Back in 2003, I was a poor college student driving a 1988 Audi Model 80 Quattro 2.5L 5 cylinder sedan. Things were starting to wear out on it, but buying a newer car was not within the budget. At one point I could no longer unlock the Driver's side door from the outside or inside as the long metal arm between the locking peg and the lock itself broke off. No one made or sold that part anymore. I thought I'd have to finish my last year without a car, and then my first couple paychecks after that trying to get a newer one. The mechanics at Mitchell machined a new part and then installed it for about $20. The car saw me through commissioned officer training in the Air Force, and my young family to our first duty station on the East Coast. Very dishonest, just wants to take your money. will break things that dont need fixed on your car to charge you more money. do not trust there "warranty's" cause tbh these guys just wants to screw you over. He does cheap work and uses cheap parts then. when you need them replaced under THEIR warranty your warranty only lasts 11 months not really a year. (they'll do anything they can to make money off you.) as if car problems aren't stressful enough.. Do not use them if your looking for a reliable honest shop, but sure if you like throwing money out the window go ahead. read more

My car had the check engine light on and needed an emissions inspection. I asked my wife to take it to Mitchell Garage. She called, made an appointment, and took in the car a few days later. Mitchell turned off the check engine light and told my wife it needed a $700 repair to pass the emissions test. She made an appointment for a few days later. Meanwhile, because the check engine light was off, I took the car to Jiffy Lube for the inspection. The car passed, no repairs need. I registered the car and got my new tags. Up until today, I was not going to say a word about our experience with Mitchell. My son has a Miata project car. There were a few things he didn't want to do, so we took it to Mitchell. The car did not have a hood latch installed. When I dropped it off, I asked Chad and a mechanic to come out to look at the car, so I could show them the issues. I was VERY CLEAR that there was no hood latch and asked if they would please secure the hood while it was in their possession, so nothing would happen. The repair issues were pretty simple: 1. Check the clutch to see if it needed to be replaced and replace it if it needed it. 2. Figure out why the oil gauge was showing no pressure. I was pretty sure it was the sender, but I asked them to completely check to ensure it wasn't something else. 3. Figure out what was wrong with the steering (it just needed an alignment, and they did a great job with that...credit where credit is due.) I told them because it was a project car, so there was no big rush. After a few weeks, we began to wonder what was going on with the car. We had told them there was no rush but several weeks for some pretty simple things? We decided to give it another day and call for an update. That evening, I drove past the shop and saw the car sitting in the parking lot. I turned to see if I could determine what was going on. As I pulled up, I noticed that the hood looked off. As I got closer, I noticed that the hood's corners were turned up, and then I noticed big dents in the hood and cracks and crumbles in the windshield. They clearly had not secured the hood, as they had committed to doing, and the hood and windshield were destroyed. They made no attempt to call us and tell us what had happened. We have no clue how long it had been like this, but it was long enough for them to call around and try to find body shops to fix the problem before we found out. My son called them the following Monday, and Chad told him that a mechanic had taken it for a drive to check the clutch, had not bothered to secure the hood and that the wind had caught the hood and flipped it up, shattering the windshield and destroying the hood. In the end, Mitchell did replace the windshield and did an alignment. For some reason, it took several more weeks for that to be done. He didn't charge any labor, which helped offset some of the cost of the $1000 hood. Unfortunately, the story gets worse. The car was finally ready to be picked up, so I dropped my son off to get it and drove home. Chad told my son that they had secured the hood with a bungee so he could get home and install the hood latch. My son didn't get a mile down the road before the hood that was "secured with a bungee cord" flipped up again and broke the BRAND NEW windshield. My son frantically called me from the side of the road, and I went back out to bring him some new cords to actually secure the hood. When we removed the bungee they used, we found that it was some janky, dry-rotten rubber bungee cord that had broken in half at some point before, and someone had tied the two pieces together with string or twine. Unsurprisingly, the two pieces had come apart and the hood flew up again. After we secured the hood the right way and began making our way home, we didn't make it another quarter of a mile before he put his hazards on and pulled over again. I pulled over behind him, and he informed me that the oil pressure gauge was back to zero and the check engine light had come on. What the heck!?!? THAT WAS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS WE TOOK THE CAR TO THEM TO BEGIN WITH! We towed the car home, with all of the work that they took 6 or 7 weeks to fix, nearly back where we had started. When we got home, my son said he was done with Mitchell and that he was not going to deal with them again. I felt differently and called and left them a message. In Chad's defense, he did return my call. I spoke to the mechanic today, who "worked" on the car because Chad was not there. My feelings about not taking the public changed when I spoke with the mechanic to ask what he did to ensure the engine was getting oil pressure. He said, "I disconnected the sender and plugged it back in, and it was working, so I just left it in there." After I picked myself up off the floor, I asked, "You didn't connect an oil pressure gauge after you removed the sender to verify that it was getting pressure and how much it was getting?" He said, "no, I disconnected it, removed the wire, plugged the wire back in. It seemed to be working, so I thought it was fine. I call BS What mechanic would not have connected a pressure gauge to the engine, so they could see EXACTLY how much pressure the engine was getting? That's insane! I don't believe for a minute he did a thing with the oil pressure. Thankfully, the engine didn't blow on the way home! We're now going to fix the issues they didn't and never deal with them again. I recommend you don't either. read more

Today the manager I usually see clearly had the opportunity to snake me for $1000 but instead went the extra mile to *examine* my part to see if he needed a replacement. Upon inspection he explained why it's still good and that I can easily put another 30,000 miles on it. I tried to give him a tip and he wouldn't take it. Had a great experience at Mitchell's Garage while on my recent road trip. My parking brake light began coming on intermittently halfway through our trip. So I stopped in to get it checked out. They figured out that a ground wire loosened up on the parking assembly was creating the issue. My family and I have been on a tremendous journey moving 2000+ miles away to a new place to call home. While staying in Salt Lake City, I came out first thing in the morning to find a puddle of fluid below my truck! We are on a timeline to make it to our new destination. I looked up repair shops in the area and mitchell garage had great reviews. I thought ok I will head over there as soon as they open. Once I got there I saw there was a lot of vehicles outside, so I figured they were really busy. Once I got in chad at the front desk showed me his workload and he indeed was swamped. I told him my story and he came out and took a quick peek. We were thinking and hoping water pump was leaking. Chad at that point went above and beyond to get my truck in the same day to try to get me back on the road ASAP. After they pressurized the system they found that it was actually not the water pump but the housing that received the thermostat. ALOT cheaper! Honest shop. Great guys! They had mercy on me and got me back on the road faster than fast. Will never forget it. Wish they were set up in my new home area in Texas. I'd have a new mechanic! Thank you Chad!! Did all the work I asked in about two hours and the car was tip-top. In fact, the guy at SDS made me buy a $20 part. When I took it to Mitchell's, he said I didn't need the part and I wasted my money based on the advice I received from SDS. I'm a Mitchell's guy now.
