Our car had been having some problems like not starting after we had been out using it for a while. We took it to Autozone and the man helping us said our battery was fully charged and recommended going to Ray Bradford's to have our car checked out further. He explained how to get there and I remembered seeing it before. Every time I've driven by it, there's been tons of cars out front so I figured it must be good. We decided to follow his advice. We pulled in to Ray Bradford Automotive and the first thing we encountered was where do we park? There's a small parking lot out front, but it was full. Luckily, we were able to park across the street in the BYU lot because you don't need a permit after 4 pm and it happened to be 4:06. We walked in to the lobby (which has 2 comfy leather sofa recliners, a big screen tv, a water filter thing where you can get a drink, magazines, lots of interesting decor) and the car man, who we later found out was Ray, the owner for 30 years, helped us out. He was very nice and efficient. We left our car overnight because he said he'd be able to check it out more in the morning. This place is in such a convenient location, walkable from home, which is really handy when your car is in the shop. It's just a block south from BYU. The next day, today, we waited for a phone call and didn't hear anything. We decided to call in the afternoon and they said our car was ready. We went to pick it up and Ray told us what they had done (cleaned out an area where the fuel wasn't able to get through) and said he wasn't going to charge us anything. He pointed to our son and said, "You've got bills to pay right there." That was unexpected and so kind of him! Thanks Ray. He said if our car was still having any trouble to bring it back to him. We will definitely be back whenever we need to get our car fixed. We had a great experience here. They had our car ready to go in the parking lot for us. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a personal, honest experience at an auto shop. read more

I've been to auto shops all across the country and nothing compares to the service this shop provides. A POOR COLLEGE STUDENT GETS SWINDLED BY BRADFORD AUTO A Brief History of My Experience with Bradford Auto 1. He tried to charge me 66% more than I was originally quoted 2. They held my car for a whole month 3. The transmission still grinds in first gear even though they rebuilt it 4. My battery was stolen from their garage by an employee 5. They slapped a new clutch in without asking me if I wanted/needed it 6. They chipped my windshield and refused to compensate me or replace it 7. I was still charged over $2000 despite all of this I was driving home from a family reunion in July when my transmission on my 2007 Toyota Corolla went out. I knew that a transmission was not going to be cheap so I called all around Provo valley to get quotes. Most places said about $2000 not including labor so when Bradford Auto told me $1500, I figured that was the best I could find. I took my car into Bradford Auto and they said they would look at it and see if they should rebuild the transmission or just replace it. Bradford called me a couple days later after looking at the transmission and told me that they would rebuild it and that that would save me some money (lies). However they said they needed parts and that I would have to wait. I figured a week, maybe two at most and I said that was fine. It ended up being over a month. I called weekly to see what was happening and was told that they got sent the wrong parts. I waited all the way to the end of August and finally got a call that said the car was ready for pickup. I asked how much I would have to pay and was told $2500. Now if you just do some quick and easy math you can see that Bradford was asking $1000 more than he originally quoted me. That is of the original price he quoted me. I could understand $1700 or even $1800 with labor and parts but a full 66% more was ridiculous. I pointed out that he told me $1500 and he said that he wrote down $2000 as the quote and that with labor and parts it would bring it up to $2500. That was not what he told me originally. Then he said he would cut me some slack on labor and only charge me $2000, still more than I estimated based on the quote I was given. He then told me they replaced the clutch as well because it was on warranty and that I was getting a deal. However there was nothing wrong with the clutch, just the transmission. I did not request, nor was I given the opportunity to deny the clutch being replaced. Now, since we talked about the quote over phone and I did not get it written down originally I could not debate much on original pricing and what he now claimed I owed him. I at least talked him down to $2000 which was more than I expected but better than $2500. I resigned myself to this and headed in to pick up my car. When I arrived I was told that it would be $145 extra for tax, fine, and that they threw in a free battery too, which again I didn't ask for. He said they threw in the free battery because one of his employees walked out with mine.......what? Don't worry it gets better. I paid the man and left hoping it was over. It was not. The first gear was grinding randomly. I also noticed that my windshield had new chips in it. So I brought it back into Bradford and pointed these things out. I even showed the transmission guy how the car grinded in first. They said they would check out the noise and let me know. When I asked about the new cracks in the windshield Bradford told me I was just "assuming" it was them. He told me he would give me a new windshield at cost but that it was not their fault. Oh and they gave my car back and it still grinds in first gear randomly. They said stuff is just settling......what? So what did we learn? BRADFORD AUTO IS A SCAM. They quote you low, get you in there, work on things without asking, and then charge you way more than they quoted. This was a VERY UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. Took my 2011 Hyundai into Bradford and spent $1,700 to get up and running again and when I got it back I did not notice any difference in performance. And when I took it back to have them look at it again I kinda felt like I was an inconvenience to them. All they did was tell me that there was no problem and sent me on my way. And the car has never worked sense. I would recommend that you go somewhere else to get your car worked on. read more

