Their page stated they accept walk-ins, so I arrived around 12 PM on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. I called ahead for directions and asked how long "smedium" waist-length knotless braids would take. I was told approximately 6 hours. When I arrived, the owner, Star, briefly greeted me and told me to go upstairs and wait. At the time, there was only one braider working on a client. Star later called and said she would start my hair if the braider hadn't finished by the time she returned--but that never happened. After discussing my desired style and confirming waist-length knotless braids, I was quoted $280, which I paid in full upfront. I then continued waiting. Despite accepting walk-ins, there was only one braider available, which caused a significant delay. I didn't get into the chair until about 2:30 PM. Before starting, I again confirmed the length (waist-length) and showed a reference. The braider checked the length after the first braid, and although it was slightly longer than requested, I approved it. The process ultimately took 10 hours, not the 6 hours I was quoted. Throughout this time, the owner was mostly in and out and minimally assisted, even when the braider asked for help. When I got home, I realized the braids were not completed properly. The braids stopped around mid-back, and the ends were left loose, uneven, and extremely frizzy--far from the waist-length style I requested and paid for. I contacted the owner the next day. Instead of listening, she was defensive and claimed that this was what I asked for, which is simply not true. No one would request unfinished braids with messy ends. After going back and forth, she told me to come in immediately, refusing to accommodate a later time--even though I had work and prior commitments. I had to leave work 3.5 hours early to return, after already taking the previous day off. When I arrived, the issue was discussed again, and despite previously sending photos, I was asked to re-explain everything. The owner attempted to use camera footage to support her claim, but the audio was unclear. She did eventually acknowledge that the ends looked bad and even criticized the braider in front of me. While my hair was being fixed, another customer came in and left after learning there was only one braider and long wait times. Shortly after, the braider received a call from the owner and she handed me the phone. The owner began questioning why I told the customer my service took 10 hours--which it did. She then told me not to return to the shop after this service and went on to say I have a "stinkin" attitude. I have this encounter on video and I will upload it if possible. Overall, this experience was unprofessional and frustrating. There was a clear lack of communication, accountability, and respect for my time. Between the excessive wait, incorrect execution of the style, and poor customer service, I would not recommend this business.

I thought I would be there for 7 hours but to my surprise was finished by 12 pm. I stood up and the braids went halfway down across my butt. I instantly felt regret and told her these are too long. The lady made a face and attempted to cut some of them. She told me she couldn't do too much because it would mess up the style and that I should be happy that I would only have to pay for waist length. No no no - price isn't the issue, it's the fact you did not listen to your client on set!! I went to pay and quickly left the salon. Not very happy but also I did not want to cause a scene. Looking back I should've raised my concerns right then and there but again, I am a novice at braids so I chalked it up. While my parts look really nice, I don't believe my braids are true knotless. I have looked at photos over and over and the more and more I see that my braids at the root do not lay flat or start off "natural". If anything, it looks as if there is a small knot at the beginning. Also the ends of my braids are not neat. So many of the other ladies in the salon braids looked good so I assumed everyone there braided the same. I hope and pray taking these down my hair will not be damaged which this protective style was specifically asked for to protect my hair. When my sister moved to Baltimore, I sang Binta's praises and she started going there to get her hair done. As I've gotten older, my tolerance for poor customer service and disrespect is severely low. If I'm paying you my hard earned money for a service you say you deliver, then you should deliver it. Let's begin with the Thursday before my appointment. I called the number and spoke to the owner. I explained that I needed my hair done on Saturday morning and confirmed with her that she was able to take me at 9AM SHARP that Saturday. I texted the style I wanted and was quoted a price. I will add that I had to call a few times after I texted the hair style I wanted to confirm that they could fit me in. I shouldn't have to do that, but I let that slide. If you want my patronage, be prompt in responding to inquiries, especially if you told me to reach out to you in this way. The other thing I asked, and Binta confirmed, is that they had hair in the shop that was NOT kanekalon. I told her the last time I had my braids done, my scalp itched badly from the kanekalon and I didn't want that used in my hair this time. I asked because if I needed to bring my own hair, I would have done so. She said no-we have hair that does not itch. "The best quality hair," is what she told me. Saturday comes. I'm at the store at 9AM. Binta is already there working on a head. My braider doesn't come until 9:45. I keep asking Binta when this lady will arrive and she tells me "soon." Sadly, I keep sitting there because I have a flight to catch on Monday. At or around 9:45AM, this lady comes in with the ill attitude. It's my braider. She comes in and starts parting my hair. Then she grabs a pack of hair that says "100% kanekalon" on the bag. I'm like, nah-hold up. I don't want that hair. That hair is itchy. She's like, no, this is good hair. I tell her I don't want kanekalon hair; I want something else. She tells me this hair is not kanekalon hair. I'm looking at her and she's looking at me. I'm looking at the pack of hair in her hand that says "100% kanekalon" wondering if I should believe her or my lying eyes. I'm looking at Binta, who is pretending like she can't here us going back and forth to intervene. I say, "Binta, I thought you told me you had hair in here that was not kanekalon. I told you on Thursday I didn't want that." Do you know this lady starts lying, talking about how that hair is not kanekalon and it's good quality?!?! I'm looking at them both, like, one of you better make some ish shake, because I asked for something that you all told me you had and I expect the thing I asked for. It got to a point where the braider and Binta are going back and forth in their native tongue. Suddenly, old girl leaves the shop. "Binta," I ask, "where is she going?" "She's going home," Binta replies. "What? So, what is supposed to happen now? Why is she going home? Who is going to do my hair?" I think I laughed at this point, because this is absurd. "She said you had an attitude and she didn't want to do your hair, so you will have to wait for me to finish." I cackled at this point. I have an attitude because I expect to get the thing I asked for!?!? I have an attitude because I'm holding you all accountable for your trash work ethic?" "Don't worry," I said. I hopped off from the chair and left. On the way out, I said, "Don't worry about my attitude or my money. You will never see me here again. You won't see my sister here ever again, either." Now, if this is the type of experience you want when you get your hair done, then by all means-Binta Hair Braiding is the place for you. But if you value your time, money, and expect customer service, then a word is enough for the wise.
