursday, Dec. 5, 2022. but I got another call from them around 5:30 pm and telling me they have to cancel my appointment again because if another emergency! i don't understand, why donthey have to wait few days ir a day before my appointment then cancel it! so unacceptable! i need a new dental clinic to go!