I never really write reviews but I had an un-ordinarily bad experience and was treated really poorly. Their work probably is fine-I haven't had problems with the job they did, however they are overpriced. $60 for an oil change. Most likely taking advantage of students who don't question their service & just pay because of the location. I had a quote to replace my bumper and splash guard for under $800 but was charged $200 more than he originally quoted when I came to pick up my car. ( He never called to say it was going to be more, or when the car was ready). When I questioned him about it, he yelled at me, swore, then ripped up the receipt. Just do your research to make sure they're giving you a fair price and that you have their complete quote in writing. read more

They are conveniently located for BYU students, which is why I've used them twice for diagnostics on my 2004 Hyundai Elantra. I've needed two bigger repairs on my car over the years and everytime this shop has come in $300-$400 higher on labor. Their work seems fine and others referred me to them but I couldn't justify their price. They aren't very good at customer service. I was trying to understand what caused the problem on my car and he laughed at my idea saying it was ridiculous. I know others have had better experiences when them but I probably won't be coming back. read more

Bradford Auto replaced the fuel filter on my car, even though the fuel pump was the issue. When they did they put the wrong one on claiming it was "universal." This caused a fuel leak in my car which a certified safety inspector said made the car liable to blow up. When confronted about putting my life and my passengers life in danger they got defensive and started yelling at me. They tried to tell me I know nothing about cars (even though I have done extensive work on my car when I have had tools available), demonized their competitors and claimed the part must have been faulty. Maybe I am uptight about the life and death danger since I work in a industry were I would be fired for putting someone else's life at risk, but they blew it off inferring putting lives at stake was a minor issue. Poor service. Poor character. Do not use Bradford Auto. NOTE on google these people put of phony good reviews too! read more

We've taken an old Nissan Sentra to Bradford Auto 3 or 4 times over the last couple years. Each time they make some specific effort to keep the costs down. Also, the final bill has always been less than estimated. They're fast, thoughtful and professional. read more

I've never been so satisfied with service in my life. My car wasn't working properly and I took it in. They had it done by the end of the business day. The next day something else was wrong. The unique thing was my car actually had two different problems and both were taken care of. The night after the first repair I called the mechanic, and he said oh, bring it right back. It's unfortunate that some people feel they are so entitled, that they whine, gripe and complain. Regardless of your experience, I'd trust them with my cars life. read more

We have been bringing our old clunker here for years. One time we had to have it towed to Bradford because of a broken throttle cable, this was on saturday and they're closed but the tow guy dropped it off. By Monday, it was fixed that morning. Went in to get my a/c fixed. They charged me a good chunk of money to fix a part of it and when I called to tell them it still wasn't blowing cold air he said it was when it rolled out of the garage. He then asked the mechanic about it and the mechanic said he wasn't told to work on the compressor. So after lying about the a/c blowing cold when it left, he said my whole a/c system would need to be swapped out and it would cost me more money. That's the right way to scam a poor college student right there. The only good thing I can say is that whatever they did they had it done the same day I took it in. read more

He explains options and lets me decide what's best for my car and my budget. His employee, Sandy, can be kind of crusty and blunt. He can be a voice of doom, so if you think you might get bad news about your car, get it from Ray. It's really hard to find good, honest mechanics, but these guys are great.

I've been a frequent client of Ray's Bradford Auto since 2008. However, since last one year or more, I have been extremely disappointed. I agree this mechanic is very good-natured. But that's not what I want from a mechanic. I expect a mechanic to KNOW the car inside-out and be able to FIX it once and for all. I'm sorry to say but these people have VERY SCANT knowledge of cars besides changing the oil. I had a check engine light on my car and wanted to get it passed for safety and emissions. They told me that the problem was with one of the cylinders. I gave them to fix it. A few days later, they said they fixed it. But about a week later, the check engine light popped up again. I took the car to him once again, only to know that they couldn't fix it when they said they did. What's more, they charged me every time I went with the SAME problem. I had spent more than $700 on this problem already. Then, I went to a different mechanic and he fixed the problem in TWO days - the problem wasn't with one of the cylinders, as Ray claimed it was. Instead, the problem was with the fuel distributor. I'm disappointed! Also, they give one estimate and charged another (more than the estimate). So, make sure that you tell them to give you the FULL estimate before repairing the car. I surely wouldn't recommend this place -- it's a SHEER WASTE of money! read more

Very dishonest! claimed my break pads and rotors were too low and that i was in desperate need for them to change them. also said oil was at 2 quarts and said i needed oil change when i got it done not too long ago. I was about to let them do the oil change but said it would over a hundred dollars. I found a different place to change the oil and they said it was definitely not low that it was normal level, and bradford didn't top the oil off because they made me sign something to say I'm aware of how the oil level is so low and that i accept reliability. After the other place changed the oil i had them check the break pads and they said they were actually really good and had me come to the shop to show me. Can't believe they would try to get me to get work done that didn't need to be. read more

NEVER AGAIN. UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISHONEST: I went in about 3 months ago to have the switch on my window replaced. I brought in the part I bought from eBay and they were just going to switch it out. It took them half a day to do so and they said that it took 2 hours to get the door off and repair the wire. They charged me $180 for labor. I was fine with that and paid it happily. I went to my car and the arm rest was hanging off and there was grease smudges on my door. I went back in and said to them that this isn't how I brought it in and asked them to fix it. Ray, the Owner, came out and said that one of the latches broke and that he "would make it right" by getting a new one. In the mean time he smothered some mechanic glue on it and jammed it back in. He was going to order the part and give me a call. 2 months later, he calls and says the part came in. I went in and left my car with them. He calls me and I go to pick it up and he says the bill is $60 for the part. I told him Im not paying because they broke the part and he said he would make it right. He was upset and yells "It took my guys 2 hours just to get the door off and I am not charging you for that!" I told him, I am not paying for something you broke and why did it take you 2 hours to take off the door and replace a wire last time and all you had to do this time was replace the arm rest piece and it still took you 2 hours? I explained you told me that you would make this right and paying for something you broke is not right. He then crumples the invoice up and storms out of the office and throws it in the trash. His worker is standing there with the keys and a weird look on his face. I couldn't believe he gave me the same excuse about the 2 hours of labor and then tried to make me pay for something they broke. THEN, I go in the car and the part isn't even on right and they had to mount it on with a screw. It looks completely ugly with a screw sticking out. So here's the conclusion; first they do a horrible job fixing a switch for my windows and leave the job dirty and broke something in the process. They claim they would make it right and then tried to charge me for something they don't even do right. They lie about the labor and then end up screwing in the piece with a visible screw. This place is a joke and very dishonest and unprofessional. If I were you, Don't Go!!! read more

I wish so bad I could give a good review but I just can't. Long story short, I have taken my car in FIVE times for them to fix my overheating problem. They even admitted that they didn't know what the issue was so they just kind of fix things and hope it gets fixed and have no issue taking days and days to do so. I asked to pick up my car after hours and they told me they'd leave my keys hidden in the car so I could pick it up. I drove the 30 minutes to the shop and they hadn't left the keys in the car. The next time I brought it in, they told me I couldn't take it on a road trip that weekend and so they offered me a car to drive. I called the next day to pick it up and they never returned my calls. A few days later, the owner called me and asked if I was going to bring it in to get it fixed. I asked what happened with the car he was going to lend me and he said it wasn't working. They seem like nice enough people but they're unprofessional, disorganized and seem to be working me for every penny they can. read more

I have had many cars and repairs over the many years I have driven. I am sorry to hear that some people have had a bad experience but I have nothing but positive experiences. I have had Bradford do simple oil changes, to complete engine replacement. My son had an old car to get them through school. At his graduation a major transmission leak appeared. We rolled it over to Bradford's and found that it was just a loose connection. They could have fooled me easily since I was pretty sure the transmission was shot.
